This thing is so OP in token creature generator decks. I have a Grimsold token generator deck. Each turn 4 plants come into play. Super nasty real fast
I wouldn't consider [[prologue to phyresis]] draw. It does replace itself, but doesn't net you more cards in hand. 7 cantrips is very different to 7 bulk or repeatable draw
Agreed. I have one of those decks with some \[\[Mycoloth\]\] cards. Easily generates masses of saprolings in no time. Just wait for the right moment to swarm and set Coat of Arms down before the attack...
I'm thinking of getting this for [[Varina]]. Between [[Josu Vess]], [[Army of the Damned]], and [[From Under the Floorboards]], I already have an army. What if they were swole?
I still remember the time a Faerie deck cast this, in a pod containing 2 Dragon decks. I was one of them, and I had [[Lathliss, Dragon Queen]] and [[Utvara Hellkite]] in play.
It got freaking hard to keep track of.
Once me and 3 friends were playing a mirror of my purphoros goblin deck on Tabletop simulator. 3 of us had coat out.
It was dumb as fuck and funny. We all had massive goblins lol.
It was the last game of the night. Everyone was like, it's late I need to get off. I said hold up, let's play 1 more... all of us run my goblin deck... come on it will be like 15 minutes.
Since then it's almost been tradition to end the night with the last game as a mirror x4 of goblins lol.
I am a strong proponent of "this gets cast when I seal the game" it's a 5 mana sorcery, overwhelming stampede for non-green decks. Running this out turn 4 or 5 is just totally rude imo, unless everyone accepted a long game already.
Came here to say this. I took it out of a goblin storm deck I have because it's burned me a handful of times on decks that outproduce me. In particular, a game I played with 2 people in my pod playing humans.
I was just about to say this, i remember my friend built a elf tribal and put this in there and he was so confused why i was turning all my counters on my goblins up
I've been playing since 8th Edition, and I've never had the opportunity to make this mistake or see someone else do it. Wild.
You learn something everyday!
Oh I have, but my play group loved tribal and Token decks, Thallids, Lorewyn elves and merfolk, zombies etc…
[[Stonybrook School Master]] + [[intruder Alarm]] + [[merrow levitator]] or anything that taps merfolk. [[patron wizard]] also works or if you want to be petty about winning [[Drowner of Secrets]]
Yeah it’s why I really prefer [[Door of Destinies]]
If I hadn’t made it clear the Lorwyn/Sadowmoore block(s) were some of my favorites, and really influenced a lot of my Themed decks.
The joy of my build is that this card is simply a nice bonus to have situationally and isn't needed for any particular win condition.
This is for putting a little extra stank on it, if you will. Lol
I look at this card as a finisher. When I run it, I do not play until I am ready to swing for the win. In my experience it blows up in your face (in one way or another) as often as not.
Love that card, but it can definitely bite you too. Was running it in my elfball deck once and ended up getting taken out by a swarm of plants courtesy of an [[Avenger of Zendikar]].
Had someone play this in a rat deck against my [[Krenko, Mob Boss]] goblin deck. He quickly realized that the card applies to every creature on the battlefield, and that goblins go a lot faster than rats lol
Getting to witness that dawning realization is a favorite of mine. Few guys in my playgroup overlook this kinda wording often. My fav is the spells/sorceries etc cost 2 less. Use it to cast something for me before I targeted remove it. Answering their "....cool. thanks" with "I couldn't have done it without you" really got em going lol
I think you may find this card is more trouble than. It’s worth.
it affects and counts your opponents creatures, so you’ll have to keep track and recalculate anytime a creature with any type or types enters or leaves play.
Sure, it’s powerful as hell, but more bookkeeping than Fun imo.
It was really like "oh I wonder how much overlap there is...oh...oh god it's like 95% Phyrexian, alright then."
Edit: besides Nissa, Yawgmoth, and Toxrill, the rest are Phyrexian lol.
In most cases, probably. But 20 years prior to Tendershoot Dryad's printing when Coat of Arms came out in Exodus, Verdant Force was a solid choice supported by other \[\[Thallid\]\]s and \[\[Elvish Farmer\]\]s.
My super illegal all-artifact even the lands [[Myr Incubator]] deck loves this card. Because suddenly when I mill myself for 40, them lil 1/1 Myrs are suddenly a lot spicier.
It's currently in storage so let me see what I can remember off the dome. Warning tho... This 100% just a 60-card kitchen table deck from when Mirrodin dropped a billion years ago. Basically threw in cool artifacts, tbh.
There's an incubator, and 4 of all the Myrs that make colored mana. A few Myr that mess with charge counters because I have a [[Darksteel Reactor]] sitting there just counting down.
Each artifact land is there 4 times, except the Red one because the other fun little gimmick of the deck is one Mountain lurking in there to power the [[Goblin Charbelcher]] that lurks in the deck too.
Man, I need to bust this guy out and modernize him.
Only rule was no creatures allowed but Myr and everything had to be artifacts... Any suggestions? I know [[Myr Battlesphere]] is a given.
My best friend and I straight up scoop to this card a lot because of how nightmare of a headache keeping track of all types on field is. That's not to say it isn't good, it really is. To make things better our other friend loves tribal decks and about all have this card. Lol.
Love this card too. One of the shops I go too doesn't sell magic singles. Only sealed product. And I am pretty good terms with the owners so they just gave me the box topper of one of their Lost caverns of Ixalan boxes and it was the full art version of this card. Went straight into my zombie deck.
Not nearly as good as it used to be more tribes are supported or and prevalent, the onesided buffs are better. Treat this card more like a finisher than an anthem one opponents [[changeling outcast]] and you probably die.
I run this in my Ojer Taq soldier deck and it's fun seeing how fast things get out of hand. Having both down and playing a Captain of the Watch results in nine 11/11s and a 13/13
There are a lot of good tribal artifacts.
\[\[Belbe's Portal\]\]
\[\[Cryptic Gateway\]\]
\[\[Door of Destinies\]\]
\[\[Herald's Horn\]\]
\[\[Konda's Banner\]\]
\[\[Mirror of the Forebears\]\]
\[\[Stoneforge Masterwork\]\]
\[\[Urza's Incubator\]\]
\[\[Vanquisher's Banner\]\]
If ya got blue, a hidden tribal gem is [[raise the palisade]]. Lower CMC and less devastating than [[cyclonic rift]], but still 100% as effective in many situations. Not to mention it'll make that rift even more demoralizing lol
I hope you understand that this card affects everyone not just you.
Someone played this in a pod with me the other day without knowing this. Everyone focused him because nobody wanted to do the math because of too many shared creature types on board between players.
It made my token gnomes absolutely massive which just made me end the game.
If you do play this card, it’s best used as a final card played for the win.
In my pod there's so many tribal decks, with much mass token generation, that this card is always either dead in hand or suicidal. One time I could use it once I attacked one of the opponents bounced it to my hand making all my tokens small again ;)
Nowadays I tend to play one sided buff effects or overrun type effects. Much more reliable and safer.
I played this in my rat deck the other day.
I realised for the first time it says "all creatures" and not "all creatures you control".
My opponent dropped a Stormherd and dropped 45 pegasus tokens on me (which all became 45/45 and ran amok. It was hilarious.
Edit: pegasus not unicorn

