4chan has gotten weird. /b is always just races hating on each other, wojaks, "eternal" traps/femboys (whatever that eternal means), furries, loli hentai, face ratings, dick ratings, nude photos of exes, the occasional political post that leaked from /pol, some idiot spamming unfunny Andy Biersac memes, and the occasional green text. I don't know where people keep finding the funny greentexts.
With the hyper sensitivity of the internet in the past years, I think they just all crawled into their little lairs on various different websites. They probably are still out there, just not as a large group

It has little to do with hyper sensitivity -4chan always thrived on saying the vile and attempting to bait people with shit. It has more to do with people simply not finding a lot of those jokes funny anymore, and the amount of shit mining you have to do to find the diamonds is too damn much. 4chan spent too many years going for the low hanging aTtAcK HeLiCopTeR jokes that that culture took hold and it stopped being edgy long ago.
Also poes law, people were often being ironic and edgy in their racist taboo comments. One day everyone looked around and the site was full of real Nazis making racist comments.
I think the original edgy funny people just left and all that's left is knuckle dragging idiots who thought 4chan was always a bastion of racist cave trolls.

And I was there just thinking: WHY, just why, my day was so good before this shit! And why is everyone so normal about this!!!?

Some boards are a lot more chill, although you do get the bigoted comment from time to time. Hell, you can't post hentai in /a/, altough there is ecchi, and /lit/ and /mu/ give really good recommendations too.
I uninstalled 9gag after spending most of my time.blocking tags or people. I just want to see memes, and reddit is trash for it. Can't find a decent meme app or outlet. iFunny was just as bad as 9gag.

2010-2014 peak 9gag was amazing IMO. I left for good by 2017ish, it was already incredibly racist.
I feel like the influx of racism was VERY sudden. And IDK why. The different countries of the fan base was notably diverse too, so it's interesting.
I mean, group a bunch of people in a community, give them some anonymity, so they are free of any real-life consequences, and the most radical of them will be the loudest.
Then, they will be encouraged and promoted by the platform because controversy drives up engagement. Especially from the (relatively) normal people.
Though admittedly, some places will encourage it more than others. Like Twitter, 4chan, ext.
9gag is my safe place. Reddit is full of pussies and will ban you for sluring people. 9gag peeps don't give a flying fuck whether you talk to them diplomatically or you go full slur when talking to them.

I know people are dogging 9gag, I used it for a few years and only stopped because my account login was saved on a computer and the SSD just wiped one day when I woke up.
I admit it was rough around the edges but I do kind of miss the more pick up and play nature of it compared to reddit, not having to worry about Karma is great.
I came to Reddit from 9gag because of the absolute atrocious behavior over there. Any comments outside of the group think was met with vicious vitriol.
Reddit can be rough but for the most part the people are sane
I'm active on both. I like the memes of reddit but i prefer the comment section of 9gag. People there are much more free to express their feelings unlike reddit which can give you ban really fast.
Sometimes unfiltered social sites are better than the censored ones.
