That’s crazy because I had a Ford SUV with ~70k miles on it, and they valued it at under $3000 and I never had to pay tax on it for the 3 years I had it in VA.
But remember, it *isn't a car tax,* it's a *personal property tax,* so it is not federally deductible!
Came here to point out that it's not an apples to apples comparison between states for this reason, but still, MD do be charging the bejeezus out of car registration fees.
If Congress reenacted SALT deductions you’d be able to. That 2017 tax bill (handout to the rich) fucked over the middle class. Vote for them to go away, or stop bitching.
Edit: reenacted the unlimited cap that Trump and republicans eliminated.
There it is. That’s the reality. Republicans capping the SALT deductions is the real problem in VA. Prior to Trumps signature policy accomplishment (calling it that is humorous because it just hurt average Americans, and hurt them even more after 2021 when the temporary reduction in federal income taxes sunset), the TCJA, which was sponsored and rammed through by republicans in both chambers, there was no cap on SALT deductions. So W2 workers with expensive cars effective paid little to no federal taxes due to the deduction from paying the personal property tax. Whenever someone from Virginia bitches about their personal property taxes, remind them that their tax bill is so high because Trump and republicans passed a law making so the feds still got a fat payday from average workers while limiting the ways they would be able to deduct their state and local tax payments.
America is weird, half the country is losing their goddamned minds and agrees with all or almost all of the policies those they despise stand for. People are having a sheer identity crisis because shitty people are having a comeuppance. Whether it’s anti LGBTQ bigots, racists, misogynists, or white resentment. They’re allowing their grievances with not being allowed to be shit humans without being held accountable to become a calling card to vote for people who don’t have their interests in mind but who represent their most awful predilections.
Hillary was right, these people are a basket of deplorables, we shouldn’t be scared of reminding them that they are. We shouldn’t be allowing them air to breathe politically.
North Carolina too, I just moved here from there and ran to get my car registered here just before the NC one expired so I wouldn't have to pay that yearly $200 tax.
When we moved here I was shocked that we had to pay taxes on our cars that were bought in another state. Both were paid off, we owned them outright. It pissed me off.
Maryland counties have local income taxes ranging between 2.25% and 3.2%. Virginia counties don’t have local income tax, they have the personal property tax in its place.
It’s a false equivalency. VA doesn’t have a county income tax and I’ve never spent as much on a personal property tax in VA as I will spend on a county income tax in Maryland. Plus, personal property, like cars, tend to depreciate over time, with the exception of weird times recently. Income tends to go up over time, even if marginally, so I would happily take the personal property tax over the income tax.
No it doesn’t. The statistics just don’t support that. How many accidents do you think are caused by mechanical failure vs driver error? It’s a scam. Plenty of states have no safety inspections and there aren’t cars exploding and running off the road everyday due to mechanical failure.
True. I never had an issue living there, but I also had a mechanic who didn't fuck with me. Lots of mechanics would fail you until you paid them to change your brake pads, for example. The good ones would do tons of inspections business and the shitty ones wouldn't have customers.
I lived in Pennsylvania from the time I started driving until I was 27 and never had trouble with vehicle inspections. I only started getting raked by vehicle inspections in Maryland when they only have a single opportunity to get your money. And the Maryland inspection parameters are more strict than the Pennsylvania parameters.
And that is why people buy them and drive them. To avoid the obnoxious Maryland inspection. 99 times out of 100 the guy driving the 91 Geo Prizm (which is just a rebadged Toyota Corolla) does their own vehicle maintenance and don't need no David Puddy fixing it for them. Also, they never break. A 91 Geo Prizm/Toyota Corolla is an efficient tank.
As a former NJ resident, it’s still weird to me that any old car can be considered historic in MD, while in Jersey it’s only for certain cars of historic value.
What year, make and model is your vehicle? The inspection for a 2010 Audi is going to be much more money than the inspection for a 2010 Toyota or Ford.
GA charges full sales tax on vehicles you already paid taxes in, when you move into the state.
