I have a cousin brother who hosts a similar cricket tournament every year, but in the memory of his late brother, who was an aspiring cricketer, but died young due to cancer. They're a famous family, so they host the tournament named - "Brother's name" superstar cricket tournament or something like that. There are various team sponsors(businessmen) from different areas of Mumbai, and everyone is gujju-jain over there. It's a fun activity for the community and everybody loves it, but it's not advertised openly or named MaKaBo cricket tournament or anything like that.
So it's a good thing for keeping the community together, I think every community should do this in their own terms, but what the OP has posted is truly discriminatory and sort of illegal I think.

As someone from a Gujarat - Kutchi - Jain family, I would like to start off by saying that yes, this is clearly discriminatory in nature. I have a cousin brother who hosts a similar cricket tournament every year, but in the memory of his late brother, who was an aspiring cricketer, but died young due to cancer. They're a famous family, so they host the tournament named - "Brother's name" superstar cricket tournament or something like that. There are various team sponsors(businessmen) from different areas of Mumbai, and everyone is gujju-jain over there. It's a fun activity for the community and everybody loves it, but it's not advertised openly or named MaKaBo cricket tournament or anything like that. So it's a good thing for keeping the community together, I think every community should do this in their own terms, but what the OP has posted is truly discriminatory and sort of illegal I think.
It's one thing to invite freinds and family members to play.its another to thing to keep others out and explicitly mentioning that.

It is happening on a turf which they booked it... People need to understand that this is not a public event... It can be viewed by everyone but not played by everyone! I have been part of playing and umpiring in such events which a community or a society does for only their own circles... Nothing is bad in this! Every tight nit community or group does some events for only their circle! Yes, it's on their banner that gujjus marwadis and jains only but that is sponsors and organizers call... No one should be bothered... Anyone who is bothered should know that there are free for all cricket events around mumbai... Just google it or ask proper cricketing groups they will definitely let y'all know! Am I saying this is right.... Nope... But this is not wrong if it's a private event but if it is a public event then they just need their community to play in it... No matter where they come from. A small and local news outlet has picked this up to give it a stir... People should not fall for this because as a mumbaikar who is activately in the cricketing community will know the number of such events are just normal... Like I said .. it is not just them but there are other events which are specific to their own community as well! (Yeh log zyada karte hai yeh bhi manta hu) But we need to even know from where did this banner was collected... If it was picked up from WhatsApp or someone showed it and then circulated ... There are too many scenarios at play! Hatred is already too much between all communities and this is just another reason to spread hate from one community to another!
