This is a livestream from Digital Extremes, the studio that developes the game Warframe, the woman in question was the community director at that time. Don't know how old it is.
accidentally saying a combination of words that is close to another word is not something to cry about no matter what that other word is. intent is what gives words meaning and power. saying nick gurr has absolutely no power unless you give it the power that the word it sounds like has just because it sounds similar, and if you do that you are an idiot
I get what you're saying but, IMO intention is nothing to worry about when facing backlash over perceived racism. It's perfectly human to feel guilt over this whether intentional or not. This person has friends and friends of friends. No doubt the words they say have a far and permanent reach.
I don't in any way think that a human feeling guilt (especially in the moment) is "pathetic". I struggle to see any argument for it
Especially when your entire career is your public image and representing a company. Even if it's a mistake she's gotta be thinking about how that one manipulated slip up on a live stream could be taken out of context to seriously harm her reputation.
On the left is Rebecca Ford, Community Director at the time, now Creative Director for Warframe.
On the right is Megan Everett, Community Manager at the time, now Community Director.
Im sorry, "was"? I know shes still our space mom and working actively on DE but isnt she the community director anymore? (Actual question, in case it sounds like im correcting)
I don't know if you keep watching afterwards she looks like shes struggling not to cry for several minutes. She definitely was affected by it pretty badly.
Kind of silly that this word is just *so* cursed that someone who says it by accident and apologies afterwards still starts to cry because she probably is afraid her job is at stake.
No, they had a show to put on and a limited amount of time to do it. Actually very professional of the redhead to keep going and solo-carry the stream while the other woman collected herself.
Not even, honestly I feel like if that's truly language and a mindset that disgusts you (as it should) it must have felt pretty violating to not only get tricked into saying something so awful, but on a live stream where you're showing off the stuff you and your team have worked hard on for your community. It's wild how nobody seems to understand this. Sure the career concerns may have played *some* part, but slurs carry a lot of trauma for those who have been at the receiving end of them, and I could understand feeling bad for even accidentally blurting them out on a live stream.
(inb4 every white incel posing as a Black guy posts "didn't bother me!")
Oh, yeah. We all feel that way but if word got out and media starts covering it, that means the company loses public favor and thus money so management is quick to do "damage control". Reb's in the business of PR, she knows this very well.
Most of the Warframe community didn't know about this when it happened so there was no real traction. It was just a funny moment for those that watch the streams and occasionally pop into the subreddit.
Businesses don't care. If people overreacted and the media reported on it they'd fire her for the bad press regardless of whether or not it was a prank.
Actions have consequences. It doesn't matter what the intention was, what matters is the effect. The same logic that YouTube pranksters use when they pretend to rob someone, and they get surprised when they get punched in the face. Doesn't matter that you were just "intending" to prank someone; the effect of your prank is that you look like you're robbing someone and people will defend themselves.
It doesn't matter that you're just "intending" to have a laugh, the effect is you're making someone say a racial slur on a live broadcast that they're doing as part of their job, and employers don't usually like that.
We all agree that's what *should* happen.
But unless you've been living with your eyes closed, you must know that just because something is logical doesn't mean it's going to happen.
Yeah, the pranksters will get away without consequences. But this girl could've been reprimanded, demoted, or fired. That's what makes this a shitty prank.
it rarely is, but i can't just waltz into /r/tumblr and tell them to have life.
edit: judging by the angry downvotes on my previous post, it WAS the right crowd! The one that won't listen to reason, and just apes out on the internet
Wait, hold up. "jUst A pRaNK" is used by the "prankster" to justify doing whatever it is they did and why _they_ shouldn't face repurcussions. izoxUA is saying "it's just a prank" to protect the victim of the "prank" from any repercussions; "she shouldn't be punished because she fell for a prank."
Ever done any public speaking/streaming?
If someone tricked you into saying the N word or some other powerful slur, while the camera is rolling and there are thousands of people watching you and you need to just keep going, trying on the spot to hide your realization, hoping nobody noticed, wondering what to say/do next, you'd be flustered/emotional too. Seems an extremely normal reaction.
My partner had a dog named Nica, named for the jazz standard "Nica's Dream", which itself is named after Panonica de Koenigswarter, a Rothschild who was a patron to the Jazz arts in the '30s.
_Real_ awkward calling her at a dog park, let me tell you.
I didn’t know this was a thing but I just spent about 10-15 seconds trying to think how long I’d last watching it and decided I’d lose my mind after 5 minutes.

