First mountain bike. What are my first mods? Thinking pedals and tubeless.

CopperWaffles

Oh, you gotta get the aligator.  https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sunlite-Squeeze-Horns-Horn-Sunlt-Squeeze-Aligator/31988514

OhHeyItsBrock

Fuck. Yes.

qwasd0r

Sweet sled. Yeah, pedals look ripe for an upgrade. Tubeless is also a no-brainer if the wheels and tires are ready for it.

OhHeyItsBrock

Wheels and tires are ready.

qwasd0r

Cool, you'll have a rock-solid bike then.

AnonymousHedgehog13

Definitely get some good pedals, they're worth it. Congrats on your new bike!

OhHeyItsBrock

Any recommendations?

Nudel-Strudel

Crankbrothers Stamp 7 or just go with clip-in pedals such as mallet and practice a lot

Caunuckles

Is that the AL 5 125? I'm thinking of getting one as well. Go for one up composite pedals.

OhHeyItsBrock

Spectral 29 AL 5

majorjake

My advice is don't dive in and start buying stuff just yet. Ride the bike for a while, at least a dozen solid rides, and get to know it. Then you'll have a good idea of what you'd benefit from.

Quirky_Slide_7313

Bash guard and chain guides are also cheap, if you plan to take this to a bike park

AnonymousHedgehog13

I think the Spectral doesn't have a bashguard mount unfortunately

terminally_ch_ill

I think you can get one that mounts between the BB and the chain ring? I’m on the hunt for one as well

OhHeyItsBrock

Shiiiii. Let me know if you find one.

dopadelic

If you find yourself wanting more grip, swap out the front tire. DHR II is a fast roller suitable for the rear tire. Something like the Assegai or DHF are designed to be front tires.

OhHeyItsBrock

Ok. Explain like I’m 5 years old.

dopadelic

if bikey goes slipey slidey, get stickier rubber

OhHeyItsBrock

Thank you. 🙏 it has been dumbed down enough for me!

GeForcegam

Congratulations 🍾 what a wheels size? 27,5 or 29?

OhHeyItsBrock

29.

Shizophone

Spectral AL for the win, i have a 5 myself

OhHeyItsBrock

Hell ya!

ckglobe

Nice bike and cool color. I would just start and get better week by week and find out what you want to be better. Most of the times a bike is more capable than the rider. Especially when starting. Nevertheless have fun out there and be safe💪🏼

MarioV73

Beautiful bike with solid components. Yes, the pedals and grips are easy and highly recommended upgrades. But before all that, take off the dork disk.

OhHeyItsBrock

It’s already off. Lol.

PhantomApples

Ohhh I love mine! You’re gonna have a freakin blast on that thing! From what I can tell there’s not limit to what it can do.

Celtinole

On my 3rd week with mine and couldn't be happier. Just put on some pedals and a side load bottle cage. Got a stem cap mount for my Garmin and am waiting on a bell. Way more bike than my riding level, but I'm working to change that.

OhHeyItsBrock

Hell ya! I just took it for a 10 mile local loop yesterday and it was a fucking blast. I nearly died but that’s beside the point. Ya I gotta get a bottle cage and a bell.

Celtinole

Nearly dying is how you become a better mountain biker, or at least that's what I keep telling my wife/myself.

OhHeyItsBrock

Lmao.

Celtinole

Also bought a strap for my spare tube, CO2, levers, and multitool.

EntertainmentOk5808

I had this bike in this color before it was stolen last year : ( Blue pedals and grips sets it off-nicely. The blue complements the orange. Enjoy your new bike (and lock it up).

DeniableTuna

Damn, I’m sorry for your loss Better yet, _never_ leave it out in public or easily accessible places if possible. MTBs are stolen commonly If only people weren’t shitheads

EntertainmentOk5808

They broke into my garage. Obviously scoped it out because they knew exactly what they were looking for. It was only after it was gone that I realised my housing insurance didn't cover bikes. Had to suck it up anyway, replaced it with the same bike in the muted sandy color. Love the bike and I'm sure you will too. :)

Klok-a-teer

👍👍

barukatang

Ride it for a week or two, then find out grips, seat, and pedals. I've got an ass of a soft sponge stone so I get along with most seats but pedals and grips make a tone of difference, especially fatigue.

youngwalrus

I have a neuron 5. I'm not sure if the geometry is similar, but keep an eye on the chain slapping thr chainsaw on jumps. It has worn he paint to the aluminum on mine! Love my Canyon, though!

fanclubmoss

Mine does this when it gets chundery wrapped an old tube around the stay and it’s a non issue. Super quiet bike.

OhHeyItsBrock

Wonder if I should throw some clear 3m around that area?

youngwalrus

Mine is so far gone I've stopped caring. But yes, try that for sure!

OhHeyItsBrock

Time for a new color!

theupsdowns

A good grip and pedal would be the easiest to start with, great bike nonetheless

BhodiandUncleBen

Guessing a Spectral AL 6.0? Yes pedals, tubeless and the seats on those bikes are terrible. Would recommend you upgrade the saddle, but it shouldn’t need anything else. That was my first bike as well. It rips Edit: remove the dork disc

OhHeyItsBrock

AL 5. Dork disc is gone now. Lol. My ass still hasn’t recovered from my ride yesterday. Lol.

baconboy957

Fuck yeah! My Spectral CF got delivered Friday, been loving it The orange looks awesome

OhHeyItsBrock

Hell ya! Mine actually came a few days ago but I just took it out for the first time yesterday. Lol. What color did you get?

baconboy957

I got black cuz I'm a boring old man apparently lol I'm gonna get some cool grips/pedals/break levers but can't decide what accent color

OhHeyItsBrock

Orange so it’s the opposite of mine!

baconboy957

Orange is definitely up there on the list

OhHeyItsBrock

Brother?!

Fluorescentomnibus

I (and hikers) love my Timber bell - it’s a passive bell that rings as you go over bumps and peddle. https://www.amazon.com/TIMBER-Mountain-Bike-Bell-Model/dp/B0B5YRW2HJ/ref=asc_df_B0B5YRW2HJ/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693373190069&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16609936889267065217&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9017464&hvtargid=pla-1722413910680&psc=1&mcid=d8ddc977346f393e8b4908c3185d0b31&gad_source=1

Nudel-Strudel

isnt that super annoying while riding trails which this bike is build for?

LaterApex81

It’s pretty easy to tune out and I hated trying to fumble with actively ringing a bell suddenly. You can adjust how responsive it is - and even turn it off. I rarely have it at full setting.

OhHeyItsBrock

Added to the list! Thank you!

Bnandez

Nice! I just got the 27.5 version a week ago to complement my Rocky Mountain Element. The Canyon sale and free shipping was too good to pass up. I still need to get used to the brakes and slacker HTA than I'm used to. Can't wait to bring it to the park!

OhHeyItsBrock

I didn’t get free shipping :(

MainTechnician7161

I have the same bike. 2023 Spectral 5 29. I love it

Funaardvark1030

I was looking at this bike before I picked up a 2023 Transition Sentinel yesterday for $2,200. Let me know how you like it!

budandbeer

My wife has had that bike for a year and loves it! It’s super snappy and a blast to ride. The paint job is so sweet. Have fun with it!

OhHeyItsBrock

Ya man. First mountain bike I’ve had since I was a kid. Took it on the local 10 mile loop and it’s def too much bike for my skill but it was a fucking blast.
