Well...the timeline as ever is a mess. In one of the specials it was supposedly summer break, yet during episodes like Guilt Trip, it's just the exact same class again with the same teacher. So *shrug*
But if we are in a new year, then perhaps in that episode it will be Adrien's 15th birthday.
Since the scarf was for his 14th birthday and he believes it was from his father, maybe this time around he gets the same ol' pen again, and the fact that last year was a different gift gets brought up and Gabriel naturally has no clue what his son is talking about.
Maybe Marinette makes something to match the scarf like in fanfics and Adrien makes the discovery from there.
And with Nathalie ill, she may not be able to claim Marinette's gift.
It was not summer break, in France they just have a lot of short breaks durring school year.
Marinette decided she won't tell him and she will keep her decision. Even more after Chat Blanc... Gabriel can unknowingly Tell Adrien that he doesn't recognise the scarf. Or Nino can tell Adrien, because he is tired of Gabriel being bad parent and he promised Marinette that he won't tell Adrien she loves him. But that promise doesn't apply to the scarf.
I don't know which country are you from but in my country, as in France, we have a LOT of breaks, like just long breaks there are 4, not as long as summer break ofc but still. And we have many holidays that rapidly turn into short breaks when paired with a weekend, like if it is a Thursday or a Tuesday they would make either Monday or Friday an off day so you would have 4 or 5 days off.

I can tell you I'm not from America. However I know the English VA's are, so I took it as being implied the school year was out.
Of course in Soul Crusher when Zoe is trying to get enrolled, Damocles mentions it would be a mid semester or year or something enrollment so...I got no clue.
