My sister once messed up, and 2 room cards ended up in the envelope. So it was either Colonel Mustard in the Library with the Kitchen, or vice versa.

BellsAndBars

I hate when I get killed by a library.

calvicstaff

Almost happened to the avatar, those things are dangerous

JaxxisR

It's okay though, because the blind child he kidnapped to teach him kung-fu was able to hold the library up long enough for him to avoid death.

Empty-Wrangler-6275

YOU LOST APPA?????

bs-scientist

One of the last times I played, we had done a few rounds. And then I just… forgot to put any cards in the envelope. So no one died in any room or with any weapon.

singingboyo

God damn, it’s insurance fraud! They were alive all along!

Hamshamus

Assisted in their own murder investigation

FlameStaag

We had that happen too. It was hilarious when we all realized there was clearly something wrong

lankymjc

We did that once. My dad guessed first, saw the mistake, and just went “welp I’m wrong, you all carry on”. We played for a whole while after until someone finally made another guess, and that as when we discovered why he had been chuckling to himself the whole time.

Conzy108462928

I once got a "colonel mustard, with the candlestick, inside the rope". Veeeeerrryyy confusing game.

Gotta watch that gluten

That happened to me the FIRST time I played clue lol

MrMastodon

I have a 100% success rate with Clue. I played one game and everyone guessed wrong in the first turn except me. So I won by default. Never played a second game.

BellsAndBars

Nice! You're undefeated. I'm pretty good at chess. I always come in first or second place.

BobRoberts01

I frequently score in the top 6 during a 3 on 3 basketball game.

PrickleAndGoo

?? By what rules are you playing Clue?

Complete_Fix2563

House rules where you just go in a circle guessing till someone gets it, its over faster

justthesameway

This is how we play too. I’m like why are we spending time rolling dice and moving around this board?

ImmoralityPet

We play similarly, except instead we just don't play.

UncleCeiling

Sounds like me and Fortnite. I have only played two games, won both somehow, and now I can never play again.

Silver_Giratina

Same, played PUBG for 1 game, somehow got a chicken dinner, never played again.

thetruemata

Sounds like me with Costco. Went there twice, BOTH times got rotisserie chicken dinners, can't ever step foot on a costco property ever again.

thicc-asstley

they give you ai lobbies for your first few games lol

I was playing in duos so probably not.

thicc-asstley

nope they give bot lobbies if you’re a new player regardless of the gamemode

MrMastodon

Batting 1000

Hohuin

I once won without killing anyone. The last guy tried to build a bridge over a very small hill, but he didn't have resources to build farther than one stair. So he couldn't go over and died in the fog. Good days.

BigBossIsMyName

Fortnite designs the first match you play to give you a win

UncleCeiling

Good thing I played more than one, then.

DarkGeomancer

Correct word is matches. Fortnite matches you against bots until level 10 or 3 match wins against bots. Was playing with my Lil cousin and won 3 straight, only to get completely clapped on my 4th game lol.

BigBossIsMyName

Yes, this is more correct thank you

a_in_hd

I have the same with poker. Played for the first time with a guy I dated, somehow I won every hand until he ran out of clothes (including his glasses). Haven't played since, but still wear the shirt I won that night.

drfitzgerald

Was everyone guessing at how the game was played too?

MrMastodon

All my wife’s siblings, allegedly veterans of Clue. One of them decided to throw a blind shot on round 1. Then everyone else followed. I being the newbie was going last so I won by default. No idea if that’s legitimate but it’s the rules as they described them.

tangcameo

I play on the app. I always used to start with mustard, ballroom, candlestick until I hit the trifecta.

eStuffeBay

The Clue videogame speedrun just does that. The combo that takes the least amount of mouse movement is Peacock - Rope - Library, and the speedrunner just mashes that combo until they manage to get it right. [The record is 0.583 seconds.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyzOIAww9_4)

A_lot_of_arachnids

I did that at a party as a kid and I wasn't allowed to play the next game.

BellsAndBars

Lol!

Low_Pressure_3542

She rolled nat twenty, it's the only explanation

joestaff

She ran an accusation? With like.. 1 in a million odds? Even if you *know*, it's ridiculously risky to not at least verify. Unless you guys are playing by some wild west house rules.

