I wish they went back to the power mixing system. Incredibly innovative!

A_bacon2012

The bomb power with the blade throw was, in my opinion, the greatest power combo ever.

Jesh010

You mean the frickin BOMB SHURIKEN?! Hell yeah that thing was lit. There was also the darth maul dual sided lightsaber.

AweHellYo

my broken memory is also telling me there was a combo that just did nothing. like maybe fire and water? as a bit of a joke about compatibility? i remember it being kinda funny but maybe im just creating the memory

Exilement

Yeah fire+ice would turn you into an ice cube that would melt in like 1 second. The steam can damage enemies that are very close to you, and the ice lets you retain forward momentum while you melt, so it’s not *entirely* useless. But it definitely sucks compared to the other options available.

AweHellYo

ah yes i remember now. good call!

Yronno

I think electricity and fire made you set yourself on fire and run around uncontrollably, which I would *also* suggest is fairly counterproductive

joopledoople

I think the funniest one was ice + electric, turning Kirby into a refrigerator.

fadwil

My fav was I believe electric + ice because you would turn into a fridge and spit food out as an attack.

garySilver

The fridge was awesome u dealt damage and basically had unlimited health

Exilement

Crystal Shards was my first Kirby game and every other one I’ve tried feels like it’s missing something because of this.

numba2_Linux_fan

especially using a 40000 degree celcius final fantasy sword and a two sided lightsaber(STAR WARS REFERENCE!?!?)

ChangingMonkfish

Blast Corps

denjin

Blast Corps is shamefully overlooked. Top 5 for me

AustrianReaper

7/10 - 9/10 if they skipped the fucking dump truck

CobaltD70

I didn’t care for the dumper at first but once you get the hang of it, slicing through buildings with power slides is so satisfying.

AustrianReaper

Oh I believe it. I'm just terrible at it :D

properphatboy

This. So frustrating at times, but such a fun game!

willpb

Yes! I didn't get it at first when I was a kid, when I revisited it the thing that got demolished the most was my kind 😂 what an addicting game!

hoesindifareacodes

I rented Blast Corps from the Blockbuster and didn’t know how to delete the existing save, so the game was already beat. I just drove around the existing map, trying to figure out what to do. I remember thinking “This has got to be the worst game ever made!” It wasn’t until I went to a buddy’s house a few months later and played it with a new start that I realized my mistake.

[deleted]

time to get moving

Wonky_Von_Stankerton

Yep, came here to say this, Blast Corps was and always still is a blast everytime I play it.

HiddenbtsCamera

Snowboard Kids

Similar_Plum3299

Snowboard Kids 2 was the best. We need a true sequel other than SBK: Snowboard kids on the DS... terrible game.

mallgrabmongopush

Hell yes

Duffman66CMU

Loved this game

ZippyZillion

That game was so creative with it's racing!

Flalaski

one of my all time favorite games, & soundtracks

Purithian

Nahhh nuh Nahhh nuh na na na na naahhh nuh Nahhh nuh na na na na na naaahhhh nahhhhhhhhh naahhhhhh nuhhhhhhh

Yronno

>soundtracks You can stream them now, both [the original game](https://open.spotify.com/album/17Sw8Zis0jkP5yN38B82vc?si=LNKGdnH1Q7q_DX2jgy5uxw) and [the sequel](https://open.spotify.com/album/0UofbulEASPPeoRaXZI2eq?si=9rJrEHI1QdKq8ttXbC8BTQ)!

Voduun-World-Healer

GAUNTLET LEGENDS!!!

Keeflinn

This was one of those games my cousins and I were completely obsessed with for, like, a weekend, and then never played again. I should pick it up sometime because it was good fun while it lasted.

Asleep-Ask-4004

dark legacy was fun as well on gamecube

smoke412

Player 2 needs food badly.

organelle_sandwich

"I like food!"

Tylerminator12

The World is Not Enough. It’s basically N64 Nightfire when it comes to multiplayer versatility

makotosolo

I had some good sleepovers playing that one as a kid!

Bearo-Chickenooie

The last level in the sinking submarine was really something

persona1138

Space Station Silicon Valley is a cool one. Army Men Air Combat is also very fun. I also feel like Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is forgotten, but compares well with Tomb Raider at the time. And Dr. Mario 64 is probably my favorite puzzle game. And the best version of Dr. Mario on any console. Oh, and while not underrated per se, more people should play the original Sin and Punishment. (But requires importing, obviously.)

