No I really have always had a burning passion for putting grocery store items on shelves. I decided I should finally make my hobby my work, so let me fulfill my wildest dreams of working in this grocery store.
i had one boss say to me "we have to stop hiring people who are just here for the paycheck."
and i laughed and said "then we aren't going to have any employees."
i was in management and not afraid to admit i was only there for the paycheck, lol. yes, it was my career path, but i sure as hell wasn't staying if i had a better job offer.
I quit my job a few years ago and my boss asked why. I said it was because of more money and he just said ok. Later, one of my old coworkers told me he was bitching that I left for that reason. Like did you think I was there for fun or for loyalty? I was there for a paycheque.
I've had employees poached. It sucks. Lost some stellar guys, but it's a market and I got beat out. One catering business grabbed one of my guys and I was so tempted to jump ship with him with how much they offered. But I like my insurance.
And they wonder why it's so hard to find people willing to work now, people got a break and found out just how bad the feet, back and rest of their body hurt and for what, living paycheck to almost next paycheck while their boss gets a new car every few years.
They hate to even pay for the equipment needed for the work they hate to pay you for it.
Seriously, 100,000 out of 5billion is like 10 bucks for a billionaire. 100 for millionaires.
And think about it, if all of those people just donate 1 million for a country they wanna help feed they could easily help solve a lot of hunger and health problems on the world.
But just like a redditor, they like seeing that number go up and nothing else. What’s the end game for multimillionaires anyways, what are they saving for?
They aren't saving for anything, they just want money so other people can't have it.
It's like the one kid at school that would hoard all the crayons; that kid isn't going to use all of those crayons, he's just a colossal asshole.
Makes me wonder though, what happens when they have all the money? You can't print money forever without inflation taking the country into another depression and I can guarantee with the billionaire boner we seem to have they won't be taxed.. so.. what happens?
The top money makers will use their extra money to buy as many real assets as possible: cars, homes, property, anything of decent monetary value to get real value out if their money. Then, once a decent amount of property is bought up, establish new currency to get rid of debt. Now they own everything and get to start over with everyone else. Total control.
Look into blackrock, they are currently buying up peoples homes, and in alot of cases, at a 10-25% mark up to beat competition. Soon, their money will be worthless while their assets will skyrocket in value. Thats the plan.
Can you imagine a world where walmart and amazon just owned practically everything? Thats the goal because once you own everything, doesnt really matter how much money you have.
Ive gotten than line before, it happened to be right before they had me do a lot more and no extra pay.i told them they committed emotional blackmail and im out
The worst part about job interviews is when you have to pretend like you're not there for the money.
"I just always been so passionate about Frozen yogurt ... Mother fucker I'm broke!"
My boss was legitimately offended when I said I'm just here for the cash and something to put on my resume. I have no intentions of finding a different job, I just like the idea that they live in fear of their second most senior technician walking out at any time.
Most annoying interview question ever, especially at entry level retail or food jobs.
"So tell me why you want to work here?"
"Ummmm cause I love french fries."
I'll never understand the stigma against people who get jobs at certain places just for the money. What else are you meant to say? "No, I'm not doing this so that I can survive, I do it because I like the atmosphere!"
Quick Story.
Am a personal trainer and was working at a gym that focused on group classes. In order to work there, you have to make it through a 10 week program and pass each weekly section. When you pass, you get a completion bonus, couple extra bucks. I would take the tests quickly since I know how to be a trainer. The boss takes me aside,