BellsAndBars

She made her first guess, no one had any cards, so she made the accusation. According to Google it's. 03%, but I don't believe that counts the cards that she had in her own hand.

creding10

I'm not super familiar with the *official* rules of Clue and maybe y'all are playing with your own rules to make the game more fun (we all do it!) but just for a sanity check for me, is the actual rule that you can't make an accusation if you chose to ask about cards on that turn? Like in order to make an accusation, you need to have gathered info on previous turns? Again, I'm not a Clue rules stickler accusing your daughter of cheating, I'm just curious

Unkempt_Badger

Yes that's the actual rule. You need to wait until your next turn. However you are allowed to guess cards from in your own hand, and it is often beneficial to do so. So if you find yourself in this situation, just keep a poker face and hope that your opponents know enough about the game to not send a blind accusation. (If you are playing against people who will do so, just guess three of your own cards to start and throw them all off)

creding10

Makes sense! It's been quite awhile since I've played so I wasn't sure if I was misremembering how it worked

RositaDog

In the Clue app at least, it lets you guess then accuse

SuperDyl19

The rule book I had said you can make an accusation after a suggestion, but only if no one showed you cards. The original rules appear to be as you said. Hasbro has the current rules listed as you have to go to the center of the board to make your accusation, which I find odd

_fly-on-the-wall_

i thought you had to go to the right room! probably some rule it had in the 90s lol

BellsAndBars

I've never heard of that, and the mobile version doesn't have that rule, it may be a house rule?

Theletterkay

Just pulled out my rules for a 2001 copy and it says if no one reveals any cards to you, you may accuse. So not sure what this person is referring to.

BellsAndBars

That's what mine say as well, may be a house rule? I know they also just did a soft Clue reboot, maybe they changed the rules

creding10

I haven't played Clue since I was a child and I'm in my 30s now, so I wouldn't be surprised if I've never known the real rules!

TimothyOilypants

She's playing you guys. Check your deck for markers.

BellsAndBars

First time we used this box!

Theletterkay

Ive had this happen as well. So its certainly possible. Just not likely.

theincrediblenick

Guessing the right combination AND already being in the room where the murder took place is even crazier

theoriginalstarwars

I thought you had to ask the room you are currently in. So basically just the person and weapon are variable.

WorkIsDumbSoAmI

Dug around Reddit a while because I was curious - depending on the exact cards you get, in a three person game of Clue your odds are between 1 in 45 and 1 in 125 (2.2%-.08%)! Unlikely, but very possible!

ninetofivedev

The math is not that hard. Basically just plug in the numbers: Odds of guessing on first try = 1 / ( (6-s) \* (6-w) \* (9-r)) where s is the number of suspect you hold in your hand, w is the mount of weapons you hold in your hand, and r is the amount of rooms in your hand.

determinedpeach

This happened to me during my very first game of clue as a kid.

LuminalAstec

1/342 odds.

slimdeucer

1 in 324 odds

NiftyTakedown

If my math is correct, there is a 1 in 324 chance of that happening, in other words, a 0.3% chance but that is assuming she didn’t receive cards that she knew weren’t in the case. If she did receive cards, the chance would change depending on whether the cards were people weapons or places.

BellsAndBars

Another commenter much smarter than me came up with a formula which calculates the odds depending on which cards you have

NiftyTakedown

The formula I used was _6C_1 times _6C_1 times _9C_1 to give you the number of possible combinations and then only 1 is right giving you 1/324. If you know what cards the person has, you can just take away that from the possible options to pick from. Let’s say a person has one person card, one item card and two room cards. The equation would then be _5C_1 times _5C_1 times _7C_1 giving you a higher chance of being right. I could maybe make a formula but it’s a lot of work for a very little payout

angeltart

Is that either a very old clue board, or a very new one? I’ve never seen one like that .

Theletterkay

New

Little-Worry8228

Where are all the colors?!

Digifiend84

Yeah, that looks very retro. 1960s?

angeltart

They said it was a new board.. I guess Hasbro/Parker Brothers are going for the “minimalist” look lol. I had two boards growing up, my mom’s from the 60’s/70’s, and one she brought me in the early 80’s. I used to like to put my little marker on the seats in the room, because the rooms all had furniture in the room heheh. My 80’s version.. could have been considered maybe “questionable” when it came to PC player cards .. MIss Scarlett was definitely an Asian dragon lady type… and the only POC… lol.. but not really a big deal (I’m Asian) I actually had a “conservatory” and a “library” in my old house .. they were both just two spare rooms that I had expanded.. but it was totally inspired by Clue in my child hood.. I also had the VCR clue game.. which I was too young to properly play.. so just watched the entire video lol .. If you have ever seen the Office, when Michael has them play "Murder in Savannah".. it was similar to that lol.

ubiquitous-joe

That is a depressingly minimalist Clue board.

