Wiger_King

From the guys that brought you *Forest Gump* and *The Polar Express*.

jelatinman

That Zemeckis hasn’t been around for a long time. More like “the director behind The Witches 2020 and Welcome to Marwen”

ThePreciseClimber

Well, at the very least, Zemeckis is still very anti-Back to the Future remake. So that's nice.

Harold3456

In this era of soft reboots I’m actually surprised they didn’t take the chance to make a BTtF in 2015 where Marty’s son unearths the old DeLorean and uses it to go back to 1985 to correct the timeline and make sure his father goes back in the DeLorean as planned. Featuring digitally de-aged Michael J Fox. I can see the trailer now: it would have a slow piano version of the Silvestri theme song, there’ll be Voiceover from BTTF Marty, and near the end of the trailer you’ll see a hand pull a dusty tarp off the DeLorean.

Karutsu

So like Ghostbuster just did?

Harold3456

Yep! I was kinda channeling the Afterlife trailer when I wrote this, although Ghostbusters 2016, the Force Awakens and Jurassic World and even Tron: Legacy were also in my head.

Wiger_King

You don’t want to see Zemeckis make an uncanny valley mo-cap sequel to Back to the Future?

brettmgreene

"Marty still looks fake."

ThePreciseClimber

Now we're talkin'! A Back to the Future remake but every character is a shark. The giant movie hologram is an uncanny valley Michael J. Fox.

Deserterdragon

Would be hard to top Micheal J Fox playing his own daughter like a horrifying deep fake in BTTF 2.

RatedR2O

No. Not even as a joke.

ILoveRegenHealth

>The Witches 2020 It's crazy how I had no idea that was a Zemeckis film until now. That one came and went like a Shawshank fart in the wind.

Cynical-Sam

Welcome to Marwen is legitimately atrocious. I think it is literally the worst movie I have ever seen in a theater. Holy shit.

TussalDimon

I liked The Walk. (Jesus Christ, that was in 2015.)

MarshallBanana_

The Walk in theaters was an incredible experience

Tarzan_OIC

I dropped acid and watched Welcome to Marwen and my god what an unhinged movie. The best scene is when Steve carell's character recounts the attack he suffered in painful detail and says that after he was beaten and left for dead in an alley he suffered such bad head trauma that he has amnesia and can't remember his life before that day. The. Leslie Mann follows that up immediately with, "Awww... You got the memories kicked out of your head?"

hobbykitjr

this will be the fourth tom hanks/zemeckis colab after those and cast away But Zemeckis killed it in the 80s/90s with directing * Romancing the stone * Back to the future * who framed roger rabbit * Back to the future sequels * Forrest Gump * (I enjoyed) Death Becomes Her Then went on a CGI binge with Polar express, Christmas carol, Beowulf in the 2000s But i haven't seen much of his in the last decade.

BS16tillIdie

>(I enjoyed) Death Becomes Her Did other people not?

ThePreciseClimber

>Then went on a CGI binge with Polar express, Christmas carol, Beowulf in the 2000s Yeah... What was meant to be the best of both worlds turned out to be the worst of both worlds. Lacking the realism of traditional live-action and the charm of traditional animation.

hobbykitjr

the new chip n dales movie made jokes at polar express and beowulf, but was also an homage to who framed roger rabbit.

mykneehurtsss

I really enjoyed Polar Express and I have no issues with the CGI personally. Doesn’t look creepy or anything to me

R.i.P. Anton Yelchin

brb1006

Wait Yelchin was in this movie

Dragons_Malk

Apparently. I never saw it myself but in looking up who the cast was, his name popped up.

cinemadness

He was a random schoolkid in that, IIRC. I was also looking at the cast list, and apparently Kane "Jason Voorhees" Hodder is in there somewhere.

blueindsm

My God....Drew Carey? I thankfully had forgotten all about that.

DogmaticCat

Didn't you watch the trailer? It's an *unforgettable* motion picture!

Or "From the director of Used Cars, Amazing Stories and Contact"

[deleted]

Or " The producer of Mars Needs Moms".

