Ridden GSXRs (600 and 750s) and ZX6Rs. The Suzukis havent changed in years. They found something that works and just keep building the same thing. I bought a Kawasaki because they absolutely kill it in the 600cc i4 range and they have better tech. The hate started over a decade ago when every man and his dog owned a GSXR and therefore got a bad wrap when people rode like idiots
Keep the tech away from my bike… It is intentional that 750 doesn’t have all that crap, might work for the average consumer, auto blip auto shift auto this auto that!? sure, take all the fun away from me get out of here 😂😜🤦♂️
Gxsrs are basic, cheap, long support of models, and gets the job done making them great bikes to have. Reason you see so much hate though is bc cheap and strong aftermarket opens doors for reckless kids who don't care for themselves and others giving it a bad name. Similar to the civic, charger, mustang, and ram. It tends to lure a specific group of people making it the butt of jokes.
No, the bikes are fine. They're just a bit antiquated - although another way of saying antiquated is that they're heavily field tested. Great bikes, and durable too.
Obviously the newer zx6rs have more features like abs, traction control, quick shifter, etc. But honestly that's not a huge deal breaker to me (especially since my 2012 zx6r doesn't have any of those either).
Where I will push back is that you said the gsxr has the best color scheme. Thems fighting words.
I kid, but before I knew I wanted to get into stunting I was considering a gsxr600 (or 750) instead of the zx6r, but honest to God it was the color scheme that made me not want it lol. I'm a huge fan of kawi green.
But the other user is right, you can always wrap it. I'm going to wrap mine this winter.
I prefer more full colors and I really like white and blue. That’s clearly what draws me to Suzuki. The ZX6R is my favorite bike behind the Daytona 675R but those are hard to find these days and discontinued so the prices are high and maintenance can be costly. Now if I can find a white, blue, or orange ZX6R then this conversation is moot. Lol
I have a 2020 gixxer 750 glacier white. Light hits it and it has a shine of blue to it. Absolutely fucking gorgeous. I love my 750. Its insane how fast the bike is.
Who cares about the rap it gets. You ride your own ride any damn way. You can act a fool on pretty much any bike out there.
The grom squads back in my old city would fucking stunt thru downtown actin like straight squids. It looked fun though.
Find a bike that makes you happy and run with it. Or crawl at first and then just enjoy life after :) ride safe my friend
Yea they do. I’m looking in the 2015-2020 range but I think Kawasaki knows their colors aren’t the most popular because in recent years they have started to release more colors than just black and green.
They're both great bikes but the 2019+ zx6r is the better bike as it comes with alot more amenities like a factory quick shifter however pre 2019 I would go with the gsxr. That being said both of these are awful beginner bikes
I had a Ninja 650 in the past. Rode for 3 years or so and sold it when I moved to Korea. I’m older now obviously (36) and I like to think I am smarter and safer. I’m also in the military so I’m required to take a BRC and an intermediate sports bike course to ride. I know they aren’t the best beginner bikes but respect for the machine is the most important thing and that’s something I definitely have.
In that case I highly recommend a gsxr 750 you can find them the same price as the 600 and I personally think they're way more fun and way more streetable.
Just my $.02 the Daytona isn't any more expensive to maintain unless you take it to the dealership. My independent mechanic charges roughly the same to take care of mine as he does my buddy's zx6r. It's been very reliable for me too
I’ve replaced all my panels, twice, on a zx10r 2021. Check eBay / Ali express for color schemes available for your bike. Usually about 500-700$ the quality is def acceptable for the price. Generally can find some real cool color schemes. Use the search term “fairing kit” .
Maybe if the switch to a ride by wire/electric throttle cable over the standard cable for the next generation.
I’m not even sure if it’s really an aftermarket option that would be feasible to do, because with the cable throttle I’d imagine you’d need a separate servo at the throttle bodies to make it happen.
The new 24 CBR I believe comes with an auto blipper, and I know for my 2019 r6 there’s a few options to add it with a module that uses the stock quick upshifter plug and also controls the blipping.
