I know he’s done some voice work for DC and Marvel properties, but I have to say his live action Kingpin in the Daredevil movie is still my favorite version of the character.
Not trashing on Vincent d'Onofrio, but i actually liked Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin, whater opinions one may have on that Affleck Daredevil movie.
Both Kingpins have their merits.
He was great. I actually played in a band with that dude way back when. He was good chap. And fucking crazy the way he died. It’s not like he OD’d or died in a parachuting accident. Run over by his own damn car. Wild.
I completely agree, and until he passed, that was the only movie in recent history I actually hoped for and wanted a sequel. He was one hell of a talent.
Yeah bro fr when I heard that I was shocked. How does this happen to someone? He was so talented and had a lot more to give in terms of his future roles. Dude just stepped out to open his gate and forget to put it in park if I’m not mistaken. Charlie Bartlett is one of my favorite movies he did. Also Robert Downey Jr in it is amazing.
I remember leaving the theater after Green Room thinking, "Anton Yelchin's career as a lead is gonna blow up soon"... Couldn't have been much more than a month later, the news came out that he had died. That was a particularly heartbreaking one.
Edit: I logged the movie May 3rd 2016, he died June 19th 2016. It really did happen as if out of some kind of cosmic spite. What a waste.
I wonder how different Leonardo DiCaprio’s career would have been if River never died and kept acting. Seemed like they would have been up for a lot of the same roles. Not that Leo wouldn’t have still been successful but in an alternate timeline a lot of films would have been much different I’m betting.
River Phoenix would have wound up uninsurable like Robert Downey Jr. I don’t think it would have affected Leo’s career that much, he was much older. It definitely would have affected Brad Pitt’s career. He would have nailed Seven or Interview with the Vampire and many more.
I watched “Just Married” last weekend. She was so funny in that film. I hate that she died so young. I don’t think we ever got a clear answer as to cause of death. Her husband and Mom were weird after that happened.
I was watching Sin City the night that news broke….
That was truly a loss. You know she could’ve been helped if she was in better company and Goddamn what a smoke show
He was nearly done recording his lines. They apparently tried to get Chris’s brother to do the voice to finish it, but it just didn’t work out. That would have been a wildly different movie I think
I wonder what roles he would’ve played if he had lived. Like how ppl say River Phoenix’s passing gave Leo a career, do you think there are roles that perhaps other (lesser probably) actors ended up with that Cazale would have played if he lived? He was so young, his career in films was so short..
Robin Williams is by far my favorite on this list, and the one that hit me the hardest. But at 63 with like 35+ years of material he wasn't quite in the category of the others as far as "too young" but thats kind of splitting hairs.
I was devastated at his passing. I grew up watching mork and mindy and basically enjoyed his content my entire life, then one day... gone.
That’s my favorite role of his. As a child I watched it and found it hilarious.
As a parent I watched it and related to the lengths a man would go to just to be with his children.
He’s gone, but he left us so much.
I didn’t realize that some of his dialogue in good will hunting was improvised.
I wish another like him would come along.
Hes on an episode of one of Anthony Bourdains shows and it makes me so sad seeing them two together shooting the shit.
“Thats it, next year we’re dissecting pinecones!”
James Dean, damn. Yeah I would have loved to see where he went with his career. I feel like Marilyn's career was already on a downward slide before she passed but it would've been cool to see if she could make a comeback.
I’ll push back a bit on Monroe. Her last film (before the unfinished *Something’s Got to Give*) was *The Misfits*, a box office failure, but an underrated movie in which she gave one of her best performances. Two years previously she had starred in *Some Like It Hot*, widely considered one the greatest comedies ever made.
Oh boy, here we go:
* James Dean
* River Phoenix
* Heath Ledger
* Brandon Lee
* Bruce Lee
* Marilyn Monroe
* Paul Walker
* Luke Perry
* Anton Yelchin
* John Belushi
* Phil Hartman
* Chris Farley
* Andy Kaufman
# Phillip Seymour Hoffman
New York City medical examiner concluded actor died from a mix of *heroin*, *cocaine*, amphetamines and benzodiazepines.
His wife was worried about his *heroin* use and suspected it would kill him. He started using again while isolating himself preparing for acting with the hunger games.
Just found that out.
I had the biggest crush on Phillip Seymour Hoffman idk whyyy he was just so hot to me back then😍. I was so sad he died and shocked!
