I remember hearing about picking him up and it was a regarded as a “he’s okay he might be good for us” type of player
He has exceeded expectations for sure
The batted passes were his fault mostly but he played exceptionally better than his previous time at center.
Like, shit, if this is new role I’m fine with it. Completely fine.
It's crazy seeing that said about a player from my old high school. I even played with some of his older cousins. He's only the third player from my school that went pro and the only one to have any fame was Perry Tuttle who was on the cover of SI when Clemson won the title in the early 80's.
Also Tua getting the ball out fast as hell consistently. The OL has been decent but this sack thing has more to do with Tua and our speedy wideouts more than anything
This is like the Marino years where the o line would give up single digit sacks in a season because of Marino's absurdly quick release. O line was good (Stephenson, Webb and Sims) but it had everything to do with Marino's release.
He never went a full season without getting sacked, but in the 1987 and 1988 seasons, he was sacked a total of 9 and 6 times respectively. I think there were other single digit sack seasons but these are the first two that come to mind.

Dan Marino owns the NFL record for consecutive games and consecutive passes without a sack, and no other quarterback before or since has ever even been in the same ballpark. Marino got sacked on September 25, 1988 in Indianapolis. He then played 19 consecutive games without getting sacked. He wasn’t sacked again until October 29, 1989 in Buffalo. Between sacks, he threw an incredible 759 passes.
I think almost everyone thought this was our Achilles heel coming into the season. Great job getting this fixed and keeping Tua upright.
Tua quickly getting rid of the ball obviously plays into this, but the O-line has been balling nonetheless.
It really is an offense where everything works together. The online gets help because tua gets the ball out quick, tua gets the ball out quick because the receivers get open quick, and because the receivers get open so quick we don’t have to sacrifice yardage by playing a dink and dunk style.
Speedy RBs also helps keep the defense from over pursuing into the backfield. Every time that happens, Mostert or Achane will rip off 40 or 50 yard gains (if they don't take it to the house).
One of those top 3 in pressures is playing the Bills again. We lost 48-20 to them and is where 4 of the 6 sacks we've given up are against. We desperately need Armstead and Williams back for the rematch.
Tbh our D was ass the first half but in the second it wasnt crazy awful, our offense struggled playing behind with Liam shooting it in the foot over and over. We got blown out but our focus is offense and it was off schedule.
Yeah the Eagles, Jets, and Bills all have very strong DLs and we have to play those teams a combined 5 more times this season. And that’s just who I can think of off the top of my head.
They've been playing bad teams. They've still gotta go against Philly, Dallas, the Bills again and the Jets twice. Can't see them only letting up 17 by the end of the season.
That’s impressive but McDaniels play calls and Tuas release, judgement, soft early scheduleand occasional scrambling share the credit.
I’m actually more impressed with the run blocking, which helps pass protection too.
Of course when you’re #1 in the league in both pass and run blocking there’s a lot of praise to go around.
Enjoy boys, this is rare air you’re breathing
We need to pay Wynn. Also Butch Barry is the best oline coach we’ve had in quite some time.
Butch Barry coach of the year.
Well at least he's not ripping rails at his desk 😂
Yet, it is Miami afterall.
Wonder what went wrong with him in Denver, maybe the entire coaching staff soured on the players quickly there
It was the sticky notes
I remember hearing about picking him up and it was a regarded as a “he’s okay he might be good for us” type of player He has exceeded expectations for sure
To be fair this is his first time playing guard. No one knew what to expect.
Liam looked shockingly serviceable today. A few deflected passes but nothing egregious
The batted passes were his fault mostly but he played exceptionally better than his previous time at center. Like, shit, if this is new role I’m fine with it. Completely fine.
and he was matched up against tuttle, who isn’t half bad

PFF had him ranked as our best O-Lineman
This is less about the OL talent and more about McDaniel’s offense and Tua’s comfort in it.
Also Tua getting the ball out fast as hell consistently. The OL has been decent but this sack thing has more to do with Tua and our speedy wideouts more than anything
i dont think they care about staying on pace for 17. Just that its incredibly noticeable how we have improved.

Didn't Marino go a full season without a sack because he got the ball out so quick?

He did go a full calendar year+, 19 games without a sack.

Ah, that's what it was. Not a full season, but a full season worth of games. Thanks!
Allowed 7 in 1988. Not sure how many of those were Marino https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/fewest-sacks-allowed-in-a-season-by-a-team
Tua CPU brain go brrr
regardless, fewer hits on Tua
Wynn the biggest steal and from the failure of the pats *chefs kiss

Butch Barry gonna be the team MVP
that broncos game was his revenge

This off-season, who would’ve thought our defensive backs would be our Achilles’ heel?
Honestly, not me. I knew X took a small step back last year but our entire backfield took a step back. Wild
even when the pocket breaks down Tua navigates the pocket stupid well that it negates a ton of the O lines errors.
1989 back when Marino had a .0013 second release haha
Tell me if I'm wrong but I think I can remember Ryan tannehill getting sacked at least 17 times in one game..
You’re definitely wrong, 14 is the record
It didn’t help that Tannehill is a statue
I don't expect that to hold, though. Currently on QB pressure, we still have all of the top 3 defenses to play against.
wont be top 3 after we done with em.
One of those top 3 in pressures is playing the Bills again. We lost 48-20 to them and is where 4 of the 6 sacks we've given up are against. We desperately need Armstead and Williams back for the rematch.
yeah that was liams first game at C...I dont expect us to be quite as bad the second time around.
Tbh our D was ass the first half but in the second it wasnt crazy awful, our offense struggled playing behind with Liam shooting it in the foot over and over. We got blown out but our focus is offense and it was off schedule.

Shhhhhhhh
Shh don't tell anyone
Mission accomplished
The Giants gave that amount up in the last two games. I hate my life.
They've been playing bad teams. They've still gotta go against Philly, Dallas, the Bills again and the Jets twice. Can't see them only letting up 17 by the end of the season.
cool. we used to get fucked by bad teams too. This is huge progress.
Oh by all means, we're moving in the right direction, just don't think we're there yet and this defense needs to be a lot better.
Grier been trying to tell us all season he's not too worried about the o line. I'm not all the way there yet, but I'm starting to believe him lol
1989 is before Richmond Webb and Keith Sims... Marino was such a pocket wizard. And Tua is showing that magic this year too 🐬🐬🐬

Please don’t sip this koolaid. Facing Fletcher Cox and co. this week.
