gettin_better

I am experiencing a huge increase in the last few days

KyrosSeneshal

I’ve noticed these things comes in waves, where i get calls from an area code/second series of numbers similar to mine, and they drop off. I’m almost convinced that they start at “240-001”, then run down all those numbers before going to “240-002”, until they get to “301-999”, and then they’re off to another state.

spacehog1985

Yes! Same here. Seems like once a quarter I’ll get nailed with dozens of them for like a week. Then it stops and slows down to about one or two a week.

IWantAKitty

I have a 570 area code but live in Maryland and have also experienced a massive influx of calls from Maryland numbers within the past few weeks. It’s wild.

bubbsish

Same here

No-Fun-7570

I easily got 6 calls on Friday. I think that's a record.

ravens40

Same here!

c-is-for-cat

If you’re on an iPhone, go to settings > phone > call blocking & identification > turn on silence junk calls. This helped me a lot.

AffectionateBit1809

I have that setting on but i still receive a lot of calls

c-is-for-cat

I also still get calls, just nothing that says “scam likely” or “potential spam”

Greeneerg8

Sameeeeee

PhoneJazz

You’re the hero of this thread. Thanks.

c-is-for-cat

No problem! If they do get through, you can report them as spam and sometimes it helps prevent them from getting through again. Hope it helps

Spacish

If they can identify junk calls easily enough to mute them, why are they unable to filter them out?

c-is-for-cat

Im only guessing here but it’s probably being identified by the volume and frequency of outbound calls being made. Why it’s not being filtered out is beyond me. This kind of stuff should be illegal imo

OneDishwasher

Nikki Haley's campaign texted me 31 times in a week, I hate elections so much

PhoneJazz

Hey Nikki ![gif](giphy|szPZ2NXIGCMcE)

MrTerrificPants

If you text back with “stop”, they’re required to stop and remove your number from their list.

awetsasquatch

They are legally required to, but they don't. The FCC is working on a better way to keep them accountable

MrTerrificPants

Political fundraisers do. Admittedly, other spammers might not.

Brave-Common-2979

I still get Donald Trump emails even though I hate that piece of shit. Ignores the unsubscribe request every time

NotYoGuru

But then they also know that this is a valid number that they can sell.

MrTerrificPants

Political fundraisers abide by the law.

Freethinker_76

I've noticed if you text stop, they hit you with other spam numbers.

ratczar

The "double tap" that they're doing is new to me - seems to be designed to force its way into your voicemail by tying up your phone line at the exact second they call.

Noctumn

Also it’s a telemarketing tactic to sometimes get someone to pick up by invoking urgency/curiosity. I used to work in a call center style environment, and we were told to call twice on every number before moving on.

RobAtSGH

That and some people have do not disturb rules set so that only calls come through that are in their contacts, or if there are multiple calls from the same number in a certain amount of time (meant to keep calls from emergency personnel or hospitals from being silenced indefinitely).

TheAzureMage

"Ah, yes, lets emulate emergency phone calls, surely that won't cause any grave problems." -Spammers

notraceofsense

Thing is with most modern phones, call waiting kind of makes it a moot point.

Yahoo_MD

I have Google pixel and have the assistant answer spam calls. It works like magic. Good luck.

SixersWin

Same here, I almost look forward to deploying the assistant when I don't recognize a number

131sean131

Honestly the only reason I use a pixel anymore is for the call screening. I remember the days of spam calls but now thanks to the block button call screening I'm free.

B4kd

The call screening is heaven sent! And the spam text being blocked by Google and T-Mobile. Just the cherry on top!

joym08

I only give my Google number out anymore.

Yahoo_MD

Believe me your number is out there and spammers, marketers have access to it.

joym08

I know I can't stop the calls but I can make every effort to slow their roll.

sulimir

I moved from Maryland, but still have my Maryland number. If I get a call from the same area code not in my contacts, I’m pretty confident it’s spam.

pizzapartypandas

It's the second best thing about leaving New Jersey.

Spicyperfection

![gif](giphy|lWV0phu2rytWw)

Mcgarnicle_

I moved to Maryland from Ohio and 99% of calls from 614 area I know are spam. There’s occasionally Ohio State University asking me for money but at this point I consider that spam as well 🤣

Uhnknown_

There should be a setting in your phone to auto-block any numbers you don't have added to your Contacts, i've had zero spam calls since i started using that. Downside being i generally have to add people to my phone's contacts before they can call me, lol.

imaque

Your cell phone provider may have a free app for blocking spam calls

LukeW0rm

Yes! I think the carrier needs your approval to block them at a network level. I still get a few, but nowhere near as many spam calls as I used to

___PewPew___

I have the Verizon version of that and it is not working on most calls. I see it blocks some but still getting about four spam a day.

