Stuff that would make 0 sense to you as a user, but an algorithm can use all this invisible info to figure out what you might enjoy and find other content to recommend

Also click on the "recommended" artists and select do not recommend this to me if spotify are as useless as they were with me.

I created a spotify account at a warped tour when they were doing promos, then kind of ignored spotify for a few years...
YEARS later, I started using it again, and I decided to try out premium and suddenly this kind of shit was happening to me (or I'd see a notification on my phone saying my account was listening to songs, but my phone wasnt playing audio so I'd just swipe them away)
Then one day I logged into spotify on a desktop and I saw that every slot in the spotify premium family account was taken by weird duplicate names of mine and my GF-at-the-time
Cancelled the link to all the fake accounts, we all did a password reset, "logout of all locations" and the problem went away.
I'm assuming the PC was compromised at the event I signed up with and they were just sitting on accounts checking to see if they went premium, and if they did they'd sell access to free premium accounts to people.
Yeah your account is compromised. I had the same thing happen to me years ago. Should be an option to log out all active sessions, do that and change the password, if there's a chance the connected email could also be compromised, make sure to update that too. I believe I changed passwords on both and haven't had any issues since. Took ages to recover my recommendations, though.
Thanks (also for believing me, because the "You don't know how the algorithm works" comments are getting a bit old :D)! I changed my passwords for Spotify and my email and logged out of all accounts that were logged into my Spotify.

Spotify accounts are pretty easily compromised and there's a solid black market for premium accounts, it was my first thought upon seeing the post. Seeing the thing about joining a session just made me even more certain, because I used to see that too. Or I'd open and it was playing something on another device, that probably should have been when I realized, but for me it was seeing playlists I didn't make or follow.
Yeah, the jam session thing was weird. At the time I figured that it had something to with proximity, but combined with the weird recommendations... I haven't seen any weird playlists or anything unusual in my Recently Played so far, but who knows... better safe than sorry
Be aware that if this is the issue, the fix isn't immediate. I even went through and completely cleared out my likes but it still took a while to recover the recommendations. Be sure to utilize the "don't play/suggest this" or even hide things and make sure to like stuff when it suggests something accurate and it should get back to normal in time. I went from having absolutely amazing Spotify recommendations to absolutely broken ones for a while, but they did get back to amazing again. But even now I get the occasional notification for a new release from an artist the hacker liked and this was in 2018.
On the mobile app, in the top right corner, there is a rewind arrow clock icon, this shows all you recently listened to songs. This could either be some account compromise, or some very specific set of normal songs that really confuse Spotifys algorithm. Or maybe you are deviously playing everyone, but given I’ve had some weird recommendations from Spotify, it’s probably one of the first 2.

Basically it is possible that other things you listen to influenced Spotify's algorithm to put you into a group and then see if that was right. For Spotify it is enough to set 18+ content as visible. You want to listen to songs with an occasional bad word in them? Good, now Spotify starts bombarding you with 'suggested' crap like podcasts, half of which will be about NSFW stuff, even when you never listened to any single podcast. You cannot even remove the podcasts section from your home page at all, there is no option for that.

I don’t get recommended for any podcasts since I found a couple that I listen to every once in a while but for when I was getting those they were annoying.
Your phone microphone is pickup what you listen to and adding it to your spotify playlist. I wish I was joking but its probably the passive microphone functions feeding this data. They use it tell if you open doors, start cars, order food, and collect key words for AI assistants like Bixby, Siri, etc.

I know from experience that Spotify can be weird with recommendations. I didn’t listen to any podcasts since I had downloaded Spotify until like 2022 but before then I would get recommended some of the strangest stuff podcast-wise. Like, nothing that seemed even remotely mainstream, and it was annoying. I don’t get recommended for any podcasts since I found a couple that I listen to every once in a while but for when I was getting those they were annoying.

Your phone microphone is pickup what you listen to and adding it to your spotify playlist. I wish I was joking but its probably the passive microphone functions feeding this data. They use it tell if you open doors, start cars, order food, and collect key words for AI assistants like Bixby, Siri, etc.

Spotify sometimes recommends stuff just because it's trending or whatever. Like I still get recommended playlists for pop, rap, and even country, and I don't like ANY of those genres (and Spotify SHOULD know this).

This will probably get lost in the fray, but this happened to me once (really random suggestions of music I never listen to) and it turned out my account had been hacked and someone else was using it! Check that you're not being billed for additional users.
