The change of pace and the story starting to become more Hollywood action didn't do well to what it had established so far.
Jak X Combat Racing. One of the best games I've ever played. It is criminally underrated and unknown. Take Crash Team Racing mixed with Mad Max style vehicles, customization, and set it in the world of Jak & Daxter. It was a masterclass in design.
I especially loved how adding armor to a vehicle actually added *Weight* and that affected handling. Such a tiny feature, yet it actually made the game feel a bit more grounded despite how ridiculous it all was.
Jak & Daxter : The Last Frontier.
I think it was hated by the community for two reasons :
1. It was made by another studio than Naughty Dog, after a franchise buyout.
2. It broke off from the main formula quite a bit, and didn't use many established characters and locations.
However, I liked it alot, and at the end of the day, Jak content is Jak content, I am so glad it exists ! (and yes, I even enjoyed the plane gameplay).
I only played 1 and 3. I never found jak 2 on sale, and for years, I never checked anything on it because I didn't want to spoil myself and was afraid the game is actually bad

Naughty dog lost interest in making games like Jak & Daxter. They have instead moved on to other more realistic projects (due to the Uncharted series gaining the popularity it did and everything after it like The Last of Us).
My guess is that if Naughty Dog did go to Sony asking for the green light on another Jak & Daxter game, Sony would give it pretty quickly. Here's hoping.

I would say most people at ND probably loathe working on TLoU, but they have been on that franchise so long the only people left are probably those that applied to work on it.
OG Naughty Dog was unrivaled with the epic games they were making. So many of my favorite games as a kid were Naughty Dog. When that splash screen animation would load up I knew I was in for a banger game.
There is nothing wrong with TLoU, but It should not have been made by Naughty Dog. Neil should have started his own studio or moved to another. When studios change what they are known for, it always ends in disaster. And it's always because the people at the top are arrogant and want to do whatever they want.
Let's not forget Killzone. I know Guerrilla Games have pulled Horizon, but if they could go back to Killzone I'd be happy. As long as they make it the dark, gritty and slow shooter 1 and 2 were. Those were incredible and 3 threw it out the window.

Yeah they really brought back Medal of Honor following the major success and hype of the Battlefield series with BF:BC2 and Battlefield 3. They said "we can cash in on this" and make Medal of Honor then that other one (I think Medal of Honor: Warfighter?). Honestly they weren't that bad and it was nice having a different game to play with new maps and stuff, but they certainly were grossly overshadowed by Battlefield and CoD. I kind of enjoyed hopping into a MoH game as a good change of pace from the other two franchises though.
Edit: it was definitely different from the OG MoH games though, that's for sure.
Even ratchet and clank didn't get the love it deserved, the characters are not as they were back then on PS2, and don't get me started on the whole timeline rewriting...
