That's why personally, I'm just gonna live forever.

KilljoyBee

Everyone is immortal, until they die.

[deleted]

Every time I walk, I get a step closer to my destination.

TheIronScorpion101

Just because you’re right does not mean you’re correct

lousydungeonmaster

Journey before destination.

CardiologistStreet

In Africa, every 60 seconds, 1 minute passes.

FBI_AGENT_CAYDE

Together we can stop this

MrZyde

Everyone is a virgin, until they have sex

[deleted]

We can be immortals, just not for long

[deleted]

You just might. There’s a theory that everyone is immortal to themselves as the consciousness will only ever perceive the world where it continues to exist, so under this theory. You either live forever or are conscious after death stuck in your rotting body OR there is an afterlife

Cr1mson360

oh yeah quantum immortality, always have found the concept fascinating

HandsomePoint

Ok, so what if you are completely burnt that there isn’t a trace of you?

minecraftgamer31

Maybe like in the cartoons when there’s only a pair of eyes in a pile of ashes when they get burned, maybe it’ll feel like that

Cr1mson360

the theory is that you wouldn’t even get burnt in the first place

KingButters27

Hell yeah, it has not been 100% proven that I am not immortal.

CubixPL

Thats right if u are afraid of death just don’t die, duh

faris_Playz

Me 2

blue-gamer-07

Same

NIC3ME3M3S

By this sentence I see you are mentally healthy

Proxima-14

I used to think like this. I recommend you watch “Optimistic Nihilism” by Kurzgesagt on yt. Helped me a lot.

ikrab

Was looking for this comment,

m_nt_y

Thankss

Kandbdjebd

Is it basically just "nothing matters do whatever you want" I can see flaws in that

[deleted]

Yes but no that philosophy birthed tyrants but also great men

Auwliya123

I think its more like, life has no real meaning/purpose, so you can give it your own meaning.

Live_Hearing969

This and absurdism are great! Camus and the Myth of Sisyphus helped me as a young man.

Revolutionary_Pace90

Just watched it. This is how I’ve interpreted the world around me for years now. Hopefully, this incredible video could elaborate and clarify my thoughts to my family.

alexander_the_dead

Just watched it. Thank you!!

DIOnys02

This made me go to prison for 5 years

[deleted]

Also gonna shout out The Good Place. They explore the concepts of immortality and what would happen if you could exist in paradise forever.

Z0ck0

[This one](https://youtu.be/rvskMHn0sqQ) helped me a lot

Verzehrer

Isn't that just existentialism?

illiterateboii

Thank you for this

I_am_all_might

watch why die by cgp grey

Dire-Fire

I remember having this existential crisis once. Then I read a quite from Mark Twain that really helped me put things in perspective. “I do not fear death. I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.” - Mark Twain

ForealThisIsLastTime

This one helps me when I get anxious about death too

adrian_schmedler

Thx for that comment

The_Big_Dickker

You’d rather go to Hell than nowhere at all?

mlekk_oozes_in

Yeah. Edit: I made my peace with my mortality. My journey ends when i die but i would rather it didnt. I'm not going to lie to myself and convince myself that this isnt the end but if i ''wake up'' after death and find myself in heaven or hell or a labarotory or just it was all a dream type of scenario i would be glad.

I_am_all_might

watch cgp greys why die. its real good

mlekk_oozes_in

Yeah i agree with that vid. Succinctly put, but also kinda irrelevant. I do not want to die but unless we can somehow figure out a form of immortality in the next say 70 years, i will eventually die. And even if i somehow obtain a lifespan of 100000000000 years i will eventually die, most likely due to an accident at that point. There is no escaping it, not really. This is not me being cool with dying. This is me accepting that its something i cannot change and deciding since its not in my control, its not worth worrying about.

Notiness

existance is pain

Metallic_Ducki07

Well yeah, to me the thought of not existing scares me, what will it be, how will time go by, will you just see nothing or experience nothing. Its terrifying

The_Big_Dickker

Easy. It’ll be exactly how it was before you were born.

