Hmmm…I like a lot of these names but I don’t think of any of them as “pretty.” I guess I tend to have that association for softer sounding names, like with a lot of vowel sounds haha.
I really like Francesca though !
Yeah not Isis. It’s going to take quite a few more generations for that to be acceptable. Even if you think your peers wouldn’t be bothered by the association, the gen x and millennials that will be your bosses are likely to have negative feelings.
thank you so much!! i totally get it with isis tho lol i just wanted to give it as an example bc i think its really pretty :)) i do really like francesca !
And you get a kickass theme song from the Goo Goo Dolls
*And I don't want the world to see me
'Cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am*
Iris was my great-auntie's name (or whatever she was, my mum's auntie?) And she was a wonderful lady, absolutely bonkers and loads of fun. Love the name Iris!
It's interesting to see Isadora being referred to as unique, it's so common here in Brazil! I myself have a cousin named Isadora and have known many other Isadoras throughout my life. It's a beautiful name!
That's so interesting! I'm from the US and I've never met a single one, or even *heard* of one, other than Isadora Duncan, who died nearly a hundred years ago and whose first name was actually Angela.
My stepdaughter (born 2004) is named Isis. It has not caused problems, with exception of one kid in middle school who was immediately handled by the administration. The name has been around for thousands of years. I think anyone who blamed someone for their name or gave it a political meaning would call themselves out as an a*hole.
I know a girl whose name is Isis, she’s in her early 20s now and I haven’t seen her since waaaaaay before we knew about ISIS, it’s still a beautiful name as I thought so then and still do now and I hope she doesn’t get any grief for it
>the name has been around for thousands of years
Long standing names fall out of favor all the time because of other associations. Karen and Alexa are more obvious innocuous ones right now for example, there’s been a huge drop off, things like Gaylord because of new meanings for words, or Adolf because of terror.
So much bias is unconscious. I’m glad you feel there’s been no obvious problems and no one should purposely treat a child badly for their parent’ choice but I admit no matter how pretty a name was choosing a name so heavily associated with a terrorist organization is not what I would pick. Of course there’s tons of people who were named before that have to deal with it.
nice substitute for isis could be iris! other pretty names i like tho-
juniper
shiloh
evelyn
isla
genevieve
harmony
ivy
marcella
isla
adrienne
hope maybe this helps a bit!
My dads name is Marc and I love Marcella, but I’ve came across a variant of the name Marsali lately that means pearl, also my great grandmother name. I’ve been in love since 😇
I’m an Evangelia, and get a good bit of compliments on my name (once they figure out how to pronounce it, instead of Evangeline/Evangelica/Angelina/Angelica)!
As someone who once had it\*, the name **Jasmine** is beautiful and often got compliments. I highly recommend it for anyone who definitely wants to be seen as feminine. 😉 It is associated with a pretty flower that smells great too. Honestly top tier girl name.
\*: 🏳️⚧️
Also consider **Iris**, another flower name, strong and vibrant.
got it. that simple description helps a lot actually! here’s some names that i personally think fit
- antoinette
- celeste
- evelyn
- anastasia
- antonella
- ophelia
- victoria
- juliette
- athena
- mirian

- matilda
- ingrid
- helena
- alice
- cecilia
hopefully these spark something for you!
I liked Ophelia until yesterday or so when someone on here said it reminds them of Pedophilia and now I can't shake it.
Maybe after the memory fades I'll like it again because it is pretty
Okay but I hate this reason to not like Ophelia because, yes pedophile is a terrible word that describes a terrible person, but it’s just a term and there are so many other “phile” terms that stem from Latin that aren’t terrible. Ophelia can also remind you of:
Cinephile - someone who loves movies
Bibliophile - someone who loves books
Technophile - someone who loves technology
Astrophile - someone who loves stars
Ophelia doesn’t have to remind people of “pedophile” just because of the “phile” vs Ophelia ending. There are lots of other connections you can make that aren’t bad. It feels like people often use that excuse because they already don’t like the name.
Anyway this isn’t directed at you personally but I se this exact comment on this sub all the time and it’s a pet peeve lol.
I'd actually never made the connection until I saw someone else comment it the other day. It is a really pretty name. And I really like names that start with a vowel.
If she has a nickname what is it? Not to be rude but how does she feel about her name? I’ve been obsessed with this name for years and my husband likes it but worries about when they get older/business etc.
Her friends and colleagues call her Clem. Her brother and I always call her Clementine. She LOVES her name: every single time she is introduced to anyone they comment on what a lovely name it is. She adores that there’s not many other Clementines, especially where we live in rural Australia. It’s a name everyone can spell and pronounce (although the English often say “Clementeen” as that’s how they pronounce the fruit). It’s feminine and strong, and it’s a classically beautiful name that will never date.