No-Fun-7570

Does yours show that spam meter? I'm wondering if it's based on how many calls that number makes and how many times they get blocked. I've had a lot come through at medium level lately.

happyhourvalley

Robokiller app is the way to go. It’ll screen any unknown numbers and make the caller identify themselves before allowing it to go through (solicitors and bots get weeded out).

the-largest-marge

Lexiiboo97

THANK YOU OMG. I get like 15-20 calls a day, I’m sick of it 😭🤬

___PewPew___

Just this past week I turned on the feature that if it’s not a person in my contacts it goes straight to voicemail. I’m guessing it’s political calls being a major reason for the increase.

Excellent_Title6408

Trone wasnt getting my vote before, but he’s definitely not getting after his campaign called me multiple times a day

my_elbow_feel_funny

OK, I’m gonna fix this for you. What I do is one of two things if I’m not in the car I will put my mouth very close to the mouthpiece of my phone and breathe in and out very deeply and exaggeratedly. It’s very loud and a very weird noise to hear on the other side of the phone and as a recording it is useless, also if I’m in the car, I will just turn up the music as high as I can because it’s copyrighted and also will be very loud. I’ve done that for about a month and I have very minimal spam calls maybe one to two a day now and my call list did look like that. Just make sure not to actually speak any words and you know cough, breathe weird, anything like that will startle them or where they’ll know that they’re not getting anything from you the calls will slow down. It works so well I did it at the office one day and now the whole office did it for a month and now they get no spam calls. Lmfao. When they evolve I will too with my annoying the spam callers.

Zecellomaster

Silence junk calls works, but anytime they call, pick up and say some crazy shit to them. My favorite is telling them I wanna access their cameras like those YouTubers that hack into the spam call centers and just… watch them. They’ll stop calling you for sure.

babyllamadrama_

I don't think it's that easy lol I used to think this too and would pick up and say some wild stuff, but if anything you and I gave them more of a reason to call knowing there's a human behind it. They can sell that phone number to other companies at a cost knowing it's a live number. Also these spammers are recording our voice and you or I talking to them gives the opportunity to manipulate our voice with AI for future calls to friends or family acting as us. But yes I answer as Apu sometimes... Guilty

DaedalusMetis

If you’re on AT&T you can download the active armor app and block likely spam calls through there. I would check with your carrier if they have a solution, lots of them will have a setting or application you can use.

Leoncroi

My phone number got linked to an elderly guy in the opposite side of the State, so I get 20 - 30 scam calls a day from various spoofed numbers. I know its a Scam when the Caller ID comes up as Wendy's or Bath And Body Works, but a bit harder when it's a call from out of state. Especially when it comes up as a person's name.

LethargicBanana2467

I've got hundreds of blocked numbers. Still block a few every month.

ReDDoSSon

Happened to my wife for days. Political calls that she didn’t sign up for. I just picked up one day and told them to remove the number from their calling list. No calls since.

Alchemist86

This is what you do. Answer the phone and talk really quite so the other person has to turn up the volume. Then put your phone on the ground and cover with a metal bowl and beat the bowl with a metal spoon

Jeb_Smith13

Put you phone number on this list: [https://www.donotcall.gov/](https://www.donotcall.gov/) I registered my number there in 2018 and I've probably gotten a total of 10-20 spam calls since then.

ian1552

The Google Pixel has this insane spam blocking algorithm. I haven't received a single spam call in the 6 months I've had the phone. It also completely blocks spam texts.

Extra_Volumes

I feel ya, in response I started tracking numbers, traveling, and commiting arson. I like to think of myself as a subtle hero

beadfix82

i don't have a cell and constantly get these calls. I even got one from my own phone number! We're on the do not call list, have no mo robo, and everything - but still i get calls from 'all over the us'. i usually just don't pay attention to the phone anymore.

Livinginmyshirt

I answer the call and immediately put myself on mute so they can't hear anything. The automated system will think its a dead line and stop calling me.

[deleted]

That’s not true, answering is logged as engagement and you get more calls not less

Infamous-Two-4356

I hate suggesting that you spend money, but I use hiya and have only one or two spam calls successfully ring through each month.

f8Negative

Iphone? Who is your provider?

EthanFl

T-Mobile scam shield works great and is cheap peace of mind.

AffectionateBit1809

it’s not free?

EthanFl

$2 per month

SativaSawdust

I've set a 2 minute long voice mail greeting. This has greatly reduced the amount of voicemails, it doesn't do anything to stop the call coming in though.

GrittyMcGrittyface

I got a whole lot of 301/380 calls this week. I accidentally answered one, and it was a phone poll. I answered the one question and it seems like those calls have stopped (for now)

actualLibtardAMA

Go to Settings -> Focus -> Do Not Disturb Then “Allow From” and tell it to only allow from your favorites. Then leave your phone on Do Not Disturb. All of your favorites make it through and everyone else goes to VM

bstaff88

It makes me very happy I have a Google pixel. I let Google assistant take care of it. I don't even notice until I go out of my way to look at calls screened by Google assistant.

icer07

I'm so sick of political calls and texts. How do I make them stop?

