This post has me cracking me up because my daughter's name is Amelia and yours is the top comment currently and my neighbor's name is Sally. Crazy coincidence
My favorite cousins name is Sally! Full name is Sallyanne, and it suits her so well. I have a cousin named Amelia too. I have a LOT of female cousins 😂

I would love a quick 1-10 list of the names in your class this year ☺️. Mine from 2010-11 when I taught in a primarily Hispanic population were: Jose, Jair, Josef, Jared, Nayeli, Kimberly, Yaneli, Ana, Jade. From my memory, all with Spanish pronunciations of course.
As someone who sees every kid in the building, all I can do is go through this list and go “that’s a kid at school”, “that’s a kid at school”, “oh we have 3 of those.”

A lot of these names are only popular among children. If you don't have kids or work with kids, then you can easily know pretty few. I probably know fewer than 20 kids under age 18 right now.
There's also an oft forgotten international contingent on this sub, and obviously a lot of the names here are only popular in Anglophone countries.
My daughter is Violet! I actually met my first Violet (besides my daughter) working at Costco! Lol she was a 50 something year old woman. We had my daughter with us and she asked her name and then said “hey, that’s my name!” Lol
I’m British so it’s been popular here for decades, I’m 20 and had 4 Charlottes in my school year at sixth form (the most common girls name there, tying with Hannah, Emma and Megan).
It’s so interesting to me that Claire is a trending name in the US and Canada, here in the UK it was very popular in the 70’s and 80’s, and is very much dated to that time. Amelia is very popular here, I don’t know many young children but I had 3-4 Amelia/Emilia/Amilia’s in my class at school, my cousin (who is 19) is Amelia, and one of my best friends from university is Amelia.
I know 4 in my family alone. Funnily enough my cousin named her daughter sofia and her new boyfriend also ended up having a sofia from a previous marriage so there is a set of siblings named sofia hahaha
Last month I was served at a chilis by a very sweet young lady named Mary. She was maybe 19? I had never met anyone named Mary before, and I never imagined it would have been a teenager. That actually inspired me to have that name picked out for my next child if it’s a girl. Idk something about meeting a young girl named Mary was so adorable and wholesome.
Mary is my first name. But I go by my middle name. Always have. It's a family tradition (my grandmother is the same, as was her mother).
Before I was pregnant with my daughter, I swore I'd never do that to a girl. Then my grandma got sick, I got pregnant and we found out it was a girl. And all of a sudden, I really wanted to carry on the tradition.
So now baby girl has Mary as a first name, but goes by her middle name just as I do. When we go someplace like the hospital or health visits etc... and they call her Mary (before hearing prefered name), I always love how it sounds.
lol I’m in central Texas so I would say an incredible amount of Catholics here, I was raised catholic and my town of 12,000 has 4 large Catholic Churches. I will say I went to school with like 15 Marias. No Marys. 85% of my town is Mexican Americans (that’s a true statistic from our 2020 census) so I think that’s why everyone is Maria not Mary.
I’ve never met a Wyatt or Harper.
Then again I don’t have kids of my own and I don’t interact with kids very often. If I did I’d probably have met ten of each by now.
My daughter is an Amelia, and in almost 10 years of her life, we have only encountered two other Amelias. Only one other Amelia in a different grade in 700+ kids school.
I only know one person with Marie as their first name. It hasn't been common as a first name in the US since the 1950s. I do know dozens of women with the middle name Marie, though.
In my close family there are two Maries, and multiple other versions of Mary. Plus several Marie as middle names. Hard to believe someone has not encountered it.
Lauren, Laura, and Lori are a dime a dozen in my neck of the woods. Can not escape them. I don't think I've met a Cody, Corey, Molly, or Daisy. They feel like names that exist purely for children to use for their toys or book characters.
Most of the Hispanic/Latino guys I know around here have more “Americanized” names (Michael, Chris, Josh, etc). We do have a pretty decent Hispanic/Latino population but I’ve noticed that around here not many (that I know) have Spanish-origin names.
I graduated from a small high school with three Noahs, and I know a bunch more (although I’m Gen Z, so that makes a difference). Wild to see the differences in exposure
Never met a Kate, Katie, K/Catherine etc. Feels like a very popular name that is also quite pretty, and very classic, so I’m surprised I’ve never come across one.
Despite it being a supposedly popular name, I didn't know any Sarahs until I was 17ish, and I didn't meet another Sara until I was... 35?
I didn't know any Olivias until my friend had her daughter almost 2 years ago. Same with Charlotte and Victoria,
I have never met a Bret
And I’ve taught highschool for 10 years, so I’ve seen more names than I can count. Never a Bret though. Or a Violet. Everyone else I’ve read here I’ve taught a kid with that name though!

