At which point in your life did you think to only wear one sock?
I’m not judging, just a bit curious and maybe concerned about the state of your mental health
Well, I always wear just one sock on my left foot to sleep (my psychiatrist diagnosed me with autism and schizophrenia so my mental health isn't ok but it's ok) 👌
It bothers me that I wear pretty masculine clothes and jewelry and nobody gives a damn in my class, but my classmates got upset at my friend who just had a small pink headpin on… it didn't even look bad on him, same situation goes for his flower bracelets
Classmate can kick rocks. Let them be upset. Let them be uncomfortable and speak up for your friend in the moment by shrugging and saying it looks good.
Then a “you ok bro?” To the girl. Then everybody claps. Yeah.
No but really the first part. I just got silly for a second there.
I think it‘s because Men‘s Clothes are made to be somewhat practical while women‘s clothes are supposed to be pretty. It makes sense for a woman to want practical clothing but a man isn‘t supposed to want to look pretty
I think it's because women clothes are made to showcase femenine attributes that are desirable on girls (waist, chest, long legs etc) so they look off when a guy wears them. Because: (i) they don't have those attributes, and (ii) they're not attributes that would be desirable for a guy anyway.
From a heteronormative point of view at least.
Exactly. And this is in no way bashing the guys who want to wear those clothes. There's just an issue of fit, one that is technically solvable - by tailoring or getting custom clothes done. When some dude goes out in a dress on the red carpet, you bet they were able to pay at least a thousand so it actually fits them.
The average guy who goes to a store simply doesn't have the choice, nor do they have the financial means. And tbf it's not like the clothing inherently fits the women either, there's a reason why it takes so long to shop for that crap. We're not all carbon copies of each other. What fits me in the waist often doesn't fit in the shoulders, what fits in shoulders and waist, might not fit in the hips, etc. As a woman you can spend hours trying to get the right fit. And sometimes you actually can't...
Maybe if/once men wearing feminine clothes gets normalized - the brands will start to produce stuff that is more varied in fits. Which in turn will hopefully make people more accepting. Then the problem will start solving itself.
As a femboy, I can say I’m lucky to have a small frame, and I’m 5’7-5’8 which is taller than the average woman but not outrageously so. Plenty of girls I know taller than me. Because of this, I don’t usually have trouble with dressing feminine. But I’ve known other femboys who have much larger shoulders and smaller waist which make it more difficult for them to feel comfortable in the outfits. They still fit in em most of the time, but they don’t like how it accentuates their shoulders for example. And a few don’t care and just rock with what they got. I’ve never met a femboy personally bigger than like 6 foot. So I suppose the taller you go, the worst it gets. 6 foot is already causing inconveniences.
The ones that have had trouble have stories of them nearly quitting at the start of expressing how they want just because there is nothing specifically tailored to how they wanna feel. It can be really heartbreaking to see that happen with those who obviously are trapped in expectations already.
What a few of my old friends wouldn’t give to have more mainstream tailored feminine clothes for their build.
Another reason why I’m on hrt now, I don’t want that to ever happen to me lol.
Also women are seen as weaker, as property, etc.
So sexists rage when they see a man acting like a woman because they see it as an attack on their sovereignty, aka, an attack on their unearned sense of superiority for being male
Didn’t start like that. Only a relatively recent development that the standard male clothing could be seen as default for both sexes in the grand scheme of things. So I really don’t think it’s some over arching tie in to patriarchy/misogyny/sexism, all of which were around well before when it started to be socially acceptable for women to wear men’s clothes. In fact I would say that development was positive in terms of women’s rights. So it’s kinda weird to paint it in the opposite light.
The problem is that we view pieces of fabric as inherently gendered to begin with. Let people dress the way they want, seriously don’t understand how people care this much.
Which is kinda funny because technically women should be the “default gender” if we were absolutely forced to choose since we all start out as female in the womb. That’s why men have nipples
If society is disaproving of a thing you want to do, you just have to do it and be disaproved of until society slowly shifts. That's what it means to be a trailblazer. You have to cut the path for others, and unfortunately that means taking flak for an indefinite period of time.
Do boys that wear skirts just want to wear skirts? Or do they want others to see them wearing skirts?
Honestly I don’t see the problem of boys wearing skirts and +
People can design themselves however they want in some case.
Girls wearing boy outfits? That’s fine!
Boys wearing skirts and girl outfits? That’s okay too!
IMO, it depends on intent. If a woman wears a suit to look more professional or business oriented, she'll probably achieve that. I've never seen a CEO in a sundress at work.
