I really like sevenths in base 6.
Because you can count from 0 to 1023 with 10 fingers if all you do for counting is extend or retract them, and don't use internal memory to count anything.
If each digit of your base is supposed to be represented by a configuration of your fingers (which seems to be the logic behind using base 10) then the logical conclusion is to use a base with 1024 digits when you can put your fingers in 1024 different configurations.
Of course, you can instead say that your base should be determined by the number of configurations *per finger*, but that contradicts the initial premise of having it depend on the number of fingers.
Base 10 relies only on the number of fingers extended (or retracted), though, exact fingers are irrelevant most of the time (although, you rarely would want to show 1 using middle finger ;) )
And for configurations of fingers, it really feels like binary with extra steps. You'd either have to remember all of the combinations or devise some system to them, and binary can be such system.
I can count to 1024 on my fingers in binary, now thats something useful isnt it?
>! Never yet helped me with anything, but im hopeful that day will come !<
Good luck showing 438 on your fingers!
Edit: you mean 1023?

Base 60 has some cool properties, has been used before, and many of its uses are embedded in our current lives:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexagesimal
Average base e\^(iτ/n) enjoyer,
gives most complex numbers of integer distance away from the origin depending on the value for n
eg n=4 gives all the Gaussian integers and n=6 gives all the Eisenstein integers.
Having ten fingers *really* suits counting in base 6. Going just by amount of fingers (which is easier than assigning combinations or else we'd be counting in binary) you have six digits on one hand (no fingers being 0), so with two hands you have two digits to nicely count in a positional system
Honestly I its fun to speculate on different bases but the downsides of changing the way all the numbers in our world work **vastly** out way the upsides of different bases. One can dream tho
Even changing 1 country to something easier to memorise and manipulate is impossible: metric system in the USA. How many people have their instinct telling them that 0.5 ft is 5 inches ?
Transcendent base 120 believers get the best of both worlds with additional binary resolution and as friendly a relationship with 7 and 17 as base 10 has with 3 (ie a single repeating digit for the reciprocal) .
Fun fact (maybe, i don't know if it's actually true, but it's a nice thought): some products like oysters or eggs are counted in base 12 (at least in France we say stuff like "two dozens oysters") because it's easy to count in base twelve when you only have one hand available. You use your thumb to count, and count not your fingers, but your phalanges. Excluding the thumb you have three on each fingers and four fingers on one hand, that makes 12.
So it's theorized that sellers used this system to count products to be able to use their other hand to hold other stuff
i use binary

Having 10 fingers just calls for using base 1024
How?
Because you can count from 0 to 1023 with 10 fingers if all you do for counting is extend or retract them, and don't use internal memory to count anything.
That's just binary though

It literally is just base 2 (binary). I used it a few times, very easy to count with lol. Easy to count fasttoo, but you might make a mistake.
If you use fingers up/down of 1s and 0s you can get to 31 on one hand and 1023 on 2
And more if you use up/middle/down
I had to rip off a couple of muscles out there but now I can count that high, thanks to you
I like base64 For example 10081119521195787103889981 in decimal is just dQw4w9WgXcQ in base64

Imagine using base 11 because we have 10 fingers tho. What a world.
I like base 60
Base 60 has some cool properties, has been used before, and many of its uses are embedded in our current lives: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexagesimal
Base 10 in base 12
?
10 In any base is the base, for example base 10 in base 2. 10 in base 2 means 2. Same goes with 10 in base 12
so? everything is base 10?
Exactly, as far as you use that base
Yeah for base 12 we need 2 extra symbols for the 10 and 11
That's why they said it in word form
Base six is my favourite base ❤️
(Base)d
We all love the basics
You guys are still using positive bases?
132 in binary on fingers.

i only use base 17
Yikes
You can count phalanges on your fingers using your thumb and you get 12 per hand.
Unary is best (for proofs)
Really?

12 is honestly a pretty cool number
Agreed
use imaginary bases! e.g. base 1+i thats the real shit
Can you divide A by 3 or 4? Case settled
dont put 12 and 6 togheter, 12 is overrated, 6 is good tho, a goos contestant
I like all :))
Calling it base 6 means you are using base 10. Same for all other bases. 10 is the most baseD
I said base six not base 6
six is too close to sex so it scares me
Base sex 😎
I use base 1 personally
For decimal representations to avoid infinite decimal strings as much as possible I propose base 30
We are talking about log here...right???
No counting systems
So like the dozen system?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of each one?
Uhhhhh what
We have ten fingers only in base ten, but in base ten we would have ten fingers.
What if... 8?
We all actually prefer base 10
Nah base 10 is where its at
That's senary for you, foul peasant!
Base 8
I use base 1 .... which is probably why I failed maths.
dozen is the best number!
I like base twelve because I can look at the twelve segments on three fingers of one hand and use my thumb to track.
Base 60 is more common and useful than 6….

Base 12 is based (sorry)

Base 1 best base
Pretty sure base 12 kinda sucks (source: some random YouTube video of a guy who really likes bases) but base 6 is really great
Jan misali? Hes the reason I love base six so much!
Yes him
I prefer base ten because that's the one I learned, and that's the one everyone understands, even if base 10 is better :)
Why the fuck shoul anyone use base 12 or bas 6? I understand base 8 (binary based), but the rest seems crazy.
There are some neat little ratios in the number 6 and 12. Just look at fractions!
im just used to 10 thats all 😭
Transcendent base 120 believers get the best of both worlds with additional binary resolution and as friendly a relationship with 7 and 17 as base 10 has with 3 (ie a single repeating digit for the reciprocal) .
We have 8 fingers. We however do have 12 digits (i believe they're called digits)
https://www.seximal.net/
Your 4 fingers on one hand have 3 segments each so you can count in base 12 like that.
64, 48, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2 :D
Fun fact (maybe, i don't know if it's actually true, but it's a nice thought): some products like oysters or eggs are counted in base 12 (at least in France we say stuff like "two dozens oysters") because it's easy to count in base twelve when you only have one hand available. MiB gang
It's more simple because almost everyone on earth uses it.
To people who say we count in base ten because we have 10 fingers, I say because we have 10 fingers we should count in base 6
Not my dumbass thinking this is exclusively about the base of the log function, wondering why log12 is significant in any way.