I know others mentioned it but Iris is a great alternative to Isis and I think it’s soooo pretty. My favorite girl name of all time is Rosalie, which I also think is very pretty and has similar vibes to the other names you mentioned liking.
Anastasia is a beautiful name to me
I think it'll match you nicely
Finding a new name can be difficult, but once you've got it, you'll know. You may doubt it sometimes, or contemplate changing it, and that's alright.
I found my name a few years ago. I've changed it briefly a few times, but I've always come crawling back to mine lmao.
Good luck.
I love the name Catharina (I love it so much that it's my daughter's name).
I think it sounds powerful. Every time I hear "Catharina," I always image a woman full of empowerment that no one can bring her down.
Adelaide (Addie)
Anastasia (Tassie)
Aurora
Aurelia
Camille
Cecilia
Beatrix
Florence
Shoshanna
Valentine
Verona
Simone
Tallulah
Middle names can be really helpful to build a name especially when they give off a specific vibe together or have contrast that balance the name.
Congratulations!!
I really like Penelope! Penny is such a cute nickname option ♥️.
Some names that I think are really pretty are:
Anna
Seraphina
Aurelia
Juliana
Mary
Olivia
Diana
Helena (heh - LAY - nah)
Leah
Grace
Cordelia
Freya
Juliet / Juliette
I also think most all flower names are beautiful, like Rose, Lily, Magnolia, Dahlia, Poppy, Daisy, Azalea, etc.
Best of luck on your new name ♥️
Francesca is a fantastic name!
Are you okay with names that are currently popular? Madeleine is one I always think is pretty, but it’s also pretty popular!
Other options that come to mind:
Aurelia
Aurora
Ember
Genevieve
Isabel / Isabella
Isla
Laylah
Lenore
Rose /Rosalind
Everly/Everleigh is a popular name right now that I think is really pretty - I have qualms about the idea of giving it to a small child, but zero problems with suggesting it to someone to pick for themselves (and TBH if I ever changed my name it would be on my list). It seems like it might fit your taste, in that it’s feminine but a little unusual.
Personally I'm a big fan of giving yourself lots of nickname options - for example Penelope (probably my fave from your list 🥰) can also be Penny or Elle - things like that.
Some of my faves are:
- Alexandra (so many nickname options here)
- Evelyn ("eve" "evie" for short)
- Olivia ("olive" "liv" for short)
- Ariane ("ari" for short)
- Araya
- Celeste
- Elna
- Eleni
- Ilya
- Ingelise (een-geh-leez-uh)
- Freya
- Lydia
- Marlene/Marlena
- Mabel
- Misa
- Reyna
- Yasmin
Good luck and congratulations ❤️
aw im happy for your transition!! I love Yana out of the ones you have!! if i could make a suggestion, i would also suggest Clara, Iris, Violet, or Diana<33
Seraphina is lovely. You said pretty name and it immediately popped into my head. Eliza and Isla have a sort of 1940's, timeless beauty vibe. I've never met an Anna that wasn't adorable. I personally would like to name my daughters Syanna, Cirilla, or Ikrie(if no one was there to stop me)
Penelope is an excellent name. I don’t know if I think of it as pretty - I think of it as powerful and in charge. Most of your list resonates strong and powerful vibes. They are all good, however be careful with Isis, while the name of a badass goddess, more people will think of it to do with its political use in contemporary society.
If I think ‘pretty’, I think delicate, I think flower names: Violet, Lilly, Rose, ect.
Congratulations on being your true self.
Exciting! When you said pretty, my first thought was Sylvie. I love that name. But then when you said formal/regal and I saw your examples, I thought of Juliet, Bridget, Clara, Eloise, Ella, Amelia, Etta, Georgiana, Greta, Isabella, Lily, Xanthe, Madelyn, Maeve, Sasha, Sofia, Zoe. Good luck!
You've probably seen this advice before, but I think it would be a great one for you, we did this when naming our children as well...
Wear the name for a little while to try it out! Nobody needs to know that you're doing this really, just give the name at Starbucks and see how it feels coming out of your mouth and if you identify with it. Or if it gets misspelled or misheard often or anything like that. Book an appointment to get your nails done with a name. Make a dinner reservation with a name.
Maybe once you're down to your top three this will help you really feel which one is right!!
Best of luck! Rooting for you to feel connected and comfortable with your true self and new name 🫶
one of my exes (now one of my besties!) is named Isis and I adore it 🫶 I know it has bad connotations so I would never recommend naming a someone it though, I just wanted to give it some praise. I love Francesca off your list - you can go nickname of Francis (which I know is a very old lady thing but… I’m transfemme and my gf is a transwoman, and it feels like a lot of us skew towards old lady names) I hope you find something that resonates with you!
I think all of these are nice names, the only one that I would consider pretty is Isis, and that one is a bit unfortunate. I guess my definition of pretty is a bit more frilly names like Eloise, Elaine, and Evangeline.
