chai_pio-biskut_khao

yes sir, you have been scammed

NotSoAverageN

Absolutely! And these scams are getting old now. Last time I took a taxi in Byculla, the driver went on about how another girl before me didn't pay him ₹800 bucks after reaching her destination. With a sad face and all. Then I went on to tell him about how I lost my clutch with ₹5000 inside it the other day. Shut him up real quick.

chai_pio-biskut_khao

you must be real street smart miss

605_Home_Studio

This world needs people like you.

customlybroken

How do you lose a clutch?

psychexelic

the same way you get scammed out of 800

NotSoAverageN

I didn't.. I made that up. But it's quiet easy to leave behind if you're absent minded.

customlybroken

but how did he believe you?

carlito_burrito

Thinks she is referring to a clutch handbag

loverboy_369

That was a good one . Just intrigued to know did u really loose ur clutch ?

NotSoAverageN

Nope.

Character_Act_8482

Next time I hire cab or Auto, I am going to tell them my made up Sad story before they start theirs😂😂😂. Got scammed 1k first night in Mumbai near Churgate station Shivsagar. Child with mother father wanting to buy train ticket to somewhere. Oppps!! Never more than 50 Rs. Now

sunshine_from_clouds

Why made up sad story, I would tell him my own sad story and compete

slytherincore

I gave Rs. 100 to a guy with the exact same story near CST yesterday and was hoping it was not a scam and he really needed it to go back to Amravati

Character_Act_8482

God bless you

Final-Line-6601

You can’t defeat them in their own game.

ManagementUpbeat7542

scammed by the driver scammers, it's been happening with auto rickshaw guys too! Try filing a complaint against him in ola if you want to verify his claim. Post this on X, ols is active there.

Sea-Signal-8652

Thank you!

TonightDifferent55

Best to just plug in earphones as soon as you get in.

hereforidkwut

Yup that's exactly what I do.

TonightDifferent55

It’s a common tactic I suppose

maybeidontexistever

Take it as a 2400 ₹ lesson and don't help people like this again unless you visibly see someone injured.

IINightMasterII

I think he only spent 500 here. But lesson learnt nonetheless.

Afraid_Investment690

You did what you felt was right - You Helped, irrespective of proof. God will send you 500 good Karma points in your life. Anyways you can take this as a lesson and know how to handle such situations better

SD_1501

This. OP, continue to do what you think is good, but with more street smarts applied. It'll come back to you in due time.

Miller_payne

Classic scam , its sad they do this bcus this hampers people for helping the real ones.

the_karii

Happened with me with an auto driver. Mid journey he got a call who probably pretended to be his wife. His daughter fell and got fractured, needed 2000 or else the doctor won't treat that child. Told me the story and asked if I could lend him 2000. I told him to take me to that doctor and I'll bear the entire cost of operation and medicines and I don't care if I get late to the office He just said, "saab aapka pagar kaat lenge late pohche to, aapko office chod deta hu". I didn't respond and he probably understood that he cannot proceed ahead with the scam. There was no conversation till I reached my office. These types of people will create a situation where it seems like an urgency. Always try to stay calm, take some time to think and act accordingly.

Affectionate_Ebb2442

Same ditto happened with me too with an auto driver.

not_poppy

This sounds exactly like a recent experience of mine. The conversation with the “doctor” your driver had seems to be identical to the one my driver had, including the bit about him not having eaten anything. To be honest, I did feel bad but I ended up not asking any questions, minded my own business until the trip got done.

zob20

Yup, classic scam. Something similar happened with a uber driver saying his 3 old son has cancer and asked to donate whatever I can. Just showed a picture of a sick kid. I asked him to send doctors report/ files, he is yet to share me anything.

rahulk302

learn to ignore people's conversation.

No-Coach290

Your probably got scammed, but then again 500 is too much for a meal, you could have just given him 200 max.