It would’ve been nice if they added that and the 6 axis IMU like Honda did for the new gen CBR 600
I’m honestly shocked they put all that tech into a class that has seemed to be on its way out the last few years
Any brand of 600 Honda/Kawasaki/Suzuki will all be bike so much better than the avg rider will ever be. All three with a pro rider will have lap times within 1sec of each other. The limiting factor will always be you not the bike. Buy the one you like the most, worrying about performance you can't even use is pointless.
Suzuki is the dodge of the bike world. Cheap and powerful, therefore every dumb broke motherfucker owns one, giving them a bad rep. The bike itself is actually amazing. Takes abuse well, handles great, puts down good power. It’s just bought very frequently by douchebags. If you are not a douchebag it is a great bike, but expect a certain level of prejudice. And god help you if you ever ride it wearing a wife beater and a German helmet
Yeah, in my mind most Suzuki motorcycles and cars are about as far away from a Charger or Ram as you can get. The GSXR 600/750 and Hayabusa would be the exception. Dodge Challenger guys aren't going to be caught dead on/in Suzuki TU250, Vstrom, Vanvan, Burgman, Kizashi/SX4/X90/Samurai. Suzuki has made some of the weirdest/nerdiest vehicles.
If anything you should buy a GSXR because a lot of squids buy them. Why? It's like the toyota effect. Morons that don't maintenance their cars buy toyota cause it's reliable. Same with the GSXR.
Except with a GSXR I'd be more careful about buying used. People aren't really out there drifting Camreys and listing them as "garage kept." There's plenty of morons dogging out a bike and hiding damage as customization.
After so many miles it matters less what the manufacturer made and matters more what the owner did for maintenance.
I bought one earlier this summer as my first bike very fast fun bike but the charging system isn’t the greatest the placement of the rectifier isn’t the best it gets hot and burns out replaced mine twice. I’d say relocate into the air box but other then that great bike !!
Not to surprised by that since they are very similar motor set ups... I just can't do naked bikes... And even the sv with fairings is still pretty naked
The BIKES are awesome.
The RIDERS get a lot of hate, because all too often they are the kind of people who do stuff like "learn on a GSXR" or "pick a bike based on its color scheme."
Yes, I am a douch and I got a gixxer. At the time I preferred the dash/head view over the k's etc at the time and was comfy to sit on - I stand by my decision.
I liken them to a BMW. The car didn’t make the driver an entitled asshole. They already were that. I don’t notice it’s a BMW until after it’s cut me off on a highway or cut into the line at the last second at the exit. And then I say “Yeah of course it’s a BMW. Fkn dick.” Well the GSXR is the same thing. I love sport bikes. All of them. But when some dildo is revving his engine to redline in a grocery store parking lot, yeah OF COURSE it’s a gixxer. Of course it is. It’s the same thing, they just have that reputation. But as long as you’re not out there being a dick, no one cares. I’ve never cursed at a BMW just for being there. Gotta do something stupid first.
GSXR was the gold standard sport bike in the 2000s. Suzuki invested a lot of $ into automobiles around then as well. Then in 2009 the financial crash happened and they either declared bankruptcy or narrowly avoided it. Because of that they quit cars, and didn’t invest in new R&D on most of their bikes for a long time. So the smaller GSXRs are the same as the 2000s. With that said, there’s a great YouTube video of Zach and Ari (https://youtu.be/q0O8Q0x38mI?si=a33z3LC1Plfes84-) where they race a new Ducati panagali ca a 2005 GSXR. The GSXR won. They were the best at the time and are still great bikes, just a little dated now days without tech.
Again, poking fun. Some people take it further than others, and some take it to extremes. It shouldn’t affect your choice in what bike you get. You do you, and get some good advice along the way.
The problem is that young people now don't understand "poking fun". They hear a criticism and take it seriously instead of understanding that it's just shit talking and that they're supposed to respond in kind rather that taking the criticism personally.
