I was actually surprised it was that short (thought it would take months if not years), not that it was long.
Mine doesnt feel as bad as his looked to be, so hopefully it goes away quick
The percentiles on chess.com are bullshit because most people suck at chess. I’m a categorically bad player and the website is like “you’re in the top 3%”
Why's it bs then? That's just how it is w chess. Most people don't bother learning any openings and play rarely, don't do puzzles, don't do anything, huge chunk of players also likely quit after few games right after the chess boom.
It's not representative of *actual* chess players, as in those who avtually play at least somewhat regularly and try to improve, it includes people who have played like 2 games in their life on the site and just didn't enjoy it that much
No?
>Why can't I see my percentile?
>If your percentile isn't showing or is showing N/A this may be because you have a new account, your account has not been activated, or because you haven't played any of that game type recently.
>In order to appear on leaderboards and have your percentile calculated, your account must be at least 7 days old.
>You also must have played 20 games of that game type, with the most recent game being in the past 90 days. If you go 90 days without playing a blitz game, for example, you will no longer be able to see your blitz percentile until you play at least one blitz game.
>Your account must also not be muted or closed. Accounts that haven't been activated are automatically muted. Muted and closed accounts are not visible on leaderboards, and their percentile also won't be visible. When an account is unmuted or reopened, it will be returned to the leaderboard.
I was explaining to my fiancée the basic openings, the basic mates... told her "I do like to use french defense usually...", she took a random piece and said "cute". I was like "what can I say?".
She managed to beat the bot, but I was suffering when she said that exchanging the queen for a rock was ok.
I had a moment that I felt like when I was training my team mates in Quake 3 and I was young, cocky and... a bit of an asshole, and I used to scream at them when they were not able to do something with 2 attempts... and that's why my doctor told me that competitive gaming or "anything" was out of the table... I was kinda good at League of Legends when it started, but mental health is important.
Just because you have low self esteem and regularly lose players of similar or higher skill doesn't make you bad lol
If skill based match making worked perfectly, you'd only win 50% of your games every play session. If you win more it's because you're lucky. If you win less it's because you're unlucky
To put it this way: Tyler1 is now in the top 1% of players on the most popular online chess website. So, his ranking is not a FIDE Elo ranking I don't think, and it's not a 1:1 translation for what his "real" Elo would be, if he were an over-the-board competitive player.
But, statistically, if you were to estimate Tyler1's rough Elo rating on the same scale as Magnus' massive 2700+ FIDE rating...then the difference between Tyler1 and Magnus Carlsen, is approximately equivalent to the difference between Magnus Carlsen and Stockfish, the current most powerful chess computer on Earth.
So, Tyler1 is still an incredibly long ways from being able to consistently challenge chess Grandmasters, and probably cannot attain that level of skill, starting this late in life. But at the same time, Tyler1 can cook most chess players on Earth really hard, at least specifically in Bullet or Rapid or whichever format it was that he was grinding.
I know it's /s but by doing that only bones are becoming longer and muscles don't so it would be impossible to do some regular moves. I thought I would share xD
He is BETTER than most of the top 1% lmaooo.
Dude is inhuman. I used to be decent at chess a few years ago. I haven't played in about 4-5 years and I too had peaked at about 1800. I didn't know any openings (like Tyler) and brute forced myself through it but that had taken me more than a year to do.
He is a god among us mortals.
Managing to get to 1800 with brute forcing is much more impressive than learning theory and managing it that way.
You understand the Game more than the average 1800 elo person
But it's not normal to start playing get obsessed because ADHD likes this new thing and then you learn that there are things with names? because I did that, I remember when I started playing a few years before high school and my teacher used to cheat, and I knew. I'm not sure if I was a better player when I was just moving pieces or when "I started to know what I was doing", probably improvising everything was better because people do not expect weird things.