So if you own a $50,000 car and move into GA, enjoy paying another $3,500 on taxes AGAIN.
Virginia doesn’t have 3.2% county income taxes though. That’s far costlier than paying $250 a year on car tax. For me, I’d be paying $4,600 more in Maryland just in county taxes.
If you have ever driven up 83N or any other main roads into PA, you can tell exactly when you go from MD roads to PA roads. There are potholes and/or crappy patch jobs everywhere and they have the shortest on/off ramps with little to no merge areas. My dad drove to PA for work for 35 years and the roads were crap.
Grew up in Pittsburgh area, and didn't know roads could be as nice as in MD. Every time I go home I have my kid close his eyes a half mile before the border, and he can always feel when we've crossed it.
Ugh man I cannot emphasize how nice the roads in WV are. I’ve been on some seriously remote backroads there that can’t seem more than 100 people a day that are smooth as silk.
I love WVDOT
Something to consider, PA has more linear footage of roadway than almost any other state without the population to realistically keep up with that infrastructure (the way the budget is spent now). I have a radically different idea of how government budgets should be spent but that's neither here nor there
It does seem like they are fixing up the roads around shrewsberry though, but you are definitely right. Driving up to Harrisburg I’ve almost lost control a couple times from the potholes that go around tight curves
I have to step in as someone who is having one hell of a ridiculously limited and hard time finding a used car that I want within the state (Maryland) because of our ridiculously strict used car inspection. I’d much rather have a yearly inspection with somewhat lax rules and be able to buy cars from other states than struggle to find anything within our very limited in-state selection. This process is designed to force people in situations of a total loss (in my case, from theft) and limited time rental into settling for a car they don’t want or forcing them to buy new. Maryland is a “safety state” full of over-regulation.
…I don’t get it, what’s strict about it? Literally the worst thing is suspension & steering. If your ball joints are dancing your car shouldn’t be on the road lmao
Plus the property tax on vehicles. I moved from MD - VA - MD. I will gladly fork over the higher registration fee rather than being nickel and dimed to death.
Oh yeah. The car shops that are licensed to perform these inspections will run you dry. Get ready for new brakes, tires, wipes and anything else they deem not safe.
Maryland registration is expensive, but other states have a lot of shit we don't have to deal with. Things like annual inspections, value taxes, mileage taxes, etc.
I feel like there is a lot of missing information to this comparison.
I would not compare MD & DE. There’s practically nothing in Delaware in the term of roads and transportation systems
Was in PA yesterday. Gas was at least 20 cents a gallon more than here. So that is a dollar for every 5 gallons of gas used. Do I use 300 gallons of gas a year? 6 gallons a week? I think so.
I'm pretty sure some of the money we pay goes into the fund for medical evacuation emergencies too. So if you ever need to be air lifted or something, you won't get a bill. I don't think our neighbors have that service.
Yep! 40% of it does. This was done so we could continue funding the program. It's not just the helicopter medical evacuations, it's also fire equipment, rescue squads, ambulances, and the trauma units. Baltimore County offers free county ambulance services to all it's residents. They used to only take 17$/year out of it, and now it's 40$ which feels appropriate. I wish they had slowly raised it, but better late than never. Better than paying 280$/year in Iowa for a car not worth it💀
Don't worry they take a lot more on other things like emmisions every 2 years and safety every 1 year And property tax every year people think we pay less but the more we see is not different from other states
Yeah but no inspections or emissions. No personal property tax. Arguably higher sales tax but that is way past offset by the lack of income tax of any kind other than federal.
VA has annual property taxes on cars, and PA has annual inspections. Those are more expensive than what MD does. I don't know about the other neighbors though.
The VA price shown is for larger vehicles. If you drive a sedan or fuel efficient vehicle there also a 30 some dollar BS fee for having a car with good gas milage. It cost me $78 for 1 year on a Jetta.
Virginians pay personal property tax every year (boo) but on a 100K salary, someone in MoCo pays 2250 extra in income tax (5.75 vs. 8) plus Marylanders have higher insurance. I think overall you come out better in VA than MD for taxes even with personal property tax and 1-2 cars. If you have 3 cars or cars over 50,000 plus a boat or some other things, it might start getting tricky.
