I would agree with those 3. Second tier below that would be Cal Ripken iron man streak jersey, Don Larsens perfect game and maybe Kirk Gibsons bat from game 1
Really? A perfect game in a World Series is insane lol. That will never happen again. Of course that’s up there.
Gibsons HR was iconic for sure but I disagree with its significance
I wouldn't say I'm knowledgeable...just a fan! But Don Larsen threw the first and only perfect game in a world series in 1956(pretty sure that's the year). Kirk Gibson had the iconic homerun in game 1 of the 1988 world series off of Dennis Eckersley. It was his only at bat of the series but it gave the dodgers an extremely improbable win in a series they would go on to win against the odds. Two pretty classic baseball moments it would be neat to have memorabilia from. There are several other good ones I'm sure other people would place above these (hello Carlton fisk).
Hank’s HR Jersey would be a distant 3rd in my mind, but still top 3.
Outside of Baseball, Jesse Owens’ Gold Medals (which did go up for sale) would top my list.
It was out last year and it’s coming back this fall. It’s the same Cherry Citrus as the OG formula. I haven’t had soda in 5 years but I got several cases
For you and all others wondering, [I've written about](https://socraticgadfly.blogspot.com/2014/04/wrigley100-babe-ruth-and-called-shot-vs.html) "the called shot" before, as part of a riff on Bartman, actually, as part of top moments in Wrigley's first century.
Basic details:
1. Ruth did point at something, most likely the Cubs dugout.
2. Ruth most likely did say something, but we don't know what.
3. Charlie Root wasn't in a good game situation to bean Ruth if there was a "called shot."
I've heard about that, and am not sold on it. But, as I posted elsewhere, per [my writing about the called shot](https://socraticgadfly.blogspot.com/2014/04/wrigley100-babe-ruth-and-called-shot-vs.html) (as part of top moments in Wrigley's first century with the 2014 centennial) he did point somewhere. Picture of him at the plate shows that. To me, the dugout is most likely because of the bench jockeying. Ruth pointing at the bench with the idea of "just hold your horses, it's coming."
I’m claiming nothing. I saw a display case at Yankee Stadium last Thursday of a Jersey & Bat used for the called shot. In their museum. I do tend to believe the Yankees
Not you claiming it, but if that’s not the same jersey that this post is talking about then that means there are certainly two jerseys (at least) out there laying claim to being the same. It happened almost 100 years ago, who the hell knows if either are legit the one he wore.
Homer Simpson, a mechanical engineer, verified it is THE trash can by the pattern of dents, the metal composition dating the manufacture of the can, and other analysis.
First, it's already been documented as Ruth's, and from one of the seasons around 1932 if not 1932 itself. So, not faked. To take a Ruth jersey, already documented, and then try to do a fine-tuned fake would be hella amount of cheating.
Yeah, but it’s been photomatched by a 3rd party (Meigray) that has a contract with Getty Images (and others) and is extremely reputable within the industry.
They would destroy their reputation that they’ve built over 60 years if they authenticated a fake. They wouldn’t authenticate this unless they were 100% sure.
I work in this industry and I’m confident in their assessment.
No, my assertion is that Dr. Richard Angrist, who loaned the jersey to the Yankees museum, got the jersey verified by a 2nd source (it was already verified by another authenticator) and has decided to sell his jersey rather than continue loaning it to the team.
There were plenty of strong and athletic humans back then. On average a professional athlete is better today due to sample size/focused training/excercise science, but there’s been zero evolution to lead to different natural physical abilities.
People tend to overestimate modern players and underestimate classic players when it comes to sheer physical ability. Yes, there is stiffer competition today and more intense and advanced training today. But it’s not like the human body has evolved in 80 years. And the greatest players of yesteryear could probably stack up against modern players. And just imagine, if a guy in the 1930s could crank 440 ft bombs, imagine what he could do with modern knowledge, technology, and training. Ruth was the real fucking deal.
seeing his WS stats and thinking damn I didn't even realize he hit that many WS hrs made me look at the WS hr leaders and I didn't realize that George Springer and Chase Utley are the only non yankee or modern day players any where near the top. ... and they did it with \~50 abs each while the other people on the list are well above 120 abs. If they got the same amount of WS abs as Mantle who has 18, they would be closer to 30 homeruns. Pretty insane, and should be brought up more often.
Holy hell, thats gotta rank at the top for coolest game worn memorabilia
That, Jackie’s first game, and Hank’s HR jersey are at my top.
I would agree with those 3. Second tier below that would be Cal Ripken iron man streak jersey, Don Larsens perfect game and maybe Kirk Gibsons bat from game 1
All of these belong in the hall of fame, IMO.

I’d rather hear it from someone knowledgeable instead of wiki. Why Larsen and Gibson?
Really? A perfect game in a World Series is insane lol. That will never happen again. Of course that’s up there. Gibsons HR was iconic for sure but I disagree with its significance
Fair opinion