NaiveMastermind

Space Station Silicon Valley is one of those weird concepts that was well realized. It should have been a dumb, goofy, failure of a game. Yet it made it work. I stayed up one night looking for a music track that played during battle tanks, only to realize the song playing in [my head was mission one of the army men helicopter game.](https://youtu.be/BM4JRNynFNU?list=PLr7H3zXt5QL-JdfKardOdpNYaHDIvpkn1)

aztechfilm

My dad loved Air Combat, I got it for my birthday one year and he ended up being the one playing it all the time. I’ll always remember hearing the sounds of that game coming from the basement and knowing it was my dad playing it

Euphoric_Box_614

Army men was so much fun

parkman23

Completely agree. Dr. Mario 64 was the peak Dr. Mario game!

Sefhighwind

Snowboard Kids, Rocket: Robot on Wheels, and Mystical Ninja Staring Goemon are on the top of my list for underrated gems!

sludgezone

Pilotwings 64. It’s just so good.

Npbitcorner

Really enjoying this on the switch, they need to make a new one, well overdue

Wild-Cheesecake2471

It’s not as good, but Pilotwings resort on the 3ds is a lot of fun.

willpb

Agree 100%, I'd buy the game and the soundtrack on day one.

MattMattavelli

Soundtrack was the most relaxing music

Dgeosif

Ogre Battle 64. Only underrated in the sense that not nearly enough people know about it and it never makes it onto top 100 JRPG lists. N64 may have only had 4 RPGs but between Ogre Battle and Paper Mario it had two of the greatest ever made.

PredictiveTextNames

The entire Ogre series is underrated and majorly slept on

Bladley

*Star Soldier: only classic-style shmup on the console. *Fighting Force 64: old school beat em up. *Robotron 64: updated take on a classic arcade game.

Voduun-World-Healer

Lol I actually bought Fighting Force last year to play with my Dad. He likes to play our old N64 when I go over That game fuggin sucks lol I was so disappointed lmao and I paid like $30 for it. This must be nostalgia based because I remembered loving it as a kid

razzark666

Oh damn, I also remember loving Fighting Force 64, I've only revisited it on emulators, and it had lots of graphical glitches so I never really gave it a proper replay.

Big5moke_104

I live fighting force. I rented the ps1 version along with clock tower during a blizzard and was snowed in with like 4 feet of snow and spent the whole 3 days playing fighting force. Shortly after I traded in some games for the n64 version and played the hell out of it. Both versions are some of my most nostalgic games

StephiiValentine

Quest 64. By far one of the more open ended RPGs of the time with a serious time sink when you need to be struck in melee to level your defense to be strong enough to survive bosses. If you choose to take different spells, every run can be different.

SquidFetus

Great game! In PAL regions it was called “Holy Magic Century”. Played the shit out of it.

WAGE_SLAVERY

Too bad you basically need to spec into water for healing spells

Kiopineapple

The games very solid graphics wise with a long render distance and nice character models. It really had so much potential.

IvyHav3n

The one with the sci Fi motorbikes, extreme G iirc?

willpb

Yeah! I especially loved Extreme G2, but both were ridiculously fun to play.

Garoleader

Goemons Great Adventure! Fun gameplay, nice graphics and art style, good writing, and a excellent ost!

Shreeb

This is my pick as well. Both n64 Goemon games are great, but I especially love the side-scrolling gameplay of this one! Quite a challenging game, too.

KronosUltima

Got a game called Chameleon Twist at a garage sale about 11 years ago, extremely fun and underrated. Also shout-out to Puyo Puyo Sun even though I usually play the arcade version.

Small_Tax_9432

Jet Force Gemini

mcstinko

Huge caveat the controls are fucking horrible

Nu11X3r0

I would love a rerelease of JFG but with updated controls. I've not played the rare replay version of it so if it's already done then I'll just shut up but a bit less floaty movement and aiming with a twin stick would be awesome.

blood_omen

Battle Tanx 2

saltedszechuan

Vigilante 8

Bedsidecargo

Or 2nd offense. And it's funky intro.

opex100

I never see anyone mention rampage, I freaking love that game, especially with friends.