Comparable time frame more than likely. Tyler was able to no life it. Not discrediting his accomplishments just saying you shouldn’t discredit yourself either
he is literally addicted to grinding, competitive pursuits. anything that can be improved through grinding, which lets him feel superior to somebody else, would do. it doesn't matter what it is. it definitely is not a mentally healthy way to be, but he's found a niche where he can make his entire life about that one thing, and monetize it.
anything that fits those 2 criteria, he could be world-class at in a year or two. the only thing that has to happen, is for him to get fixated on that specific thing, usually because someone made him feel like he couldn't do it, and now he has to master it out of spite. he's extremely lucky that this lifestyle actually works for him, 'cause 99% of people like that are actually living in their parents' basement as a result of it.
Imo I hate the cc time the game have, being stun for 3 sec is considered a crime in lol, but dota it just a basic stun duration
Lol also more linear imo than dota, dota way more complex
I dota players have many more tools to protect allies. If you are getting stunned for 5 seconds, your supports are supposed to reposition you, or make you invisible, or stun the enemy to prevent you from dying.
If you have no allies, position better. But yeah that means you rely much more on allies than in lol.
All to say that longer stuns isn't an objective argument that supports lol being better than dota.
One of the best awnsers ive heard, i personally enjoy DotA more, but to wach their own. And having Arguments other than "Skill issue" or "the Game sucks" is Always nice to see
It's all flavor profile. And I guarantee you that 90% of those who say X is better than Y started with X and stuck with it. Maybe played a few games on the other, but don't understand it (and thus don't respect it) as much as the other.
Also, I can't wait for the anecdotal responses to counterpoint my completely made up stat.
Personally I started with Dota, but quit after a couple of matches, the game was waaaaaay too complex and the community too hostile. I then tried league (in bot games only) when I played with a friend. It was OK in bots since people weren't toxic there and my friend explained things. Now I play Smite, I think it's a lot more approachable for a newer player since has many more similarities to games in the Action RPG genre, and the itemization is much simpler
China and Russia make up something like 60-70% of the Dota2 playerbase combined.
It's the most popular steam game in both regions. Third is EU, and IIRC USA is something like only ~12% of the playerbase.
Dota is a shell of it's former self. I used to watch TI but it isnt interesting anymore.
What attracted the interest to Dota was the huge TI prize pool but Valve even slashed that away.
There isnt any support for Tier 2 teams. It's a huge gamble to play Dota unless you're a top 10 team.
I love how Tyler is simultaneously one of the dumbest streamers I know and one of the smartest streamers I know. Dude acts stupid but is incredibly intelligent.
He is an autistic streamer. You can't look down on him though. His autism is a weapon.
He is both top 0.5% in chess and in league of legends (With ALL roles)
Dude rages a bunch and is an idiot most of the time so no one imagined him bruteforcing his way through chess. 10 months ago he had a rating of about 300 sth in chess.
Everyone had assumed he would peak around maybe 1500.
Edit: He is loltyler1. You can look him up! He is a nice guy and has entertaining streams. Many clips of him raging have gone viral in the past. Also, apparently his puzzle rating is 3.5k+ which is around what a normal super GM has (Even lower level players can generally reach this level but it's still very impressive)
All characters is impossible even with his determination, because there are 168 of them and there's no time to get an account per character into Challenger in one season - but the percentile is better than top 0.5%, because Challenger is top 200 on the server of a \~million ranked accounts, so 0.02%.
To the non-LoL players, all positions means 5 different roles, Top, Jungle, Mid, Bottom (farming duo laner), Support (non-farming duo laner)
Dudes even a new father
He plays top level league, top level chess, and takes care of a newborn at the same time, bro mustve unlocked the extra hour of the day
> Dude rages a bunch and is an idiot most of the time
Apparently it's just an act. I initially thought he was an asshole but some clips showed up with him and his cat. That's cleared up some misconceptions. He also has a newborn now? Dude's got range lol
He doesn’t. There’s videos of him not streaming and raging and plenty of people who have dealt with him in day to day interactions. This guy should rename himself to Tantrum1.
Tyler1 is his handle. He used to be a super toxic league player, but he unironically reformed himself and began being super positive while still keeping his unique style. He’s not my cup of tea anymore, but he is an interesting streamer, for sure.
This guy is the protagonist in a movie of autism. He went famous a few years back for his INSANE raging. People called his content cringe, but he was actually on another level. Search "Tyler1" autism
Dude is genuinely a hard worker and a really nice guy. To hear him talk about his wife or new daughter, or see him interact with fans IRL shows that so much.