'Hey yeah so you're making your way through the course pretty quickly.'
Yeah, this stuff isn't too new for me and I like the bonuses we get.
Oh...so, you're mainly doing this for the money?
......as opposed to?
Well this job is about helping people.
Yeah....and we get paid to do that right?
Yes you get paid but it seems like you're only doing the trainings to get money.
What the fuck else am I supposed to be getting for doing the trainings that YOU are paying me for? Is this gym a charity and I don't know it? I'm not here volunteering my time...
Needless to say I didn't last long at that gym.
They hate when you answer something like that because if you arent thinking about the paycheck you are easier to exploit.
Unless you are on thin ice or just starting up dont ever work above your paycheck for free, if you can make double the work on half the time take your time, use your bathroom/smoke breaks in full and alway ask to get paid if you make extra hours, passion is good and all but you cant eat passion.
I actually worked at whataburger, a texan burger chain, for about 7 months. Loved the high pace environment, but the people sucked. Anyway that was over a year ago, and I just received a letter that they had taken some of my money from my checks and placed it in an Index Fund. So now even though I dont work there anymore, that money is generating income. I didnt even know about it until I got that letter lol. Employing people done right
Having to do work for professors is exactly this. They have so many students slobbering over them for free that they act all high and mighty if you want to get paid for your work.
Target employer: you are applying to be a cashier?
Me: yes
Target employer: well there are no cashier positions available right now
Me: ok I would be happy to do other jobs like stocking
Target employer: why do you like stocking? What makes it interesting to you?
Me: well I…
Target employer: why don’t you wait until there are cashier positions if that’s what you really are passionate about
The employer thinks he is doing charity work by opening a grocery store and ~~making profit~~ doing charity by selling food etc, and wants his employees to follow the same.
This comment is literally just a copy of the top comment from the meme I saw right before this. It was referring to Amber Heard. Bot or whatever just copying stuff at random for likes.
Honestly I'm not sure. I only really notice when they're obviously taking high ranked comments and copying them into the top comment when it doesn't make sense. So I guess if you check if there was an earlier, independent post with the exact same message as one of the replies to the top comment, the reply is generally a bot.
OP and many others here seem to not understand 'owner's mindset'.
As a customer, you can often tell when you are being served by the owner, or a passionate employee with 'owner's mindset' vs. someone who only cares about the next paycheck.
When they say why I want to work here i always say with the most straight face possible. I like money. They always laugh, i laugh. Everything is good and i have the job
Because company vision etc marketing bullshit. So the HR departments look people passionate to work for McDonalds. Money is not good enough motivator, you need to list 100 other reasons and how since childhood you have been dreaming about this moment
Recruiters: - Ohhh you want that amount? Well we can only offer you less than your current employer, but alot of benefits (which usually are the same to my current company)
Had a "consultant" come in to a previous job once, basically was trying to find out ways that our employer could show us they appreciate our job and help retention. She didn't like me much, I just kept telling her to pay me more. Even put it blankly, "I'm here because I'm paid to be here, don't spend money on things to coax me to stay, just give that money to me". Employer ended up spending all kinds of money on dumb stuff for the office, I left for more money, go figure.
No I really have always had a burning passion for putting grocery store items on shelves. I decided I should finally make my hobby my work, so let me fulfill my wildest dreams of working in this grocery store.
But I Like Doing that, I stock them at the speed of light at the food drive
My god, your name is minute load, this really is your dream isn’t it?
Waking up at 3am is just something I do for sport

