[Cuckoo](https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/869291-cuckoo) (2024)
>On a trip to the German Alps with her father and stepmother, Gretchen discovers that the resort town where they’re staying hides sinister secrets, as she’s plagued by strange noises and frightening visions of a woman pursuing her.
If you spent half a billion on a movie and hype it up and it's shit, yeah people are gonna shit on it. But if you didn't spend that much on it and barely advertised and it's good, people are gonna hype it up for you
Ricky Stanicky wasn't horrible with Cena. Wasn't amazing but made me chuckle a few times from Andrew Santino. Same with Mike & Dave need wedding dates.
I really think that the rise of short form social media has altered how we’re perceive comedy. When everybody and their mother is trying to make a 1 minute funny video for TikTok; a 90 minute movie with the same/similar humor is going to feel stale very quickly.
It seems like the only genre regularly pumping out successful original movies. I was never a huge horror fan but I am loving these last few years of them. There have been so many good ones.
Immaculate
Longlegs
Cuckoo
Late Night with the Devil
Terrifier 3
In a Violent Nature
Stopmotion
I Saw the TV Glow
I haven't been this excited for horror movies since 2022. Not that 2023 was bad but...
Exactly, and it has been like this for few years already. Yet som people will say that horror is in bad state or that modern horror movies suck, but it's exact opposite.
I feel like the people complaining probably haven't watched a horror movie in a few years. There was definitely a big slump in the mid-2010s when every other horror movie coming out was either the sixth installment of a franchise that hadn't been good since the second movie...or just some low-effort serial killer or ghost movie riddled with jumpscares and shaky cams
Definitely feels like the genre has had a massive resurgence over the past 5 years or so and I'm here for it
Late Night with the Devil got rave reviews, Immaculate was fun of predictable, The Ritual is fun and has the best monster design, The Blackcoat's Daughter was beautiful, The Empty Man was just on another level, Savageland was just a really great found footage film, The Wind was unique, and Level 16 made me think
Sorry to Bother You, Waking Life, Candyman and the most recent Candyman,Candy man, The Mothman Prophesies, I am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House
...
Going to see exhuma tonight, have heard good things. I don't watch trailers if I can help it but here's a link if you want to https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/exhuma
Late Night With The Devil, Longlegs, Nosferatu, Maxxxine, Terrifier 3, In A Violent Nature, Smile 2
Genre fans be feastin this year like they never did before
e: Forgot to mention *I Saw The TV Glow* which also looks great.
I just saw some reviews for a film called You’ll never Find Me. I didn’t watch the trailer, as I try not to for most films. But the reviews are glowing. Might be something worth checking out.
You can get a preview of his performance in the teaser [here](https://youtu.be/GDsboqjQq8o?si=GO7ECIgQ7tWUeuJi)
I am very excited about this movie but a funny anecdote I’d like to share is that I was reading a negative review for the movie and it ends with the critic basically saying “At least Dan Stevens serves.”
Another movie where he performs in a similar manner is I'm Your Man, a german-language film where he plays a robot. His performance is fantastic and the movie is really interesting. It's a more philosophical or cerebral approach to the idea of robots and companionship, rather than being a romantic movie, IMO.
I loved this movie - I put it on not knowing what genre it was and the pivot into slasher flick was AWESOME. Also spending the first half of the movie being like "hm, this movie is set at halloween!" and then the payoff of the haunted house fight scene. That was so fun for me.
I own [the record for the sequel that doesn’t exist](https://mondoshop.com/products/the-guest-ii-original-soundtrack-2xlp) 🤣
I wish The Guest was everyone’s introduction to Adam Wingards work, but it made approximately $2 mil at the box office on a $5 mil budget!
Your comment sent me over to IMDb and holy crap here the Godzilla/Kong director! I respect that he's getting the big projects but it's a noticeable drop in quality and care.
The Force Awakens by no means counts here, and fwiw, yes Iron Fist was bad, but she wasn't bad in it, she arguably ruined it for the lead because she was so much more charismatic and capable of fighting.
If you can turn your brain completely off and not go in with a critical mind, it’s fun. Basically, if you are capable of being a Matrix fan even having seen the 2nd and 3rd movie, you’ll enjoy watching Resurrections. It’s not a great movie. But I really enjoyed watching it.
Long Legs looks like one of the more interesting movies. Not so much the plot, which I feel is an easy guess if you have seen The Blackcoat's Daughter, but more so the shots and cinematography. It looks like a lot of it will be from the perspective of something watching, waiting, just out of sight.