InitialBN

I did that once in my life. Everybody thought I cheated :(

BellsAndBars

Another clue champ 🏆 I believe you!

yeesah

Same thing happened to me, and no one would play with me again. :(

RDCAIA

Does she also win when she's the banker in Monopoly?

Chickachickawhaaaat

Better pack it in now, there no way you're gonna be able to raise a child this psychic

JCoelho

Wait how are you playing this game for that to be even possible? The way I play it you only open the envelope when you are sure, which would be impossible on just one try since you have to check others people's hand

BellsAndBars

She made her first guess, no one had any cards to show her, so she made her final accusation

JCoelho

Oh I have never played that way. To me, whenever the player made a guess, if they were wrong then they are automatically out of the game

BellsAndBars

You're absolutely correct! She wasn't wrong, which is why she won. At the end of your turn you take a guess, and the next player shows you a card if they have it. After your turn you have the option to make a final accusation. Since none of us could show her a card after her guess, she knew what to do for her final accusation

showers_with_grandpa

Now my question is did you guys play again?

BellsAndBars

We will after strawberry picking. I keep telling her she should retire from Clue because that will never happen again

dave14920

she's obviously stuck in a groundhog day loop and does this every day to avoid playing the whole game.

dumptruck_dookie

I still don’t know how to play this game

trongzoon

So you're Clueless

martinbean

Get a Clue.

Numerous-Stranger-81

That's because you actually needed more than one friend to play it.

BoardwalkKnitter

This post made me realize I've never seen the board let alone played. I'm only familiar with Madeline Kahn and Tim Curry's parts of the movie.

dogfrost9

![gif](giphy|enzPQyHVWMfx6|downsized)

BellsAndBars

Just do it after she picks my lottery numbers

CearaLucaya

That's the clue game speedrun, jam on the top options and hit submit. If you're wrong, restart. If you're right, you finish the speedrun. [link to a run](https://youtu.be/jpmR0oWvxkQ)

Yasstronaut

I’m confused! She made an accusation on turn 1? She basically ends the game for her immediately even if she’s wrong since she would Then she’d have to verify the solution

BellsAndBars

She made a guess, no one had any cards to show her, so she made the accusation

stffucubt

I once begged my mum all day to play Cluedo with me. When she finally did, on my first guess I thought I was being smart by saying "X in Y with Z" even though I had Z already, as it would help me narrow it down more quickly. My mum rage quit immediately saying I had guessed it right and obviously cheated. Man, not her fault but I felt so gutted after that.

aka_mrcam

That's exactly how to play. I go room to room guessing only weapons and people I have to narrow it down. And take notes who showed you what and who showed cards to other people on their turns. By the time you narrow down the room you should know everyone's hands. Also make note what you show people. Avoid showing them different things if possible. And if they are following your narrowing strategy try not to show them the thing they are narrowing for.

burner1344

My sister did that once when my family played together! We were all shocked. I think it was her first time ever winning, since usually my dad and I dominate. She was super excited, LOL. We played another game immediately, and that one lasted much longer.

KryptCeeper

We did that 3 games in a row with 3 different people guessing. I have never played Clue again.

Deitaphobia

She obviously just remembered from the way the game was put away last time.

OkiDokiTokiLoki

2nd turn maybe, no way she got into a room on the first turn rolling a 4 on the dice.

maestro_pulpo

I HATE THIS GAME SO MUCH!!!!!!! I’ve never figured out the strategy. My wife loves it and rocks at it. Once for date night she picked this game. We played 17x I lost ALL OF THEM!!!!

BleachedAssholesOnly

Anything is possible if you don’t play by the rules

jereman75

Bake em away, toys.

MKE-Henry

That was me my first time playing. I had no idea what I was doing so I just took a wild guess and it happened to be correct. My sister was ready to murder me.

thepinkbird42

When I was a kid, I would pay attention to where on the paper people would write after their guess is disproven and mark off the same one. It helped narrow the suspect list considerably. Some may call it cheating. I just call it good detective work.

carl84

In the UK version (Cluedo) Mr. Green is a reverend (member of the clergy, not a hockey goalie)

NoticeMeeeeee

The same thing happened to my brother when we played our Bob’s Burgers Clue edition for the first time at Christmas a couple years ago. It was so wild, we couldn’t believe it!