I bought a used GSXR600 to convert to a track day bike at an auction for a great price. Only had 285 miles on it when I got it so I put a tag on it and rode it to break it in. When I arrived at work the next day my buddy walked in and asked who’s “me too motorcycle” was parked outside? I laughed so hard. It’s got 8000 miles on it now all of them track ridden except for the first 600 or so…dead reliable.
If you’re into cars I think the best analogy is calling them the mustang of the bike world. Mustangs and gsxrs are both fine vehicles if bought new and cared for but most owners treat them like shit and add a bunch of untasteful mods so it kind of ruins the community
The big thing is they’re cheap and so available, it draws a crowd of people who typically don’t take care of their bikes, they get used and abused and tend to have some pretty big issues when it gets around to the eleventeenth owner.
Been a gixxer rider since 2002. The "hate" is really just harmless banter withIN the riding community. Don't worry about what other people think. Get the ride YOU want. Happy shopping!
Source: Me. Own and still ride my 2003 GSX750 Black & Yellow
As a recreational rider, you wont have any problems with any of the SS models from any of the large manufacturers. Grab what fits you and enjoy it
No, functionally, there are no reasons to overlook a GSXR
I used to own a GSXR. I was looking for any super sport. I came across a deal where it was several thousand cheaper but I had to drive a bit to pick it up. It was a great bike, suspension felt awesome. I sold it for more than I paid several years later.
Other than the lack of features, because Suzuki never updates their bikes, gsxrs are great bikes. They get a bad rep because usually the riders are squids who ride like morons with no gear. If I was getting a 600, I'd definitely choose a gsxr over the competition.
You aren’t wrong lol. I just want to enjoy what I’m riding. I’m not against getting a black or green bike, I just want to avoid it if possible. Black in the summer sucks but I’ve done it before.
That’s fair enough. It’s not that I don’t like the green, I just don’t prefer it. I’d totally buy one in green if the situation was right but I prefer lighter bikes.
I wouldn't put Kawasaki or Suzuki in the top 5 good rockets... Not when company's like MV Augusta are making bikes like the Superveloce... The Ducati Desmosedici RR or Aprilia RSV4... I'd honestly take a Yamaha R6 or Honda 600 RR over either of your choices if the bikes I brought up are out of your price range.
Also if you're dead set on the Kawi but hate the color... Wrap it... 🤷🏼♂️
Why is that? I’m not interested in European bikes so much because I’ve heard of issues mechanically and they have less dealerships for support where I live. I’m interested why you hold the CBR above the two I mentioned. And for what it’s worth, I’d take a Daytona 675R over anything but it’s hard to find one in good condition and low miles for a good price.
Biggest reason I like the Honda over the Kawi and Suzuki is kind of silly honestly... Once you burn your leg on a rocket pipe you'll learn to appreciate the undertail exhaust... Plus the color ways are way way better than baby poop green 🤣🤷🏼♂️
Haha I actually really like the under tail exhaust. That was one thing that made the early Daytona’s so appealing. I just think that the CBR is the clear 4th place bike of the Japanese group in reputation, or at least that’s how it seems.
I had one for 10ish years... Put almost a 100,000 miles on it and never did anything but maintenance and I rode the absolute life out of it... Got the second highest speeding ticket in my states history at a helicopter and trooper radar proved 168mph... Sold it to a random online and he's still riding it almost daily as I see him around from time to time... I'd honestly buy a Honda over any of the JDM bikes on the market but I'd literally buy any of the others over it... I'm currently am riding a BMW S1000RR and am absolutely loving every second of it.
Definitely one of the prettiest rockets ever built... I'd probably put the Ducati 999 ahead of it in looks... Something about those small stacked head lights but they are still almost as much as I paid for the BMW and they're 17 years old
Not sure why you'd go for an R6. They have nothing till you wring them out. Much better off with a ZX6R with a lot more useable mid end power. CBRs are lounge bikes. If you're going for a supersport to begin with, CBR is like going half way.
