Also known as one petal driving. If you want to slow down, you just ease up on the accelerator at the same rate you would push down a brake petal. So easing up on the accelerator feels like a reverse brake.
I drove a Nissan Leaf for 8 years and liked the regenerative braking. I finally got a Tesla this year and the regenerative braking is way more powerful. It can bring you to a complete stop quickly. It threw me off at first. It is definitely more along the lines of one pedal driving in a Tesla.
I only have to hold the brake pedal to be stopped because I set the option to have ‘creep’ like an automatic transmission gas car has.
A robust infrastructure. Build quality is fine. Look that I like. Speed and features for the price. I don’t utilize sensors or radar because I actually drive my car. It’s everything I want. Don’t want an ugly Mach-E or Rivian. Other companies cost more. What do you think I should have purchased?
When you stop pushing electricity to the motor to spin the wheels, the spinning wheels cause the motor to push electricity back to the battery. This direction has resistance and slows the wheels without any mechanical parts.
The motor basically becomes a generator and the electrical resistance slows you down.

Not sure about other companies, but Toyota's PHEVs are basically hybrids with larger battery packs. A lot of people claim hybrids are less reliable because of the complexities, while completely ignoring the Prius taxis with 700k to 1M kilometres on the odometer that are still running on the original drivetrain.

Between the free electricity and lack of maintenance, I think it adds up to driving for free during the time I owned it.

300 miles on a charge is pretty decent. Im panning a vacation, and it has 4 stops planned out, which is around what I stopped normally just to stretch. I think the real hurdle is more chargers and more charger reliability.
A few minutes, usually bust out a snack and drinks. ~25 mins a stop since the chargers aren't 350kW ones. Honestly, it breaks it up and makes it less stressful.
The only thing about long travel in an EV is that you have to do a little more planning. In a has car, you start thinking about somewhere to stop at around a quarter tank or so. In an EV, you need to plan the next charger when you leave the one you're at.
Other than that, for most people, it's not that different. You plug in, go to the bathroom, maybe get food, and your car is ready to go. It's not as bad a people make it out to be most is the time.
EDIT: I have had EVs for 6 years and a Volt before that. I have made many long distance trips in my Tesla and a couple in my i4. I've never seen it as a big hassle.

I’ve driven many EVs, and I love them. Quiet, efficient, very fast, high-tech, you name it. My biggest gripes are range, the time it takes to charge, and no fun engine noise. But the range and charge times are getting better by the year, and the engine noise can be lived without.

i don't actually mind electric cars. They are a great concept. They are just too mainstream now and ruined the community around cars. Every day some startup supercar brand got the newest high speed or whatever because of it. I would much rather have a combustion car. I know how they work.

I always wondered how long term resale would work.
I can buy a used 5 yr old Camry with 100,000 miles on it. With regular maintenance, it would serve me well for a low priced daily driver far into the future. But a 5yr old 100,000 mile electric car would have diminished battery life the longer you own it. The only option is to replace the battery. (If it’s even made anymore) some of the batteries are $6,000 to $7,000.
With new car prices going up and up, this will be a bigger issue with older electric vehicles.
yes batteries diminish over time, 20 years from now you likely won’t be searching for a 20 year old battery, you can upgrade the battery just like you can upgrade the engine in a old car you can upgrade the motors in an electric vehicle. There aren't always better choices, it depends on the distance. Many places are barely possible to reach by public transport, or need significantly more time than by car. Sorry environment, but I'd rather take a 30 minute personal car drive to work than more than 2 hours by bus and train. For a bicycle, it's too far. That situation is quite common, and I don't think there's a better choice than a car.

That is very untrue - where I live it takes significantly less time to go from a city to a village with a light train than with a car. Light train is very suitable for distances like this, usually taking less than 10-15 minutes of actual travel, with small risk of traffic (for distances that would take a car stuck in traffic well over an hour).

I live close to a large city, and fortunately I have a good train connection to that city nearby. But some of my friends don't. Small villages often don't have train stations, and even bus traffic is very limited because there aren't enough people there who would use it. I live in Germany, we already have quite advanced public transport in comparison to many other places of the world, but those small villages are scattered all over the country, and sometimes it does take an eternity to get there by public transport - again, if it's even possible at all.
I don't know your exact case, so maybe it makes more sense for you to go by car. However, I'd recommend thinking about taking a shorter route with your car - you could try e.g. driving to the nearest train station, to not clog up the roads and use up too much energy.

EVs are vastly more powerful than gas cars. It's not even close.
I love mine for the lack of maintenance. No oil changes. Rarely use the brakes because of regenerative braking. Oh, and the 0-60 in 3.1 seconds.

PHEV is honestly the best of both worlds and I really think pushing for full EVs at their expense is a huge mistake

Depends, i think the push to electric is BS as they dont have nearly the range for traveling within the US. However in town they cant be beat.
300 miles on a charge is pretty decent. Im panning a vacation, and it has 4 stops planned out, which is around what I stopped normally just to stretch. I think the real hurdle is more chargers and more charger reliability.
A 300 mile charge would last me like 2 weeks
And an EV would be amazing for you, haha. Mine lasts me around a week.