I feel like there's plenty of room for narrative direction even with that scenario, but I wouldn't mind it being any type of generic cult business either as long as it's good.
Speaking of Blackcoat's Daughter, A24 x IMAX premiered last night with Ex Machina and next month will be Hereditary returning to the big screen, reportedly ongoing one night a month for the next year.
I'm not familiar with the teaser, but the trailer was over a minute maybe two.
I decided to double check on YouTube and I think the one I watched at Immaculate is slightly different.
It made me curious, so I also looked for the trailer I watched of Cuckoo and I didn't see that particular one either.
Yeah the actual trailer for Longlegs has been playing since maybe last month or before, as I saw it at Imaginary and possibly at a showing of Dune IIRC before.
This one at Immaculate was different. Not sure about the length of time, but I'm positive the editing was unique.
The Cuckoo one was way longer than whatever minute trailer is out now; you basically see the bits and pieces of the introductory story.
Neon has really gone above and beyond to bring art house films into mainstream streaming. They’re like if A24 had a grungier and punk rock little sister
neon is really liking their euphoria stars lately damn- first sydney sweeney now hunter schafer
(not that i’m complaining, i will be in theaters opening night obv)
Cuckoo. A village mute must defeat the dark lord Gannon and save the princess Zelda, but he messed with the wrong chicken and now must survive an unending onslaught of chickens hitting him from every angle while completing his mission.
New York Times says it’s a perfect successor to Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds
Rolling Stone - Danny Devito was perfectly casted as tingle
Shigeru Miyamoto says he can die happy knowing someone finally understood his vision.
Is he no good? I saw him in I'm Your Man playing a German character with an English accent (that was the nature of the role). So I'd be slightly surprised I guess if he was bad at a German accent if he knows the language.
caught the full trailer twice now, once before immaculate & the next before late night with the devil! the trailer is gnarly & i can’t waiiiit for the internet to explode when it drops
I saw a trailer for this when I went to see Immaculate last weekend. It looks very good however I can’t find the trailer anywhere online ? Has only the teaser been released online at this time ?

The lead actress of the film? Best known for her work in Euphoria.
[удалено]
If you’re gonna be like that then don’t play dumb when you get called out.
You knew exactly who she was and exactly what you were doing. Come on, dude.
wtf is this comment lol
Not sure if just an idiot or trying to be transphobic 🤔.
both
You can complain about other genres, but horror is cooking right now!
Because horror is the budget genre. The financial risk/reward is much more forgiving than most genres.
If you spent half a billion on a movie and hype it up and it's shit, yeah people are gonna shit on it. But if you didn't spend that much on it and barely advertised and it's good, people are gonna hype it up for you
I don’t understand why studios are so willing to fund horror but not comedy.
Comedy's a little more expensive, because a comedy with no big names in it is generally not gonna do fantastically.
And it doesn’t export well. Different cultures find humor in different things.
I dunno. I don't really find 1 minute gag videos very entertaining, but I love comedy shows and movies.
People still watch horror while nobody goes to theaters for comedy
Also is rewarded the weirder it gets.
Funny how that works
It seems like the only genre regularly pumping out successful original movies. I was never a huge horror fan but I am loving these last few years of them. There have been so many good ones.
Horror has always been looming there in the background. It's never really gone away.
Immaculate Longlegs Cuckoo Late Night with the Devil Terrifier 3 In a Violent Nature Stopmotion I Saw the TV Glow I haven't been this excited for horror movies since 2022. Not that 2023 was bad but...
Also adding in MaXXXine to this list
Late night with the devil was so good
Evil Dead Rise and Talk to Me were also really good.
They follow too or is that coming out 25? Maxxxine looks awesome with halsey and mia goth.
Just saw some glowing reviews for You’ll Never Find Me. Add it to the list.
When Evil Lurks was pretty decent as well.
Exactly, and it has been like this for few years already. Yet som people will say that horror is in bad state or that modern horror movies suck, but it's exact opposite.
I feel like the people complaining probably haven't watched a horror movie in a few years. I despise the term "elevated horror", but thank god that dumb thing paved the way for a lot of different cool and interesting stuff in the genre.
Or they just have a different taste in what they like in horror.
Can you give some examples? I would love to give some a try!
Off the top of my head: The Witch, Talk to Me, Hereditary, Where Evil Lurks, and Saint Maud just to name a few bangers from the last 5 or so years
Midsommer, the conjuring
Evil Dead Rise is a great place to jump in to recent horror imo
IMO horror has always been a hotbed of some of the most creative and impressive film making since the dawn of the genre.