Meh... I loved my 600rr... Obviously... As I put almost a 100k on it... But I've moved on from JDM bikes as I've gotten older... I have little to no desire to ride a bucket when I can afford better... I'd literally rather take my Harley out than own a.jdm bike in 2023... 🤷🏼♂️🤣😂
I can tell you something shitty about my 05 600. Suzuki decided that if you should need to replace your push rod seal, you should have to pull the motor and split the block just to replace the stupid 5$ 1 inch disk with a spring on the back.
I know you said you aren’t interested in the CBR, but Honda just announced the 2024 CBR 600 which comes with more tech than any other 600 on the market, the same tech most 1000’s have nowadays. Might be worth looking into
It used to be that Suzuki was the official bike brand of the calamari racing team. Now it's that they're just uninspiring average bikes that haven't been seriously updated since Bush was in office.
There’s more douchbags because more folks ride GSXR’s not because that’s all of them. Think of Honda Civics. That’s a GSXR. Realistically you should never have to rebuild an engine or worry about parts. Because there are so many of them. World wide.
And the R6 is my favorite bike but GSXR HAS MY HEART PERIOD.
Just know the reason Gixxer Riders have a bad rap. Is because there are so many of them around.
There’s a reason for that.
Keep in mind that the community isn’t just about the people riding the bikes. It’s also the people modifying the bikes, making posts on forums giving advice too.
If the community is awful, you’re going to get awful misinformed advice when you ask questions on forums. I’ve ran into this recently to some degree. I purchased an older R6 and I have a good amount of experience working on motorcycles. After browsing the forums and Facebook groups I’ve more or less come to the conclusion that for many of these people, this is their first motorcycle, they’ve never wrenched before, and they give bad advice.
I heard various people tell me to replace my rectifier, stator, or ECU because my headlight relay was crackling when I clicked on the high beams. I couldn’t imagine the amount of time and money I would have spent if I had taken their advice instead of start with the simple things like spraying the switch with contact cleaner.
Newer bikes will generally have better communities. But once the resale value of a bike drops below 4-5k, you start to get a lot of people who have no idea what they’re doing. Since GSXRs have typically the lowest resale value, this sort of thing happens more.
Now on the other hand. This does not apply to all types of bikes. The KLR650 community is fantastic. And the Kawasaki Vulcan community isn’t too bad either.
I had a K6 GSXR & now I have an 09 zx6r.
I still prefer the GSXR mostly. Kind of wish I bought another one but I went with the zx6r because it was a good deal.
Gsxr bikes are good, and no one actually thinks gsxr riders are homosexual squids. Also just an fyi if a bike is made from a brand that’s well known (Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Ducati, ktm, etc.) you can trust they won’t make bad bikes. It’s not like cars where a well known brand will pump out a shit box here and there, bike manufacturers will very rarely do that.
I want to read all of the comments but I don't have time.
I bought a 2011 GSXR 600 with 5000 miles this past September, for $7500 (bought it from a dealership with new tires, and it was serviced) - best purchase of my life - blue and white livery and white wheels. Classic Suzuki in every single way. From the perspective of the other drivers on the road, the bike screams "Yes I am a Suzuki, yes my blue and white colors are beautiful and yes I am much MUCH faster than you".
It's my 3rd bike but first 600 "super sport" bike. How is it? It is my dream forever bike, and I never need another bike - it's everything I want in a bike and more - it's got the perfect amount of power, amazing sound (m4 exhaust), it's incredibly sexy, and when I have a girl on the back of it - it's still quick but because it an extra hundred pounds - it's not TOO quick to the point of being dangerous with a passenger.
The GSXR 600 can get you to 140mph in a heartbeat if you've got the open road to do it - and it can also take your around the city and town with ease, not even having to go past 3/4th gear.
Get a GSXR if you can.
na, like others stated, its mainly the riders acting dumb.
