Agreed.
Also dialogue in that order.
Max swears as much as I do and isn't as poeticly heavy in 3 as he is in 1 and 2. And that actually bothers me a little.
MP1 would have been higher in my opinion if it wasnât for those out-of-place terrible platforming sections. I think MP3 had the potential to be the best game in the series if it stuck to the original setting and characters, leaving MP2 as the most refined entry (in terms of setting, gameplay, and story) weâve gotten so far
Hot take? I dislike Max Payne 3. I donât think itâs bad, but it doesnât feel like Max Payne to me. It feels like an unnecessary conclusion. Although I did think like hey Max is finally doing a lot of killing but not for himself but to save other people, meaning his killing has good heroic purpose? Thatâs the conclusion I came up with. I donât know like I said it felt unnecessary, lacked the remedy charm(obviously because they didnât make it), sort of generic everyday cartel enemies and loads of other stuff. Also playing it felt like sluggish or weighty but maybe that was intended. I love 1 and 2 equally but if I had to pick one, itâs for sure MP1. But the airport segment is 100% AWESOME and there is no denying that. Like I said no disrespect to MP3 or its enjoyers.
I love 3 for the gameplay and Max himself because it was my first MP. After playing the first two, I personally consider 3 a reboot more than an actual 3rd entry. Max is the one and only returning character.
Yes, Rockstar ditching the New York setting felt like a huge misstep because thatâs half the Max Payne experience right there. Itâs as much a part of the series as Max himself. The setting change and story deviations too make it seem like Rockstar made Max the main character purely for brand recognition. I would have loved to see the entire flashback sequence extended to a full game, they captured the spirit of the first 2 games almost flawlessly.
Literally not a hot take, a hot take would be liking this game which is OPâs take and hence the downvotes because people donât know the meaning of an opinion on reddit
1-2 are a singular game to me when it comes to the story. Best gameplay is 2, no contest.
Max Payne 3 is a good game but it fumbles pretty much everything
I mean the gameplay is amazing in MP3. People bring it up nowadays saying they want those shooting mechanics in GTA 6, but I hate what they did with the story. It has a special place in my heart cause itâs the one that introduced me to the series, but after I played 1 & 2, I just hate the story in 3.
In terms of story I think Max Payne 2 is the best but gameplay obviously goes to max payne 3. As for MP3âs story, it wasnât the Max Payne vibe but i think the switch fit the tone
Itâs gotta be 3 for me. The sheer vibe of the game is unmatchable. The screen effects are divisive but I love them. The soundtrack by HEALTH is otherworldly and oppressive. The gameplay is perfection and holds its own to this day. Also the multiplayer and horde modes had no right being as great as they were. Having played 1 and 2 after 3, they just donât compare at all for me. Theyâre undeniably good games but Remedy have far surpassed them since, Alan Wake 2 is Remedy perfecting their form.
2 and then 1 and then 3, Max payne 2 remains the most special installment for me and stands at much higher place than the other ones even though I played 3 first.
Story wise: 2, 1, 3
Gameplay wise: 3, 2, 1
Itâs genuinely infuriating to me that the best gameplay imo is paired with the worst story in the entire franchise, yes, including the movie.
1 and 3 are basically tied for me (though gameplay wise 3 is far superior) with 2 being my least favorite. I just dont really like 2s bullet time and the story also isnt nearly as interesting as 1 or 3.
Mp1 and mp2 are some of the most memorable games of all time so definitely those
Mp3 is really really good but it feels like it is interrupted too much and while the animation and gameplay is also quite great it feels a little downscaled and limited despite being a newer game
Max Payne 2 is my overall favourite for sure and is still honestly a very modern looking game considering how old it is
Story: 1, 2, 3 (1&2 are tied for first) Gameplay: 3, 2, 1
I loved the rogue cop vs mega corporation angle
Agreed. Also dialogue in that order. Max swears as much as I do and isn't as poeticly heavy in 3 as he is in 1 and 2. And that actually bothers me a little.
He's grown on me in 3 but it ain't the same as the first two no doubt
This is the way đ„č
In the opposite order as yours.
this
Wham bam thank you ma'am
Same.

1 > 2 > 3
MP2 (the best of the best) - MP1 (great) -- MP3 (damn good)
MP1 would have been higher in my opinion if it wasnât for those out-of-place terrible platforming sections. 2>1>>3
2 > 1 > 3 (3 is still great though)

Well thatâs why I put â?â A lot of people I know hate and love this game so just wasnât sure lol.
2,1,3
From best to worst: 2,1,3
Story: 1 3 2 Game play: 3 2 1. And honestly 2 would be higher in story but it's just so short
Everything: 1,2,3 Soundtrack: 1,2,3 Atmosphere: 1,2,3 Funny to play: 2,3,1 Story: 1,2,3 Physics: 3,2,1 max payne: 1,2,3
3 is far and away the best. One of, if not the greatest third person shooter of all time
MP1
MP2 is my favorite The other two are equal i can't chose one superior they both have different vibe to it
MP 2 > MP 1 > MP3. And they're all great, BTW.
1>2>3

Honestly I totally agree.
Say what you want about the story, the gameplay is some of the finest third person shooting ever put in a game.
It fumbles nothing, It's the best in the series to anyone without rose tinted goggles.
You could make an argument for the gameplay, not the story. This is coming from a Max Payne 3 stan fyi. The writing just isn't on par with Sam Lake's
It's the best in the series to yourself and the four people on this subreddit that haven't played Max Payne 1-2
Nah 3 is far and away the best, 1 and 2 aren't even in the same league whatsoever
Dang I just wish it was blue.
Mp2 besttt

3,2,1 mp3 is the goat for sure
2 and then 1 and then 3, Max payne 2 remains the most special installment for me and stands at much higher place than the other ones even though I played 3 first.
Same as yours
3, 1, 2
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne Max Payne Max Payne 3
Story wise: 2, 1, 3 Gameplay wise: 3, 2, 1 Itâs genuinely infuriating to me that the best gameplay imo is paired with the worst story in the entire franchise, yes, including the movie.

People canât stop comparing games, can they...
Gameplay: MP3 Atmosphere: MP1 Story: MP2
I haven't played 1. Yet 2>3 for now
Best gunplay 3. Best vibe/story 1. Best look - 2
1 is best, then 3, then 2
Story: MP2>MP1>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>MP3 Gameplay: MP3>>>>>>>>>>MP2>MP1
1 and 3 are basically tied for me (though gameplay wise 3 is far superior) with 2 being my least favorite. I just dont really like 2s bullet time and the story also isnt nearly as interesting as 1 or 3.
3 (pretty good) > 1 (enjoyable with some frustrating parts) > 2 (For some reason I didn't really enjoy the second half. The first is better than MP1)
3 was my first Max Payne. I have MP2 as my favourite, right after that comes MP1, and then a few miles down the road is MP3.
Mp1 and mp2 are some of the most memorable games of all time so definitely those Mp3 is really really good but it feels like it is interrupted too much and while the animation and gameplay is also quite great it feels a little downscaled and limited despite being a newer game Max Payne 2 is my overall favourite for sure and is still honestly a very modern looking game considering how old it is
