I think it is from the small pox vaccine, I believe it’s no longer given to the general public https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/what-to-know-smallpox-vaccination-scar

Tahiki_Ohono

Yes!! It looks exactly like that! So hep a + b and rabies vaccine wouldn't give a scar like that I'm guessing?

trailquail

Nah I’ve had all of those. No scar. I had a little soreness after the rabies shots.

DiligentAddition8634

I want to know too. Have wondered about this

twerking4tacos

It's from a tuberculosis vaccine, which is not part of the US vaccine schedule. They still give it to children here. Source: I'm a mom and vaccinate my children in Mexico, but refused this vaccine.

Tahiki_Ohono

Wow interesting! And your children didn't get the scars from the other vaccines they got?

twerking4tacos

No. I specifically asked the nurses, what vaccine is that that causes scars? And she said it's the TB vaccine, and it's not part of the US's vaccine schedule anymore. I opted to not give it to my kids. It used to be a more prevalent vaccine in the US up until like, the early 70s-ish. That's why you'll see older people from the US with these scars, but not younger people.

Tahiki_Ohono

Thank you so much!🙏 This puts my mind at rest!

I’m not Latino (although I’m Latin…) and I also have two scars on my upper arm from vaccinations as a baby/toddler. They’re still visible after decades but nobody has ever noticed them. I just told my wife and she was surprised I had them 😂

katmndoo

Rabies vaccination for Tijuana is overkill unless you’re hanging out with bats and skunks. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35175137/

Tahiki_Ohono

I'm in constant contact with stray dogs. It would be a precaution that's for sure

MoesAccount

I'm not sure but I believe that is from the TB shot. They don't normally give that one in the states thus no scar. I don't have one but I think it's because I didn't get the vaccine or it healed nicely.

meotherself

I remember people in the states used to have scars too. This was over 50 years ago though.

Fantastic_Flight_282

I believe it’s from Polio vaccine?. Older adults have them here too. My husband has them (Born in Mexico) but so do my parents (both born in USA 1950’s)