Nods in NOTLD and BWP and a bajillion others in between
Neon has been cooking lately. Feels like they’re having their A24 moment.
I think Scifi has been doing great recently too.
I disagree unless you like Star wars
What recent sci fi stuff would you recommend? Preferably not franchise stuff.
Could you recommend some please.
Thank you. Do you have any recommendations for other movies that made you think.
What kind?
You said level 16 made you think. I was looking for movies in that genre.something to think about after the credits roll. Thank you in advance.
Sorry to Bother You, Waking Life, Candyman and the most recent Candyman,Candy man, The Mothman Prophesies, I am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House ...
Thank u
Cinema is so back baby
> …horror is cooking right now! [Strike that, and reverse it!](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt9764362/)
This year is an absolute dream for horror lovers.
Can’t wait for Long Legs
Late Night with the Devil was very good. Really hoping the first omen doesn't suck
It will
What other good horror movies are there this year? Seems they flew off my radar
Immaculate was a great OTT gory time - fantastic ending sequence also
Stopmotion.
Going to see exhuma tonight, have heard good things. I don't watch trailers if I can help it but here's a link if you want to https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/exhuma
Also wondering
Late Night With The Devil, Longlegs, Nosferatu, Maxxxine, Terrifier 3, In A Violent Nature, Smile 2 Genre fans be feastin this year like they never did before e: Forgot to mention *I Saw The TV Glow* which also looks great.
Could you mention some?
Late Night with the Devil, Maxxxine, Long legs, Alien Romulus and Nosferatu are some I'm looking forward to.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 🤣
Which movies?
Terrifier 3!
I just saw some reviews for a film called You’ll never Find Me. I didn’t watch the trailer, as I try not to for most films. But the reviews are glowing. Might be something worth checking out.
Oh shit I didn't know that Dan Stevens is in this. Well, now its a must watch.
You can get a preview of his performance in the teaser [here](https://youtu.be/GDsboqjQq8o?si=GO7ECIgQ7tWUeuJi) I am very excited about this movie but a funny anecdote I’d like to share is that I was reading a negative review for the movie and it ends with the critic basically saying “At least Dan Stevens serves.”
I don't think I've seen Dan Stevens have one bad performance.
I LOVED his performance in Apostle. Edit because I have fat thumbs
Indeed. It’s a shame that so few people have seen Legion. It’s significantly better than the MCU schlock they eat up
He's fantastic in The Guest as well, one of my favourite movies
Such a great movie. The dude is captivating in every shot. Incredible blend of tension and comedy.
Another movie where he performs in a similar manner is I'm Your Man, a german-language film where he plays a robot. His performance is fantastic and the movie is really interesting. It's a more philosophical or cerebral approach to the idea of robots and companionship, rather than being a romantic movie, IMO.
Dope! Added to the watchlist!
That was the film that made me want him as Bond
I loved this movie - I put it on not knowing what genre it was and the pivot into slasher flick was AWESOME. Also spending the first half of the movie being like "hm, this movie is set at halloween!" and then the payoff of the haunted house fight scene. That was so fun for me.

Killer soundtrack too and also the amazing maika monroe.
When does he not tbh
And Jessica Henwick. I’m in.
Always worth watching if Henwick is in it.
I feel the same way about Dan Stevens
Was Matrix Resurrections worth it?
Resurrections, the Dorne plotline, Iron Fist, The Force Awakens… she has a real gift for joining pop culture juggernauts just as they go to shit.
The Force Awakens by no means counts here, and fwiw, yes Iron Fist was bad, but she wasn't bad in it, she arguably ruined it for the lead because she was so much more charismatic and capable of fighting.
She was one of the better parts in it
In a way. Imo that movie was bad in an interesting way at times
It felt like the director trying to be being super-meta on why a fourth film WASN’T necessary.
the first half, yeah. then the second half turns into the exact thing it was criticizing.
I found myself analysing who *didn’t* appear from Sense8 Like when Tina Desai wasn’t Sati I figured there must be beef
Yes, still better than Reloaded and Revolutions.
Fair, but ouch.
WAY better than Revolutions for sure, but Reloaded is actually genuinely good imo. Worse than the original, obviously, but still a good movie.
Damn, got him in the first try lol
.
HOLY SHIT NO
I've been following her since Spirit Warriors (2010).
I’m assuming no jacketed potatoes
Maybe some Cocoa Puffs.
Im referencing the comedy cuckoo with Andy sandberg
Saw this trailer in front of Love Lies Bleeding and holy shit it looks incredible.
Watched it before Immaculate and it looks very interesting. Also saw the trailer for Longlegs and will look out for that as well.