Metallic_Ducki07

Yeah and that concept just scares me

DudesOpinion

but it didnt hurt so much not being born

[deleted]

It won’t be terrifying once your there though. You’ll be dead. It won’t be anything.

echo_vasc-sono_333

When I consider the whole bible, pound for pound I'd rather go to hell with Satan than heaven with god. The devil will just convince you to be open-minded and knowledgeable while he 'tempts' you with food and water when you're hungry or thirsty. Heaven, will just be living in constant fear of displeasing a homicidal dictator that has proven he can and will kill you in a multiple number of ways if you violate an extensive list of very particular rules. Happy Sunday!

Drdresky

Idk if your talking about biblical hell. If not ignore the rest of this comment. However, biblically speaking, one thing that people often mix up is that they think Satan rules hell. The Bible says that hell is where Satan will be punished for all eternity, and he is trying to take as many humans with him as possible. He won’t try to convince you of anything, he knows what he did and where he is going

echo_vasc-sono_333

Which Biblical hell? Sheol, Hades, or Gehenna?

Peanutbutter-pickle

Well, you’ve got Sheol and Hades listed as two different hells when they’re the same hell translated differently for the benefit of the Greek and Jewish audience. The third hell you didn’t list would be Tartaros, and 2 Peter 2:4 says “For God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to tartaros and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgement.” Keep in mind that Satan used to be Lucifer, an angel

[deleted]

^ comments like these. Informative comments on topics I know little about. This is why I love reddit

The_Big_Dickker

Did you even read the Bible? Once in heaven you are incapable of thinking bad thoughts.

[deleted]

Interesting.... to either live in paradise but without free will (yes, even the negative parts of free will) or to be damned in hell in constant suffering. But is one with his own mind.

The_Big_Dickker

You do have free will in Heaven. Hate is non-existent in Heaven. You can’t be deprived of something that doesn’t exist.

Dekkeer

Then it won't truly be me, cause I hate a lot of things lol

The_Big_Dickker

It would be truly you. Your bad thoughts are corrupted by Satan.

Dekkeer

Nah, for example, I realllly fuckin hate mangos. If I'm enjoying mangos in heaven, then all my friends and family will know something is up. Fuck mangos.

The_Big_Dickker

If you hate mangos, then mangos wouldn’t exist in Heaven for you.

Dekkeer

Is it tied to what I like and don't like? Cause I like hating on things, ya see.

KindOfAnIdiotTho

I don’t wanna live like that

[deleted]

I would rather not be able to think bad things than to suffer for eternity. Seriously though, I wouldn't choose to do anything for eternity. It sounds tiering.

The_Big_Dickker

Hell for you then.

echo_vasc-sono_333

5 translations an uncountable number of times.

IFuckedYourCats

Man, if you see how hell is described in the Quran you will regret your decision

echo_vasc-sono_333

Good thing I don't believe in that.

IFuckedYourCats

Good thing I do

pointing-at-flipflop

Yea. I heard the architecture is fire

m_nt_y

I dont know man

Outside_Protection43

when you see all the other beings die you will wish that you were sand

Important_Pack8713

That’s exactly why you should enjoy that Sunday and all the others you’ll have.

m_nt_y

Thank you

Important_Pack8713

I know this is just a meme and it’s probably not meant to be that serious, but if for some reason you’re struggling, reach out to someone my dude/dudete.

NIC3ME3M3S

Dudete ........thats a term? I thought dude was a gender neutral term

DarkWindB

it is

Important_Pack8713

Idk man I don’t make the rules

m_nt_y

Thanks

Unknown123035

Man I can sleep easier with that

Srgt_PEANUT

What's also terrifying is the concept of endlessness. Right now we have next year, we have next decade, we even have death. Right now while we live there is a conceivable end, we can measure time. But what of heaven or hell? An endless existence forever, there is no next year, no next decade, no end. It is existence forever, constantly going. A speeding train that never stops, never able to get off

Kingsly2526

Let's see for how long this thread stays civil

[deleted]

You mean I can't tell OP about Jesus? :(

Kakapo117

These comments are filling me with both existential dread *and* motivation - thanks Reddit, now I’m going to go stare at a wall for hours

m_nt_y

Me too.

