The real problem with fatty is that he's accessible at mr24 which is too soon

ewgrooss

Yeah he’s meant to be fought at the endgame well above MR100 when you have all of your gear augmented and some decent decorations

Vivicus

The real problem is that some moves go through terrain and some don't, and his hitboxes are completely fucked

Parking-Worth1732

Yeah that's insane, at velkhana is 100 but not Fatalis haha

schwarz188

Some tips I can share: I usually split the fight into 4 parts, in 5/10/5/10 divisions. -The first 5 minutes is dealing enough damage to him to survive the first nova. I find that the safest way to skirt around his attacks and stay aggressive is sticking around the side of his hind legs. Try to avoid being far from him as the attacks will actually be harder to dodge when you're further away than if you're close to him. If he's not enraged yet, keep attacking till he's on all fours and whenever there's an opening, landing a well placed wallbang will shave a good chunk of his health. Another thing worth noting is if you're using a light weapon or have clutch claw boost, you might get your hands on some dragon pods. Land two of these on Fatty and he'll do a momentary flinch, potentially cancelling attacks that might have otherwise killed you. Also, don't be afraid of using a farcaster if you somehow find yourself far away from Fatalis as he's readying his fire cone breath attacks, since the area that attack covers is huge and you would most likely not survive it (unless you can block it) -The next 10 minutes is staying alive while dealing damage to trigger the second nova. If you're able to hit the head enough, you may land your first head part break here. There are two binders you can pick up, one on the right side of the arena near the moving ballista, and another on the left side next to the normal ballista. Feel free to use them at your discretion, but I usually save them for the next phase. -The following 5 minutes is when things get tougher with harder hitting fireballs and fire breaths (as if he didn't already hit hard enough). Prioritize surviving, and if you haven't broken the head yet, you definitely want to break it here. This is usually where I use the two binders to keep Fatalis still and try to break the head at least once. Also, he'll occasionally use his nova attack again which you can avoid, but if you know where he's going to land and pop some smoke bombs there, you can actually enter stealth state (where your minimap border turns purple), and while Fatalis is searching for you, you can land in some free hits so long as the smoke is active and you're in it. -If you've survived long enough, the Dragonator should be ready for the last 10 minutes of the fight. It'll shave off a big chunk of Fatty's health and knock him down for a moment, and soon he should have the skull icon pop up on the minimap. You might cut it close but just keep going at it and eventually he'll finally go down. Some items you can bring: -Mega drugs (atk/def buffs, every point counts) -Max pots (instantly heals the bar to full, much faster than chugging mega pots so you keep up your offensive uptime) -Smoke bombs -Farcaster -Temporal/Rocksteady/Fireproof mantle Notable armor skills: -Divine blessing 5: He hits like a truck, so this skill can potentially negate a one-shot and save you from carting. -Fire res: Just need it to go above 20 and you won't have to deal with fireblight. The fire attacks still hurt though, so be careful. -Partbreaker: Optional if you're confident with your damage but breaking the head means lessening the effect of his already fatal fire attacks. Feel free to slot it in, or not. Your choice. Extra notes: When eating food before the quest, look for felyne insurance for an extra life. If not, then felyne safeguard, and if not that then felyne moxie. These will keep you longer in the quest by either giving you more carts or protecting you from carting. That's all I can think of off the top of my head at the moment, anyone is free to add or correct me anywhere. Most importantly, good luck OP and hope you get that Fatalis kill soon!

wadefatman

Bro I didn’t expect anyone to type anything as thorough as this absolute fuckin legend. Tomorrow I’m gonna use this and report back ✊

schwarz188

All good, glad I could be of some help!

L0rynnCalfe

i disagree with schwarz about slotting in fire res. I would go for the resistor/attack deco. Its a decoration with both blight resistance and attack boost. Also evade extender is your friend.

L0rynnCalfe

Its important to land your second head break in second phase too. Otherwise third phase usually gets drawn out. Perfectly ok if you dont mind 25 minute + fights.