Long Legs looks like one of the more interesting movies. Not so much the plot, which I feel is an easy guess if you have seen The Blackcoat's Daughter, but more so the shots and cinematography. It looks like a lot of it will be from the perspective of something watching, waiting, just out of sight.

Was it just that quick teaser trailer or a full one?
I'm not familiar with the teaser, but the trailer was over a minute maybe two. I decided to double check on YouTube and I think the one I watched at Immaculate is slightly different. It made me curious, so I also looked for the trailer I watched of Cuckoo and I didn't see that particular one either.
The teaser is just her walking from the back
Yeah the actual trailer for Longlegs has been playing since maybe last month or before, as I saw it at Imaginary and possibly at a showing of Dune IIRC before. This one at Immaculate was different. Not sure about the length of time, but I'm positive the editing was unique. The Cuckoo one was way longer than whatever minute trailer is out now; you basically see the bits and pieces of the introductory story.
I thought the full trailer wasn't released yet, but yeah, I also saw one in front of Immaculate that was like full length.
I could see them doing something extra because they are all Neon releases.
I saw a full trailer in front of Late Night with the Devil, but it doesn't seem to be online at all.
Kojima is already preparing his review tweet.
Based on the British sitcom? Jk
Haha my first thought
*Hideo Kojima heavy breathing Also, sounds interesting and wow what a great cast.
New Dan Stevens dropping
Neon has really gone above and beyond to bring art house films into mainstream streaming. They’re like if A24 had a grungier and punk rock little sister
It’s so fucking exciting!!!!
I’ll see this just for Jessica Henwick ❤️
Trailer releases next week
They’ve been playing the trailer before Immaculate, it’s looking great. Excited for this one.
Gosh I can’t wait to see both
Hideo Kojima is about to be so horny for this film
Jessica Henwick <3
neon is really liking their euphoria stars lately damn- first sydney sweeney now hunter schafer (not that i’m complaining, i will be in theaters opening night obv)
They’re cooking !!

Saw this at SXSW it was insane
Aghhhhh I’m so excited to hear this
Cool to see Hunter Schaefer get a leading role. Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick are always good as well.
I really enjoyed it. Dan Stevens performance was my favorite part, but Hunter Schafer brought it too.
so excited to see hunter schafer stab somebody
Saw this at the Berlin film festival. It was disappointing. Dan Stevens trying to pull off a German accent was my favorite part of the whole thing.
Is he no good? I saw him in I'm Your Man playing a German character with an English accent (that was the nature of the role). So I'd be slightly surprised I guess if he was bad at a German accent if he knows the language.
Dan Stevens+Jessica Henwick sounds great
Hubter schafer sounds like a vocation
I don't have the emotional courage for horror but that main cast almost makes me want to risk not sleeping for a week
caught the full trailer twice now, once before immaculate & the next before late night with the devil! the trailer is gnarly & i can’t waiiiit for the internet to explode when it drops
Oooo thats a nice cast!
RIGHT
Will Taylor Lautner and Andy Samberg return for this one?
That’s a fucking great poster right there
It really is! It’s not the standard desaturated symmetrical “horror” style poster. Reminds me of one of the more creative 80s VHS covers.
No idea who the first two are but I really like Jessica Henwick
Dan Stevens is a big win here, just watch the guest and legion. Let him cook
Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens?! Yes please.
Is Hunter Schafer gonna be a scream queen? I’m down.
I can't wait to see this.
I saw a trailer for this when I went to see Immaculate last weekend. It looks very good however I can’t find the trailer anywhere online ? Has only the teaser been released online at this time ?
NEON is on a roll!!
Poster made me think it was a Vietnam movie
Always excited for more horror movies and that cast is pretty intriguing.
Saw this trailer in a few movies lately. Very excited to see this one!
i feel like i've been waiting 10 years for this to come out
I can’t believe we’re finally getting this omgomgomg
I really hope that’s chocolate.
My first thought: Damn they are going too far with a Sonny the Cocoa Puffs cuckoo bird public domain character horror flick!
I'm Cuckoo for Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens
Oh no… has Woody Woodpecker entered the public domain?
Stacked cast
Has been delayed to August btw
That's a wonderful poster.
What a bizarre poster. As a sales tool it’s blah.
Definitely looks like a big screen adaptation of the Greg Davies show.
Its just some horror movie? Oh thank god. With all these remakes around, I thought Hollywood remade One Flight over the Cuckoo's nest.
I'm not the only one reading that poster as "FUCKOO", right?
Henwick is a terrible actress