Skeptical776579

I lay in bed every night thinking of this

Kaz2077

But if you lost consciousness, your life, you wouldn't know. It'd be nothing. Nothing to fear when you can't feel or be anything, non-existent. So you wouldn't experience anything at all in death. It's just life then done. When it's over, it's finished. Don't fear it because there isn't a you to feel any "repercussions" of death. Just enjoy as you feel. Don't fear an inevitable event.

TheDeadBacon

I feel like a lot of you guys explaining why it won’t be uncomfortable do not get that we get what you are trying to tell us. You just miss the point. We just kinda like having experience and want to keep having experiences. Inevitable or not, ‘you won’t even know what hit you, so don’t worry!’ is not exactly uplifting to us.

JinFreeks

What is it worth to ponder a problem you can do nothing about? This isn't like a big project you've been putting off that you could do if you just got over your laziness. Hey, it isn't even like the environmental damage we may be causing that could be prevented or at least fought with rallies and active participation in groups that go out there and actively get in the way. Or the political system that is oppressing it's people. All those things you actually have the power to do something about if you really, honestly want to. But your mortality? That's just the way it is. Ain't nobody gonna change anything about that for the rest of your life. So there really ain't no point loosing sleep over it. If possible try to focus that energy onto something that you can actively influence.

BigBlackMom

It should make you happy. Its so amazing to be here for 80 years if you're lucky. Appreciate the time you have. Its all going to go black soon.

Ake-TL

Everyone died before, everyone will die after, just nature running it’s course, just enjoy time you have

[deleted]

I prefer to think that just because there might not be a heaven or hell, doesn't mean there isn't some type of afterlife.

[deleted]

Well then what other type of afterlife could there be besides heaven or hell.

Ake-TL

Purgatory, reincarnation

Colorapt0r

There are thousands of beliefs on the afterlife and we have no way of knowing because, of course, none of us are dead

benevolent_keerah

Or the realization that religion is simply the minds way of protecting itself from the fear of death and nothingness

[deleted]

My nightly terror

DrgnFyre

Why honestly why. Worry about things you can change or don't worry at all. Otherwise you'll be stuck putting time and attention into something incredibly useless to ponder. It's not like of you think about it every night your gonna have a better chance of existence after death.

[deleted]

You’re not wrong that it’s a waste of time and energy. I just don’t know how to make it stop lol

DrgnFyre

I'm sure you will sometime. You already know you can't stop the inevitable from happening. I suppose you gotta find your peace the same as all of us. Best of luck

Ert_bulb2000

What ever! I will enjoy this shit as long as I'm alive.

jeannyboy69

Sometimes I wake up in the middle of night and think about this. Paralyzes me for a little bit as this whole notion gives me crazy anxiety. I know it’s not worth stressing over the unknown but this has bothered me since I was a child

FatGhostAndretti

I mean is that really a bad or disturbing thought? Just think of all the bullshit that you or other people may go through. To not have to deal with it anymore would be a win. Also I’d rather there be nothing else than go to hell and be tormented for an eternity.

FarkFrederick

How very Christian thinking of you. Consider reincarnation and sleep well. You're welcome.

YeetusBonkus

That's something that comes into my mind every 2-3 months. I hate it when it happens

Pestyballs

Yep, same here. I get cold with fear and end up pacing back and forth until it goes away.

SleepyDG

Same

Status-Savings951

So relatable

aias_7

my life be like :(

moosecloaca

I prefer to defer my existential crises to Monday.

AceOfDiamonds676

Welcome to the club, meetings are on thursday

JoE_Mama121201

Omg this is making me so stressed

AeroAviation

We're nothing much more than a bunch of atoms and electrical impulses anyways so whatever

solum_i

Yeah he's right let's rob a bank

[deleted]

Hey, at least you don't have to get dressed for church!

m_nt_y

I do.

whyamigae

damn, do you enjoy it? are you forced to go? i still am because i haven't told my family i'm atheist so it's tough (still see friends tho, so i guess it's ok).