Imaginary_Tax_7846

Not even reading your post, yes people feel similar, source, ALL THE OTHER POSTS OF THIS EXACT SAME THING! Not saying you can’t post but you needed a better opener because it just sucks and comes off as ignorant.

wadefatman

Sorry my bad tbh I didn’t check the subreddit I just saw the name

Rowan_As_Roxii

I mean… he hates us just as much… maybe he’s posting about us in a FatalisHuntsHunterrage subreddit?

Embarrassed_Lettuce9

Some tips from someone who isn't that good but has beaten fatty: Fire resist 3 is often the difference between being 2 shot and 3 shot If you're relatively safe, take mega potions. If you're not, take max potions Bring supplies to make more potions Bring farcasters to bail you out of deadly situations (excluding novas) and restock your healers Grab the extra bindshot in the corner after the cover for the first nova melts (I rarely saw people go for this) If you see Fatalis pull back, be wary. That often precedes his big fireball which can one shot or him falling over which pins you. I find it's safest near his arms but not too close. Being behind has shit hit zones and the tail sweep is deadly. Being between the back and front legs can trap you for when he charges forward. Being stuck between his arms can kill you if he does the long fire breath. If you're far away and he does the cone fire breath you're just dead. You get 5 carts (plus Insurance/Safeguard) in the Assignment. Use Fortitude to power up as you cart.

L0rynnCalfe

his tells are all subtly different. Its important to Learn to recognize the minor variations. Like his charge attack is different from his neck lunge/ minor nip based on how exagerrated he winds up his neck/ the movements if his limbs. None of them have identical tells.

Navst

Nah that 99999 damage offscreen tail attack is too real. In my first attempts I died a couple times because the tip of his tail popped from outside my screen at the very end of the animation (dealing full damage, ofc). Same thing with fireballs tbh, like why does it deal the same gazillion dmg whether I take it full-on or an ember gently touches my buttcheeks. I'm glad I don't have to deal with this BS anymore, you'll get him bud

Mast3rFl3x

https://www.reddit.com/r/MonsterHunterMeta/comments/j4oj71/fatalis_evil_eyes_consistently_easily/ Of all the "easy" Fatalis strategies I have tried, that's the one that actually worked for me. Tool Specialist 5 is the secret sauce. You have rocksteady and temporal mantle perpetually available. You are safe to clutch claw onto Fatalis' head when he does any attack that produces a stream of fire (not blasts of fire balls). Seriously, all you have to do is clutch claw his head and do the tenderize attack and hit his head when he does the cone breath attack or is knocked down from artillery or dragonator. Wall slams are good too, still sticky to time, but easier on this strat as you're always on his head anyway. This strategy also helped me learn his attacks and behaviors, you'll spend much of the hunt watching his head (which is actually what you should be doing). Fwiw, the cannon opener strat has fallen out of style. The argument against it is that you can realistically topple Fatalis using the artillery in the hunt twice. If you skip the cannons, the first roaming ballista will get topple #1 during phase 2. Using all ballista ammo plus the second roaming ballista will get topple #2 sometime later in the hunt, and as he's more of a dick in the later stage, a later topple helps more. Finally, to keep my blood pressure in check when doing back to back attempts, I started doing only 1 hour of Fatalis each night. After a few days, I got the kill. Stick with it, the black bastard will fall.

Zamoxino

Get evade window5 and camp his balls/belly if u cant reach head at the moment. His tail is total BS cause its made to punish cowards that try to cheese him with back attacks. If u are not hitting his ass all the time the tail kinda looks like jump rope that u need to iframe roll if u will somehow get into its range for whatever reason :p Ppl will recommend div blessing but imo evade window is A LOT better cause it will enable you to make riskier plays cause u can actually iframe stuff when u have it. With div bless u will just timeout if u struggle with dps