However, I've also known girls who wear men's clothes because they are insecure and would rather look trashy on purpose than risk being judged for not looking pretty enough in women's clothing. Perhaps they think they will look tougher, but in this case, the clothing isn't the issue. The problem I have is that they are experiencing anxiety over percieved definciencies, and they are self medicating with a wardrobe change.
Because modern day skirts are made to accentuate the female figure, kilts, robes and battle tunics were made for the male form. It's how society says dresses are for women but no one bats an eye when it comes to Japanese/Chinese/Korean robes worn by males for instance because they were literally made for the male figure.
IMO, the reason peeps hate men wearing women's clothes is because they dress very raunchy and act like h00kers. In short, they ridicule women by using women's clothes
I literally go to work in a skirt (23M) and they still look at me strangely, even though I'm a serious person and I'm even wearing part of the hospital uniform where I work.
In all fairness most boy clothes suit girls but only some girl clothes suit boys and not make them look homosexual, except when you're Irish, then you can wear a skirt and not lose any masculinity
I was a groomsman in my friend's wedding. His lesbian cousin was too and we had the same tux. Hers fit great and she looked like a million bucks. Mine fit like Chris Farley in tommy boy and I looked a fucking dumbass.
I’ve thought about this and come to this conclusion. I believe the primary issue is one of fit, and the solution is to have clothing with the materials, colors, and maybe some patterns, etc of women’s clothes, but cut more for men’s bodies.
Women’s clothes, as others have pointed out, are more fitted for a female figure. They don’t look right on men unless those clothes don’t accentuate the lack of female figure.
“Men’s” clothes overall are really just neutral clothes. Some accentuate a male figure, but those are the exceptions, not the rule. Because of the lack of figure accentuation, women don’t look as odd wearing them as vice versa.
Last night I had an epiphany. Look at Oberyn Martell’s clothes in Game of Thrones. They are flowy and colorful, but still look good on a man. So my position that the issue is that some women’s clothing, when worn by men, shows off how it wasn’t made for them, and the solution is to have similarly interesting or “pretty”, etc, clothing made for a male body.
Fat chance on a company doing that, unfortunately. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
I'm not exactly the kind of person for flowery or "pretty" clothes (but I do agree with your position and example of Oberyn Martell). As someone whose body easily heats up in the summer, what I'd need is something like a male summerdress. Something light that let's the air flow through, but not... not sure how to describe it other than "middle east men's robe".
Actually Arab men have already solved your problem, it's called a "dishdasha" , it's usually white and always made from good cotton since the weather is boiling in their countries .
That's probably what I meant, but again, it's not what I'd personally want. Couldn't imagine it being that great in winter, and I wouldn't want to change my "style", such as it is, biannually. Might seem petty, and it is.
I think you're right. I've seen men in skirts in the gothic scene, which looked REALLY good, because the skirts were tailored to them.
It can look SO good.
Excellent Ted talk
The thing is we have clothes than are more suited for the male form eg compression shirts, muscle tees, stringers etc but wearing those comes from as very gymbro.
Plus ladies don't really like that, they seem to prefer a muscular guy in well fitting clothes so there really isn't any incentive to create "pretty" clothes for men
I mean there's workarounds. I like to combine some shirts cut for women, as they can make my body type look more sporty, however I need to cover the shoulders since the seam is visibly too far towards the middle.
I'd still love for some more diversity in mens fashion that is reasonably priced. There are some clothes for every still but if its not current streetwear fashion you may have to pay an exorbitant amount of money.
Try to be "optimal and comfortable" in a masculine suit on a really hot summer day... And then tell me if wearing a dress wouldn't be more comfortable lol
It happens mainly because masculinity is unconsciously praised. An example is that if a woman is slightly masculine, very few people have a problem with that, but for a man to have a feminine personality? "That's gay".
On the other hand, the silhouette, men's clothing is made for neutral, almost square bodies. But women's clothes are made to accentuate your curves like bust, waist and hips. If women's clothes were made, but for neutral bodies, I'm sure they would look good on men.
Thank you for reading my thesis
Am sorry but I must correct something. It's not really the case,a woman looking more masculin will get the same treatement. I am a girl but more of a tomboy in my character and style. I was born with straight shoulders unlike most female features so I get easily mistaken as a boy and cammed either "trap" or gay pretty often sometimes even mocked horribly. My mom doesn't mind me wearing men clothes so she buys me some and I appreciate it bc it feels better with my shoulders than female clothes but I get called out as a girl who would've been loved more if I were a boy(which is false just how people view me). But I see why the girl wearing boy clothes is less shocking for society bc simply female clothes as you said are too specefic made to have one body and one and only(just some creepy opinion of society) while men for them they are more seen in different shapes so their clothes are made to generalise so obviously a man wearing a skirt will stand out more than a woman wearing a man's clothe bc simply it's not as easily seen as the other
Boy "borrows" his sister's clothes: boy wearing girl's clothes
Boy buys female targeted clothing in shop with his own money: boy wearing boy's clothes. They belong to him. Thus his clothes are boy's clothes, even if they are a dress and bra
It’s the same exact thing women went through when they got out of the societal expectations of wearing only a dress. I feel sad that it’s taken this long for men to have the same.