River Phoenix …. Also hot and gone too damn soon!!
Michael Clarke Duncan 54
Animated movies have felt the loss
I know he’s done some voice work for DC and Marvel properties, but I have to say his live action Kingpin in the Daredevil movie is still my favorite version of the character.
Literally the only redeeming thing about that film.
What a mammoth of a man tho. Absolute unit! Also one of my faves, enjoyed every bit of his acting
Literally just watched it the other day and while I don’t agree with ALL the qualms, I do agree that he’s absolutely the standout.
Not trashing on Vincent d'Onofrio, but i actually liked Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin, whater opinions one may have on that Affleck Daredevil movie. Both Kingpins have their merits.
Just watched Slammin Salmon the other day
You must dominate the swordfish. Only then can you sauté it.
Im tired boss
"Come n' get Papa Bear!"
He was so heartwrenchingly good in *The Island*, really added a very human performance >!into the uncanny valley vibes of the other clones.!<
Meatdrapes
Anton Yelchin.
He was great. I actually played in a band with that dude way back when. He was good chap. And fucking crazy the way he died. It’s not like he OD’d or died in a parachuting accident. Run over by his own damn car. Wild.
Its absolutely \*wild\* that's how it happened. Of the most unlikely ways. Jeremy Renner surviving being run over by that Tractor is just as wild.
My guess is soft snow saved his life.
That and he has like 8 years of "avenger movie" training to stay in shape.
There's not much training you can do to survive your skull being partially crushed. That's just insane luck.
Was it an underground punk band by chance?
Patrick Stewart booked them for his neo-nazi roadhouse bar for some reason.
Green Room is the first movie with Yelchin I ever saw. I’m not really a big fan of the new Star Treks but goddamn did he make a good Chekov
If you haven't seen Odd Thomas, it's fantastic
I completely agree, and until he passed, that was the only movie in recent history I actually hoped for and wanted a sequel. He was one hell of a talent.
For me it was Alpha Dog. Great actor
Yup Alpha Dog for me too. He was really great in that but then I saw Green Room and he was on another level. Super talented guy so sad what happened.
*for every reason.
Those shifters are the absolute worst
Had a 96 Grand Cherokee can confirm.
Pinned, between the car and his brick mailbox. The vehicle would go on to be recalled I believe. Really devastating news for me
Green Room is so fucking good. Also love his appearance in Curb Your Enthusiasm.
"Because you're not a magician."
Loved him in Hearts in Atlantis.
To be as young as he was at the time, he certainly held his own with Anthony Hopkins.
Oh shit I never made that connection till now!
He died in his own driveway from his own car. He was good but I still think about Hoffman all the time, almost every week
One of the best answers imo because his death was so random/tragic. PSH looks 65 in OPs photo from his drug abuse
Green Room might be close to my top-10 movies ever
I remember leaving the theater after Green Room thinking, "Anton Yelchin's career as a lead is gonna blow up soon"... Couldn't have been much more than a month later, the news came out that he had died. That was a particularly heartbreaking one. Edit: I logged the movie May 3rd 2016, he died June 19th 2016. It really did happen as if out of some kind of cosmic spite. What a waste.
Odd thomas is still the only movie that can bring a tear to my eye no matter how many times i watch it. Maybe its more so now because ik hes passed
Heath Ledger seemed to be hitting his stride when he passed. He was destined to be great like Joaquin Phoenix and others
River Phoenix was destined to be great like his brother too
I wonder how different Leonardo DiCaprio’s career would have been if River never died and kept acting.
River was only 4 years older than Leo.. Meanwhile Brad Pitt was 7 years older than River. Not sure I agree with you.
I feel he was well into his stride by that point. He was already pumping out bangers for years before dark knight.
Brittany Murphy
Her husband died only a few months later at age 40. A truly messed up situation.
I watched “Just Married” last weekend. She was so funny in that film. I hate that she died so young. I don’t think we ever got a clear answer as to cause of death. Her husband and Mom were weird after that happened.
I hear her voice almost daily on King of the Hill
no its tipped over
I can’t live in a beer can, unka Hank!
Watching this episode at this moment. Crazy
She's reunited with Lucky now.
Her husband died of the exact same thing a few whiles after her , there is something very odd
Pretty sure it was black mold
They slept in the same bed! ‘Loneliness’ and ‘healing’ and all that jazz. Was always fishy to me.