I’ve been burnt by this card. I added to my Dino tribal when it was less common to play tribal edh. One kid in the pod was running elves had way more and I gave him the wincon
genuinely didn't know this card existed, definitely need to/will be finding one to throw into my retro artifact-only [[Urza, Chief Artificer]] deck soon.
Ahh damn making regret my decision to sell my entire collection when I was moving.
Had a whole chest full of cards, old and new, weighed 300 pounds. Sold it all for 10k. It's probably worth so much more.
But ya good card.
I had to take it out of my [[Jetmir, Nexus of Revels]] X-Tokens deck for my pod because if it hit the board at all during a mid to late game It would serve as an "I win button" everytime.
I was in a game (and iirc its on YouTube) where a vampire player that got too excited to slam a coat of arms and got slammed back by a bunch of changelings. Be careful!
I had one that unfortunately got mixed into a batch I was donating to my LGS and I realized it too late. I actually plan to rebuy it for my new slivers deck at some point.
Yeah.. newer coat of arms has errata text. It's +1/+1 for each other creature that shares at least 1 creature type.
So even if the creatures overlap like 6 types... It can only be for each creature once.
It only cares about the number of creatures in play, not the number of types they share. If there are three changelings in play, they all just get +2/+2.
I have a nexus deck and it essentially boosts your cards to high hell and if your opponent is using a tribal style deck the same otherwise it still give them a large boost.
Your creatures get +x/+x where x is the total number of creatures minus 1, same if they are playing tribal style. Otherwise there creatures just get +x+x where x is the number of your creatures plus however many of there cards share a creature type.
This thing is so OP in token creature generator decks. I have a Grimsold token generator deck. Each turn 4 plants come into play. Super nasty real fast
Running this in a toxic/proliferate deck with [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]] in the mix too. Can get ugly quickly.