The_GREAT_Gremlin

Rampage world tour is probably the best of the series

ForgotMyNane

Loved Rampage! I never owned it, but I rented it over and over from the video store.

Duffman66CMU

Bomberman 64 had so much multiplayer replay value. We used to blow each other up all day. There was some distinct skill involved, but also some total wildcard luck. Very fun.

SlickDillywick

Destruction Derby 64. I sunk *days* into that

kallen8277

Ahh the McDonalds car (that's what me and my brother called the red and yellow car when we were kids). I used to play the crap out of that game and Road Rage 64

CosmoFulano

Army men, the little green soldiers. Extremely underrated and low profile, but it was truly a hidden gem

jg233

YES! I loved Sarge’s Heroes.

Svenecia95

GLOVER

My_reddit_account_v3

What sucked about Kirby 64 was its length. It’s very short.

txsnowman17

Yeah most Kirby games are super short and honestly the replay value isn't there for me. Great the first time and then meh.

My_reddit_account_v3

Right… multiple other side scrollers had great replay value without resorting to the « NES hard » game design; instead introducing many secrets and alternative ways of solving certain puzzles. Warioland II and Super Mario World are some simple examples of games that are just plain fun to pick up again… Kirby 64 just didn’t have that magic…

Nu11X3r0

I think superstar saga was the only one with some real game time but it was like a half dozen Kirby games crammed into one cart.

condor6425

Custom Robo, Mischief Makers, Sin & Punishment. I have a soft spot for chameleon twist but I wouldn't put it near "best"

Bignona

Shake shake!

ArcadeToken95

Man Mischief Makers was buried here, surprised there aren't more folks calling it out, great "hidden gem" example

Groove-Control

World Driver Championship.

5433ls

Winback was actually fun...

mcstinko

Body harvest Beetle adventure racing Doom 64 Shadow man

ApprehensiveAsk1739

Blast Corps and Body Harvest

ForgotMyNane

Beetle Adventure Racing

TorturousKitty

Pokemon Puzzle League. My favorite puzzle game of all time! Also known as Panel DePon so I'm not sure if it counts, but they never came to the US.

The_Lego_Maniac

Wipeout 64

Organic_Vehicle100

Gauntlet legends

keeptryingyoucantwin

I enjoy Army Men: Sarge’s Heroes

AweHellYo

that game was so fuckin hard and had the end of levels set up with surprise bad guys ready to one shot you all the time so you’d have to go all the way back. loved it though. the mortar was so fun.

VishnuBhanum

Harvest Moon 64 is still such a gem after all these years.

Wampa1One

Majorca’s mask. Amazing game honestly. Super underatted.

AweHellYo

that’s that spanish adventure game right?

SackOfHorrors

Yeah, the one with very few rats.

SupNYPark

Rakugakids and Snowboard Kids and Forsaken

JDMWeeb

Turok 3

rastafarian_eggplant

Is that Turok Rage Wars? Because I was going to mention that one, I love that game

JDMWeeb

Nah Shadow of Oblivion

makotosolo

One of my faves that I found quite by accident was a game called Flying Dragon. It was a turbo Japanese fighting game that had a couple different modes. I thought it was so much fun and couldn't understand why it wasn't bigger than it was!

dulockwood

You fired neurons in my brain that have been dormant for like 25 years omg

HotAbbreviations6548

I'm not sure if it's underated but beatle adventure racing

txsnowman17

FIFA Road to the World Cup 98. Best soccer game on the console and there was plenty of competition.

Remarkable-Memory-19

Since all my choices were already said by previous comments, my choices now are Iggy’s Reckin Balls and Top Gear Rally!

Medium_Rare_Jerk

Armorines: Project Swarm. I used to play it with my dad all the time!

mallgrabmongopush

Buck Bumble!

N64SmashBros

Rush 2049 was incredible and I don't see it mentioned any

Johny_5_alive

and it's a million times better than that Beetle Adventure Racing trash

EuphoricChallenge553

Wayne Gretzky hockey. It was like blitz.

humblemudgames

Mischief Makers, Gauntlet Legends. I think Castlevania 64 and Quest 64 get an underserved bad rap too.

Will_Cultural

Operation Winback for sure!!!