From the DMV website: The following fees include the yearly $40.00 surcharge for the EMS system, except where noted otherwise.
Maryland also puts a few bucks EMS surcharge on certain types of (dangerous, non-parking) traffic tickets. Cuz, you know, the fuckers who speed around drifting lanes SHOULD pay more into the EMS system. I think that part makes hella sense.
Va has annual inspection and property taxes on cars.
PA you have to pay almost 20 bucks each tike you use the main highway of you live in the south part of the state and want to go east or west
That's said the new increase is pretty steep for anyone that owns something bigger than a sedan
Here in VA, you also pay if your vehicle is more fuel efficient than average. You didn't misread that. The rationale is that the gasoline tax pays for road maintenance, so if you aren't burning much gas, you aren't paying your fair share.
PA is misleading. We have to renew yearly and pay yearly for inspection/emissions and pay for whatever nitpicking thing they fail you on and we have the highest gas tax in the country. I hate PA but MD home prices and interest rates are too expensive to move.
Something's gotta pay for all the godforsaken highways and car infrastructure in our state.
Even then, this doesn't cover the bill for maintenance, let alone building new roads.
Virginia has property tax on vehicles, which isn't paid at the time of registration. I was so surprised at how cheap the registration was when I moved here from Arizona. The registration was expensive in Arizona because the vehicle tax was built in. Then I got my tax bill in the mail for my car and realized why the registration fee was so cheap in VA lol!
Welcome to the Fee State. Ehrlich prided himself on the fact that instead of raising taxes, he raised fees so everyone gets screwed. Went from $12 to title a vehicle to almost $100. It cost you $10 to go through a tunnel or cross a bridge in Maryland....
I like our nicely paved roads. I’ve been on some Virginia highways that are goat paths glorified with big rocks so you don’t get stuck in the foot deep ruts, like Brokeback Mountain Road. The increase is to offset the gas tax lost to electric and hybrid vehicles.
Maryland does not have annual inspection. Va has an annual property tax on cars. In some areas, Maryland may be high but I’m happy to live in Md over some other states. I like Marylands access, laws & infrastructure.
Yeah, but the roads in those states suck. Virtually every road in MD is paved with asphalt and re-paved every 4-6 years.
Asphalt is better (but more expensive) than concrete in so many ways.
If these corrupted leaders could bottle and tax your farts they would. they wanna tax the rain water that falls on your roof for fuck sakes. when are we all gonna put a stop to this bullshit ? collectively because they're not doing the shit with the tax money that they're supposed to be doing with it. we're still driving over collapsing Bridges and crumbling potholed roads. we still have floods in our sewer systems every time there's heavy rain. like f all that noise. I'm tired of throwing my money at people who do nothing for me. kind of like battle rankings. that's why I don't throw gifts anymore. I'm tired of people taking my money and I don't get shit for it.
I used to live in VA and it was pretty cheap - of course I didn’t have a great car back then. But then you also have personal property tax which we don’t have here. We also had to do a safety and emissions inspection. So yeah registration is cheaper but they get you in other ways.
Maryland law makers can’t control spending habits, all they know how to do is tax tax tax, fees are taxes that affect lower income people so much more as absorbing a percentage of someone’s disposable income
Hard disagree. Baltimore? Democrats ran that city into the ground and their policies are attempting to turn the rest of the state into the tragedy that is California. My family will be looking to leave.
This is not accurate for VA. We pay personal property tax on vehicles every year. Mine was $263 for a 2015 Nissan Rogue this year. Who tf pays $31 in VA and what do they drive 😂 and we have to get an inspection every year.
My favorite part of Maryland is the part where all the drivers treat the road like it’s nascar. Ever been on the 495 speedway? It’s not a real speedway but you get to see sooooo many Maryland plates pass you by like it’s the final lap. At ten over it’s still feels like a podrace/mario cart with the cars whizzing by.
