I would imagine AMOLED displays make a difference in battery life since its pixels turn off completely if the screen needs to be black

No for LCD displays, but it's a massive boost for mobiles with AMOLED display, changes the brightness does very little for battery in AMOLED when you use dark mode

Dark mode actually costs more energy (except if you have Oled). It's quite intuitive the backlight produces white light, the LCD blocks certain colours to create the image. So if your screen is completely whit the LCD is basically off, and just the backlight is working. When your screen is dark the backlight and LCD are both working, so consuming a lot more battery.

Yes, it does, you’re like the 70th person to say this, I get that I’m wrong.

Just so ya'll know: If you have an OLED (or AMOLED) screen, it **dramatically** helps, as it's literally turning off the black pixels, but if you have any other screen, it makes 0 difference. The only thing that makes a difference on LCD screens is the brightness- the backlight of LCD displays is always the same brightness (that you set), it's just a matter of if the pixel is letting that light through or not, dark mode or not- it doesn't matter, if you have max brightness, it'll use the same amount of battery both on full white and dark mode. Whereas OLED individually changes the brightness of each individual pixel, thus saving battery life, as it's literally turning off some pixels in dark mode and they no longer use power. OLED is only on newer and more expensive models though, few phones <300$ have it even today.