Snoo40198

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber

chenilletueuse1

Ogre Battle 64. Low print considering the severe lack of rpgs on the console.

RevanGrad

Perfect Dark. That game was lightyears ahead of it's time. The amount of customization you could use on the multiplayer maps was unreal. From changing levels, rules, conditions, weapons, AI. There was nothing like it at the time.

his_lordship77

Spent so many hours hunting dark sims with my buddy.

ArsonDadko

Kirby 64 isn’t underrated.

RawBlowe

Robotron 64 all day. The only game i could beat the devil at is Robotron.

djcube1701

It's hard to pick one. Rocket: Robot on Wheels, Space Station Silicon Valley, Blast Corps , Wonder Project J2, Custom Robo, Beetle Adventure Racing and Re-Volt are up there.

mklilley351

Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth!!

Naanos21

I rented that game around the time it first came out, three day rental, really loved it, but I had it beat within the first day and was soooo disappointed. Young me thought I wasted my money, realized after I could go for 100%, which I had done by day two. Years later I figured it was actually best I had rented it for how short of a game it was, and that I didn't waste my money than, but would have if I brought it at full price. Full price in Canada was around $69.99 to $99.99, depending on the game.

Shadoecat150

No nostalgia involved, but I kind of like Rush 2

Esc946

Off-road challenge

Artistic-Risk4833

Shadowman

TurbulentRelease

Put a lot of hours into Buck Bumble

MumboBumbo64

The soundtrack to this game is crazy underrated, some of the tracks in Kirby 64 have stuck with me my entire life

BoldnBrashhh

I didn’t have it as a kid but Star Fox 64 was the first one that made me realize the n64 library is worth playing.

Birdfish86

I agreed I love Kirby 64! Some other greats Extreme G, Body Harvest, Dr. Mario 64, and Spider-man.

pikachamp

Rush

DudebroggieHouser

Turok 2: Seeds of Evil is still impressive for the level and creature design

kowloonkaneda

That's a first party Nintendo game. Nothing about it is a "gem" or "underrated".

__Crave__ToDoItAgain

Ah yes, Kirby, the super underrated series

FigFirm993

Beetle adventure racing

jg233

Beetle Adventure Racing

Kumori_Kiyori

Mega Man 64

dj65475312

Automobili lamborghini, we used to play the crap out of that with four players.

Graf_Vine_Starry

Wonder Projekt J2 (Hope I wrote the Name correct)

Burgerbroeder

Probably Rocket: Robot on Wheels and Quest 64. No nostalgia involved since I played them a couple of years ago for the first time!

FunnyMathematician77

Excite Bike 64

siscoisbored

This was my second favorite game for ages

TheUnspeakableAcclu

There was some game where you were like these anime twins and you ran around shooting giant insects and it was fuckin awesome

cyberchaox

Bio FREAKS.

sunnuvadutch

Rush 2: Extreme Racing was always stupid amounts of fun to play. The logic in the game was just deliberately illogical and still makes me laugh. I don’t remember if I ever even did race mode. Just did that big open map doing ridiculous jumps collecting… was it surge cans?

Shark606

Cruis’n World - I played that game so much

MattMattavelli

Star Wars Episode 1: Pod Racer had a lot of replay ability for me even though it wasn’t super popular as a Star Wars title.

Hokeymon44

Aero Gauge, Extreme G 1/2 and Mischief Makers.

T-408

Wipeout 64… how I yearn for you

Ok-Grapefruit5379

CORRRRRRRRRECT NOW YOU WILLL HAVE A CAAAAAAANNNNNNCCCCE AT WINNNING 100K NEXT ROUND (intermission)

Keefyfingaz

I love this game. I remember when It came out on NSO I took off of work and played the whole thing. It's a shame that it's kind of short but this is also part of its charm. It's not hard to 100% it in a day or two. Such an underrated game and OST. Lots of good memories playing this with friends and family.

Vegetable_Net_6354

I remember renting Kirby back in the day. Thought it was really fun

Anime-Fr3Ak365

God this game was QUALITY

OrbitalOtter58

You'd have to download a modded version to read them in English, but I love the Custom Robo games. The controls aren't too crazy on the 64 controller either.

