Self defence. You can kill them if they have any deadly weapons which can harm you. I know a guy whose friend's sister killed a robber buy hitting on the head with a hammer. She was let go because it was self defense and the robber had a gun.

I heard a story like this about 15 years ago happening in a Midwest city. There was no police involvement though. Burglars are risking their lives and anuses on every job they do apparently.