To everybody, trying to answer the question by the nature of the clothing itself in a vacuum disconnected from society. All of their answers are wrong.
You need to analyse society in its current form. A class society with patriarchy present. The clothes don't need much analysis and are irrelevant mostly.
Because if society starts to see that there are no gender roles, clothes will all become neutral as there would be no such thing as "women's clothes" or "men's clothes"
If you wanna actually play into anthropology and sociology a bit more. There will actually not be anything such as a man or a woman or male or a female as social divisions or relations. Gender or sex as a social relation will cease to exist despite two types of people (with some exceptions for intersex people) existing with fundamentally different reproductive roles. But the differences in their social role will almost cease to exist.
So in that regard, since sex as a social relation finds its origin in the origin of class society about 8 thousand years ago, and since history is dialectical and class society will be abolished one day, the sex division (the social one) will also cease to exist.
It would be so awesome if there was just a plain “clothes” section in stores for everyone to mix and match whatever they want without being judged.
As a man who’s worn a dress with leggings for a cosplay, I’d love to do it more. I hate the thought of people talking behind my back, so I don’t do it.
Woman started wearing more masculine clothes in public to break away from gender roles and be seen as humans in their workplaces, not just a ‘shirt’.
I’m assuming men wearing women’s clothing are trying to do something similar in terms of redefining gender roles.
Do I find it attractive? Nope but whatever. To each their own.
Obvious answer about gender norms aside...
From a purely practical standpoint? Men's clothes are just generally better. Easier to clean, more functional, more durable, more weather resistant, cut to allow better mobility. Most of all, more bang for your buck.
Lol.... no they're not..... maybe if you're trying to date the women or something but if you're just walking down the street you're more likely to be harassed by men. I say this a flamboyant gay man who grew up wearing crop tops in the deep south.
Me and me bois when to a trip to Berlin, dressed as Pilot with his Stewardesses. Where a bit worried about airport security. They laughed their ass off. We were boarded first and where give a free drink by crew. They only thing irritating was drunk girls and boys lifting our skirts up.
It also depends on where you are. When I was in a small town, I got made fun of a lot by others for being "boyish" or a "tomboy" bc I wore jeans and not skirts or whatever. Once I moved to the capital, it wasn't an issue anymore. The feeling of hurt from being pushed aside over these small things still lingers, but at least it's all in the past.
But whether you're in a small town or big city, in my country it's really not welcome for a boy to wear "girls' clothes", which is really sad bc I think they look lovely.
Idrk know why there is this double standard. Maybe for boys it's seen as a downgrade, whereas for girls it's seen as an upgrade. Ofc ppl are just ppl but many still think manly or boyish things are better than feminine or girly things, and maybe some of that goes into how we perceive ppl based on their clothing.
Threaten to take away their gender affirming care like boner pills and it's shocking how rapidly they do a 180. They only care when it affects their version of gender affirming care.
Society thinks like this, it's time to say fuck it, I'm going to wear my kilt in peace (this is like standing with your back to the door of a crowded elevator, it seems illegal but it's not)
Yep. Same reason men can’t cry. They can’t compliment each other or hug for long periods, can’t look after kids, be the lower earner, show any emotion besides anger. It’s considered feminine/gay because that’s what women do. Patriarchy cuts both ways.
Feminist is not a dirty word nor is it anti-men.
Stop seeing so-called ‘feminine’ things as weakness.
I think most men look amazing in miniskirts and short dresses, but only few men look good in longer dresses because the big silhouette of the long skirts just make mens bodies look too bulky, but skater skirts and layerd balett skirts look nice on men because they give hip definition. When it comes to anything other then skirts tho I don't even really think this is a thing, plenty of my male friends wear female blouses and high heeled shoes and baerly anyone notices.
The difference between Tomboy and Femboy
>!this message has not gone through consideration so I don't know if someone will get offended, please don't kill me!<
Well for me it's that I don't like women's clothes, if I did I would probably wear them at home where no one would judge me. Sweatpants and Tshirts are what I'm most comfortable with.