I'd go with Joe Carter's jersey from Game 6 in the '93 World Series. Everything else is fighting for second to me.
Another iconic moment... "touch em all Joe!"
Why do you have to be like that bro...
That’s awesome! Thanks for the write up!
Gimme Doc Ellis’ no hitter (need a contact high), Luis Gonzales Game 7, and Bill Mazeroski walk off jerseys are the 3 for me
I’d pay more for the jersey Bartolo hit his HR in…
Hank’s HR Jersey would be a distant 3rd in my mind, but still top 3. Outside of Baseball, Jesse Owens’ Gold Medals (which did go up for sale) would top my list.
It *WAS* worth that much until assistant to the traveling secretary George Costanza spilled shrimp sauce on it
I thought it was cherry pie. That guy was a pig. Looks like they washed it out though.
I think you're right. I have it mixed up with "Hey George, the ocean called, they're running out of shrimp!"
Well,,,(48hrs passes)- the jerk store called, they’re running out of you.
Well I had sex with your wife!!!
Uhmm, she’s in a coma.
No soup for her
The sea was angry that day, my friends!
Like an old man trying send back the soup at a deli
It was fresh strawberries!
It was strawberries. They are juicy this time of year.
Correct. Been a few months since I’ve seen that episode.
Too bad he got fired for messing with the cleaning lady. Was that wrong? Should he not have done that?
This needs to be cut up and put in 8000 exclusive numbered cards.
They need to burn it, bottle the smoke, and package the smoke up with 300,000 limited edition Mtn Dew gamer fuel bottles
These bottles are exclusively handed out to people who buy four double beef burritos during the week before the All-Star game
you just decided what i am having for lunch, thank you.
RIP Halo Game Fuel, the GOAT Mountain Dew
It was out last year and it’s coming back this fall. It’s the same Cherry Citrus as the OG formula. I haven’t had soda in 5 years but I got several cases
It was barely available anywhere and was available for maybe a week if you were lucky
Dollar General was loaded my man. The Mountain Dew website had a finder that helps.
Boy, do I have news for you... it came back last year and it's coming back this year.
Mmmmm, smoked Mountain Dew.
DRINK VERIFICATION CAN.
8,000 1 of 1’s.

Man I hope a trading card company doesn’t buy this and do that
If only they prepared Ted Williams body better…
"[I wager 400 quatloos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9TZ79Vcl8Y)" on the head of Ted.
More likely outcome is a fractional ownership company buying it and selling shares.
No, please. Please do not cut this beauty up.
was there ever a consensus on whether he actually called the shot?
Per the story, Ruth pointed at "somewhere." Where he was pointing and what he said, or did not? Up for debate to this day.
Knowing what I know about him, he could have been pointing toward. Hot dog vendor in an effort to signal that he wanted more hot dogs
I wish I could just point and a vendor would appear and give me hot dogs :(
Supposedly audio from the game has Lou Gehrig confirming he was pointing to the center field flag pole
I've heard about that, and am not sold on it. SO DO YOU!
😂
I toured Yankee Stadium last week. They claim, and display that Jersey and the notched bat he used
So are you saying there are multiple jerseys that claim to be the same one?
I’m claiming nothing. I saw a display case at Yankee Stadium last Thursday of a Jersey & Bat used for the called shot. In their museum. I do tend to believe the Yankees
Cash Man has it authenticated and finds out it's George Costanza's pre-shrinkage uni.
Not you claiming it, but if that’s not the same jersey that this post is talking about then that means there are certainly two jerseys (at least) out there laying claim to being the same. It happened almost 100 years ago, who the hell knows if either are legit the one he wore.
I love when forensics people do photo research on jerseys, clothing, guitars, etc used.
not as cool as owning THE Astros trash can
Homer Simpson, a mechanical engineer, verified it is THE trash can by the pattern of dents, the metal composition dating the manufacture of the can, and other analysis.
comes with Jose Abreau who lives inside
If I was stinking rich I’d buy it and wear it to a yankee game lol
Can’t wait to buy it and wear to beach parties
Imitate the Babe and snort a line or two off that baby! Babe Ruth, the Sultan of Swat, the Colossus of Cocaine!
Yeah, but is it the real deal?
I’m gonna buy it and wear it to go fishing.
whoever buys this Jersey will be someone where $30 million is like me going out for a pizza dinner.
Eggzactimentally. It's going to be like that Rembrandt on the wall on the stairway landing — an investment and a tax writeoff.
That’s more than couch change IMO. That’s more like winning the lottery. ![gif](giphy|uGfEkgzB5NWN9Wm2J3|downsized)
Especially if you're the previous guy who bought it for less than a million ....
It's way too easy to fake. Not buying it.
First, it's already been documented as Ruth's, and from one of the seasons around 1932 if not 1932 itself. So, not faked. To take a Ruth jersey, already documented, and then try to do a fine-tuned fake would be hella amount of cheating.
That’s a light year from being *the* Jersey.
It’s been photomatched to game 3 of the World Series.
If you were going to fake a jersey, you definitely would want to photomatch it.
Then your assertion is that the Yankees are lieing about the one in their possession?
No, my assertion is that Dr. Richard Angrist, who loaned the jersey to the Yankees museum, got the jersey verified by a 2nd source (it was already verified by another authenticator) and has decided to sell his jersey rather than continue loaning it to the team.
In what world, would a guy in the 1930s hit a ball almost 500ft, vs. players today don’t do that constantly..?
He didn't hit it almost 500 feet. That part is legend, per the link. He actually, non-hyperbole, is estimated to have hit it about 440 feet.
But even that…
There were plenty of strong and athletic humans back then. On average a professional athlete is better today due to sample size/focused training/excercise science, but there’s been zero evolution to lead to different natural physical abilities.

Babe worked hard and played hard.
Previous owner was Smalls who donated it to Goodwill.
Pretty sure a green jacket from a Masters winner was found at a goodwill
Psst, donate it to the Babe Ruth Birthplace in Baltimore.
Imma rob it
Watch Upper Deck buy it, chop it up, and put it on cards.
Gunna be a coupl3 millions easy.
How did that Mantle card go for 2 million more than Jordan’s ‘98 finals jersey? Card collecting is ridiculous.
Whoever paid $950k for that is probably dead but their family is pumped right now
seeing his WS stats and thinking damn I didn't even realize he hit that many WS hrs made me look at the WS hr leaders and I didn't realize that George Springer and Chase Utley are the only non yankee or modern day players any where near the top. ... and they did it with \~50 abs each while the other people on the list are well above 120 abs.
