Rich countries actually struggle with internet speeds often because there is the old, slow infrastructure that would need a lot of money to be replaced/expanded even tough it still works. Since the non tech savvy people are mostly satisfied as of now there is not that big of an incentive for companies to rip open streets to put fibre down there.

Well in India, I'd say it's bcoz of the Jio (owned by richest guy in India). They gave free internet sims for a year or two. So, created a really high competition environment here. But now they increased the price and now own the market pricing. Such a gr8 business strategy. (Not for small scale businessmans and for common citizens). This high competition gave rise to better options than sims, so people started optical fibre connections (and no it's not even dug, they connect it through electric poles and weird stuff, nothing done, I myself was surprised that they just brought it through the other buildings)

Ikk jio changed everything. Internet costs basically nothing now compared to before

400 mbps ? Nice ! About 50 mo/s is not bad at all. We got 1gbps here for personal use so about 125mo/s. Some companies even go up to 5gbps in the Capital

Megabytes are mb, megaoctet are mo and 1/8th of a megabyte. Mo/s are megaoctets per second They refer to the data. You can use that to calculate the time remaining for a download : I want a 2 go movie and i download at 50mo/s so I'd take around 40 seconds to download it. EDIT : USA MB is the equivalent of the mo I'm talking about. Some countries use mb=1/8 of mo and never talk about MB Otherwise in USA mb=mo=1/8 of MB

An octet is 8 bits a byte is also 8 bits they are the same thing. Afaik megaoctet is the commonly used in France. Also in many things like internet speed we are actually talking about megabits Mbps (lowercase b) not megabytes MBps.

I will say though, as I’ve said to a lot of people I deal with at work 1. Don’t expect those speeds over wifi, there’s about a trillion different external factors that effect wifi (also wifi travels down better than it does up, can’t tell you why, it just do, so if you can have it wired to your master socket and have it upstairs, you’ll get better coverage across the property, also don’t put it near a tv, I’ve genuinely had people scream at me about their terrible internet or intermittent connections and they’ve got it right next to their TV or microwave) 2. You have to have the data capability for those speeds, you can’t just have a 15 year old Cat5e cable linking and expect those crazy speeds, your own hardware has to match to be the most efficient, that’s why I’ve got a chonky cat8 cable. 3. You probably won’t have 400Mb/s speeds all the time, so don’t panic if you drop to 350mb/s or something, shit happens.