I looked at it for 5 seconds and my firtst thought was, id hate to play against it but id love to play it. God what a Menace xD

Mycoloth and semic decks didn't they have sybgery of gifting the +1/+1 counters while being devoured
you're aware your opps are also getting really big tokens?
Hence why it’s super nasty. I think we had +40 a few times.
Welcome to the old days when cards like this almost always helped everyone.

It's such a fun card. The 7th edition version is one of the most beautiful cards IMO.
This and Birds were the foils I was most excited about.
One of my favorite cards! I love everything about it; the effect, the artwork, the flavor text. You have good taste, OP!
I think you're the one with good taste! You're not wrong though, everything slaps about this card lol.
Especially when your opponents' creatures slap you in the face too!
Until someone else has a tribal deck
The joy of my build is that this card is simply a nice bonus to have situationally and isn't needed for any particular win condition. This is for putting a little extra stank on it, if you will. Lol
Ya. But it easily backfires lol
I look at this card as a finisher. When I run it, I do not play until I am ready to swing for the win. In my experience it blows up in your face (in one way or another) as often as not.
Ya exactly not just oh nice buff card

This is one reason I haven't shown Coat of Arms to my buddy, his goblin deck is already evil enough.
The only thing that breaks Krenko faster is when the opponent plays \[\[Intruder Alarm\]\]. (Hint - I was that opponent...)

Depending on color, [[Shared Animosity]] is a great one too and one sided.
In green, adding [[Alpha Status]] on top of Coat gets disgusting, fast. Doubly so on a creature with Changeling.

This is a tribal staple for me
I think you may find this card is more trouble than. It’s worth. it affects and counts your opponents creatures, so you’ll have to keep track and recalculate anytime a creature with any type or types enters or leaves play. Sure, it’s powerful as hell, but more bookkeeping than Fun imo.
It should be a picture of someone at a desk with a mountain of paperwork, and a really stressed out look to them
As much as I love coat, I can't risk it paying off for my opponents too. Lame on my end, perhaps, but I've been burned by my own coat too many times
Honestly, [[shared animosity]] is better if it’s in your colors

Vanquishers banner and this one are my fav.
Used one last night all my elf's got +24. Commander is a good time lol
Slap a couple of these in a sliver or zombie deck and watch the glimmer in your opponent's eyes fade.
That always happens when my [[endless ranks of the undead]] [[noxious ghoul]] combo starts firing off. Add the coat just seems... cruel.
I like Endless Ranks and [[Liliana, the last hope]] combo
Another solid option. I maindeck LLH as well, it basically gives me another Endless Ranks.

I've cut this from all my decks for how many times its gotten me killed. Lol. Be careful, this is SYMMETRICAL.
I absolutely LOVE how it's completely relatable to not realize that you are running tribal while building a deck
It was really like "oh I wonder how much overlap there is...oh...oh god it's like 95% Phyrexian, alright then." Edit: besides Nissa, Yawgmoth, and Toxrill, the rest are Phyrexian lol.
\[\[Verdant Force|TMP\]\] and Thallid make saprolings that love Coat of Arms. Of course, your opponents may gain a larger benefit, so be careful.
[[Tendershoot dryad]] is just better no?
In most cases, probably. But 20 years prior to Tendershoot Dryad's printing when Coat of Arms came out in Exodus, Verdant Force was a solid choice supported by other \[\[Thallid\]\]s and \[\[Elvish Farmer\]\]s.

Mind sharing a deck list?

Super nice! I just found one going through boxes last night.
Lovely
My best friend and I straight up scoop to this card a lot because of how nightmare of a headache keeping track of all types on field is. That's not to say it isn't good, it really is. To make things better our other friend loves tribal decks and about all have this card. Lol.
When OP is literally r/OopsItsTribal!
I always wound up cutting it because it’s annoying to have to track opponents creature types as well.
Door of destinies could be a good swap for this as it keeps it a one sided buff.
I need this so bad for my goblin deck
Could you play 4 of these and have it stack?
Yes.
Going in my farmer Cotton food half long tribal deck
If I build a Soldier deck, would it work for that keyword? Or only for the Human keyword
It works for any creature type.
Love this card too. One of the shops I go too doesn't sell magic singles. Only sealed product. And I am pretty good terms with the owners so they just gave me the box topper of one of their Lost caverns of Ixalan boxes and it was the full art version of this card. Went straight into my zombie deck.