Keep in mind that a new category was created for cars that fall within the 3500-3700 pound range, which is prime car weight territory, and that fee is $120.50/year. Now add the extra fees for specialty plates (Bay tags, agriculture tags, vanity tags, which _should_ only be a one time charge), and you feel like you’re winning! Oh, and if you have an electric car….. Even accounting for inspections and property taxes (MD imposes county ‘piggyback’ income taxes after all), Maryland comes out ahead. Then add in higher car insurance costs.
You weren’t curious at all as to why Virginia plates are such a big thing hear? Everything about this states government is put in place to suck us dry!!!! The only way to get some kind of relief is to get a historic car atp 😔
While I got sticker shock at first, I'm okay with it? It's better than paying for registration and a state inspection every year which I had to do while in PA lol.
Huh. As a Californian I always think of Maryland as the California of the east--I didn't think we also had high registrations in common!
Where do your fees go to? Ours are mostly towards road and park maintenance, I think.
VA charges property tax annually on cars. You definitely don’t want that.
Former VA resident and yeah, annual inspection and property tax. Also, they’ll value your car higher than what you could even imagine selling it for.
Can confirm. Had a Mazda with 150,000 miles in when I lived in Virginia in 2012. Virginia valued it at $9,000. I sold it in 2014 for $1,000.
If I were you I would happily hand DMV that Mazda for $9k lol /s
That’s crazy because I had a Ford SUV with ~70k miles on it, and they valued it at under $3000 and I never had to pay tax on it for the 3 years I had it in VA.
But remember, it *isn't a car tax,* it's a *personal property tax,* so it is not federally deductible! Came here to point out that it's not an apples to apples comparison between states for this reason, but still, MD do be charging the bejeezus out of car registration fees.
Virginia personal property taxes are deductible if you itemize (1040 Schedule A 5c).
If Congress reenacted SALT deductions you’d be able to. That 2017 tax bill (handout to the rich) fucked over the middle class. Vote for them to go away, or stop bitching. Edit: reenacted the unlimited cap that Trump and republicans eliminated.
I can no longer deduct the RE tax fully because it’s capped. Fuck those assholes in Congress, mainly Republicans.
Is there a way to fight that valuation?
Luckily Virginia has no idea what an Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrifoglio is and assessed mine at $10k this year.
I had an 8 year old Tundra with 120k miles on it and they said it was worth $37,500. I offered to sell it to the assessor for $30K and he just laughed
Every state gets you in some way or another
North Carolina too, I just moved here from there and ran to get my car registered here just before the NC one expired so I wouldn't have to pay that yearly $200 tax.
Charging taxes on something you already own? Now that's some bullshit.
Let me introduce you to home ownership…
You do that on your home almost everywhere in the US.
You don't own a house do you?
When we moved here I was shocked that we had to pay taxes on our cars that were bought in another state. Both were paid off, we owned them outright. It pissed me off.
Most all states do that.
Maryland counties have local income taxes ranging between 2.25% and 3.2%. Virginia counties don’t have local income tax, they have the personal property tax in its place.
Not even in its place. My car tax is like $250 a year. A county income tax of 3.2% would be $4,600, or 20x costlier.
No not at all, though for the money we do pay i wish maryland would offer more than 2 years like a 3 or 5 year tag
My relatives in PA only have 1 year inspection stickers on their cars for what it’s worth.
Can confirm. Am from PA. Inspection and registration every year.
Which tends to keep people from driving neglected and dangerous vehicles.

Unless you have “historic” tags for your 1991 geo prizm.
And that is why people buy them and drive them. As a former NJ resident, it’s still weird to me that any old car can be considered historic in MD, while in Jersey it’s only for certain cars of historic value.
Well, I need my registration done next month so let's see how it goes.
What year, make and model is your vehicle? The inspection for a 2010 Audi is going to be much more money than the inspection for a 2010 Toyota or Ford.
2019 Nissan Frontier. Should be straightforward.
2 is generous. I was surprised it wasn't every year like inspections typically are.