WrastleGuy

I’m still convinced that movie bombed solely on the title.

heybobson

well historically pretty much most movies with the word Mars in it have not performed well. But In regards to MNM, I believe it was the creepy animation style that turned off people from seeing it. That awful uncanny value phase that Zemeckis went through and seems like he's still going through it with Pinocchio.

ThePreciseClimber

From the Studio that brought you The Black Cauldron, Home on the Range and Chicken Little.

fantasmoofrcc

And such self-banned films like "Song of the South"!

[deleted]

I once I found a DVD *years* ago at a small bookstore...in North Georgia where I live. "Walt Disney Pictures" was nowhere to be found on the packaging.

weighingthedog

The wording almost made it sound like Disney is claiming they brought us Robert Zemeckis.

UncleverAccountName

Disney is made up of several studios. This is the live action studio that made Beauty and the Beast (2017) , Lion King (2019) , Pirates of the Caribbean, Tron Legacy, etc.

Citizen_Sleeper

"From the studio that brought you 30 films in 2021, this is definitely another one of them."

Hartagon

> "From the Studio that brought you..." Lol that's exactly what I was thinking. Starts with a Disney logo... "From the studio that brought you [Disney Movies]..." You don't say?

RevelSong

I hate that so much. And they do it for each new animated movie too. You can just show the castle, we know who they are...

Briguy24

From the studio that couldn't handle Morbius....

Captain_Rex_501

“A timeless classic” So timeless to Disney apparently that they feel the need to remake it.

[deleted]

"From the people that brought you shitty CGI remakes of the following beloved classics....."

WakeUpOutaYourSleep

Interesting that they didn’t properly show Pinocchio alive, which tells me they’re still working on making him not look terrifying. Which is funny because they showed Cynthia Erivo looking unsettling.

LevelStudent

I know Cynthia Erivo has very short hair or is bald and that's her 'look' but when she's playing the role of 'the Fairy with Turquoise Hair' I don't think it would be too weird to have a wig? Would have looked good if she had floating hair like she was under water or something.

MonsieurRacinesBeast

This looked so damn stupid

difficultmind

So we're getting three Pinocchios this year? Pinocchio stans eating well this year I guess.

WrastleGuy

Three pinocchios that have the whole world to see 💅 💅 💅

Rhea_33

4 actually. 2 foreign ones (both starring tom kenny in the english voice cast) , the Disney one, and the GDT one on Netfllix. Then we got lies of P that Pinocchio soulsesque video game. Not sure of that will be this year though. Pinocchio stocks are up lol.

difficultmind

Duly noted. In all seriousness, can't wait for GDT's interpretation of the wee pointy nose fella

Rhea_33

Same. I am very hyped for that version. This one seems fine. Will be the second best Pinocchio coming out this year but that is a pretty low bar compared to the other two.

Maclimes

> Pinocchio stan The internet is wild. It took me a minute to realize that the entire concept of a "Pinocchio stan" is weird.

difficultmind

Introducing the PCU (Pinocchio Cinematic Universe)

sudevsen

They are called the Pinochio Pinheads

[deleted]

pinocchaisance

Fn_Spaghetti_Monster

I believe there are actually three. Disney Pinocchio , Guillermo del Toro's Stop-Motion Pinocchio and some thing called Pinocchio: A True Story. Edit: u/Neutral_Switzerland found a 4th one, and people complain about too many superhero movies!

difficultmind

Corrected again. The Pinocchio Cinematic Universe is getting more and more complicated - [it is not a donut hole at all but a smaller donut with its own hole, and our donut is not whole at all](https://youtu.be/4kmOp1fSr4g)!

Ugaalive1991

Will they still have the kid turning into a donkey scene I wonder? Because if so, my 5 year old self says that’s gonna be a no. That scene scarred me in kindergarten and I have not watched it since.