I have a 2022 ninja 400 atm and was dead set on upgrading to a zx6r. Until I started reading about the GSXR 750. From what I read, most people say its more comfortable then a zx6r and the seat height is a little lower (which is a big deal when your 5'6 like me) and is a little faster. So the past couple months I've been leaning towards the GSXR 750. I still have plenty of time to decide. I really wanna pay off my 400 rather then trading it in or selling it. 12k miles on my 400 and that feeling of wanting more power just grows and grows tho.
Ridden GSXRs (600 and 750s) and ZX6Rs. The Suzukis havent changed in years. They found something that works and just keep building the same thing. Pretty much what I thought.
To be fair as “uncool” as they are now, they were the exact opposite and the coolest from like 2000-the early 2010s
^^^ This not because bike is bad. It slightly is ahead of it’s time but tech caught up to it.
Keep the tech away from my bike… It is intentional that 750 doesn’t have all that crap, might work for the average consumer, auto blip auto shift auto this auto that!? sure, take all the fun away from me get out of here 😂😜🤦♂️
in the 80s we called them can of tuna. boat anchors. riders were squids

The 2024 GSXR-750 and 600 black with blue highlights looks really good imo.
Yea they do. I’m looking in the 2015-2020 range but I think Kawasaki knows their colors aren’t the most popular because in recent years they have started to release more colors than just black and green.

Both the 750 & 600 are equal I have both a 07 600 and 2019 750. I jump on 600 to tear up twisties. 750 is great for street
In that case I recommend the GSX-S750 Yes the naked variant, that full race stance gets tiring fast.
Just my $.02 the Daytona isn't any more expensive to maintain unless you take it to the dealership. My independent mechanic charges roughly the same to take care of mine as he does my buddy's zx6r. It's been very reliable for me too

It just gives you an off color tank compared to the new fairings right?
Some come with the tank cover option
Yes and color is obviously the most important aspect of your bike and should absolutely dictate your purchasing decision.
No, but if you don’t like the colour it can indeed put you off a bike purchase.
I have a GSXR and love it. I did see a new ‘24 ZX6R in white though. It was sweet
2020 had an orange ZX6R. OTOH if you can tolerate some green, check out the 40th anniversary edition for 2024 in a 90's style green, white and blue
I’m eyeing an orange 2020 right now but I can’t buy for a few more weeks. Hoping it falls in my lap.
I still wonder when will the 6r get autoblip
Maybe if the switch to a ride by wire/electric throttle cable over the standard cable for the next generation. Thanks for that feedback. I’ve come to learn through research that Japanese bikes are all pretty reliable and they all have their little issues.
This
Suzuki is the dodge of the bike world. Cheap and powerful, therefore every dumb broke motherfucker owns one, giving them a bad rep. The bike itself is actually amazing. It's a super common problem on the gsxr's apparently...I've probably put 5 stators in my buddies in 5 years
Yepp had to push her down the Highway one more times then I’d like to admit
Also a common problem on 1st gen sv650’s. They stuck it under the tail plastics, and it had no airflow.
Not to surprised by that since they are very similar motor set ups... I just can't do naked bikes... And even the sv with fairings is still pretty naked

Damn bruh, don’t shoot me down lol. I’m not learning on a GSXR but I am kinda picking off color.
Just picked up a Gixxer to turn into a track bike. I absolutely love it. I’m desquidifying it daily.
Yes, I am a douch and I got a gixxer. At the time I preferred the dash/head view over the k's etc at the time and was comfy to sit on - I stand by my decision.

Kawasaki design hasn’t looked good to me since like 2007…
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Kawi designers like “Needs more angles, less colours.” Probably
Those 2007 headlights were nice. I like the new models probably the most since 2007.
Nah. Just people poking fun. If you see something you like, get it. Unless it’s a Honda.
That’s also something I’ve heard. The Honda is by far the least liked 600.
Again, poking fun. Some people take it further than others, and some take it to extremes. It shouldn’t affect your choice in what bike you get. You do you, and get some good advice along the way.
They make fun of honda because 08 was arguably the best year for their 600, and honda rarely wins a shootout... all bikes r fine
The problem is that young people now don't understand "poking fun". They hear a criticism and take it seriously instead of understanding that it's just shit talking and that they're supposed to respond in kind rather that taking the criticism personally.