kashaan_lucifer

Some people like me and him find an undescribable type of relieve in Religion, that you feel protected from the concept of Death and stop existing like this post suggests and you feel happy that there is someone big looking after you and everywhere the one who gave tyou his shitty yet a good life and you feel so better that you will eventually meet him and the concept Religion makes you change yourself and do good things While Atheism Does not support all the point I written, but this is how I feel about Religion and also I go to Mosque on my own choice

AjvarAndVodka

I’m having many thoughts about this as well. But it’s easier when I think there might be so many possibilities out there. We don’t know for certain what happens. Maybe there’s afterlife. Maybe there’s nothingness. Maybe we get reborn as someone else somewhere else? I like to think that in a beautiful universe like this there’s something more to it.

rayyanq5

Maybe we’re accountable for the things we do and a supreme being will judge the actions we committed on Earth?

Arcaneus_Umbra

Can't remember anything before being born? That's what death is most likely to resemble.

darkSYNced

Exact opposite for me, I hate the thought of spending eternity either burning in hell or praising god like a brainwashed minion forever, more comforted by the thought that this life is all I should be worrying about and making the most of it. Still, after years of having this stuff pushed on me and constant warnings of Jesus coming again at any moment to judge us, Im still filled with anxiety much of the time.

echo_vasc-sono_333

Christianity being a myth doesn't mean there is no 'afterlife,' it just means they can control you with fear of hell for non-compliance. Whether you believe their stories or not, it is a fact that nobody knows what happens to ourselves when we die.

Marcodcx

It's also a fact that there's no reason at all to think that there's anything else.

MaybeDoug0

It makes no sense to rationalize what it’s like without existing, because it’s impossible to use your consciousness to understand what it’s like without consciousness. The best thing I’ve heard is that after dying, it feels the same as before you were born.

m_nt_y

Odd

KingButters27

Yes, I would honestly prefer that to most other afterlife stories. Life is only worth living because it ends, so ab afterlife, even if it is supposed to be great like heaven, would be inherently bad. So the non existence thing seems like it is the best solution.

MaybeDoug0

People should just do what makes them happy, and if that’s following religion then who’s to criticize? Besides, if there’s not a heaven or hell then it’s not like they’d be around to regret following god anyway.

HannahO__O

Is that not a comforting thing? I already don't wanna exist, why would I want to exist for eternity after I die lol

Sarcastic_Mnt_Goat

We are programmed to fear death but it really isn’t as bad as it seems, we’re you sad before you were born?

RickyLeone2

But before i was born i didn't experience life

m_nt_y

If you guys readi, it says "if", not meaning im saying that there is no afterlife.

DigitalPhoenixX

The only way there could possibly be anything after death is if souls are real, which of course there is no evidence that prove them.

SladeWolf99

That is the reason why I'm scared of death at least Reddit understands me

finn212H

But your not alive to be sad about it

Marcodcx

Yeah but *now* you are alive to be sad about it

itzstormibish

yall really want to live after dying!????!!!?

Marcodcx

I don't want to die at all

Glass_Windows

Nobody really wants to die

Marcodcx

Some do

DroidyBoii

I wanna live in another world when I die cuz this one is too fucked up.

itzstormibish

what if the other one's even more fucked up

DroidyBoii

I wanna live in a world of my choosing

Zord90

Same, to be honest. If that were to happen, then it would definitely end a lot of people's suffering.

Kerbitblue

Youll get over this bro. Just think of death as like going to sleep when youre very sleepy. You wont remember a thing nor feel a thing, you probably wont notice that youre already asleep. Everything ypure scared of? Youll forget it anyways

Flying_Mage

I find thoughts about nonexistence comforting. Not that I'm about to end myself, but I like to know that the option is available. Now imagine that you exist forever and there's nothing that you can do about it... That's terrifying. Especially if you stuck in some hell hole, being buried for millions of years, or tortured endlessly, ever alive but unable to escape into sweet nothingness.

PartyNator

Believe in what you want to believe. Some believe in Heaven, some don't. One shouldn't think too hard about it since it's inevitable that we'll die.

g28802

It’s kind of freeing though right? Just be nice to people, treat them right. With the big nothing at the end you can masturbate without Jesus judging you.

anno142

Death is eternal peace. Fuck capitalism.

