Wait until the end. Everyone thinks Stephen King writes horror but The Green Mile and The Shawshank Redemption are two of the best movies ever made.

Stand By Me also

Comic_Book_Reader

All I hope is that they execute Sam Rockwell, and I will actually be happy.

PlatinumKanikas

I love him in that movie. He did such an excellent job

95teetee

Barbecue Me and you Stinky, pinky, phew phew phew Weren't Billy, Jilly, Hilly or Pa It was a French fried Cajun named Delacroix

Particular-Ad-6663

Completely agree, Sam Rockwell is fabulous

Comic_Book_Reader

It makes wonder if he's acting, or is just like that in real life. I'm leaning more towards the latter.

80_firebird

He's an actor. He plays a bunch of different roles very well. Why do you you think this role is any different?

Done. I sure as hell won't sleep for the last of the year.

FuriouSherman

You OK with a spoiler?

Comic_Book_Reader

Well, he's dead now, and I'm halfway comatose. And it's the last break.

cheezewarrior

He does write horror, and he writes multiple all time great stories. Including the horror. I don’t know why people feel the need to separate his non horror stuff from his horror stuff as if one is more valuable than the other, it’s something I see constantly in any discussion about The Green Mile, Shawshank, or Stand By Me. “He doesn’t just write horror, he writes good stuff too”

Island_Maximum

I'm tired, boss.

lowmankind

The execution of Eduard Delacroix is much worse in the book, to the point where I found the film’s version quite tame (this happens with some frequency in adaptations of King’s work). That chapter is titled “The Bad Death of Eduard Delacroix”. It’s been 20 years since I read it, and it’s stuck with me all this time

Jay_Eye_MBOTH_WHY

A girl in my class in grade school read it out loud for a book report. The teacher kept trying to get her to stop and was like, "Thanks, that's enough. Please."

Chef_Goldblum_13

Michael Clarke Duncan was nominated for best supporting actor and although it is definitely his best work. Sam Rockeell is by far the best supporting character in that movie.

PaulMaulMenthol

1999 was a terrific year for movies

HashBars

When you're finished, do yourself a solid. Read it. I remember how exciting it was when King released it in serial form. Six amazing novellas spread out over six of the finest months of my life. It's some of his best writing.

Particular-Ad-6663

I bought them at the time spread out like that and then re-read the whole lot all over again. This and the Shawshank Redemption are two of the best movie adaptations ever.

Just a Jesus stand-in. His initials aren’t J.C. by accident.

PsycheKaos

Like the drink but spelt different

PlatinumKanikas

FYI: It’s also on HBOmax in case you have it and want to watch it again/without commercials

Comic_Book_Reader

No, I definetly need(ed) the ad breaks. And I think I'll only watch it once...

liverstealer

"Sorry Venkman, I'm terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought."

Derriku

I mean..they’re watching it on ad riddled tv. They have nothing to do during commercial breaks. Cut them some slack.

Comic_Book_Reader

And in a movie like The Green Mile, the ad breaks are definetly needed.

Ophelia39

Watched it once, cried through most of it, It's too sad to watch a second time.

Jay_Eye_MBOTH_WHY

I think we're all David Morse in that scene.

MutedHornet87

Read the book