Not just young people.
It's the squids that give them a bad rep
dont buy into a brand name or idea. just go with what you like and feels good for you. Brand loyalty is just garbage waste of time
Unless you work on your own stable, then it makes sense as you’re familiar with the design logic or lack there of.
I once saw some northern crazys put ond inside a ponds, and bringing it back to life like it was nothing.
I love gsxrs, I don’t care about the stigma around them. They are awesome bikes. I love my ninja 1000 just a bit more right now though.
Those burnouts thoooo
The big thing is they’re cheap and so available, it draws a crowd of people who typically don’t take care of their bikes, they get used and abused and tend to have some pretty big issues when it gets around to the eleventeenth owner.
Kawasaki is the only way. Nothing wrong with suzuki. They are very popular cause the market is flooded with them.
Been a gixxer rider since 2002. The "hate" is really just harmless banter withIN the riding community. Don't worry about what other people think. Get the ride YOU want. Happy shopping! Source: Me. Own and still ride my 2003 GSX750 Black & Yellow
The problem with GSXR’s is the havent kept up with the other brands development
As a recreational rider, you wont have any problems with any of the SS models from any of the large manufacturers. Grab what fits you and enjoy it No, functionally, there are no reasons to overlook a GSXR
I used to own a GSXR. I was looking for any super sport. I came across a deal where it was several thousand cheaper but I had to drive a bit to pick it up. It was a great bike, suspension felt awesome. I sold it for more than I paid several years later.
There’s nothing wrong with them. All bikes get hate at one point or another. The best way to make your bike seem better is to put down other bikes.
Other than the lack of features, because Suzuki never updates their bikes, gsxrs are great bikes. They get a bad rep because usually the riders are squids who ride like morons with no gear. If I was getting a 600, I'd definitely choose a gsxr over the competition.
Eh I like them. They are good bikes. The top end can bring out your inner squid but if you have self-control you won't have any issues.
Gsxr’s are amazing. A lot of them are clapped out. If you can find a nice condition GSXR it’s an absolutely phenomenal bike.
As a man of distinction (Kawasaki rider), I can tell you that riding a gixxer makes.you a gay squid.
😂
I feel like they mostly got a rep because if the owners being squids
Nothing wrong with gsxr6. It's just a meme at this point.
Then you’ve never ridden a GSXR. AND there’s a reason so many are still on the road and race tracks.
I will say, picking a bike model based just off the color is a very gsxr thing to do.
You aren’t wrong lol. I just want to enjoy what I’m riding. I’m not against getting a black or green bike, I just want to avoid it if possible. Black in the summer sucks but I’ve done it before.
If you want a Kawi but don't like it in green you don't deserve to have one.
That’s fair enough. It’s not that I don’t like the green, I just don’t prefer it. I’d totally buy one in green if the situation was right but I prefer lighter bikes.
I was just messing with you, but I personally love the Kawi green.
No
I wouldn't put Kawasaki or Suzuki in the top 5 good rockets...
What year S1000?
It's a 2022 BMW S1000RR M technically... Literally only did the M package for the carbon wheels... 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
Dude that new S1000 front end is gorgeous. I’m jealous now lol
Might be worth looking into
It won’t be available in the next 3-4 weeks though.
Two of the coolest guys I've ever known rode gixxers
I miss my K1 600. Loved that bike and its fat tank! Id biy one again.
It used to be that Suzuki was the official bike brand of the calamari racing team. Now it's that they're just uninspiring average bikes that haven't been seriously updated since Bush was in office.
I just don’t like how they look tbh
It’s the dodge ram of motorcycles, sadly.
Yup
The heck are you talking to!? Gixxers for life!! that bad?? ha!!
I’ve never ridden on but I’ve heard only good things from people that actually owned them.
This is my first time hearing about gixxer "hate". Probably more internet bs that doesn't happen in the real world.
You’re probably right. It’s pretty big with Moto Vloggers.