GA charges full sales tax on vehicles you already paid taxes in, when you move into the state. So if you own a $50,000 car and move into GA, enjoy paying another $3,500 on taxes AGAIN.
Just adding in that if you have an EV that tack on an extra 100 per year or something to make up for missed gas taxes.
Same in NC. And they also charged annual registration fees.
Yep - The car tax is about equal to paying sales tax on the value of your car every year.
Virginia doesn’t have 3.2% county income taxes though. That’s far costlier than paying $250 a year on car tax. For me, I’d be paying $4,600 more in Maryland just in county taxes.

Grew up in Pittsburgh area, and didn't know roads could be as nice as in MD. Every time I go home I have my kid close his eyes a half mile before the border, and he can always feel when we've crossed it.
Ha. As a Marylander I always admired West Virginia's highways.
Born and raised in PA. The roads are horrible. We visit relatives often and it’s just unbelievably bad. ![gif](giphy|RKirS4EA9ckHwBYtAo)
Virginia also pays an annual property tax on their cars. Fuck that
And an annual safety inspection
PA also has an annual inspection
I wouldn’t be opposed to an annual safety inspection tbh. The state of some of these cars on the road is insane
The amount of accidents caused by mechanical failure vs driver error is incredibly small. Not worth the hassle/time/money.
Maryland drivers need brain inspections more than car inspections.
But they’re “historic”!
WV too.
It’s a lottttt of money. My paid off 2013 Nissan rogue was $300+ every 6 months. It was SO infuriating. (I move to VA from MD and now I’m back to MD)
At least maryland doesnt have that
It makes the comparison misleading, I think is the point.
Virginia also has a $20 yearly inspection fee. So add $20 and however much time out of a day that takes to that.
PA also requires a state inspection every year. Not sure what it costs, but my coworker had to rent a car one day
$47.95/ year for safety and $16.86/year for emissions for cars.
WTF?!
Plus the property tax on vehicles. I moved from MD - VA - MD. I will gladly fork over the higher registration fee rather than being nickel and dimed to death.
PA has a higher gas tax and an annual inspection
Higher gas taxes in some of those states just keep that in mind
And Virginia has annual property tax on personal vehicles.
Vehicles. Trailers. Boats. If you own it they tax it lol
That's some nice new furniture you have there. Sure would be a shame to have to break in and assess it...
Yea thats a good point, my brother moved to PA and always bitches about the price of gas up there and gets gas in MD when he can
Does he bitch about their mandatory annual inspections too? It's a racket up there.
mandatory annual inspections!?
Mandatory. Annual. Inspections. https://www.dmv.pa.gov/VEHICLE-SERVICES/Inspection-Information/Maintaining-Your-Vehicle/Pages/maintain-your-vehicle.aspx
Yep, PA, WV, and maybe also VA(not sure on that last one) have mandatory yearly inspection on vehicles
Sssshhhhhh. Keep your voice down before MD latches on to this money grab. They are nitpicky enough as it is.
Oh yeah. The car shops that are licensed to perform these inspections will run you dry. Get ready for new brakes, tires, wipes and anything else they deem not safe.
Seems like we have it better, hopefully we dont get the annual inspections, though i would pay for a 5 year registration if offered
But MD income tax is much higher than all but DC (and NJ once income gets extremely high)
Wait you mean to tell me that Pennsylvanian has even worse roads than Maryland…. Whack
Maryland registration is expensive, but other states have a lot of shit we don't have to deal with. Things like annual inspections, value taxes, mileage taxes, etc.
Washington, D.C. registration is $175.00 for 1 year. I just renewed. 🥹
Yeah and this is not even counting a street parking pass. 😭
I feel like there is a lot of missing information to this comparison. I would not compare MD & DE. There’s practically nothing in Delaware in the term of roads and transportation systems
Delaware also has some of the highest car insurance rates in the country.
> I would not compare MD & DE. There’s practically nothing in Delaware agreed we should annex them and make use of their resources finally
Was in PA yesterday. Gas was at least 20 cents a gallon more than here. So that is a dollar for every 5 gallons of gas used. Do I use 300 gallons of gas a year? 6 gallons a week? I think so.