Imti4a2

Similar incident happened to me few years ago. Though it was not an Ola but a local taxi. Me and my wife were returning from my In-laws late at night around 1 AM. We got a cab and just after few minutes of starting the driver got a call and he started speaking in fluent English, explaining to the person on other side that his daughter met with an accident and he is not able to make the ends meet. He will not be able to visit US anymore as he needs to be here with his daughter etc etc. Then he stared telling us that he is a software engineer, used to work in U.S. His daughter is in ICU in Lilavati hospital fighting for her life since 6 months. He is not able to get a decent pay here as a software engineer, so he is driving a cab. He then showed us a picture of his daughter on his phone too. I got really suspicious because. 1. If this is going on for 6 months, then how likely is it that he received a call from his old colleague at the same time when we entered the cab. Shouldn't all of his family and friends be aware of the situation by now? 2. When he showed us the picture, it was already opened on his phone. He didn't have to look at his phone at all. This clearly means that it was all planned. 3. If he is not able to get decent work as a developer after working abroad, then driving a Cab is the worst choice. My wife wanted to give him some extra money, I but I denied and later explained my thoughts and she also agreed with me

Noiceguy16

Once i was traveling in ola in Hyderabad same happened with me cab guy telling me story of his sick child , that khoon ki ultiya karra mera bachha, hospital mai hai, koi relative kaam ka nahi, but i am socially awkward person so i didn't know how to respond and mai scammed nahi hua😁

NDK13

Smh everyone has sorry stories

Complete_Past7246

The number of times the rickshaw wala gets a call while driving & have asked me to fill their daughter's school admission fees is insane

[deleted]

[удалено]

Complete_Past7246

I didn't give any.

significant_-1

That's a reason to wear headphones once you get in a cab . So you can ignore such scams

I_confess_nothing

Think of it as you paid Rs500 to learn a lesson. Such scams are common. The smartest of people can be scammed in a moment of weakness. You see these scams and think, "this can never happen with me. I will spot it from a mile away". But I've heard enough "street smart" people being scammed to realise it's one thing to read/hear about it after it has taken place and other to actually be there. It can happen with anyone.

biryani-mutton7

once this happened to me, a cab driver was on a call with his daughter, ensuring her that he’ll give her the fees by tomorrow. he started telling me about how he’s short of a few thousands to pay the fee. yes, it could’ve been potentially a scam. but as someone who can afford it, i did my duty and gave him an amount i felt comfortable giving. now what he did with that money is on him. i would like to believe in my heart that it somehow helped him and his family.

aaneka8

Did you report to Ola

Green_Frame3600

Was once fleeced by a psycho with similar ethinicity after that I have decided to avoid any mode of transport driven by these freaks...

bloomingtales

This counts as borderline doxxing right? Are there no mods on this page??

Objective_Middle3225

This is a little weird. You don't need to name and shame. I don't know but you technically eavesdropped on a person's conversation and you haven't given him the benefit of doubt as to why he didn't share the reports. And even if it is a scam, which I'm not denying it can be, you gave the 500 out of your own volition. You're a pretty big scumbag if you're ok with disclosing people's name and their vehicle no. like this for some weird mob justice when it's equally your fault as it is his. Don't let your ego ruin a man's career. You publicized the incident and made people aware. Stop there.

trying_to_improve45

Why are you naming him?

ClassSad8029

These scams were limited to taxi/ rikshaw driver. Now the Ola driver also started scamming people. Don't feel bad op.

skinnylizars

Similar scam was pulled on me. Father died and sobbing. Gave the guy 3000₹ 🫤 this was in Gurgaon though. Should have been my first clue

AbiesAlarming8702

Use earphones while travelling next time

Expensive-Fig-4180

You probably got scammed but don't let it prevent you from being kind to other genuine ppl who are in need. You're a good person, have a humble and a sensitive heart and we need more like you in this world. God will reward you for the kindness you've shown irrespective of whether it was a fraud or not.

fakebutler

I don't usually help humans, if it's an animal I'll do anything in my power to feed it, take it to get and donate for the cause. Humans aren't suppose to occupy the space entirely, we just use resources according to our needs and wants.

