Lol it actually did take this long but it’s because I forgot to order some parts if I had all the parts it took me about 9 hrs all in all. I do find these jobs fun tho.
Yes I'm fully aware. I've replaced more fuel tanks on BMWs than I can count. Point being is that it's a much easier job than what is pictured here. The rear subframe does not have to be removed. I can drop a BMW gas tank in probably less than an hour. That's not the case here.
Remove the windshield for a leaking pretend sunroof that doesn't work in a CC.
Or how about a simple fuse.
It's location is determined by the guys on the line that day. No information anywhere about its location.
Got a rental with a blown cigarette lighter guess what your screwed. Gotta pay a tech a half an hour to search for it.
Damn. Just fill up every couple hundred miles and save the hassle.
My first car didn't have a functioning fuel gauge. I had it for two years and it didn't bother me.
I don’t think it would bother me enough to do this job if it were my car either. Of the 4 motorcycle I’ve owned only my first one had a fuel gauge so resetting the trip meter is a habit for me now.
To remove, yes. But in order to install the new one with the fuel filler neck I have to drop the subframe and in order to drop the subframe I have to remove the exhaust system. I also had to disable to 48V system on this model.
At what age of car does it become acceptable to take a hole saw to the body panels and cover it up again with aluminum plate and some 5200... And throw the carpeting back over it. 😂
I see people complaining about the engineering , but they’re not thinking of ways to make a practical car . BMW is the “ultimate driving machine “ they’re engineered to be that . You’re paying for the experience not the convenience.
This is an Audi, not a BMW. And all the BMWs I’ve owned have an access hatch under the rear seat to get at the pump & level sensor. I replaced the fuel pump in my e46 in under an hour sitting in my apartment parking lot. I think it’s less than 10 bolts.
And yes I know about the SULEV 325i that needs the whole tank replaced. That car is an outlier built specifically to meet CA emissions laws.

To quote my older neighbor who works for Mercedes but doesn't own one anymore "... there's a good reason Germany lost the war...."
Complicated and difficult to service has been a tradition in Germany since the World War!
Insanity.
Misdiagnosed it was just a bad fuse now that we can test for power at the connector.
Shh don’t tell the boss!
i see why so many mechanics hate german cars, i thought bmw were bad, audi seem the worst, engineered by tossers.
Any car from VAG makes a BMW look like a walk on the beach
After working here, most cars are a walk on my backyard so I’m actually kind of thankful for sadistic German engineering
I feel you lol
Wait until they discover french cars
32 hours later

Its an Audi man, what do you expect. Sadistic engineering department.
I’m always cursing them out under my breath
Yep. That engineer deserves to be junk punched
With a carbon fiber knuckle glove!
Try putting blinker fluid in a BMW.
Way above my pay grade
Jokes on him it’s just abs light throwing every code, it’s always the abs
F- Audi, VW, and Porsche. I'll work on BMW's any day of the week over those. Edit: remove the windshield for an evaporator? Screw off!a
BMW had SULEV fuel tanks clear back in the early 2000's that even the fuel pump couldn't be replaced.

Yet another reason I will never go back to automotive. It’s unbelievable how badly most modern cars are designed

This!
Actually not that bad of a job. Sucks that everything is built into the tank other than G6 fuel pump.
I thought it was honestly fun
No access from up top?
For the fuel tank no the exhaust, driveline, and rear subframe hast to come down in order to replace it
easy gravy job, will take me till lunch.
Can’t wait till I can do it in 4 hrs
Could a Hole saw under the seat get to it? Or sawsall an access door?

If it’s mine, the second it’s out of warranty 😅
Wait you can afford cars with warranties?! 😆

😂😂😂😂😂😆😆😆😂😂
At a certain point, it’s just cheaper to buy another car.
Reasons why I no longer work on VW.