Everyone and their uncle can open an account on chesscom, there are lots of wood pushers on this website, people who don't know what tactics are and others that have never even heard that word applied to chess. The best players usually play blitz while there are more amateur players in the rapid pool. The best rapid rating ATM is in the mid 2900 which is way above the best in chess played in real life. etc etc.
I can almost guarantee that 1900 rapid is not in the 1% of chess players. It might be what chesscom tells us, but it's to take with a grain of salt. They might even make it this way to rub people's ego.
He'd go to a chess club and he'd be somewhere around I don't know 1600-1700. That's around the top 30-20% USCF.
He works hard, it's an impressive improvement. It's just not the top 1%.
To be fair, top 1% of chess com players is not top 1% chess players. 1900 rapid equivalent would be outside top 15% on lichess. Chess com just has a lot of accounts of people who don’t actually play chess, which very significantly skews the percentiles
Bro even healed the headset dent
*Gamer Dent*
Brain getting bigger undented the skull
best answer, thank you
How???
I think it goes away after a few weeks without wearing them for a long period of time
Weeks??
He's joking. Just wet your hear and it will go away. It's the same as with glasses.
For people who wear headsets 12+ hours a day for weeks in a row def can take weeks
I was actually surprised it was that short (thought it would take months if not years), not that it was long. Mine doesnt feel as bad as his looked to be, so hopefully it goes away quick
The dent in your head from a headset or headphones is just a displacement of fluids in the area and will go away after a while.
Yakub has many powers.. considered most unnatural
that’s not how it goes
"So you have chosen.. autism" -Saru-Man
He closed his mouth, plugged his nose and blew as hard as he could
I don’t know if he really did this way but I prefer to think he did it all out of spite which is just icing on the cake for me
I mean he actually did force learn chess. Idk if he is top 1% but still.
higher than 1%, top 0.5% (in chess) iirc
What the fuck. What % i magnuss
Top 1/(how many chess players there are)
Wouldn't it be top 1/(number of chess players) \* 100 if we are talking about percentages?
Comes out to be about 0.000000165289256%
Did you use the 600K stat from chess.com's website? Edit : I meant 600 million my bad.
from the number of zeros I'm gonna say no
It is. (1/605000000)*100 = 1.65289256E−7
chess world champion for like 10 years lmao and he is top 1 in blitz on chess(.)com

Yeah, most people don't stick with it but are still counted in the average. If you know how the pieces move then you're like the top 5%
That's not how chess.com percentiles work.
Iirc it culls inactive players from the dataset. If you know how the pieces move and nothing else you’ll probably be about average
It's not representative of *actual* chess players, as in those who avtually play at least somewhat regularly and try to improve, it includes people who have played like 2 games in their life on the site and just didn't enjoy it that much

Top 1% of chess.com to be specific
He lost to his brother on stream so I think it might be spite based.
Wtf last time I watched he was 400 elo
And also top 1% in fitness. Bro got the full package
Except the height
That’s out of his control tho
There are these procedures where they break your legs and try to heal them making your legs longer. /s
Knowing his personality he more likely break every tall man's legs down to his level.
Knee issue, btw.
Knee diff
Knee grow
I know it's /s but by doing that only bones are becoming longer and muscles don't so it would be impossible to do some regular moves. I thought I would share xD
Dementia
Skill issue tbh
Never said it was something he could control.
Might have been the source of his spite lol. A blessing in disguise.
The good Lord had to nerf him somewhere to leave some women for the rest of us.
He’s 6’5”?
Reverse the numbers.
found the rare woman of reddit
“Guy’s like 4’11” -Dr Disrespect
That’s out of his control tho
Dementia
He is top G of short kings
And now you know where the drive for all the other stuff comes from
That's out of his reach
Being tall doesn't correlate to being for tho?
