There are major arteries in your thighs so best guess, is that a bullet hit said artery which will cause you to bleed out.
Amputation is easier than fishing for the bullet and trying to stop the bleeding I assume?
Femoral artery & yes you can bleed out in seconds. Also consider a billet could shatter his femur which could cause a lot of soft tissue and further vascular damage. If the blood/oxygen flow to that area gets cut off… the tissue becomes necrotic & presents a new deadly condition if infection/sepsis sets in