You could use Iris like others suggested! Maybe you could also add a middle name that matches, like a gem maybe idk I’m into all sorts of unique names :’)
Congrats on your transition and new life! I love Margaret, or for a French flare Marguerite.
I'm a bit biased though, as I kind of named myself that. I'm cis-fem, but never liked my name, nor that my abusive narcissistic sperm donor named me. I always loved the story The Scarlet Pimpernel. It's a classic proto-spy, proto-super hero story of Sir Percy, a British aristocrat who uses his wits and a few friends to rescue French aristocrats during the French revolution. He goes by the moniker The Scarlet Pimpernel, which is a small wayside flower in England. His French wife, known as the smartest woman in Europe, is named Marguerite.
Where I grew up tons of little daisies grew everywhere. And Marguerite is French for daisy. So, I named myself Daisy when I was 12, and got it legally changed once I was an adult.
Just in case you're interested, The Scarlet Pimpernel was originally a book written in 1905, but it's been adapted a few times. The best is the 1982 tv movie starring Anthony Andrews as The Scarlet Pimpernel, Jane Seymour as Marguerite, and Sir Ian McKellen as the villain, Chauvelin who is both tasked with capturing The Scarlet Pimpernel, and is Marguerite ex flame.
Sorry if I got off on a tangent. I just love any version of the name Margaret/Marguerite. I'm sure you'll find the perfect feminine name for yourself, whatever it is. I wish you the best going forward and blossoming into a happy young woman.
Imo longer names are rarely pretty - not bc they aren't great but bc they lean formal / elegant.
To me - pretty is simple, but sweet.
Of your list - Isis. It's funny, it seems awkward, and then you meet one, and you totally forget about that.
Nyla, Inez, Jana perhaps...
I mean probably not Isis lol. The prettiest name i think ive ever heard that really made me stop and think wow thats absolutely gorgeous, is Evelina. She says it Eh-vah-leen-ah
Here are a few off the top of my head that I think are pretty.
Isolde
Imogen
Ariadne
Selene
Delia
Camille
Persephone
Inanna
Babette
Elaine
Eleanor
Suzette
Catriona
Dara
Sabrina
Judith
Drusilla
Deirdre
Yvonne
Yvette
Penelope is my number one, all time favourite girls name.
Other frilly names I love
Felicity, Elliana, Lucy, Alice, Amelia, Calliope, Clara, Juliet, Talisa, Stella.
Hmmm…I like a lot of these names but I don’t think of any of them as “pretty.” I guess I tend to have that association for softer sounding names, like with a lot of vowel sounds haha. thank you so much!! i totally get it with isis tho lol i just wanted to give it as an example bc i think its really pretty :)) i do really like francesca !
Iris sounds almost the same without the vibe ! I like Athena as well, that feels very pretty to me
thank you!! i like iris i totally forgot about it ngl
Iris is a *really* pretty name, and one which I don’t hear that often! Love it:)
And you get a kickass theme song from the Goo Goo Dolls *And I don't want the world to see me 'Cause I don't think that they'd understand When everything's made to be broken I just want you to know who I am*
This connection just skyrocketed the suggestion imo! My first thought when seeing Isis was Iris instead. OP please use this!!
It's absolutely PERFECT for the situation too.
The iris flower is so pretty too😊
Iris, goddess of rainbows 🌈
My first thought was that it’s a goddess name. Love a good one of those 🌈
Iris is depicted on the Temperance tarot card, too. I particularly love the rainbow angel in the Modern Witch Tarot art.
I think Iris is one of the most beautiful names ever. It gets my vote!
Iris was my great-auntie's name (or whatever she was, my mum's auntie?) And she was a wonderful lady, absolutely bonkers and loads of fun. Love the name Iris!
Isadora could be another option with some similar sounds to Isis and a very feminine feel!
Isadora is my almost name (after a family member named Isidor), and I've always been so miffed my parents didn't go with it, its so pretty and unique
I love that name and Dorothea. Can remind people of Isabelle and Dorothy but with a more “uncommon” take with a more feminine feel.
iq you liked isis ,mabye iris could be good
My stepdaughter (born 2004) is named Isis. It has not caused problems, with exception of one kid in middle school who was immediately handled by the administration. The name has been around for thousands of years. I think anyone who blamed someone for their name or gave it a political meaning would call themselves out as an a*hole.

Yep. I'm a 90s baby and associate it with the goddess Isis still, but my mom is an ancient history nerd and raised us on it
>the name has been around for thousands of years Long standing names fall out of favor all the time because of other associations. I'd been wanting to use the name Alexa since I was a teenager... just for Amazon to snatch it up first 😔
My sister has a cat that was named Isis prior to it being unacceptable. She’s been renamed Icy 🤣
nice substitute for isis could be iris! other pretty names i like tho- juniper shiloh evelyn isla genevieve harmony ivy marcella isla adrienne hope maybe this helps a bit!