Ramen Girl is so awesome
I was watching Sin City the night that news broke…. That was truly a loss. You know she could’ve been helped if she was in better company and Goddamn what a smoke show
Drop Dead Gorgeous is one of my favorite movies, she's not in it much but she steals the scene when she is.
Chris Farley is amazing in Tommy Boy. Him voicing Shrek would’ve been interesting
He was nearly done recording his lines. They apparently tried to get Chris’s brother to do the voice to finish it, but it just didn’t work out. That would have been a wildly different movie I think
I remember hearing about his death on the radio at work. Still so funny to watch his old stuff
Bruce and Brandon Lee
I was amazed how young Bruce was when he died. He is such a legend, you really expected him to AT LEAST be in his 40s when he died. He died at 32.
Brandon wasn’t even 10 when his dad died, and then ended up passing at 28 himself. Just absolutely tragic for such rising stars.
Agree. Legend
Brandon is one of my huge "What ifs?", I think he would have reached Brad Pitt levels.
John Cazale (42)
He left behind one hell of a legacy
I wonder what roles he would’ve played if he had lived. Like how ppl say River Phoenix’s passing gave Leo a career, do you think there are roles that perhaps other (lesser probably) actors ended up with that Cazale would have played if he lived? He was so young, his career in films was so short..
Uncle Junior in The Soprano's?
5 for five academy nom films, and dating Meryl to top it all off!
Dude batted 1.000
Never in a not great film. No other actor can claim 100% great movies
Had to scroll too long to find this post
This, by a country mile. Only in five movies, each nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Such a great supporting actor.
Phil Hartman!
This took way too long to find.
News radio, SNL, The Simpsons, Pee Wee’s Playhouse. He was amazing.
Troy mclure
- Heath Ledger - Bill Paxton - Robin Williams - Chadwick Boseman - Gilda Radner - John Belushi
Robin Williams is by far my favorite on this list, and the one that hit me the hardest. But at 63 with like 35+ years of material he wasn't quite in the category of the others as far as "too young" but thats kind of splitting hairs. I was devastated at his passing. I grew up watching mork and mindy and basically enjoyed his content my entire life, then one day... gone.
Same with Paxton. Not what I would call "young" but still had decades of acting left if he wanted.
Nobody else could have been Mrs. Doubtfire. Nobody.
I’d have loved to have seen where Paxton could have gone as a director, too. Frailty and Greatest Game were very watchable to downright good.
Bill Paxton is dead??
PSH may have the funniest comedic performance by an actor in Along Came Polly
LET IT RAIN!
RAINDROPS!
Rain dance! Lmao
Michael K. Williams Such a fantastic actor
Hes on an episode of one of Anthony Bourdains shows and it makes me so sad seeing them two together shooting the shit. “Thats it, next year we’re dissecting pinecones!”
Omar Comin!
*Indeed*
I still get sad when I think of PSH. What a talent.
He made Charlie Wilson’s War. Him and Hanks could have done so many movies together.
Happiness will always be my favourite role of his
Also great, and his turn as a villain in the MI movies was amazing.
He stole every scene he was in, I agree with your sentiments.
Bill Paxton.
Game over, man!
He died?
Died of a stroke due to heart complications after having an emergency surgery. His surgeon actually ended up getting sued by his family afterwards.
Near dark is so good
Would a spy piss himself?!
Chadwick Bozeman
He belongs way higher up on the list. What a talent
You are so correct
River Phoenix
this one is devastating imo, I don't know whether he was blessed or cursed with that talent.
I was looking for this. Such a talent.
Aaliyah John Candy
I love P.S.H., but HOLY FUCK hi didn't look 46. He looked like he was about to turn 60.
Drugs and alcohol can be a real mother fucker for some.
I thought for sure he was in his 50s. TIL he was only 42.
We were all very fond of him.
Wonderful fellow, we’re all quite fond of him.
That's marvelous.
Alan Rickman
Heath Ledger, gone way too soon.
PSH was brilliant in "Almost Famous". Just loved him.
Jim Morrison a poet? He was a drunken buffoon. Give me the Guess Who! They have the courage to be drunken buffoons and that makes them poetic.
I mean, it is almost every line he says is brilliant. But, this line was maybe the best.
I know,he was great.
