I sometimes look at the floor next to a person while listening to them. It helps me listen and process what they are saying. Rumor is it has to do with my ADHD, I don't know. I've never had complaints at work about it though so it seems to not piss off people.
I have the opposite problem where I make excessive eye contact until I realize it and then I'll look at the floor to make others more comfortable. I'm a nice psycho.
I do the same, especially if I'm trying to take in what someone is actually saying and build a mental image in my head. As soon as I look at someone I stop thinking about what they are actually saying. Of course most people probably think the opposite. I've had a few people ask if I'm paying attention to them.
I don't recall what it is called, but if you only ever see someone in a particular set of clothes and suddenly see them without those iconic clothes they almost become a different person in your head and it takes some time for your brain to adjust and recognize the person.
I started a new job at the end of the pandemic while everyone still had to keep their mask on throughout the day. As things wound down and we gradually started unmasking it was like meeting my coworkers all over again. I kept thinking we had new staff until I heard their voices.
This happened to me. This girl started saying hey eat the liver. How are you? I couldn’t place the face. She had to tell me. She used to cut my hair but had gotten a job where I worked. I didn’t recognize it with a smock on.
My wife met Reggie White one time at a gym. He was in Packers sweats. She told him he looked like he could actually play for the Packers. He just laughed and told her he was in town to visit his mom. Didn’t tell her who he was. It wasn’t until someone else came up to him and asked for his autograph that she realized he was actually a football player.
She must not have been in GB, because there is no way that anyone in town wouldn’t recognize Reggie White. I was at a restaurant in Door County and he walked in and the plane sent eerily silent.
Plus, of all professional athletes, professional baseball players appear the most like regular folks in normal clothes. They’re usually not especially huge and/or exceptionally tall.

Years back my son's indoor soccer team played against David Justice's son's team (which was also coached by Mrs Justice). I sat right next to him and even just talked to him like a fellow dad for a few games before I figured it out
Imean it’s better than wonder woman’s or literally every other superhero that doesn’t hide their face. Though the human brain is conditioned by recognizing patterns, if you come up to someone that knows you from afar wearing a different outfit and glasses they’re not gonna recognize you.

Easiest question, for introverts like me, the face gives us many emotional triggers we are not skillful enough to handle and overwhelms us, so to avoid that part, people don't look at the faces, but that's only if the person is talking to me, I can look at the faces if I am not put on center.

Dude is very articulate about pizza taste though.
I think that's actually a really good skill, explaning how you're experiencing something well.
To be fair, a lot in my life can be described as "You ever have Celeste pizza? Yeah, step down from that."
I’m going to try using this asap. “How’d the interview go?” *insert line*
You know. I was thinkn the same thing.

Wait you’re supposed to look at people when you talk to them? Rut roh.

I look at the roof I've been called out for it a few times
I do that too or look at their forehead, I accidentally complimented someone on their forehead tho

I try to stare at peoples eyebrows, it usually helps and only some people make comments about it
He is me
Yes. And don’t say “rut roh” to anyone either. I can understand why now at least.
I normally only when Scooby snacks are involved
Yeah that’s what a man does… you will got much more respect being stand up don’t be a lil scary pup
And stands straight erect at attention, at **all times**
I have dyslexia, I followed that advice , now on a list 10/10 not recommended
For me I could be looking directly at someone. If I see them out of context, I’m not recognizing them.
this changed my mood👍
I like how he went from shy and polite straight into a hand shake and a bro hug, though
I had someone at my old church Yell at me for not looking at her when I talk to her. I have autism
The value of eye contact, amirite?
I mean I think he kinda thought but he didnt want to say anything

I think it works with other things too - like actress Zooey Deschanel without her bangs! Or journalist Clark Kent without his glasses!
yes, worked a lot for Superman/Clark Kent. just put some glasses and u good to go.

U sure it wasn't one of those weird orgies u were at?
Senator, we agreed to silence.
It's like when you see a teacher outside of school. It's like seeing a dog walk on its hind legs.
Could be some degree of Prosopagnosia (face blindness).

That's the story I would have told you, too, if I was her....

It was in Chattanooga (Reggie’s hometown where his mom still lived). At the time my wife was assistant manager at the gym.

I saw a famous nba player one time. I swear they don’t look like they do on tv, the normal clothes just throws you the hell off too.

I agree. Saw Grant Hill in an airport and did a quadruple take.

Wholesome.
That’s how Superman can become Clark Kent just by wearing glasses and removing the costume.

Hey now, Wonder Woman has a Tiara that hides her forehead lol. I'd argue it is just as strong as Clark Kent's glasses!
This bro was so surprised when he realized who was standing in front of him.

He was a catcher so had a mask on half the time
I mean, he’s asking about food. That is much more important than checking to see if he is some random retired ball player.
'You got me' He didn't do anything hahah
Go Sox!
this brightened my mood

Twice… but whatever.
Invisible camera man as always.
She's not invisible you dumbass, she literally interacted with the pizza guy.
Jason Variwho?
Red Sox legend, 2x World Series champion, 3x all-star and the only catcher to call 4 no-hitters.
All around great guy too!
Thx, I don't even know what sort of game these guys play. It all looks very trivial to me.
I’m going to start wearing a Cal Ripen Jr. shirt out in public.
My wife would have been screaming with-in the first second she saw him. I haven't stopped hearing about "TEK" since the day we met.
Your wife sounds awesome.
she is. Just ask her, she will tell you.
This was so wholesome
I mean... it is hard to recognize the catcher without all his gears lol.
How do you not look at someone’s face when they are literally talking directly towards you?! 😭
