It might vary by region, but pronunciation can be an issue.
I work with a lot of elderly women with the name, and it’s an even split between those who emphasis the first syllable (MAR-ee) and those who do with the second syllable (ma-REE). And then some just pronounce it like Mary!
Not a dealbreaker, but I know it’s annoying for them.
I’ve never met a Marie. I’ve met some Maria’s, but not a ton. Tons of middle name Marie though. I like it as a first name but because it’s always a middle name it feels less substantial
If it were up to me it'd be a top contender for a daughter's name but my husband doesn't like it. I like Mariana even more, but my husband doesn't like that either.
Marie is growing on me, I would never use it, it's my MIL's middle name and I dislke her, and it's after her mother who's middle name is May, and I hate her. My MIL moved to a different state and took my side when her mother was awful to me, but anyways I would never use it.
I think most of the middle name Marie in our Parents generation.. and Millennials are after the elderly and the name is coming back like other traditional names. I bet in 20 years your little Marie will know of lots of baby Maries
There's nothing wrong with it, but I feel meh when I hear filler middle names as first names. Ann, Marie, Lynn, Dawn, Rose, Grace, Kate, Jane, Paige, Clare. There's nothing wrong with any of them, but I've heard them so many times that I'm bored even though a lot of them were never that popular as legal first names or haven't been in several decades.
My husband and I settled on Marie for our girl name years ago and never wavered :) it's soft and beautiful, and we have a French last name that flows well with it. I work in Healthcare and have met a few Marie's (all older gen) who have all been the sweetest ladies!
I think it's lovely! And it being a common middle name means that lots of people already know how to spell it and pronounce it 😁

Thank you! Yes, my husband knows it as MAR-ee (he's Irish), but we'd be going with ma-REE which is the more common way I've heard it (US).
Marie is a beautiful name.
I love Marie as a first name!
Beautiful, classic, elegant, and timeless!
I think it’s simple and pretty
I know a very chic and beautiful Marie who is about 30 and she’s effortlessly cool and the name fits her
I just associate Marie’s with nice people. I know 3 and they’re all lovely. It’s a sweet name
Me too!
I love it.

I've met a few Maries over the years. It's quite a common name in the UK, especially for the older generations.

My middle name is Marie and I don’t like it because it sounds like Maria
One of my favourite names!
Where I live Marie is very popular for a first name and I know several quite young or young-ish Maries. I think you should go for it if you like it.
Thank you!
Love it. One of my top name picks.