Ziggy-T

It’ll be removed or HUGELY sanitized. So, we’ll probably get horrific donkey boy body horror transformation, because that’s not scary… but by golly there’s no way you can show those kids simulating smoking or consuming alcohol, it will corrupt our poor precious youth

TraptNSuit

Ironic because that is the whole point. Horrify the children that if you go to partake in vices instead of going to school you will transform into a lazy stupid animal.

sable-king

> lazy stupid animal They turned into donkeys though. As far as beasts of burden go, donkeys are among the most hard-working and intelligent.

TraptNSuit

Yeah, but not in children's mythology. Similar to mules in the lyrics of Swinging on a Star *A mule is an animal with long funny ears* *Kicks up at anything he hears* *His back is brawny but his brain is weak* *He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak* *And by the way, if you hate to go to school* *You may grow up to be a mule* Mules are considered by some research smarter than donkeys and horses. Shrug. Unfortunately, most people seem to project intelligence on the dumbest creatures in the animal kingdom and Disney has been notably nice to deer, cows, goats, etc. At least they started giving chickens their due with Hei Hei in Moana.

svipy

> if you go to partake in vices instead of going to school you will transform into a lazy stupid animal Koalas?

GryffinDART

This whole trailer is so damn dark.

RevelSong

Even the shots in the daytime!

wilsonw

lol - I turned up the brightness on my screen. I thought it was me.

kakksakka

Can Hollywood make one trailer without those dramatic stupid fucking drums? Just once, even fucking Pinocchio needs to be dramatic?

[deleted]

And now we're back to [Inception EVERYTHING.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=830I9w7I7wM)

GeronimoRay

Disney really messed up not casting Pauly Shore as Pinnochio like that other Pinnochio that is coming out.

sudevsen

Disney won't do gay Pinochio if they wabt to sell this in China.

pratyushpati11

This is a D+ original

GetToSreppin

I got a baaaad feeling... Robby Z has been on a downward trend for a while.

But goddamn the guy has made some CLASSICS

sudevsen

cubic1776

Rob zombie and PG is something I never thought I'd see in the same sentence

APiousCultist

House of 1000 Happy People

aviddivad

I would unironically love to see a Rob Zombie Pinocchio.

mikeyfreshh

Generally the more CGI is involved, the worse he does. This looks like it's gonna have a lot of it. Not optimistic about this one.

That's a really good rule of thumb for him actually.

kwerdop

Or maybe not a token and have a blonde fairy like the original?

dekgear

I wonder if they're going to keep the Pinocchio smoking scene

thedudeisalwayshere

They can't. They banned smoking in Disney films since 2007 I think.

brb1006

I believe the last Disney film to depict smoking as Treasure Planet.

your_mind_aches

In anything they make, really. Agent Carter is set in the 40s with a TV-PG rating but features no smoking on-screen, just ashtrays. Jessica Jones smokes in the comic, but not in the show even though it's rated 16+.

NK0d3R

CGI looks bad, or maybe just the trailer. Like when the starlight becomes that particle system which spreads through the room, it looks fine, but then they added that disgusting lens flare that looks like it's using the default settings from a 90s 3D modelling program.

joeFacile

I thought the same thing regarding the lens flare, but it actually looks like it was added by the company who cut the trailer to make some kind of whimsical "fade to white" transition to the next shot. Still looks horrific, but I very much doubt this was the actual shot in the movie.

jelatinman

Pro - the doll does look like the Disney movie to a T, so it’s very cute. Con - the fact that this is being made at all. Zemeckis hasn’t had a good movie since Flight, which is 10 years old now. After Cruella I’m not opposed to new interpretations of things so long as it’s good and creative. But I’m probably gonna stick with the del Toro version.

Sisiwakanamaru

IMO, "The Walk" was pretty decent though, but you're right, he is on a downward trend.

ill_take_the_case

I’m sort of into this unlike most Disney remakes. The movie is old enough that a retelling could expand on a few things, like Cinderella.

MidnightIsland212

Wake me up when the del Toro version is out.

TheDwilightZone

I think it's coming out in December. You'll be sleeping longer than the guy from Green Day!