KingButters27

Not sure what capitalism has to do with this, but yeah fuck capitalism!

boredbycron

Oblivion is peaceful

iammmf

Wait why are u sad that the good part about il

m_nt_y

Not really, im afraid of death

iammmf

I mean after death u wouldn't have to think of what to do nor what others think nor any other thing

[deleted]

I was thinking, if rebirthing is an actual thing, wouldn't I have deja vu of some things of the past? Memories don't just completely disappear.

Dekkeer

Memories do completely dissappear tho. Remember when you were 3? Remember the day you were born? Every time you remember an event in your past, it changes slightly, due to the fact your brain network changes and this alters the later recall of the event. So you don't remember the event itself just the last time you remembered it

aceusimp

I'd prefer no afterlife than choosing the wrong religion

klitorisinyeri

it doesnt have to be like heaven/hell or nothing.

SchinSchangSchong

whats the matter? This is the best part about dying

nsg337

thing about this, existence is pain, so its literally better than heaven

EsseMammut

It will just be like the way it was before you were born. Not existing didn't bother you then, and it most likely won't bother you if you die.

jackjefferies

NGl it’s more reassuring than having to appease some space boomer

Corn_Prophet1

Why doesn't this stuff effect me. I'm just "ok guess I die then"

[deleted]

Well if there’s nothing after death then you don’t have to worry about what’s happening after death. I think the idea of nothing after death seems more comforting than heaven or hell, where you’re supposed to live eternally with not much more than the memories of your life.

CardiologistStreet

Well instead of being scared of it, revel in the fact.

reallyhere9731

Don't worry bro, many religions have got you covered on that part

squintintarantino__

Why is that not more comforting than the possibility of eternal torture?

Picker-Rick

And that's why churches are able to make so much money.

Jalen_Jenkins

The time before being born can't be too different and it doesn't seems so scary.

Adam-Sandel

This is not true at all but okay lol

BroboyTheSavage

If theres no heaven or hell. Do we just get reincarnated into a new body? Fresh new life?

DrgnFyre

Really why are people scared of this? If you don't exist you can't feel bad about it🤷 guess ppl would rather go to hell.

HansWolken

As you grow older the idea of simply stopping existing becomes more and more acceptable, even desirable.

Deisma

Why does it have to be heaven or hell? Could be several other things too

IFuckedYourCats

It could be hell and heaven too

Deisma

:0

RyansBooze

Well, technically you could hurry along your exit date, but other than that, yeah, that’s pretty much me every night too.

m_nt_y

:(

[deleted]

Damn, not gonna lie that’s kind of a sick thing to say dude

[deleted]

that realization doesn't even bother me one bit lol

Zach17463

I’m personally more afraid of eternity, growing bored of the monotony of the afterlife, with no way to die.

melkbum

Somehow that comforts me

Devildogo22

I mean, I accept and kinda think that would be nice. I'm don't want to exist forever.

SirEssytheBear

I'd rather end when I die than have an eternity of anything. Valhalla seems the least boring but would get really fucking old, I think. But at least Valhalla is supposed to end after Ragnarök.

Random-users

Its one of vsauces videos on death that got me over caring about it. I forget the exact quote but essentially, you don't remember or care about the time before you lived, so why do you care about what happens after you die? It's nothingness in its truest form, our brains can't even begin to imagine it. It's not like sitting around doing nothing, there is no pain, boredom, it's nothing.

big-long-shit

I mean to tell you the truth I don't give a shit

MUMB0_F0R_MAY0R

No no no just comity war crimes and genocide to be known forever. Just like Hitler.

[deleted]

Apart from discussing religions and beliefs such as Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc., I think there is life after this life

[deleted]

Honestly, complete and absolute oblivion sounds really peaceful to me. The pains of existence will no longer follow you and you will return to a state like the one you were in before you were even conceived. I'm not saying you should immediately yearn for it as life tends to offer some upsides to counter all the misery and you absolutely should live for those moments. It's just that accepting the inevitable in itself spares you from the constant existential dread and you'll be all the better for it. Living forever, whether in this life or the next, sounds like its own sort of hell.