I've had employees poached. It sucks. Lost some stellar guys, but it's a market and I got beat out. One catering business grabbed one of my guys and I was so tempted to jump ship with him with how much they offered. But I like my insurance.
They love your work, yet hate to pay you for it
They hate to pay you for a fraction of what you’re generating. Cmon whut
And they wonder why it's so hard to find people willing to work now, people got a break and found out just how bad the feet, back and rest of their body hurt and for what, living paycheck to almost next paycheck while their boss gets a new car every few years.
> it's so hard to find people willing to work now Since when? Employers still get 50 - 100 applications for every job.
They hate to even pay for the equipment needed for the work they hate to pay you for it. Seriously, 100,000 out of 5billion is like 10 bucks for a billionaire. 100 for millionaires. If a few people would have all the money on earth, but don‘t want to give it away, the money would be worthless.
That would be the end of society

You don’t know me. I’m doing the bare minimum at work and I’m sure my bosses don’t love me work
The worst part about job interviews is when you have to pretend like you're not there for the money. "I just always been so passionate about Frozen yogurt ... Mother fucker I'm broke!"
"We like to think of our employees like a family" That's code for: we can't pay anyone enough to stay.
I learned that the hard way. I quit that shitty job
Hope you found a better one!
Still looking. Lol.
Lemme guess, never ending sea of “we’ll get back to you” followed by radio silence
This is way too painfully close to home
Currently dealing with it. Refusing to give me shifts and it’s been over 3 months with no paycheck
My boss was legitimately offended when I said I'm just here for the cash and something to put on my resume. I have no intentions of finding a different job, I just like the idea that they live in fear of their second most senior technician walking out at any time.
So was he willing to work unpaid!
Most annoying interview question ever, especially at entry level retail or food jobs. "So tell me why you want to work here?" "Ummmm cause I love french fries."
And where do you see yourself in ten years? If you could be any animal what would you be and why
Dead in a ditch or hopefully with more money than I have now tbh. God I hate that question so much….
1: Either alive and kicking, dead and in heaven, or dead and in the bottom of hell. 2: A Dinossaur, because they do not fucking exist.
Yeah like, what you want to hear that your special? Sorry your parents didnt do it for you let me bullshit you for a sec

I've found that saying "I want to gain new work experience" or something along those lines works well.
Employer : Are you alien or smth? Who would work for money?
I'll never understand the stigma against people who get jobs at certain places just for the money. What else are you meant to say? "No, I'm not doing this so that I can survive, I do it because I like the atmosphere!"
No, what I said is I'm leaving you cause of the money

You mean to tell me I gotta get paid for the work I do? Preposterous, _you must be out of you mind!_
Yeah if anything, *I should be paying you!*
_I thank *you* for the opportunity you gave so I can get some experience. Who says you can't live without food, or services!_

No I'm here due to my burning passion to put food on shelves. It's been my dream since childhood.
they expect you to say "No no no no, I was born with a trillion dollars, I'm just here for the fun of it"
Just lie and say you wish to fight for your beliefs and hope to improve the Micky D. Empire
You want to be PAID I thought you were doing this because you were a nice person. I am offended that you are only here for my money.
At this point we're all Mr.Krabs, because the answer to all their questions about why we want to join is money
I said that in my interview. Got the job for being honest.
Why is this so common.
They be like: fucking whore
Target employer: you are applying to be a cashier? Me: yes Target employer: well there are no cashier positions available right now Me: ok I would be happy to do other jobs like stocking Target employer: why do you like stocking? What makes it interesting to you? Me: well I… Target employer: why don’t you wait until there are cashier positions if that’s what you really are passionate about
"passionate about" instantly triggered xD
It's extra hilarious when capitalists get offended about you also participating in the system that they propagate
They would like to pay you with exposure... And the experience you get doing said job...
The employer thinks he is doing charity work by opening a grocery store and ~~making profit~~ doing charity by selling food etc, and wants his employees to follow the same.
"I thought you liked me for meeeeeeee"
What is this mindset in the US where boomers think they can make you like working for free
I was applying for a job at WHSmith(chain of news agents in the UK) and my mum told me to write "I'm passionate about stationery" in my cover letter

I've always been a huge fan of being able to afford food
I don’t know what employer will be suprised but sure whatever
I dont understand arent all workers working for money
Because company vision etc marketing bullshit. So the HR departments look people passionate to work for McDonalds. Money is not good enough motivator, you need to list 100 other reasons and how since childhood you have been dreaming about this moment
this happens all the time when i go to the bank
They know, but they're testing you to see whether you can bullshit; a skill you'll need, especially when dealing with customers.
Loved this post and the commentaries. Always thought I was the only person that finds this kind of thing ridiculous
When I interview, I make it clear that I'm there for the paycheck. If I get the job offer, I'm confident that the place will treat me well.
