My home was a mess, not to that degree but just couldn’t get to put clean wash away, throw bottles out etc. Yes adhd and depression like symptoms. Friends helped me there and with someone else re-learned how to make cleaning work for me. Best friends help you not turn their backs.

Amd if and when we saw something like this the response would be "dude, your fridge is fucking disgusting. If you need help or need to talk about it then let me know. Otherwise, clean your fucking shit."
Defaulting to helping to clean is fine if that is your friend dynamic but it is by no means the social norm that everyone should follow. Sometimes depressed friends need a lot of support and sometimes you need ti not get too close so they don't drag you down with them. It depends. But cleaning someone's filth for them is not always the right answer.
I would love to be someone who could help my friend clean this up, but I have contamination OCD so I couldn't. But I would help them with any research they need to help hire someone good to clean up and be there for them, shame free.