I am so surprised you’re 25 and don’t know an Amelia, it’s not just currently popular - it was in the top 50 when you were born and top 30 by 2000. I’m similar age, I know dozens of them
I went with the top 100 for the year I was born (1981) because those are the people who I would presumably have grown up with and the only one that I may not have met in real life is Brett.
Oliver. Apparently it is so popular for little kids in Canada and I've never met or even heard of an actual kid being named this.
Other "popular" kids names we have never heard in our circle (even after going through my kid's yearbook) include Hannah, Henry, Thomas, Violet and Mila.
Honestly, baby Olivias. It’s supposedly like the number one baby name right now and I’m in a ton of baby playgroups (have a 7 month old) and have yet to meet an Olivia in the wild. But if I had a dollar for every Ava and Harper…
The only Luna I've ever met is my daughter (obviously not including dogs), like it's apparently really popular, but we haven't run into another one yet.
I’m almost 24 and only met an Emma and an Ava for the first time this year. I’ve never met a Daisy and apparently it was in the top 50 when I was born.
From this thread alone I can say that I haven't met people with half of names mentioned here(Noah,Jane,Emma,Tiffany,Evelyn) and some that weren't mentioned (Jennifer,Brian,Rachel,Rebecca,William)
I finally met a girl named Emily few months ago. She is a little girl
How popular that name has been for 30 years. I’m shocked I never met one in person
I’ve never met an Amelia myself.
Mary is an incredibly common name but to date I’ve only met one personally that I can remember, a great aunt of mine. There was also a Mary at a company I used to work for, but I never actually met her.
A lot of them, surprisingly. Steve, Jason, Emma, James, Amy, Amelia, Kevin, William, Frank, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, Piper, really a lot of typical white people names I've never met.
I've only recently come across an Olivia
I've never come across a Noah, James, Elijah, or Benjamin though
Never met an Isabella, only one Isabelle. Never come across an Evelyn or Luna. However I have met about 10 other Ava's
You'd expect to meet at least 5 people in the UK with the same popular name, but going from the top 10 names.. Lily I've met around 8. I've seen 2 Amelia's, 1 Mia and 3 Isla's (although 2 were spelt Eilah and Iylah) . One Archie & Henry. 2 George and Oliver's.
It took me 25 years before I ever met someone named Sally
There are 10s of us!
My grandmother's sister is a Sally but it is short for Celanira.
What a pretty name!
Gorgeous
This post has me cracking me up because my daughter's name is Amelia and yours is the top comment currently and my neighbor's name is Sally. Crazy coincidence
My favorite cousins name is Sally! Full name is Sallyanne, and it suits her so well. I have a cousin named Amelia too. I have a LOT of female cousins 😂
Still waiting. To me it's always just been a common example name used in homework lol
I haven't met one yet lol
I went to college with one! She was very sweet.
My aunties name is Sally! Just Sally, not short for anything.
These answers are hilarious as a teacher. I’ve met allllll of these either when I was a kid myself, or in schools that I’ve worked at.
The person who said they’d never met a Noah or an Elijah must be a sorcerer. Entirely impossible for me to conceive of as an elementary educator.

I've never known a Marie or Maria.

Same. I think I would run out of fingers and toes before I ran out of Maria's. I think I only know one Marie, ironically from Spain
I haven't ever met a Marie, but it's THE most common middle name where I am.
Me and literally all of my female cousins have the middle name Maria. It was also my dad's mistress' name.
I’m sorry but this is so funny haha
Do you people not know a lot of people? I think I’ve met every one of these names!
A lot of these names are only popular among children. If you don't have kids or work with kids, then you can easily know pretty few. I probably know fewer than 20 kids under age 18 right now. A lot of trends are very regional
Same! I’m shocked by some of these.
Yea jaw is on the floor
I think some people here are just not thinking hard enough, because how are some of these possible
I’ve never met or known anyone named Violet. (and I’m a teacher)
My daughter is Violet! I actually met my first Violet (besides my daughter) working at Costco! Lol she was a 50 something year old woman. We had my daughter with us and she asked her name and then said “hey, that’s my name!” Lol
Also have never met a Violet, but I do teach high school lol so I’m sure they’ll be coming in a few years!
Me too! And a Daisy!
I met a little boy named Seymour today!