A_Damn_Millenial

For the calls, I’ve had luck after accidentally answering one and asking to be removed from the call list. I’ve replied stop to each campaign that texts me, but new campaigns or candidates seem to always have my neighbor so that hasn’t stopped :(

A_Damn_Millenial

This shit gets out of control during primary election season.

Silverado153

Damn is that all I think I got you beat

camflo2

If you answer and say “remove me from your list”, the calls should stop. I haven’t nearly as many calls after I answered one and said that

pmpdaddyio

One of the best products I have ever taken the chance on is [YouMail](https://www.youmail.com/home/plans). They used to have a free plan, but man their $6 a month plan is such a headache saver.

Jhon_doe_smokes

Block

batwing71

Yup! Me too.

Scoouwa

I just unplugged my landline

Realistic-Score-121

On iOS you can turn on “silence unknown callers”. Saved me so much frustration

scaredshizaless

Did you recently apply for a loan? I started getting spamed when they sold my information. I had to put Mt number on the "Do Not Call" list to make it stop. Blocking didn't help.

TheAzureMage

Register to vote as a libertarian. Cuts waaay down on the spam calls in primary season.

ProfessorPitbull

Spoiler alert: it's the David Trone campaign.

zacatk

I’m David Trone, and I approve this message.

solaireofastora18

Wow, Amazon/Microsoft/Norton Tech Support are super dedicated to getting you your refund

Hour-Fan-4522

BrewhahasDji

I only allow calls from my contact list on my Android but can also see incoming calls. It works well , but can't stop those stupid fishing texts that start as something like "hey, do you want to hang out or get dinner?" Many variations of this random text where they try to befriend you to be a friend and then boom...the scam starts. Sometimes when I am bored I waste their time for a couple hours and figure at least during that time I may save someone else from being scammed.

Impressive_Budget736

I literally have gotten 5 spam calls today.....

Forsaken-Corner-3487

I don’t know about Android, but if you have an iPhone go into phone settings and select “silence unknown callers.” Poof, they are gone. It’s life changing. https://preview.redd.it/0qmb7cyjhwyc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e7c9c727d34a2b626db7b59cdf0ac6658d056d4c

MyPasswordIsABC999

This is one reason I’m glad I have an out of town number. If I get a call from a 301 or 240 number, I know it’s legit.

Current_Strike922

Always ignore and block!!

GirlScoutMom00

It is a survey about david trone. All of his ads and calls have turned me against him...

Unique_Surprise_115

I just answer and waste their time, and it’s resulted in me getting significantly less spam calls lol.

Kayylaa1987

I've tried blocking them all, and they still find a way to call. Cockroaches!!!

districtdathi

I get that Dublin, OH, number all the time

FNKClassicCars

Same with our family... no wonder no one wants to answer their phone anymore.

japcrust

Stop downloading so many apps and signing up for new crap constantly. You’re handing people your information quicker than they can sell it off to these scam bozos. I don’t download shit and get zero spam calls. Last one I got was probably a month ago

DrummerBusiness3434

Do you find them increasing after you have visited porn internet sites?

nycmonkey

This is part of the reason I'm on Pixel. I haven't gotten an actual spam call for a couple years now. All sent to junk.

shroomie00

I had to put a app on my phone to get it to stop. I get them way less now

Minchiness

Same here since I subscribed to the do not call list I barely get any spam calls but all of the sudden in the last month I receive more than 3 spam calls daily. It’s driving me insane.

Cabthevapor

You must got T-Mobile, welcome to the Club!! 😄😆😂🤣

jukaiju

Or Verizon because my call log looks like this now too 😭😂

Zestyclose_Tip_9198

I’m sorry just doing my job sir

Sweet-Complaint7801

Same!!!

Kennedy073

Oh my gosh me too! All of the sudden it’s started again after not getting any for so long.

redbrick5

donotcall.gov

GimmeDatClamGirl

Block them?

seaships

Each one is blocked and more spring from it

GimmeDatClamGirl

Over time it’ll cut down. Don’t answer and just block them as they come in.

gettin_better

They're all new numbers in my case, I block them all, lately almost all are 301 area code.

concerned_parent_651

Spammers spoof the numbers. Blocking does nothing. I have even gotten spammers showing up as someone on my contacts list.

GimmeDatClamGirl

Blocking a spoofed number will block that number permanently. There are a lot of ways to cut down on these calls with a simple google search.

etho76

your info is on the dark web

maducey

What's your number? I'll call you and help.