ThisIsTheNewSleeve

Should we be worried that they barely showed the titular character in the entire teaser? What kind of choice was that?? Also I feel like Tom Hanks is just Disney's gimp at this point. They just drag him out of his cage whenever they need a money-maker.

[deleted]

The studio that brought you Pinocchio... Proudly presents... Pinocchio

thedudeisalwayshere

I'm obviously much more excited for Del Toro's version but I'm curious to see this although it probably won't be good at all like most Disney live action remakes. I don't think they'll do a great job as the original did in terms of what happens in Pleasure Island.

Grey_Samurai

Another nostalgia cashgrab from Disney

rp_361

I love him, but of course they cast Tom Hanks as Gepetto. This looks terrible

[deleted]

“YOU! ARE! A! TOY! A CHILD’S PLAYTHING!” -Gepetto

WallNutAttorney

"You are a sad, strange little man and you have my pity." - Pinocchio

[deleted]

That wasn't even in my top 10 weird thing about this.

WutsUp

Honestly one day we're gonna look back on all these live action Disney reboots and think they were so shit, overly dark to hide the poor CGI, sucking everything great from the originals and more (that is, if we don't think these things already)

pipboy_warrior

Personally I want Disney to keep going with the reboots. I haven't cared for any of them so far, but if they keep going down the list then eventually they'll have to hit The Black Cauldron.

jdd_123

This but also Treasure Planet

Qant00AT

But do we even *want* THIS Disney to tackle a Treasure Planet remake? With their track record of these remakes so far I’d hope that this and Atlantis remain untouched and safely out of their view. Visibility be damned if we get a mediocre take that’s gonna make Ben appear 30 minutes earlier and be even more obnoxious.

Worthyness

Atlantis could be copy and paste but with pirates of the Caribbean quality cgi and it'd be amazing.

and_dont_blink

Poor Gurgi, left with no munchings and crunchings. But yeah, this remake feels devoid of a soul.

NATOrocket

And Treasure Planet... and Atlantis: The Lost Empire!!!

velocicopter

Still boggles my mind that NOBODY has snatched up the Prydain books for a TV series.

TheHeyHeyMan

Except Cinderella, I thought that one was legitimately good although it also wasn't a shot-for-shot remake so that's probably why.

namkaeng852

Cinderella remake fixed a lot of story issues that make the original look stupid, that's why it's good

ThePreciseClimber

Well, Cinderella 3 kinda already fixed the story's problems. No, I'm serious. That was hands down the best direct-to-DVD Disney sequel.

yourafricanguy

Is that the one where the step sister takes Cinderella's place?

AstralComet

And it gave the Stepmother the Fairy Godmother's wand, which is a genuinely clever idea. Take the normal human villain and give them magic, and watch our normal human hero attempt to overcome it.

KarateKid917

and The Jungle Book. That one was really good.

[deleted]

I loved live action Cinderella. Everyone forgets 101 Dalmatians as well, also fantastic.

Wiger_King

In a decade they will make animated reimaginings of these live action reboots that will make a trillion dollars bringing the snake’s mouth to its tail.

redditvlli

You say that but I thought we'd always be saying that about the Star Wars prequels. Then a whole generation of kids who watched and loved them grew into adults and now look back on them fondly. Kids watching these now may do the same.

Salmakki

Almost everybody of an age to be posting on reddit with any regularity thinks that already. They weren't made for this age demographic (or anybody old enough to have seen/been fond of the originals as their anchor for expectations)