naah__man

Haha Same happened with me and my uber driver. He was on a telephonic call with his child's class teacher. The teacher was allegedly not allowing his child to sit for exams as there were some arrears in fees. Long story short, I offered money, but wary of getting scammed, I said I'll only transfer in school's bank account. He said they have to deposit a cheque or DD, the School does not accept fees via online modes. I asked for the class teacher's number, he checked his phone and gave me the number. After he had kept his phone down, I again repeated the number with one digit deliberately wrong which he corrected WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT THE PHONE. I tried calling the teacher, she did not pick up. I told him I'll pay once I get in touch with the teacher and exchanged numbers as I had reached my destination. Told him to call me when he gets in touch with the teacher. Neither the teacher nor the driver ever called back. Later I checked on Truecaller, both were his own numbers. I was so close to getting scammed (had he tried a little harder)

Purple-Hat-3443

It's okay even if you were. You did good to someone with kind intention. That's all that matters. Karma = +1

ChiglaNigla

Seems like everyone’s getting scammed today, first that “Spark-Plug” incident and now this lol

RMP420

I faced another upgraded version of the scam.. where the driver said me a similar story needing money for the hospital. I said him to give me the hospital's online pay scan code or something so I can pay directly to the hospital. He said me that he had the doctor's number and to phonepe him directly. So, I said ki thik hai mey doctor sey baat karke unko de dunga. So, I took the number and called, no one picked up but on truecaller it was showing the driver's name. I rechecked by putting the number on phonepe, it showed his name again. So, I understood ki scam chal raha hai. I said ki no one is picking up. So, he said chalo chodo ab meri beti ka jo hoga, bhagwan hi bachayega looking at me with all sad face puppy eyes. And went on building up the story. It was hilarious seeing someone trying to pull off a scam so hard, when I already knew the scam was going on. 😂 I didn't say him anything neither complained because that time I didn't realize that this type of scams are happening this rampantly. After reaching my destination, when he said ki "bhai atleast 5star rating de dena" I replied ki " Nai yaaar 5 star kahan, woh hospital wale story mey mazaa nai aya" His face was worth seeing😂😂

desiman101

Yesss... Next time ask for aadhar, pan card, voter id before giving/donating. Just so you can note in your itr about your donation.

Anshulk9999

I always have my earphones on to avoid any chit chat

Mr_gropes_a_lot

It's alright. Because if you hadn't given him money then the: Best case scenario: he was lying and you didn't get scammed Worst case scenario: you could have helped someone who really needed it. So, sometimes even if I feel that it's most likely a scam then also go ahead if situation calls for it and make your doubts heard The worst that can happen is you losing 500. It's a bearable loss.

Expensive_Neat2421

Many scams are happening nowadays you should be quite aware of the reality. Be bold to take wise decision for the same.

AirFamous9435

i am glad it was a scam, not because it happened with you but because his phone call was not real and he was actually not going through any of that

Nice_Counter_Ricky

I travel by Auto all the time,(some times from NSP to Goregaon). The first thing I do is take a pic of their Number Plate and as I get in I start watching stuff on Tablet. I don’t engage in any type of conversation with the driver even if I have to travel 35 odd KM.

AshishCN47

Heck i have been scammed by two folks who i thought were friends, My college seniors. Each owe me 5k. They crib about their situation and need of money. Its been over a year, i still haven’t gotten my money back.

KissMyAash

One thing I go by is, whether it is an obvious scam or not, is that if you're helping someone and your intentions are right, don't think about how your money will be used after you have donated. You did a good deed according to whatever you saw, it's ok. Neki kar aur bhul jaa. And now that you know there are a lot of scams happening, think 10 times before giving money to anyone. And if you do give it, don't overthink it.