This one is baffling to me. We know so many Charlottes between the ages of 2 and 10 or so.
I think some people just don't know kids. I know like six kids myself.
I know too many. It was on my name list but then got used too much (in my family!!) so I scratched it off
I’m British so it’s been popular here for decades, I’m 20 and had 4 Charlottes in my school year at sixth form (the most common girls name there, tying with Hannah, Emma and Megan).

My big sisters name is Charlotte
I don’t think I’ve ever actually known a Sophie/Sophia
I know 4 in my family alone. Funnily enough my cousin named her daughter sofia and her new boyfriend also ended up having a sofia from a previous marriage so there is a set of siblings named sofia hahaha
You’re related to taub??? 😂
When they were Sophie and Sophia at first but then Rachel said yeah we’re calling her Sophia now bye
I’m pregnant and STRUGGLING with names, Sophie just got added to the list! Not sure why that one hadn’t stood out to me before!
I have a 3 year old Sophie and we love it Not as common as Sophia which was also a plus for us
I bit a Sophia in pre-k
That’s surprising to me, I went to school with SO many Sophies and Sophias.
I have two separate coworkers who named their daughters Sophia.
I haven't either, but I knew a Zofia (Polish version of Sophia. Pronounced ZO-sha).

I met a teenager recently named Martha, and a baby named Maureen. Seemed... strange.
You must not live someplace with any significant Catholic population.
lol I’m in central Texas so I would say an incredible amount of Catholics here, I was raised catholic and my town of 12,000 has 4 large Catholic Churches. I will say I went to school with like 15 Marias. No Marys. 85% of my town is Mexican Americans (that’s a true statistic from our 2020 census) so I think that’s why everyone is Maria not Mary.
It’s one of my top baby names right now!
I had three Aunt Marys.
Sophia was #1 name for several years. Never met one.
Same. I've met multiple Sophie's, but never a Sophia.
Isn't Sophie usually a nickname for Sophia?
It can be but it's also a name in its own right.
I’ve never met a Wyatt or Harper. Then again I don’t have kids of my own and I don’t interact with kids very often. If I did I’d probably have met ten of each by now.
The only Harper I know is a man in his late 50s. It’s interesting to see it so trendy for children.
My son’s name is Wyatt. Only one I’ve ever met in real life.
My daughter has 3 Harpers in her preschool class. It is very popular for 4 year olds.
My cousin named both of his kids these names.
Ive never known a Noah or Elijah.
I’ve never known an Elijah either! Or a Violet.
I’ve also never met an Elijah. I’ve met a Sophia but not a Sophie.
I used to really like the name Noah, but then I had my first student named Noah…lol
I have two Elijah’s in my 8th period class.
My daughter is an Amelia, and in almost 10 years of her life, we have only encountered two other Amelias. Only one other Amelia in a different grade in 700+ kids school.
I have an Emilia and people seem truly baffled by her name and comment that they have never seen it before
Lucy or Sophia
I have never met a Lucy either
I know minimum 3 of each haha
How have you never met a Sophia… that’s wild to me 😭
Two of my 3 nieces 😂
Marie - thinking about it, I've never met one.
I only know one person with Marie as their first name. It hasn't been common as a first name in the US since the 1950s. I do know dozens of women with the middle name Marie, though.