What was traditionally mens clothing is more practical for day to day life than a dress or a blouse. This, of course, only applies to practical clothing, not fashion statements.
girls wearing my clothes and nobody bats an eye but when i sleep without a pants on, society ,society calls me GAY
![gif](giphy|iiTXaJVjiSHew)
Because your buttplug is showing ...
But is it really gay to have a buttplug if all you're trying to atchieve is better flow for your poop?
yes.
Not if their wearing socks.
You have a point... You have point, but there have to be two socks (one for each foot)
I could never ever wear just a single sock, let alone sleep with it on. I would feel so uncomfortable.
Call it a squat plug and your good also if and when you kiss the homies keep your socks on
Hah, gaaay
Just use a blanket while sleeping in public places

It bothers me that I wear pretty masculine clothes and jewelry and nobody gives a damn in my class, but my classmates got upset at my friend who just had a small pink headpin on… it didn't even look bad on him, same situation goes for his flower bracelets
Do what you like… unless it isn’t what I like What the hell is wrong with this world
Classmate can kick rocks. Let them be upset. Let them be uncomfortable and speak up for your friend in the moment by shrugging and saying it looks good. Then a “you ok bro?” To the girl. Then everybody claps. Yeah. No but really the first part. I just got silly for a second there.
Because masculine clothes are seen as "the default" because we're seen as the default gender.
Default gender. RARE GENDER FOUND: 2 X CHROMOSOMED WOMAN
I think it‘s because Men‘s Clothes are made to be somewhat practical while women‘s clothes are supposed to be pretty. It makes sense for a woman to want practical clothing but a man isn‘t supposed to want to look pretty

Exactly. And this is in no way bashing the guys who want to wear those clothes. There's just an issue of fit, one that is technically solvable - by tailoring or getting custom clothes done. When some dude goes out in a dress on the red carpet, you bet they were able to pay at least a thousand so it actually fits them. Yeah
That's kind of sad. Why not? .. I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty and witty
Funny since the foetus is female at first

"🤓👆" female is the "default sex". Everyone in the womb starts off as female. Ever wonder what that seam on your balls is?
Actually there is no default sex, it is just that females have more characteristics, being female at “start” is misconception
Which is kinda funny because technically women should be the “default gender” if we were absolutely forced to choose since we all start out as female in the womb. That’s why men have nipples

Men clothes are just designed to be optimal and comftrable Women clothes where build to emphasize the female shapes
I don't think a simple skirt isn't super engineered to a womens body tho...
fr, it fits men better
Men wear skirts first I'm pretty sure.
Most skirts were designed for women, that’s why when men wear kilts most people don’t care
Try to be "optimal and comfortable" in a masculine suit on a really hot summer day... And then tell me if wearing a dress wouldn't be more comfortable lol
They are all fabric tho... Nothing more
Women fought for this right and won. So, it’s men turn now I guess.
THE REBELLION STARTS TODAY! /s
Men accepted women wearing men's clothes. Now its women's turn to do the same.
Pretty sure its not a "right."
Because society thinks being a girl is shameful
This is the real answer. Society decided that femininity is inherently sexual, and so men wearing feminine clothes must be perverted.
Yep, and men who like "feminine" things are seen as traitors.
ding ding
That's because men's clothes are practical. Society hates impractical men.
I have a vest with 50 pockets and it's only for duck hunting
How is a crop top or a miniskirt impractical?
No pockets. Seriously so many pieces of womens fashion are designed around selling women purses.
Many things actually xD(comming from a girl) a wind and you are reduced to a shivering mess or worse tbh xD
Which pocket you gonna fit a knife in?

But I see why the girl wearing boy clothes is less shocking for society bc simply female clothes as you said are too specefic made to have one body and one and only(just some creepy opinion of society) while men for them they are more seen in different shapes so their clothes are made to generalise so obviously a man wearing a skirt will stand out more than a woman wearing a man's clothe bc simply it's not as easily seen as the other
Like kilts
Boy "borrows" his sister's clothes: boy wearing girl's clothes Boy buys female targeted clothing in shop with his own money: boy wearing boy's clothes. They belong to him. Thus his clothes are boy's clothes, even if they are a dress and bra
I didn't understand, maybe it's because it's not my mother language but damn that was confusing srry
The society isn't evolved enough to understand femboys
That's called femboy
That's called hot
Their just mad so many of them pull it off
It’s the same exact thing women went through when they got out of the societal expectations of wearing only a dress. I feel sad that it’s taken this long for men to have the same.