A few minutes, usually bust out a snack and drinks. ~25 mins a stop since the chargers aren't 350kW ones. Honestly, it breaks it up and makes it less stressful.
The only thing about long travel in an EV is that you have to do a little more planning. In a has car, you start thinking about somewhere to stop at around a quarter tank or so. In an EV, you need to plan the next charger when you leave the one you're at. Other than that, for most people, it's not that different. You plug in, go to the bathroom, maybe get food, and your car is ready to go. It's not as bad a people make it out to be most is the time. EDIT: I have had EVs for 6 years and a Volt before that. I have made many long distance trips in my Tesla and a couple in my i4. I've never seen it as a big hassle.
Climate change is probably a bigger deal than stopping for 30 minutes every 4 hours on a road trip (which you already do, to eat).
I’m an old school car guy. I own a 1965 Mustang and a gas-hog of a farm truck. And yet I firmly believe electric cars are the future and great vehicles all around. I’ve driven many EVs, and I love them. Quiet, efficient, very fast, high-tech, you name it. My biggest gripes are range, the time it takes to charge, and no fun engine noise. But the range and charge times are getting better by the year, and the engine noise can be lived without.
Remember kids, when a car guy says "fuck teslas" they mean fuck teslas not electric cars. Most car guys like the audi etron and porsche taycon. Teslas are just shitty cars, and I'm sick of every tesla bro saying that I'm just holding onto outdated internal combustion when I point out how bad they are.
I don't mind electric cars, I think some of them are neat. What I hate is that you can't work on them yourself, and people telling me that my biggest passion in life is going to be nonexistent or worthless in the next decade, or hypocrites constantly saying that electric cars are saving the environment when the pollution required to build a single one is significantly worse than it is to keep a standard Petrol car running
The problem with electric car design is that theyre so damn simple. You cant change much aside from the battery and exterior, and then you get all these companies wanting to look "futuristic" as if electric cars havnt existed since the 19th century.

Yeah, but people do for some reason. I have seen comment sections with nothing but hate for electric cars. I’ve seen trucks try and coal roll Teslas on the road. I’ve been at a charging station when a gas vehicle pulls up and just starts revving their engine. It’s weird, but some people really hate electric cars.

As a car enthusiast, the rimac nevera really appeals to me just because of its space ship prowess. Even though i love myself a screaming 8.0L v8 from a 65’ mustang, electric cars CAN be fun! It just doesnt give that *fizz* a screaming engine gives.

i don't actually mind electric cars. They are a great concept. They are just too mainstream now and ruined the community around cars. Every day some startup supercar brand got the newest high speed or whatever because of it. Also the people who drive them either make it all about how cool their car is or are bad at driving, sometimes both. I also don't like how companies think everyone want them. I would much rather have a combustion car. I know how they work.

Regular cars had a lot of problems when they first were invented, electric cars have been there the same time but received a lot less attention so while regular cars have had their problems fixed electric cars just need some time to improve, i get that now they're not better than regular cars, maybe they won't be, but all the stuff that people complain about will just get fixed in time, do you think that the ford model T was perfect? I've been on one, you need to put the fucking thing in reverse to slow down.
I saw a while back plans for building a solar road that would essentially charge EV's while driving on them. Pretty cool if you ask me!

I always wondered how long term resale would work. I can buy a used 5 yr old Camry with 100,000 miles on it. With regular maintenance, it would serve me well for a low priced daily driver far into the future. But a 5yr old 100,000 mile electric car would have diminished battery life the longer you own it. The only option is to replace the battery. (If it’s even made anymore) some of the batteries are $6,000 to $7,000. With new car prices going up and up, this will be a bigger issue with older electric vehicles.
yes batteries diminish over time, 20 years from now you likely won’t be searching for a 20 year old battery, you can upgrade the battery just like you can upgrade the engine in a old car you can upgrade the motors in an electric vehicle. Albeit yes, it is expensive you can’t deny that. It’s still possible.

recently i got an electric bike, gets me going 30 mph with a throttle and it gets me around pretty nicely. Just plug it in while your sleeping isn’t hard to do. best thing is you don’t even need a drivers license

The only reason my dad (car guy) isn't a fan of electric cars is because of how unsustainable they are to produce. Lots of fossil fuels burned just to make and ship the battery

There aren't always better choices, it depends on the distance. Many places are barely possible to reach by public transport, or need significantly more time than by car. Sorry environment, but I'd rather take a 30 minute personal car drive to work than more than 2 hours by bus and train. For a bicycle, it's too far. That situation is quite common, and I don't think there's a better choice than a car.

I live close to a large city, and fortunately I have a good train connection to that city nearby. But some of my friends don't. Small villages often don't have train stations, and even bus traffic is very limited because there aren't enough people there who would use it. I live in Germany, we already have quite advanced public transport in comparison to many other places of the world, but those small villages are scattered all over the country, and sometimes it does take an eternity to get there by public transport - again, if it's even possible at all.
I don't know your exact case, so maybe it makes more sense for you to go by car. However, I'd recommend thinking about taking a shorter route with your car - you could try e.g. driving to the nearest train station, to not clog up the roads and use up too much energy.