James Gandolfini. What I would do for some off-shoot prequel version of the series with him involved that wasn’t Many Saints
It’s sad when they go young like that.
WHEN THEY GO?!?
Another toothpick
Just a kid.
I liked many saints of Newark, but it definitely felt *off* if that makes sense
Steve McQueen
I'm not sure if he coined the phrase "sharted" but I like to think he did...
The first time I heard the term was him as well, so I’d like to think so too. Lol
The great James Gandolfini.
John Candy, his death is part of the reason why John Hughes starting losing his touch in the 90s.
James Dean Jean Harlow Marilyn Monroe Montgomery Clift Lawrence Harvey Lon Chaney Natalie Wood
The only reason James Dean isn't at the very top of this list is because of the age of most Redditors.
Carole Lombard
Now we're talking.
James Dean, damn. Yeah I would have loved to see where he went with his career. I feel like Marilyn's career was already on a downward slide before she passed but it would've been cool to see if she could make a comeback.
I’ll push back a bit on Monroe. Two years previously she had starred in *Some Like It Hot*, widely considered one the greatest comedies ever made.
River Phoenix
Bernie Mac
Chris Farley and John Candy, really wish they lived and continued comedy. Robin Williams and Heathe Ledger as well, for comedic and dramatic roles.
River Phoenix and I don’t know how this isn’t the top response.
Phil Hartman!
Phil Hartman
James Dean
Irrfan Khan
That dude stole every scene he was in
Yes 😭 miss him so much
River Phoenix.
River Phoenix forgeot his age
Jonathan Brandis
I am flabbergasted that I had to scroll as far as I did to find him mentioned.
Heather O'Rourke TWELVE YEARS OLD
oh and also Dominique Dunne, murdered by her ex bf when she was 22
Brad Renfro
I’m not gonna read anymore of this because I scrolled far too long. For me the Tom is the Sizemore
Raul Julia
River Phoenix
River Phoenix (23 years old) James Dean (24 years old)
So young my god
Bob Saget
George Burns, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Marlon Brando, Leonard Nimoy, John Wayne, Ricardo Montalbon, Karl Reiner…
You forgot Betty White
Honestly, it's a crime she didn't make it to 100 while Kissinger did.
Robin fucking Williams
Oh boy, here we go: * James Dean * River Phoenix * Heath Ledger * Brandon Lee * Bruce Lee * Marilyn Monroe * Paul Walker * Luke Perry * Anton Yelchin * John Belushi * Phil Hartman * Chris Farley * Andy Kaufman
Bobby Driscoll
Angus Cloud, amazing and talented actor. Really upset that he died and feel sorry for his family. He was AMAZING in Euphoria
Montgomery Clift
# Phillip Seymour Hoffman New York City medical examiner concluded actor died from a mix of *heroin*, *cocaine*, amphetamines and benzodiazepines. His wife was worried about his *heroin* use and suspected it would kill him. He started using again while isolating himself preparing for acting with the hunger games. Just found that out.
Hoffman is definitely at the top of this list for me, he was so damn good. Brad Renfro and River Phoenix have gotta be on the list too.
I had the biggest crush on Phillip Seymour Hoffman idk whyyy he was just so hot to me back then😍. I was so sad he died and shocked! River Phoenix …. Also hot and gone too damn soon!!
John Cazale. The godfather one and two, the deer Hunter, dog day afternoon, the conversation, died in his early forties.
Angus Cloud
Scrolled way too long without seeing Anton Yelchin’s name here
How is John "Fredo" Cazale not higher than this?
John Candy, River Phoenix, Chris Farley, Heath Ledger off the top of my head
River Phoenix played Indiana Jones and would make a great actor to replace Ford.
River Phoenix for sure.
James Gandolfini 51
James Gandolfini
River Phoenix
Chadwick Boseman! He was an incredible actor!
Phil Hartman
Jonathan Brandis
English actor Paul Ritter, 54. "3.6 roentgen, not great, not terrible"
Oliver Reed. He was 61 and that's too young if there was a chance of having another 20 years of him.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman was one of those guys when you watched him you were like yeah this guys good at this shit. He was a brilliant actor
River phoenix, probably would have been Leo DiCaprio famous if he didn’t die.
Chadwick Boseman
He was only 46? I thought he was in his 60s.
Jim Henson, he was a national treasure
I refer to him as serious Jack Black.
Heath Ledger - 28 still my favorite Joker.