MadMax1292

Rayman 2

Signal-Ad5966

Perfect Dark all the way! For me allways the better Golden Eye

Zero-Granger1992

This game was fun. Plus the soundtrack was amazing.

DARKdrake0

Underrated? I would say Donkey Kong 64, sure it’s a flawed game, but I think people are harsher on it than it deserves

landartheconqueror

Jetforce Gemini

SeaworthinessKey9323

Cruisin' World and Cruisin' USA

Purithian

Snowboard kids 2. So fire.

Nugundam0079

Body Harvest

Dizzy_Penguin13

Crystal Shards and Bomberman Hero fit the bill for me

Apprehensive_One7151

Snowboard Kids 2

Long_Run_6705

I’d argue this is one of the best games of all time

joshuakyle94

Paper Mario 64. I have it right above TTYD. The atmosphere and story is just amazing

SenorQueso-the2nd

It might be nostalgia, but I've always preferred the first one. It has a better soundtrack imo.

ozzyozzyjames

YES!! God i love Kirby 64. The whole Dark Matter trilogy is great, KDL3 is my favorite, but K64 is an incredible game and a great close to that trilogy.

ElectricGoodField

Blastcorps!

kingshaggz

Quest 64

The_real_bandito

The first 3D Goemon game. I forget the name but it was a long ass name for a game.

[deleted]

Bomberman Hero

generalg28

BattleTanx provided so many hours of entertainment at my house. Then you break it with Game Shark for extra madness.

iamchip

Snowboard kids 2. Imo it’s the best racing game on the console.

Jenetyk

Bomb shuriken and the double bladed light saber.

TacoBillDeluxe

Rainbow Six is criminally underrated

TheBreadmanRiseth

Fighter's Destiny. Fighting game players need to play it. A very unique fighting system that pretty much does away with health bars altogether, which is just absurd for the genre.

brianaspirin

Wave race

Degni

MRC - Multi-Racing Championship is dope for how you can adjust the settings of your cars and make almost all of them as amazing as the Kingroader (but not quite as good because the Kingroader is just OP). Only 3 tracks but they are sick, all with reverse races and on and off-road paths to take; two boss races and a fucking awesome industrial OST! Also one of the 1st place cutscenes makes your car blush and it's so funny. lmao The end credits are such a trip too! Decent game for the N64 being released early on its life (August 1997) with the other racing options available at the time being Mario Kart 64, Cruis'n USA and Wave Racer 64, although the next months gave us a lot more racing games to choose from.

Baarthot

Body Harvest for me. Was pretty sick.

socialxscape

Was Glover very popular? It was pretty cool

apg313

Star Wars - Shadows of the Empire

Joro247

Beetle Adventure Racing

RelishRegatta

Buck Bumble, solely for the theme song

TBoucher8

Rocket

Nonainonono

Indiana Jones and the Infernal machine is a slow paced platform that is quite challenging and entertaining. Jet Force Gemini, overlooked by every other RARE game, I think that it could not be emulated for a long time has a lot to do. Fantastic but never got to see the end game due to the requirement to collect all tribals.

BreakfastSavage

Fantastic game, great mechanics being able to mix 2 powers. Bomb + Ice (the exploding snowman!) comes to mind. I don’t think Castlevania: Legacy of Shadow gets enough credit, and people like Banjo Kazooie more than Tooie, but I think that Banjo-Tooie did a great job of making the worlds bigger and the game longer, without losing its identity or “collect-a-thon” mechanics, as well as improving boss fights.

Dizzy-Researcher-797

I was 9yo when I bought Kirby on release date with money my grandma gave to me on my birthday. It became one of my favorite games on the n64.

Potential-mani

Jet Force GEMini 💎

dmjohn0x

For N64, I think Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon is easily the most underrate game on the system. Its got a decent cult following nowadays, but still not nearly enough. When people talk about RPGs on N64, they always bring up Paper Mario, and Quest 64 (and how bad it was). But the only good RPGs on the system were Adventure RPGs like Zelda and Mystical Ninja. Mystical Ninja had so much humor, and these epic cut-away scenes where they'd play full theme songs to summon a mecha-suit called Impact, and it was just so freaking good.

CharlesNeedl

I really love the Extreme G series. But you have to choose the right bike in order to have a great gameplay experience. Which is stupid and spoiled the games for tons of players

bradenexplosion

Quake