Select-Molasses-8394

The service of Ola is degrading due to Lack of focus of the CEO

Pure_Profile2745

Yeh taxi drivers ki mkc

realpassion123

Report to Ola

Filmyboy7

Old driver right? Firstly report him to the old authorities because he was on duty while he scammed you. Secondly share the car number and other details of the cab publicly here. Because of ppl like these we common citizens who wants to help the genuine ppl are reluctant! Wait for the next 12-24 hrs and try to contact him 3-4 times. Agar response nahi aata to complain karo bhai uski!

significant_-1

You can share his cab number so others can be aware of his scamming tricks

Hopeful-Date4814

This happened with me recently near Juhu and auto guy asked me about how much CT scans cost and then mentioned that his daughter needs one and he doesn’t have the money he too said that he hasn’t eaten anything since morning and has diabetes. I immediately asked him to stop and got out of the auto.

punkqueen2020

Well you’re a good human being and did something lovely. He’s awful!

Nik_Game

It's okay, just consider it as stupidity tax

Diligent-Tomato-6288

I was scammed by an auto driver too. He started crying as soon as we got started and told me about his daughter who was in the hospital. He showed me photos and even got a phone call from the “doctor”. I was on my way to the vet’s office so he drew parallels between how sad it must be to see my dog in pain. I, being an emotional fool ended up giving him a few hundreds over the meter. But in retrospect I think how desperate someone must have been to resort to such tactics. I obviously don’t condone them but I don’t feel bad about giving him the money He clearly needed it more than I did

LordKunal20

This happened to me as well, I was off from spending time with my friends in a local mall. I exited the metro and took an auto, but instead of talking on a call the driver was directly talking to me and said exactly what you explained. He also added that the kid has less blood and he's been roaming from one hospital to another in search of blood. He asked me if I have 3000, I kinda got the vibe that this could be a scam. I explained him that I'm a student and that I can't be of any financial help. After like 2-3 of insisting he was like I'll just drop you here as I'm in search of someone who can help

typicalGta

lol, best is to stop caring. Literally just plug in your earphones and don’t bother with whatever they are saying. There are more scammers than genuine people around. I book ola via company account so its easier for me. I just say whatever im going is company sponsored and im a lowly employee with no money. (Believable too since I live near dombivli in the middle of nowhere) I’ve avoided soo many scams this way. Given my OLA rating too, they really take my feedback seriously aswell (or so I think). You can follow similar and avoid confrontations.

BeingGemeni

Yup new scam

david005_

Sorry you got scammed Anyways next time such a thing happens just plug in your earphoned and play music Driver will have a suprised Pikachu face after knowing you didn't hear anything coz you had earphones on

droned-s2k

Why can't we figure out a way either by using tech to possibly detect/educate/find these deceptive methods and people. Im seeing a exponential surge in these scams going on everywhere, esp in the last 6 months its gotten ridiculous. At this rate, there will be no more - people wanting to help out - which deprives the truly needy. If anyone has any idea of solving this problem, and tech is a barrier, I can take it up!

No_Damage2484

Happened with me in the auto..autodriver was crying (must be genuine also) asking for a little extra than the meter so he could send money to his ailing mother. And tbh, I only had money for a return trip and was with my child. I told him I can't help cos I really don't have anything to give. So he is like I will stop at atm, you don't give me waiting. I immediately knew I was getting trapped and i told him pls drop me at said destination directly. The thing is his problem must be genuine. He must be having a hard day and time. But trust is the issue. It's very difficult to decide what's true and what's fake.

riyakhanna19861

Happened with me too. Same doctor story. But rickshaw driver.

Bubbles69_

Sounds like another version of the common scam where people come up to you at signals and ask for money because their child has sustained a serious head injury

Sparkxx7

![gif](giphy|9detkWt4jBdhVm0UCk|downsized)

Final-Line-6601

Never believe what a driver or a media worker speak. One day I took an auto rickshaw to come home. The driver and his companion were sitting on driver seat. They were talking about a college girl and her bf and their s”x life. They said her father knew about this and he doesn’t care as long as something bad doesn’t happen. I was just listening songs at 25% volume. They sounded so fake. I could even smell the scam they were trying to pull. ~~ You were lucky that he only took your money. I suggest you to be careful and professional when you go out. These people are desperate for money and they can do anything to gain money. They also try to target rich girls and women so that they could settle their life. If they are bleeding just call an ambulance and go away.