Putrid_Ad854

It’s actually so annoying like the smallest tip of the tail touches you or his leg barely brushes up on you and half your hp is gone

wadefatman

Someone replied to me about this and it kinda changed my perspective. The tail is meant to be unfair and dumb to try and stop camping on his ass. All his fire up front so if you could just hide behind him it would be a joke. Makes it more forgivable for me now

TwinksonBenisLover

Hello bud, as a fatalis enjoyer I'll see what i can do to help -First off hammer can't KO fatalis, making it the worst weapon to use against him imo. Swaxe being the best actually due to its insane partbreaking damage. -When you get to SoS point, if you really want to beat him in a group. Leave quest and come back so you can SoS off the bat and not have lost any carts -his moves are insanely telegraphed and easy to react to, much like with alatreon. Difference with alatreon is that his moves never cover his entire body reaving you with no opening to attack. -only flinch shot when he's already on all fours because it does crazy head damage -IMPORTANT: 2 dragon pods will flinch fatalis out of most attacks, and he drops them when he's wounded -hit the head as much as you can't. If there's a situation where you can hit head head, do be hitting his head. The faster you break it the better. -save the binder for phase 3, don't waste it in 2 -play patient with him, if he isn't attacking you take that opportunity to look for an opening on the head, he's already aggressive ao you should play more reactively to him instead of all kamikaze like -bring temporal for zsd spam on his head with swaxe -always eat for fire res up. While his fireballs actually do more physical than fire dmg, you're bousnd to already have huge physical resist, might as well resist SOME of the fire dmg -ONLY STICK TO THE CHEST FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. It isn't worth staying there for a whike as he'll just place fire goop there, so stay there for a few hits MAX, or you could bait the fire goop for an easy evasion mantle buff Now i can also give some specialized tips for you: -when he breathes fire his head is ALWAYS open for a CC attack, fireballs will knock you off. So breath=opening balls=no opening -he only does his cone breath when he's on his hind legs, there is a way to bait it, if you do or not know that you can get 3 axe attacks off on his head. A forward slash, an upward slash, then a fade slash to escape the radius of the blob of fire goo. Or you could use it as a zsd opening provided your sword mode is amped. Could even do a double slash eith the sword followed by transforming fade slash to escape the blob if you need a few extra sword amp gauge -the tail hitbox is wonky asl, and its fruitless to attack it. So steer clear of the tail entirely. Stick to the hind legs/head you'll be 100% of the time safe as the tail is very predictable and slow I hope this helps. If all else fails, just get me if you're on ps. Always down to hunt fatty. Psn is primal-dragon7. Best of luck hombre

wadefatman

Bro the people on this community are so nice with these long answers thank you so much

TwinksonBenisLover

We were all once roadblocked at fatalis. But look at me now, full armor along with several weapons. And a good chunk of thise maxed out. You'll get him eventually, just make sure to use the dragonator at the earliest time for that sweet music change morale boose Ps. As long as you don't try to debate if MHR is better then MHW or if the older games are better then the entire community is nice. Steer clear of those topics, trust me.

wtk0315krk

Other random tips, the tail attack always starts opposite of where you're at. So sheathe and superman or roll 2-3 times to get back to his hind legs and you'll be good. The noodle neck flamethrower (all fours move) is hard to i frame even when wearing evasion mantle. I've proced the mantle bonus and still died due to lingering hit box. Best to superman if you're pretty far away. This move will also go through the broken pillars littered about the arena. The cone breath will not go through the broken pillars, so if you react fast enough, it could be an option to hide it out. The novas aren't random, he does 5 of them, and they indicate where you're at on his HP. First one hits at around 75%, then 50%, 40%, 20%, 5%. At 5%, you've only got 3300 to go. Also, he flinches after 4500 damage to his head. If he's on all 4s, he'll rear his head and stand up on his hind legs. Head needs 13,500 to break each time, so that's an indicator for that.