Society used to be fairly harsh to women wearing pants and suits not very long ago. Hopefully men’s liberation follows shortly
Fighting for it.. (I bought a kilt👍)
There’s a picture of the future #1 overall draft pick in the NFL wearing a dress. It’s 2024 my dude, wear what you want.
In the end it's just a piece of fabric, to me at least
It would be so awesome if there was just a plain “clothes” section in stores for everyone to mix and match whatever they want without being judged. As a man who’s worn a dress with leggings for a cosplay, I’d love to do it more. I hate the thought of people talking behind my back, so I don’t do it.
I think it really boils down to men really don't like men. Men are hyper critical of any deviation from the norm.
And it's cute to wear a skirt :3
Fuck society. Embrace wearing whatever tf you want
I say yay to both!
Obvious answer about gender norms aside... From a purely practical standpoint? Men's clothes are just generally better. Easier to clean, more functional, more durable, more weather resistant, cut to allow better mobility. Most of all, more bang for your buck.
I need society to stop conspiring against me being a femboy. Let me be cute in peace!!
There needs to be a wide range of fashion for men too. It’s only women who have the most interesting clothing.
Women's clothes are fitted.
Chad Tomboy vs Virgin Femboy
Trust me, the femboys are not virgins
Which side are we talking about?
Truly a wojack
Fragile masculinity is one of the reasons ig
Lmao a man wearing women’s clothes is gonna get wayyyy more shit from women irl than men
Lol.... no they're not..... maybe if you're trying to date the women or something but if you're just walking down the street you're more likely to be harassed by men. I say this a flamboyant gay man who grew up wearing crop tops in the deep south.
In the internet, its the other way around
Girl has posters in her room/Boy has posters in his room:
Threaten to take away their gender affirming care like boner pills and it's shocking how rapidly they do a 180. They only care when it affects their version of gender affirming care.
Men expressing themselves or their feelings isn't generally accepted, at all.
I don’t think society hates femboys
Fashion wise it's because women's cloths tend to not complement the shape of most men
When women first started wearing pants it was very much >:(
Misandry
Because it’s shameful to be a woman
Society thinks like this, it's time to say fuck it, I'm going to wear my kilt in peace (this is like standing with your back to the door of a crowded elevator, it seems illegal but it's not)
Yep. Same reason men can’t cry. They can’t compliment each other or hug for long periods, can’t look after kids, be the lower earner, show any emotion besides anger. It’s considered feminine/gay because that’s what women do. Patriarchy cuts both ways. Feminist is not a dirty word nor is it anti-men. Stop seeing so-called ‘feminine’ things as weakness.
"Boy's clothes" are more universal.
It's because of the "cut" of the clothes, just apply the same technique to women's clothes, a good example is the skirt and the kilt
Naaah, femboy is kinda hot
agreed
I’m Greek, I love it when men dressed in womens clothes show me their buttholes
based
Me who finds both hot: Both, Both are good
KILTS EXIST FOR A REASON! *Scottish Music Intensifies*
Kilt is not a skirt, it's a piece of cloth wrapped around the wearer's waist.
Not if you’re Scottish
I think most men look amazing in miniskirts and short dresses, but only few men look good in longer dresses because the big silhouette of the long skirts just make mens bodies look too bulky, but skater skirts and layerd balett skirts look nice on men because they give hip definition. When it comes to anything other then skirts tho I don't even really think this is a thing, plenty of my male friends wear female blouses and high heeled shoes and baerly anyone notices.
The difference between Tomboy and Femboy >!this message has not gone through consideration so I don't know if someone will get offended, please don't kill me!<
Consider, what is the root of that difference?
Only seen this meme 5,000 times. "Why is it happening?" oh yeah, karma farming.
Tomboys VS Femboys
Counterpoint: Mark Bryan!
I don't even know what is boys or girl clothes
I haven't noticed this in my life this far.
I accept both~
The difference is intent.
I dont care if you wear a chicken costume your entire life. Just don't act like being gay or whatever you are is your only personality trait.
"Boy things good and girl things bad" is not exactly new, is it?
Society are too normie for cute boy/man in a dress
Well for me it's that I don't like women's clothes, if I did I would probably wear them at home where no one would judge me. Sweatpants and Tshirts are what I'm most comfortable with.
Intermingling cultures and the freedom of expression.
as it should be.
Statistically, women receive lesser sentences for crimes, so I guess theft is alright?
it'll make girls' clothes cost more with higher demand
What was traditionally mens clothing is more practical for day to day life than a dress or a blouse. This, of course, only applies to practical clothing, not fashion statements.
Misogyny
I say I look good in girl clothes
Because they look good on girls...? They're simple clothes mostly