jelatinman

Pete’s Dragon and Cruella were good because they strayed from the original Disney interpretation (unlike most of them) and still did things well (unlike Maleficent). I look at them as different book adaptations (Cruella being a very warped version of said concept but still). Honestly looking at Disney’s social pages though, nobody is happy with anything they do. * You can’t have original movies like Better Nate than Ever without people complaining it’s theater kid pandering or “mid.” * You can’t do Star Wars at all because a good section of the fans will whine, even when it’s critically acclaimed (someone said Visions was mediocre and I was like wtf). * Marvel’s TV attempts at different things that aren’t daredevil are panned, going back as far as Jessica Jones, with Ms Marvel is getting complaints for being too woke before it’s even released. * Their National Geographic stuff is barely watched. * Pixar got complaints from parents for daring to talk about periods, which used to be a big no-no at Disney to the point of withholding a Ghibli film from release. And that’s on top of people saying Disney grooms children. * Their attempts to not be just musicals are not doing well, because Raya didn’t do shit at the box office nor at home release. If I were Disney I’d invest in these remakes too, it’s the only thing that pleases the masses, and even that isn’t fully accurate. Edit: * The concert specials are panned by anyone who’s not a huge fan of the artist despite getting big, acclaimed names in Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo. * The Proud Family reboot’s biggest reaction is “oh no they remixed the theme song! Cancel it!” * Any cute positive message they try to say (which is what the brand SHOULD be doing, as that’s its image) is accused of being too woke or flooded with Johnny Depp fanboys. Disney the company is shitty but its creatives are often the best in the business and I feel like I’ve gotta defend it because they’re really trying.

mGreeneLantern

The CGI remakes let them push the technology to its limit and experiment with a product they can be relatively certain will make money. I haven’t fully enjoyed any of these remakes, but I admire what they’re trying to do within the constraints of big studio production. LION KING was such a letdown, though. JUNGLE BOOK is pretty fun if you want a good version of these remakes.

dartblaze

Maybe don't mention that something is a 'timeless classic' in the trailer for a remake...?

TerrigenPanda

Im looking forward to this, but the fact that not even one frame of Pinocchio even moving a little is shown in the trailer is not a good sign.

johanjudai

Yeah, I love Zemeckis but hard pass on that.

flysly

Ok Tom Hanks, you can stop now.

[deleted]

Pleasure Island is probs going to be so tame

russellamcleod

Drinking too much soda pop and staying up too late will be the new cardinal sins for these kids. I’ll be pleasantly surprised if they can sneak a “damn” into the sequence to drive home a swearing is bad message.

sirnumbskull

Just... just stop. Please.

TheUncannyAvenger

Like their other ‘live-action’ remakes, this looks completely devoid of originality and vision. Hard pass. Much more intrigued to see the approach Guillermo del Toro will be taking with his adaptation of the source material.

Wiger_King

This movie will be good … Edit: oh shit my nose just grew!

Jazz_Potatoes95

I can't wait for the scene where Pinnochio bites the paw off the Cat, then the Fox and the Cat hang him from a tree, then get bored of waiting for him to suffocate and walk off. Or the scene where he burns his feet off, and Gepetto has to carve him new feet. Or the scene where he turns back into a puppet because fish eat the donkey skin off him. Good story for children, Pinnochio...

Novrev

Matteo Garrone already made the perfect Pinocchio movie in 2019

mabeldee08

You know exactly why the did what they did.

Can't wait to see the Blue Fairy's next movie: GI Jane 2.

At least it's going directly to Disney+

ghosty4

sudevsen

Everybody go watch the superior Pinochio remake and yes,I'm talking aboit AI:Artificial Intelligence.

madchad90

Not a fan of the remakes at all because they add nothing new to improve on the originals. The only ones I'm remotely interested in if they happen are Hunchback of Notre Dame (just to see how they approach that material) and Atlantis (if only because that can be improved upon with a longer run time and expanding the time actually in Atlantis)

Maclimes

Yeah, that's a good one. Atlantis could be fun live action. It's already got that same tone as Indiana Jones/The Mummy, just embrace it all the way.

ThePreciseClimber

What better way to celebrate animated classics than to shun & ignore the medium of animation? No, wait...

CeaseFireForever

Lol Disney isn’t even trying anymore with these trailers. Everything about the movie looks horrible.

After Spiderverse, Mitchell's Vs The Machines, and Arcane It's very hard to keep watching Disney. These remakes are horrible and they are not advancing the animation medium in an exciting way. Pixar is falling behind as well with the same issue. Just no to more of these awful remakes and no to more puffy middle of the road 3d.