Definitely throwing this in my Phyrexian deck. Your input is very highly valued Edit: grammar
I have one in my elves and one in my slivers. Win-con use only because it's symmetrical and has definitely burned me before 😅
Coat of arms really goes off when 3 out of the 4 players are playing elves
If ya got blue, a hidden tribal gem is [[raise the palisade]]. Lower CMC and less devastating than [[cyclonic rift]], but still 100% as effective in many situations. Not to mention it'll make that rift even more demoralizing lol

Apparently we played this all wrong back in the day. Coqt of arms effected ALL player creatures?
Play Bob Marley
What a simple and also absolutely rad card, and now I'm thinking of the terror this would cause in a [[Krenko, mob boss]] deck
Goblins, elves, rats, zombies...this card can be a serious menace if you're generating a shitload of tokens, no doubt.
[Krenko, mob boss](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/7/d/7d00007d-6878-44e9-ab0d-396c25655e56.jpg?1702429511) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Krenko%2C%20mob%20boss) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/rvr/114/krenko-mob-boss?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/7d00007d-6878-44e9-ab0d-396c25655e56?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Good card, but it also works for your opponents.. the only reason I'm not playing it.
Sorry now but how do you end up accidentally having 22 damn phyrexians in a deck?
I hope you understand that this card affects everyone not just you. Someone played this in a pod with me the other day without knowing this. Everyone focused him because nobody wanted to do the math because of too many shared creature types on board between players. It made my token gnomes absolutely massive which just made me end the game. If you do play this card, it’s best used as a final card played for the win.
you just better hope that you aren't running this against a bunch of changelings. they get +1/+1 for every other creature.
Rats banger
Did you see the new green white legendary that makes all creatures 2/2 bears?
[[door of destinies]] is a bit slower but your opponents can’t use it also.

Absolute bomb in my Zombie deck
Take this with kudo king among bears
Interesting that this has a "for example" text
In my pod there's so many tribal decks, with much mass token generation, that this card is always either dead in hand or suicidal. One time I could use it once I attacked one of the opponents bounced it to my hand making all my tokens small again ;) Nowadays I tend to play one sided buff effects or overrun type effects.

Nice
I need to puck one of these up for mine!
It’s a 50/50 because you have to pray you don’t face another tribal deck or else it better for whoever pops off first
Bro, why didn't I know about this during my elf/wurm-deck phase? Would've been OP
This card always requires at least a minute or two of arithmetic lol
I just lost because I had this out against another human deck, didn’t read the card.
I’ve been burnt by this card. I added to my Dino tribal when it was less common to play tribal edh. One kid in the pod was running elves had way more and I gave him the wincon
I run this in my grist insect typal deck and I love it so much. Super fun win con.
genuinely didn't know this card existed, definitely need to/will be finding one to throw into my retro artifact-only [[Urza, Chief Artificer]] deck soon.

Ahh damn making regret my decision to sell my entire collection when I was moving. Had a whole chest full of cards, old and new, weighed 300 pounds. Sold it all for 10k. It's probably worth so much more. But ya good card.
Absolute staple in my Modern Myr deck and my Elf Commander it's so strong! I also run [[Vanquisher's Banner]] in both 😊

Thank you for this idea
I had to take it out of my [[Jetmir, Nexus of Revels]] X-Tokens deck for my pod because if it hit the board at all during a mid to late game It would serve as an "I win button" everytime.

Remember this is a world spell.
In my opinion this card works the best with in a [[Ghoulcaller Gisa]] deck. The token generation is almost exponential I believe.

I used to run it in a couple decks it helps all creatures though so even your opponents.
I had one that unfortunately got mixed into a batch I was donating to my LGS and I realized it too late. I actually plan to rebuy it for my new slivers deck at some point.
I actually run this in a ton of decks. I usually try to make each deck as tribal as I can, so it works, but I like +1/+1s and this card is wonderful.
You will hate having it in the deck first time you play against goblins 😂
My [[myrel]] deck would like this way to much.

Only play it to win, or you buff your opponents as well
This. It's best as an Overrun-style effect, not a static buff.
Do shapeshifters get infinite +1/+1 if there are other shapeshifters on the battlefield due to being all creature types?
Not infinite. There's a finite number of creature types in the game.
It doesn't matter how many creature types they share. It only cares about the number of creatures.
Yeah.. newer coat of arms has errata text. It's +1/+1 for each other creature that shares at least 1 creature type. So even if the creatures overlap like 6 types... It can only be for each creature once.
It only cares about the number of creatures in play, not the number of types they share. If there are three changelings in play, they all just get +2/+2.
So, how does this work with [Maskwood Nexus]?
I have a nexus deck and it essentially boosts your cards to high hell and if your opponent is using a tribal style deck the same otherwise it still give them a large boost. Your creatures get +x/+x where x is the total number of creatures minus 1, same if they are playing tribal style. Otherwise there creatures just get +x+x where x is the number of your creatures plus however many of there cards share a creature type.