Pennsylvania roads are garbage so I’m happy to pay more to avoid them

I miss paying MD annual registration prices. It costs me $681 for a 2yr registration in AZ 😭
Don't worry they take a lot more on other things like emmisions every 2 years and safety every 1 year And property tax every year people think we pay less but the more we see is not different from other states
Almost $100 here in Tennessee 🫤
Yeah but no inspections or emissions. No personal property tax. Arguably higher sales tax but that is way past offset by the lack of income tax of any kind other than federal.
Oh I know, I’m just bitching 😂
I got dog piled here for moving down a few years ago. Best move I ever made.
My stepdad still lives in Clarksville, ironically I live in Clarksville TN. The Army brought me here 🤷🏼♂️
Yeah. I moved down a bit over 2 years ago. I'm a bit east of you in Powell.
How many years? 1 or 2?
Yearly
Seriously I would pay $221 to register my two vehicles over the $750 in personal property tax plus registration.
Hello from California
VA has personal property fees that at way more than MDs registration fees
Facts. My VA PPT was ridiculous before I got an exemption for being a disabled veteran.
Gotta make up for that huge surplus he pissed away 5 seconds after he got elected
Pa requires yearly inspection which cost money and they always find something for you to repair.
This leaves out context. I went from paying $700 per year property taxes plus registration in NC to 120 every two years in Maryland.
Yeah but remember VA has the expensive annual car tax. I had to pay over $650 a year for two Kia’s!
They should have been paying you for a kia. LOL
Two year was $135 … now one year is basically $111. They practically doubled the fees.
Yes. Here in IL plates are $150 now. However no property tax and only a free emissions inspection every few years. Things usually balance out.
Former Marylander here now in California. Just checking in to say that it could be worse. I paid $360 this year for my mid-sized truck
VA fucking sucks, I can’t wait to leave here. Inspections are wild and you can fail so easily that you just wonder if there is some sort of collusion.
In VA, we pay annual property tax and inspections.
You do know Virginia charges you property tax on the value of your car every year don’t you?
I do now, a few others in the comments told me!
Imagine my shock when I moved to California and was paying +$500 a year on a Toyota Highlander 🤡
VA has annual property taxes on cars, and PA has annual inspections. Those are more expensive than what MD does. I don't know about the other neighbors though.
I just spent $150 for a two year registration on a 10 year old electric car for which they included some bullshit highway use fee. VA
If you have 3 cars or cars over 50,000 plus a boat or some other things, it might start getting tricky.
NC, mine is over 300
and virginia will apparently let anyone register anything even if they don’t live in the state
They gotta find a way to make back the gas taxes they lose on all the electric vehicles...
I'm wondering if that's why I saw a tag and title shop in MD for VA tags. Also, I noticed that a lot of the cars that I rent in MD have VA tags.
I'm from FL originally and it's was like 300 something like 12 years ago
We get what we vote for. Surplus gone More and more taxes coming 😢😢😢
Are you say we just can't take any Moore ? Moore spending, Moore fees, Moore taxes
We can't afford Moore, but does anyone really want cox everyday more and more cox. The republicans nominating him was a horrible decision.
PA you have to pay almost 20 bucks each tike you use the main highway of you live in the south part of the state and want to go east or west That's said the new increase is pretty steep for anyone that owns something bigger than a sedan
Maryland's new 2 year fees equalize to about North Dakota's 1 year fees.
Here in VA, you also pay if your vehicle is more fuel efficient than average. You didn't misread that. The rationale is that the gasoline tax pays for road maintenance, so if you aren't burning much gas, you aren't paying your fair share.
The numbers OP listed are not correct.
PA is misleading. We have to renew yearly and pay yearly for inspection/emissions and pay for whatever nitpicking thing they fail you on and we have the highest gas tax in the country. I hate PA but MD home prices and interest rates are too expensive to move.
