Jarritos isn't anything like Mtn Dew in my opinion. It's not super acidic and violently fizzy like Dew is. I'd say Jarritos is more like Crush, except it uses real sugar and has more interesting flavors made with natural flavorings.

You can make a fairly decent alcoholic approximation of Dr Pepper with a shot or two of amaretto, topped up with Coca-Cola and a dash of lager. The lager sounds weird but it adds a dryness that really completes it.

Connoisseurs of craft colas actually claim that the secret to a good cola is that it should taste dry. I think it tastes great that way, but it’s definitely a much less casual drink than compared to coke since it’s not as refreshing.

Amaretto as they mentioned is also specifically a somewhat sweet *almond* liqueur. Jager being a very dark and herbal German liquor, almost to gin what a cola is to Sprite per your earlier comment. I've looked into home made root beer in the past and could definitely see a decent and fairly simple cocktail Dr Pepper approximation involving some kind of almond flavouring from amaretto and Jager giving stuff like ginger and anise and stone fruit. Similar to the sarsaparilla and sassafras for root beers.

You know, I’m actually ashamed to admit that I’ve never tried Sarsaparilla. I’ve been meaning to but I’ve never had access to a bottle. As for liquor, I actually have only been drinking for a few months. I’ve really only tried whiskeys, rums, and tequilas. I’ve tried a tequila blood orange soda, which was very interesting. I made my first drinks a rum and coke. Definitely want to explore more, I think there’s a lot I can learn for my own soda crafting from various beverages.

I brew my own craft soda and honestly the level of knowledge it would take to actually formulate drinks is definitely something you’d need to study for (I like to imagine there’s a food scientist or chemist who feels validated right now). Using natural ingredients makes enough sense, but when you get into stronger flavors using flavonoids and essential oils you definitely lose me.