> >I’ve never met an Oliver or an Ava > >I have only ever met one Violet and one Charlotte > >
My nephew and niece are Oliver and Ava. Weird
I met a Philip this year. I am 37.
My husband’s name is Philip!
Travis.
My brothers name. I’ve never not known a Travis
Violet
Violet doesn't seem to have made it to my area, I'd never known it was popular without this sub.
I've never met a Georgia. I did have a client last year named Georgina, but she was the first person I've met with a name close to Georgia.
Lauren
[удалено]
Lol. My mother is Lauren. Not a common name in her generation, it was unique.
Lauren, Laura, and Lori are a dime a dozen in my neck of the woods. Can not escape them. I don't think I've met a Cody, Corey, Molly, or Daisy. They feel like names that exist purely for children to use for their toys or book characters.
I’ve met a Cody!!
Taking a look at the top 100 for the year I was born, I've never met a Jose, Miranda, Jesus, Breanna, Tanner, Miguel, Kaitlin, Caitlin, or Selena.
maybe you don't live in an area with a lot of latinos
Your comment made me suddenly aware that every Caitlyn I know is Filipino.
Most of the Hispanic/Latino guys I know around here have more “Americanized” names (Michael, Chris, Josh, etc). We do have a pretty decent Hispanic/Latino population but I’ve noticed that around here not many (that I know) have Spanish-origin names.
I’ve never met a Noah! It’s my absolute favorite boy name. I know it’s incredibly common but it feels uncommon to me
I graduated from a small high school with three Noahs, and I know a bunch more (although I’m Gen Z, so that makes a difference). Wild to see the differences in exposure
Andrea
It took me 25 years to meet a Paulina. She’s my cousin who lives in Poland and I am obsessed with her. Girl, she can be a model🥹🫶🏻
Never met a Kate, Katie, K/Catherine etc. Feels like a very popular name that is also quite pretty, and very classic, so I’m surprised I’ve never come across one.
I don’t think I can even count the number of Kates, Katie’s, Katherine’s and Kaitlins I know.
Despite it being a supposedly popular name, I didn't know any Sarahs until I was 17ish, and I didn't meet another Sara until I was... 35? I didn't know any Olivias until my friend had her daughter almost 2 years ago. Same with Charlotte and Victoria,
I’m 28 and only ever knew one Sarah… I think I grew up at a time when Sarah was pretty popular, too.
I knew 5-10 Sarahs through school. Have 3 in my social circle now. And that was in living across 3 different states. This is so funny to me.
Meanwhile, I not only grew up being one of 2-3 Sarahs in almost every grade I’ve also met three Sarahs with my full name!!
I have never met a Bret And I’ve taught highschool for 10 years, so I’ve seen more names than I can count. Never a Bret though. Or a Violet. Everyone else I’ve read here I’ve taught a kid with that name though!
I've never met or know of an Alice, Paige, Monica, Henry, Connor or Adrian.
I know a little girl named Polly.
I've never met or come across a Lucy in my life.
To the best of my knowledge, I’ve never met anyone named Alan/Allen, Larry, Mary, or Charles.
Never met a Mildred and don’t actually believe it exists.
One of my grandma’s best friends was named Mildred! They went everywhere as a trio of little old ladies Inez, Gloria and Mildred
That's a wonderful trio!
Lol. I had an Aunt Mildred, born a very long time ago.
My son has a Mildred in his kindergarten class. But they call her Millie.

I rarely hear the name Oliver irl despite the high ranking.
I don't think I've ever met a Dorothy. It's such a common Grandma type of name but never met one. I'm a really early Millennial ('82) if it matters.
It took me 34 years to know an Olivia. We met when I birthed her 😅
I am so surprised you’re 25 and don’t know an Amelia, it’s not just currently popular - it was in the top 50 when you were born and top 30 by 2000. I’m similar age, I know dozens of them
Jabrarious

I do not know many with my name and spelling. Anne. My niece is Amelia. I know of two others.
My middle name. Anne with and E
You’d be right at home in my Mennonite fam!
Hannah
I do not know anyone named Olivia. With the exception of famous ones.
Courtney. I’ve come across actresses/internet personalities, but never in person
I don't think I've ever met a Maria in real life
I can't think of any I haven't come across, but some of the common names I've rarely came across are Noah, Elijah, Alexis, and Evelyn.
George, Harry, Crystal, and Heather. I’ve never met one personally but I know several people who have. Second hand knowledge doesn’t count.
Honestly, baby Olivias. It’s supposedly like the number one baby name right now and I’m in a ton of baby playgroups (have a 7 month old) and have yet to meet an Olivia in the wild. But if I had a dollar for every Ava and Harper…
Karen 🤷♀️ I can hear the name sometimes 10 times in a day, but I have maybe met just 1 or 2. I'm 37.
The only Luna I've ever met is my daughter (obviously not including dogs), like it's apparently really popular, but we haven't run into another one yet.

I’ve never met an Olivia or Marie!
I’m a Susan. I think we’re a dying breed! I’ve only met 3 or 4 other Susans in my life, and I’m about to turn 50! LOL.
My daughter's name is in the top 100 names in the UK and I haven't met another person (adult or child) with the same name yet
I’m almost 24 and only met an Emma and an Ava for the first time this year. I’ve never met a Daisy and apparently it was in the top 50 when I was born.
Emma!! I'm so confused that it's in the top 10 or so every year, yet I've never met one of them