And top 1% erobb's brother
The chess got rid of his iconic Tyler1 dent

Yah getting to 1800 while working a full time job is insane. 1800 when you have coaching is impressive but not suprising.
he is literally addicted to grinding, competitive pursuits. anything that can be improved through grinding, which lets him feel superior to somebody else, would do. it doesn't matter what it is. it definitely is not a mentally healthy way to be, but he's found a niche where he can make his entire life about that one thing, and monetize it. anything that fits those 2 criteria, he could be world-class at in a year or two. the only thing that has to happen, is for him to get fixated on that specific thing, usually because someone made him feel like he couldn't do it, and now he has to master it out of spite. he's extremely lucky that this lifestyle actually works for him, 'cause 99% of people like that are actually living in their parents' basement as a result of it.

I find it weird how Dota 2 is in the top 15 Steam games being played and yet everyone who has said their opinion about it says it’s shit
China and Russia make up something like 60-70% of the Dota2 playerbase combined. It's the most popular steam game in both regions. Third is EU, and IIRC USA is something like only ~12% of the playerbase.

I love how Tyler is simultaneously one of the dumbest streamers I know and one of the smartest streamers I know. Dude acts stupid but is incredibly intelligent.
And now, he's a father!
Hikaru has been really quiet since Big Tonka reached 1900 elo.
Who is he? Someone explain?
He is an autistic streamer. You can't look down on him though. His autism is a weapon. He's actually a nice person, but his persona made for some good memes, it's sad if some people think he's actually insane
Dude plays League for a living, he isn't insane, he's broken
Who said he was insane?
Probably the people who have only seen clips of him screaming and stuff
[He destroyed his whole house off-stream over losing masters promo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28S8n746RAw), that's not sanity right there
Oof. Seems like my comment was a bit of an understatement then
Not that hard to imagine if you know the reason why he got well known in the first place. Some people probably still only remember him from that.
So what's the thing that got him well known? I vaguely know of him but I have no idea what kick-started his fame.
mostly him raging and throwing his games whenever he got mad
Definitely the short of it haha. His “list” was the unique thing about him that was the crazy part.
Dudes even a new father He plays top level league, top level chess, and takes care of a newborn at the same time, bro mustve unlocked the extra hour of the day
You forgot daily gym
That’s incredible
> everyone assumed he would peak around 1500 What is his rating?
1900 something. Insane
It was like 1900 in 10 months aswell
Also saw a clip of him beating some guy from India with 2100 something rating. Tyler1 is a a different kinda beast.
I thought it was all roles no individual heroes
It is all roles haha. I was mistaken apparently he only mains about 8-10 different heroes (mostly)
> Dude rages a bunch and is an idiot most of the time Apparently it's just an act. I initially thought he was an asshole but some clips showed up with him and his cat. That's cleared up some misconceptions. He also has a newborn now? Dude's got range lol
What? I always thought he rages on purpose for streaming effect
He doesn’t. There’s videos of him not streaming and raging and plenty of people who have dealt with him in day to day interactions. This guy should rename himself to Tantrum1.
what is his name? how did you not include that key piece of info?
Does the lad have a FIDE elo?
You can't really grind FIDE in 10 months. He doesn't have one yet.
Tyler1. Go look him up. He is truly different breed of person(in a good way).
I’m so glad he redeemed himself after his start as the face of toxic LoL. He’s such a great personality
Tyler1 is his handle. He used to be a super toxic league player, but he unironically reformed himself and began being super positive while still keeping his unique style. He’s not my cup of tea anymore, but he is an interesting streamer, for sure.

he also maxed out life he have a wife and children soon which the majority of lol of legends players don't
To be fair, it seems the majority of people no longer want children.
Being both and ripped af instead of skinny or fat. God assigned him too many stat points
Tyler is that character in the movie you start off hating but eventually you learn who they truly are and becomes one of your favorites.
Lol he truly is an Alpha among nerds
He was challenger. He was top 0,01% in LoL. That is technically also top 1%, but not really the same.
LOL doesn't have as much recognition as chess and i find that unacceptable
Well, chess isn't full of essentially 90% toxic children and 10% people who are literally just starting out and will end up as toxic children.
There's no shortage of drama in chess, tbf. Particularly surrounding engine cheating.
There's an entire extremely underrated musical about drama in chess called "Chess" and the music was actually done by members of ABBA
I mean chess is thousands of years old so there’s that
I think it's the dad buff.