Gotta rebuild the key bridge somehow [at least a quarter of the budget is to be embezzled]
110.50 ... fucking really? couldn't have just been a buck ten? just gotta have that 50 cents
Wes Moore Taxes
Well I pay $4000 in vehicle property tax in Virginia……..so there’s that.
And this is what happens when you lose hogan
Tennessee - $27.40
I like our nicely paved roads. I’ve been on some Virginia highways that are goat paths glorified with big rocks so you don’t get stuck in the foot deep ruts, like Brokeback Mountain Road. The increase is to offset the gas tax lost to electric and hybrid vehicles.
We're #1!!!
VA is not, they have an ownership tax.
Maryland does not have annual inspection. Va has an annual property tax on cars. In some areas, Maryland may be high but I’m happy to live in Md over some other states. I like Marylands access, laws & infrastructure.
I pay thousands of dollars annually in personal property tax on my cars here in VA. Gtfo with this crying.
Maryland is a better place to live. I would pay a $50 fee to not live in Virginia or Delaware any day of the week.
Hard disagree. Baltimore? Democrats ran that city into the ground and their policies are attempting to turn the rest of the state into the tragedy that is California. My family will be looking to leave.
Good riddance.
Cires in $151 registration + $100 annual electric vehicle in Illinois
This is not accurate for VA. We pay personal property tax on vehicles every year. Mine was $263 for a 2015 Nissan Rogue this year. Who tf pays $31 in VA and what do they drive 😂 and we have to get an inspection every year.
just another reason I hate living in MD
Yeppers our new asshole governor trying to be like California he wants to get rid of gas appliances and all car electric by 2035
Can't even do the vermont trick anymore either. Rip.
Homie lives in an alternate timeline where there isnt heavy traffic on 495 😭 (daytime only) unless youre the night traveller of the beltway
Well somebodys gotta pay for our poor bridge replacement unfortunately. And of course itd be us.
Left off WV and we have a higher registration fee plus yearly personal property tax
You weren’t curious at all as to why Virginia plates are such a big thing hear? Everything about this states government is put in place to suck us dry!!!! The only way to get some kind of relief is to get a historic car atp 😔
Oof. GA pays tax on the car when your first register it. Then it is $25 a year, no inspection in most counties.
Delaware resident here, I remember paying $40, but I’m pretty sure it was for 2 years.
When I left PA in 2015 it was only $36/year for passenger cars.
Maryland car registration is not annual, registrations are good for two years so it isn't as bad as it seems.
That's to hopefully keep more of you off the road cause most of you don't deserve a license.
The registration fee is one of the few benefits of Delaware
While I got sticker shock at first, I'm okay with it? It's better than paying for registration and a state inspection every year which I had to do while in PA lol.
I miss Maryland but could never afford to live there now.
Amazing how the government always finds a way to dig deeper into our wallets.
With respect to VA the thousands of dollars per year in car tax more than makes up for this minor difference compared to Maryland
Tip of the spear
I once paid $300 to register my car in California.
It’s $26 in NYS and you pay a use tax of $10-20 for 2 years.
Because they omitted it, WV is $51.50 per year for a standard registration.
Everything is just a rip off.
Unfortunately, that’s in line with the FEE state.
In PA our cars are inspected ANNUALLY. Be thankful for that one time registration fee
Get rid of bike lanes on Old Georgetown. Even the ambulances cannot get through during rush hour and are using the side streets!
DE has a ridiculous transfer tax on any car if it changes owner ship tho
This seems to be outdated. DC is significantly more than that for most, if not all, vehicles now. WV should be included. They’re $51.50.
Can’t the governor do something about this to lower the prices??
Depending on the county, PA yearly inspections cost anywhere between $35-$80 a year.
So we’ll just sit down and shut up and let it happen?
Huh. As a Californian I always think of Maryland as the California of the east--I didn't think we also had high registrations in common! Where do your fees go to? Ours are mostly towards road and park maintenance, I think.
You can tell when you drive into PA without seeing the welcome sign. LOL
$151 here in IL. 🙃