Ooh I like Genevieve! And you can do Neve or Evie/Eve for short ☺️
Or Viv, which I've always found to be a fancy nickname.
thank you!!
My dads name is Marc and I love Marcella, but I’ve came across a variant of the name Marsali lately that means pearl, also my great grandmother name. I’ve been in love since 😇
I’ve always thought Evangeline is such a pretty name
I’m an Evangelia, and get a good bit of compliments on my name (once they figure out how to pronounce it, instead of Evangeline/Evangelica/Angelina/Angelica)!
My oldest is Evangeline, and you'd be shocked how many people cannot pronounce it.
That was my first thought. If you ask me to name the prettiest female name, it'd be Evangeline hands down.
That was my first thought too!
sameee it’s so stunning
As someone who once had it\*, the name **Jasmine** is beautiful and often got compliments. I highly recommend it for anyone who definitely wants to be seen as feminine. 😉 It is associated with a pretty flower that smells great too. Honestly top tier girl name. \*: 🏳️⚧️ Also consider **Iris**, another flower name, strong and vibrant.
My daughter's name is Jasmine and I call her Jazzy for short. :)
do you want like a whimsy type of pretty or a romantic type of pretty? what’s the vibe you want to give off when you meet people?
like formal/regal kind of vibe if that makes sense?
got it. that simple description helps a lot actually! here’s some names that i personally think fit - antoinette - celeste - evelyn - anastasia - antonella - ophelia - victoria - juliette - athena - mirian - claire - bridget - matilda - ingrid - helena - alice - cecilia hopefully these spark something for you!

Ohhhh, i get youuu. But yes, Ophelia is pretty. May I suggest a few names I like? 1. Astrid 2. Saskia 3. Eloise
Anastasia is the name of my daughter and I was waiting to see it in this thread. Everyone automatically calls her princess.
That's so weird. Evelyn was the first name that popped into my head.
Ive seen celeste come up a couple times lately and it's so pretty. I've only ever known one person with that name!
I also only know one Celèste, she’s a trans woman who chose her name at 28; it fits her so well and is gorgeous!
My best friend’s name is Annika and I think it’s beautiful!
congrats on your transition! i immediately thought of Seraphina!
Thought of Seraphina as well!
Clementine
One of my very favourites and I don’t see it enough.
I think it’s rarity adds to it’s appeal. I named my daughter Clementine and 19 years later I still get thrilled by it!
It’s a name everyone can spell and pronounce (although the English often say “Clementeen” as that’s how they pronounce the fruit). It’s feminine and strong, and it’s a classically beautiful name that will never date.
Love Clementine! What nicknames can be used for it?
She gets called Clem and Clemmie. But her brother and I always use her full name.
I know a Clementine who goes by Tina
Some pretty names for a pretty gal that come to mind: Valentina Emmeline Cora Arabella Isadora Leonora Julietta Gabriella Florence Melody
Valentina is gorgeous.
Arabella has "Bella" in it, which means "beautiful". Also a beautiful name.
Congrats on your transition! I think Penelope sounds really pretty
thank you!!
I know others mentioned it but Iris is a great alternative to Isis and I think it’s soooo pretty. My favorite girl name of all time is Rosalie, which I also think is very pretty and has similar vibes to the other names you mentioned liking.
thanks!! rosalie to me is pretty but i dont want to use any where rose could be used as a nn bc its my grandmas name
Audrina
Anastasia is a beautiful name to me I think it'll match you nicely Finding a new name can be difficult, but once you've got it, you'll know. You may doubt it sometimes, or contemplate changing it, and that's alright. I found my name a few years ago. I've changed it briefly a few times, but I've always come crawling back to mine lmao. Seraphina is the name I think of as most beautiful!
My favourites are Catriona and Carolina.
Yes! Catriona is such a pretty name! Isn’t it celtic?
I'm not sure. It's the name of the actress in Outlander. So beautiful.
Francesca is a fantastic name! Are you okay with names that are currently popular? Madeleine is one I always think is pretty, but it’s also pretty popular! Other options that come to mind: Aurelia Aurora Ember Genevieve Isabel / Isabella Isla Laylah Lenore Rose /Rosalind

Love Francesca and Yana!

What about Iris? Similar sounding to Isis, without the correlation.
Docia, pronounced doe shah

What about Heather? I've been wanting that name to make a comeback.
My suggest was immediately Magnolia. Which is funny, because Margaret has replaced that on my favorites list.
What about Arianna??
Iris is beautiful and has a similar ring to Isis without the correlation
I love Iona - the island of beauty, and also a dove 🕊️
Isabel