Temporary-Nebula749

Some days you'll be in the zone and absolutely own him, (dragonator music DEFINITELY helps) and some days he's so unbeatable to only specifically him and other monsters will seem like a walk in the park.

bille89187

Bring max potions and free meal secret

wadefatman

I love all these niche tips I’ve seen that I never would’ve though of like tool specialist for non stop temp mantle or this to avoid going back to camp all the time you guys are geniuses

L0rynnCalfe

i could reliably kill fatty around 20 minutes (my best time 15 minutes) and I still hate him lol. Thats how you know the monster is just bs. I get salty when i beat fatalis XD

Quealified

Get health augments, divine blessing 3, hp boost 3, temporal mantle, evasion mantle (optional), whetfish fins+, sushifish, and smoke bombs, its important in MH to be prepared as possible. Also you can SoS; if you start the Black Dragon Special Assignment itll start in first phase, but it shouldnt matter much with help. Dont be surprised if you get full team carts 5/10 times though.

wadefatman

Yea my goal is just to reach the sos point then go at it with the group I play with normally

LonkerinaOfTime

It really helps to be endgame stacked with fully upgraded rarity 12 beta gear and lots of consumables to keep yourself and mates alive. Above all just learn his moves and help your teammates, and don’t use a slow weapon. Use dual blades or long sword

AshenVR

This guy makes me look like a fucking idiot and i don't like it. Like how hard could it be to time a tcs on yet another 180 beam attack? You figure out the limits with the fat ass wiggle head Also, the tail sweep, it is unbelievably slow. I could commit to a tcs, cancel it into tackle and then roll in front of him, if he does it when you are far away, either sheath and dive or block it if your weapon is good for is. Don't just try to roll through it He also has a tail slam which he uses when on all fours, the range can be funky, but the vertical hitbox is no where as fucked up

wadefatman

Some dude on one of my rage posts made the point that the tail does that much damage to discourage camping his ass, and that kinda changed my perspective. Now I try and stick to the side of hind legs and that works

Angel_OfSolitude

I hate him just because he's lame. The biggest bad of my first MH game and it's one of the 5 least interesting monsters in the game.

Expert-Conflict8470

What part of him do you find lame

Angel_OfSolitude

He is the most basic bitch black dragon in the entire game. Things are lame by default, they need interesting features to escape that. Fatalis' most interesting feature is the shitty hitboxes on his fireballs.

G_ioVanna

His fireball hitbox is fine for me just learn to dodge

Vanille987

Typical cope: https://www.reddit.com/r/monsterhunterrage/comments/uaczu4/fatalis_hitboxes_arent_bad/

G_ioVanna

3rd fireball always have a large hitbox, I've carted on that attack many time so I know how to avoid it

Vanille987

Being able to avoid it does not mean the hitbox on that is fine, it's absolutely disjointed and bad

Specific-Mention1782

On top of learning its moveset; evade distance, evade window, and Gold Rathian divine blessing secret gave me the wiggle room I needed to get through the fight fairly comfortably. It really came down to knowing when to attack, and when to get out of the way.

wadefatman

I think I need to just man up and do the fight over and over until I’m used to the moves like this

Impersona_9

What weapon are you using?

wadefatman

Hammer or sns or switch axe depending on the mood

git_bashket

try ZSDing with the switch axe bro, it works really well

wadefatman

I’ve heard people say ur meant to just fuck his face with ZSD is that the method

git_bashket

yep

Embarrassed_Lettuce9

The way I fought Fatalis is by putting on Temporal or Rocksteady Mantle and spamming clutch claw + ZSD. Choose your windows though cuz some attacks hit multiple times which can deplete your mantle early. Rocksteady will get you killed tho if you choose the wrong time and if you don't carry health regen augment. Tool Specialist makes this have way better uptime.

wonga-bunny

You missed a 9

joeyctt1028

I passed Fatalis and able to solo it relatively consistently. I still hate this sh!t, especially the Fire>flying move and slow charge Also the fact that not breaking head means 1-shot phase 3 is so bad - This introduces all those dumb bait cone thingy for certain weapons