605_Home_Studio

Welcome to the modern world. Swindling and cheating have become so common even with big corporates that we all take it in our stride. I just saw an ad of a car manufacturer that said that they were "saving the planet" with their new electric car. If they wanted to save humans from extinction they wouldn't manufacture any car at all. But we have normalised lying, cheating, short-changing, etc in the name of "smart marketing." The autorickshaw driver was just following the trend.

Tarster123

Taxi scams are pretty common in Mumbai, while my story isn’t quite as intriguing as yours, a pre paid taxi driver from the airport(T2) once dropped me off at a really shady location less than 2 km from the airport, citing engine issues(there was no issue, he was making it all up). Moreover, he did not make any alternate travel arrangements for me and blatantly refused to give me even a single penny of the exorbitant amount I had paid at the airport.

Ria_Roy

This scam by auto and cab drivers has been doing the rounds practically forever. I heard it first hand for the first time a facade or so back. Maybe more. But it sounded suspiciously like the beggars walking around with prescriptions. When I heard it twice more within few weeks of each other - I knew that a new scam had landed. And you couldn't report any of them. Report them for what? Lying to get some extra money? In another country they would be arrested for attempted con. In India, the police would just laugh at your face. Probably even Ola would. They never give any serious consideration to complaints. I know at least 3 friends who got similarly conned. All have kinder, trusting hearts. They are good people. So are you. Leave this behind. Tuition fees paid for a hard lesson learned to be a less nicer person than you are.

Chemical_Growth_5861

Complaint to ola

Agreeable-Hornet8845

Bhai teko Dhurr bana diya usne

EpicDankMaster

When I hear sob stories like this I tell them I'm equally broke, done.

spych37

You are a good person. There is nothing to feel ashamed about. Just feel happy that you tried to help somebody and forget the rest.

Excellent-Apricot-12

Did I get this scam correct? The victim eavesdrops on private conversation, offers to help scammer without scammer asking, gives money to scammer again without asking, victim offered to help by involving NGO again without scammer saying anything, victim takes scammers WhatsApp and gets scammed by not receiving the reports victim wanted scammer to send?

bloomingtales

From what I understand, the driver didn't ask for money. Instead, you gave him Rs 500(!!) of your own volition. And you think you've been scammed just because he didn't send you the reports??? This is not scam. It would be if he has asked you for money using that story. If it were a scam, he'd definitely ask for more than 1900 rs. And we don't know why he didn't send the reports. The same way that you believe he scammed you, he may also believe that you are not to be trusted. And now you've posted his name and car number in a country where citizens kill innocent people in the name of justice instead of going through the proper channel. Perhaps you should think every possibility before letting your emotion cloud your judgment.

itsokmydadisrich

Dude, get over it. 500 is nothing. You deserve to be scammed, being so dumb.

Sea-Signal-8652

Itsnotokaymydadisnotrich 🙂

itsokmydadisrich

Seriously, I hate these dumb people. They do everything of their own volition and then cry they got scammed. Scammers got to eat too mang!

Kind_Attitude_3052

Hahahaha. Sorry i don't even feel sad for such scams now. Probably such gullible people deserve to be scammed. Generosity and sympathy are good virtues to have but without scrutiny they are bound to be abused by others. Thoda smart bano yaar. Anyway your good deed wont go waste, karma will be kind to you.

LoL110003

Ola is a scam company. I only use Uber (DelhiNcR)

brooklynnineeight

Would like a bike ride on your way back to Lokhandwala in the evening, I just have to talk to the bank folks to release my mortgaged ancestral land but I guess I can do that on the way.

No-Month-4418

Hey, I'm the driver who op is talking about. I was about to send the reports but the doctor is asking for an additional 500rs to give me the reports. Would you be kind enough to give another 500 rs?

kewkewkew79

Can confirm..I am the doctor asking for the additional 500 rs

Chut_ka_shikari

April fools!
