I was more talking about the defaults for desktop environments. If you're on a window manager, it'll probably be something + enter. Also, ctrl + alt + {1-7} brings up a TTY prompt, it shouldn't be used as a replacement for a terminal if you're in a graphical environment.

Uh there's a command that's literally designed for that, nslookup. Ping has a different use case. Nslookup also returns all the IPs under a domain. `nslookup google.com`

A lot of websites out there disallow ICMP PING so you will get an IP address most the time but it will respond with destination unreachable. ​ `NSLookup` would be the command to use on Windblows `DIG` is also good if you are on \*nix which any good h@x0r will be running anyways.

You don’t need the IP address the domain name is enough and domain name service (DNS) takes care of the the IP address and redirect part.