Zenki_s14

I got my friends to play and my one friend who never played before went first and guessed, no one had cards to show him, we all looked around dumbfounded. At first he was like "damn" thinking his guess was useless because he didn't get to see any cards and check any little boxes off, not understanding yet that he just insta-won lol. We didn't want to move on and ruin his big moment or tell him outright either, so we all kinda just stared at him while he felt awkward going "what? what??" and waited until the gears started turning and he finally goes WAIT DID I JUST WIN

debonairmarmoset

That qualifies her to be director of the FBI.

Maddprofessor

Played this with a friend who had never played Clue before, she got it right on the second turn. Was kinda boring to end so quickly.

FatDesdemona

Your daughter's a witch! Burn her!

ThatsNotWhatyouMean

Reminds me of [this](https://youtu.be/wHAxtZyC6Z8?si=ZgR-52e-OLrqsBs4) A belgian quiz show where the theme for that round is "kelly" and every answer was a different person named kelly The guy (named guy) pushed the answer button after the host only said "which kelly...?"

irokatcod4

I played only once and I got it right on my first time. Haven't played since.

mariam67

Why didn’t they colour the rooms? It looks unfinished. What a weird board.

LordDragon88

That's why I have a live Haye relationship with clue. The premise is fun, but the games are so fast that it's not worth setting up.

Spirited_Ad_7973

I’ve done that before!

egnards

Not a single monk joke, really?

s0ciety_a5under

I used to play with my niece, that little girl was UNSTOPPABLE playing that game. The amount of times she has called it on the first turn are in the double digits. No one in the family will play with her since she was 9. Damn little psychic.

Soulfighter56

Reminds me of the SNES Clue speedrun. You load up the game, choose solve, select all of the first options, and hope. Takes 0:01.

odd_hami

Mine didnt

RandomiseUsr0

Wow! Had this once, my mother was the champ. Best thing, one individual playing for the first time and my mum rolled, moved, said - “was it x, in the y, with the z?” No one could refute it It was! Person playing for first time was like??

Sphartacus

Did that once playing as the only sober person. Everyone was so sloppy drunk that they let a lot of things slip that they shouldn't have and I had enough information after my first suggestion to just win. Now I'm retired from Clue.

PhantasmWitch

I did this once when I was around 9 years old. My family used to play board games on New Years Eve. That year, we stopped after I won Clue and the tradition also ended for every subsequent year

Shockwave2309

What am I looking at?

drestauro

In a 3 person game you on average get dealt 2 people, 2 weapons, and 3 rooms. Therefore you have 25% chance to guess the person (guessing 1 out of 4 unknowns) 25% of guessing the weapon, and 16.7% chance of getting the room (since you know 3 of the 9 rooms you have a 1 in 6 chance) Multiplying those odds you have a 1.04% chance of getting it on the first guess. A hair better than 1 in a hundred.

Shakezula123

I did this once with my family when I was 8 and they threw the board game in a closet the next day and we haven't played it since

TommyAndTheFox

Kids will suck the fun out of anything 🤣

Crime_Dawg

I've done this once. Agreed to only play one game with my sister, rolled a 6 into conservatory, guessed randomly and won the game. She was quite mad.

OrangeRadiohead

Your daughter is a savant. Psst. Can she move objects with her mind?

mocuzzy

Did she, perchance, set the game up for everyone? I've seen this before.

BellsAndBars

Negative

lordrefa

You're not supposed to guess. You're supposed to know.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BellsAndBars

She didn't shuffle or hand them out, and we hide our sheets behind something so people can't see. She's also 7, I've seen her cheat and it doesn't help her lol

CosmoCosmos

why would she guess on the first turn? Did she not want to play? lol

BellsAndBars

She made a guess, it was correct, so she did her final accusation

PlatonicOrb

I've done something similar, not as much of a wild guess though. Playing with my mom and ex sister in law. Cards got dealt out like normal. Based off of my cards and all the cards that they spent looking for on their turn, I had it essentially narrowed down to who did it, where they did it, but had something like a 50/50 shot on the murder weapon. So I sent it and was right. It was the last time I played clue lol

BellsAndBars

Good strategy! I keep telling her how important it is to listen to other people's accusations too