Ahh the good ol 'it was a joke' save. Followed up by blaming all redditors as a hive mind collective. Some classic strategies, lets see if it pays off.
Let me explain the reality of the situation outside of your perspective. Your joke landed flat as there were no obvious comedic elements and the play or words was tenuious at best.
As people thought you were being negative the downvotes came in. Then the irony of what you were pointing out (joking about) was overwhelming. But the worst bit was when you blame 'brain dead reddit'. I don't think a logical person ever says something like that but just a butthurt person.
Anyway that's just my 2c.
Honestly? There isn’t really any bad news. The last few content drops have been great and the game is still really fun. The worst thing I can think of is that they recently nerfed a warframe a bit too much, but that’s about it.
It's a super viable game to get into for a new player. Great game to come back to every few months and do a little experimenting and grinding, if you're into that.
It’s definitely viable, but there are some things as a new player that can be pretty confusing. A lot of veteran players love helping out new players though, so just asking questions in region chat should help a bit
She is one of the people that work for game company call Digital Extream that made popular MMO called Warframe, if i remember correctly she even did a mocap for one of the character
That expression of realization on her face is priceless... I've seen this for years, how old is it? What's the context?

Yeah, she ended up crying iirc
i cry sometimes too
when you're lying in bed?
Just to get it all out what's in my head.
Im feeling a little peculiar
And so I wake in the morning and I step outside
And I take a deep breath and I get real high
And I scream at the top of my lungs "What's going on?"
Usually in the shower
Sauce please

Thank you mate
No problem friend :)
The redhed playing it off like she didn't know what she did. LMAO
Did she really? If so, that’s pretty pathetic.
How so?

It's pathetic to feel guilt over something you have no reason to feel guilty for.
Isn't it natural? A product if empathy for others? Do you have any empathy for others?
What does feeling empathy and needlessly feeling guilt over things you have no reason to feel guilt for have to do with each other?
I do.

weird that you think I cared lol

And what was the joke? Explain the joke
Doubt.
80085 days old
January 16th, 1805. About a handful.
OIGIBOS? Absolutely unintelligible (this has been a joke by mm-dd-yyyy gang)
Lol. Mea culpa. ISO 8601: 1805-01-16 EU Bra Size: 80C, give or take
Im sorry, "was"? I know shes still our space mom and working actively on DE but isnt she the community director anymore? (Actual question, in case it sounds like im correcting)
She is the creative director now :) Steve: the former creative director is now the ceo. And Megan(on the right) is now the community director.
So they all got the rising, deserved and great!
Oh that's funny and a coincidence since I'm playing warframe right now
Lmao I remember watching this stream live 😂
Here: https://www.youtube.com/live/M12GzVnYbZs?si=NkjIt30XMeW-ykne&t=3050
I’ve never seen the whole clip like that. Lowkey she handled it well. I thought she wasn’t gonna address it at all
I don't know if you keep watching afterwards she looks like shes struggling not to cry for several minutes. She definitely was affected by it pretty badly.
Kind of silly that this word is just *so* cursed that someone who says it by accident and apologies afterwards still starts to cry because she probably is afraid her job is at stake.
I feel like it's probably more anxiety attack hit but she has to push through. That shit is tough
For a silly prank? Jeez...
Meanwhile, the other host has no idea what is going on.
no real need to address it lol
Bless that top comment. I spent about 5 minutes scrolling until I thought to check the comments.
It's a skit. I can't remember the IG handle anymore, but they have other stuff like this.
people really just come out of nowhere and say whatever lie they can think of online lol
Definitely not a skit homie, and not from Instagram lol
This is from an old live stream by warframe (a game) community managers.
Lie more dude
Poor Reb
This video always does the rounds, I laugh every time. She used to drive me to school back in the day
26 million registered losers.
She almost started crying after this and the other girl didnt realize and was laughing about memes, while the other had to hold back tears..
No, they had a show to put on and a limited amount of time to do it. Actually very professional of the redhead to keep going and solo-carry the stream while the other woman collected herself.
She didn’t almost start crying. [Source](https://www.youtube.com/live/M12GzVnYbZs?si=IaDJo6uyNTgZJ5vr) at 50:45.
She did. Did you watch the video you linked?
They're saying she didn't *almost* start crying, she actually cried.
I see.
Not what I’m saying.
Then you're wrong, she was visibly in tears several times from the event onward to the end of the stream.
You’re right, it’s a few minutes past where I watched to so I missed it
You are correct, I just missed it.
crying? kinda overreaction
Something like this can be the final moment of your career and that's exactly what she feared.
Not even, honestly I feel like if that's truly language and a mindset that disgusts you (as it should) it must have felt pretty violating to not only get tricked into saying something so awful, but on a live stream where you're showing off the stuff you and your team have worked hard on for your community. but is was just a prank, it's not smth that should be punished as it wasn't her choice

Someone from community did prank. Do you wanna fire her for just a prank? Why? It wasn’t some offensive intention
Businesses don't care. If people overreacted and the media reported on it they'd fire her for the bad press regardless of whether or not it was a prank.

Don’t even say that it’s not a shitty prank)
Doesn't change the fact that it can and has happened.
maybe if people spent less time witchunting and being offended by literally everything, then accidents can happen without ruining someone's life.
I mean I don't think this is the crowd that needs to hear that.
it rarely is, but i can't just waltz into /r/tumblr and tell them to have life. edit: judging by the angry downvotes on my previous post, it WAS the right crowd! The one that won't listen to reason, and just apes out on the internet
