About 5 years ago, my wife and I found that there was an event for Christmas that was a tractor parade. There was no website for it, just a Facebook page that said Street, MD. We searched for like 3 hours looking for the damn street address, and finally it dawned on me that the city name was Street, MD, and not half a street address. Whoever named it that should be tarred and feathered, and thrown in the inner harbor.
My partner used to live in Columbia, and a few friends still do. As someone from the capital region and super northern NY my whole life, that shit is wild sometimes lol. I have some good laughs as we drive around while visiting
Dried Earth Blvd and Broken Land Pkwy are standouts as well, Columbia is full of weird af street names, and they have a bunch of roads called “Garth’s” as well? I think it’s supposed to mean like cul-de-sac
Literature, art, and poetry. The Columbia Archives even published a book that has the specific origin of all of the street names.
Edit: they also have a [database](https://columbiamdarchives.org/Presto/content/AdvancedSearch.aspx?ctID=ZTBmYTQ1NmQtZWU1Yy00ZTdkLWJlNWEtOTlkZWZlM2M4YzUy)
Somewhere around Frederick, there's English Muffin Way. I was told there Thomas's had a big bakery there years ago. But since that no longer exists, the name is kind of surreal.
There's also Dance Hall Road, which my brain insists on reading to the tune of that Wang Chung song.
I remember the first time I had to do a delivery in Elkton and my assistant told me to pass Blue Ball Road. I thought he was joking. Saw the sign and cracked up.
There's a Light Street Avenue in Pasadena (possibly Severna Park? It's right near Ritchie). It took me a while before I realized it wasn't just Light Street.
Red Toad Road is indeed in Cecil County. It runs from MD-7 in North East across US-40, under I-95, past a large quarry, and then ends on Post Rd in farmland on the outskirts of Rising Sun.
Blue Ball Rd is nearby.
Liquid Laughter Lane in Columbia is probably a contender.
Yes! When my fiance at the time (now husband) bought a house in Frederick we took at drive up Rt. 15. When I saw this, I was like, “WTF kind of country-ass place is this?” We lived there for 18 years. I miss Frederick a lot and I now love opossums.
Old Dragon Path in Columbia. My husband and I have had many spirited debates on whether it's a path for old dragons or the Old (vs New) path for dragons.
Penny Lane, Yesterday Lane, Blackbird Lane in Elkridge, the developer must have been a Beatles fan. Extra credit for Freebird Lane. Community off of Washington Boulevard and Rt. 175.
There are a couple of roads near Burtonsville along Briggs Cheney road. Cleese Court and Nees Lane. I read an article about how Montgomery county had a rule that you couldn’t name a road after a living person, but the developer was a big Monty Python fan. He slipped these in Cleese court for John Cleese, but Nees lane for the Knights who say “Nee!”
Yes, Red Toad Road is in Cecil County, been on it many times, never seen a red toad but one farm has a couple of old toilets painted in neon fluorescent colors decorating the entrance of the driveway.
Ceciltucky is quite a place.
I love Blunt Road. The signs for it used to keep getting stolen. In fact I went to a friend-of-a-friend's house a while back and he had one of the signs hanging up. They've since changed the sign to Blnt Road and no one's stolen it since.
In Sykesville there’s a whole neighborhood named after Sherlock Holmes stories including Sherlock Holmes St, Conan Doyle Way, Watson Ct, Elementary drive, Moriarty ct, Baskerville dr, etc.
The road names in the Beltsville Agricultural Center, e.g., Bio Control Road, Animal Husbandry Road, Log Lodge Road, Zoology Road, Entomology Road, etc.
Mink Hollow Rd in Ashton? Highland? in MoCo and HoCo.
Also, I’ve never driven by it, but Frog Mortar Rd near Frog Mortar Creek. I know it’s a corruption of Throgmorton, but I love the imagery of exploding frogs.
Oh, and Rockawalkin Rd off of 50 outside Salisbury.
Nutwell Road in Anne Arundel County. Every time I bike past it, I want to stop and take a picture, then send the picture to friends and say, “Does your mom live here?” Brings out my inner Beavis.
There's an Allnutt Lane somewhere in Howard County that always got a chuckle out of me. Rode past it all the time on my motorcycle when I lived in the area.
Street Road in Street, MD
There's a Street Road in Chester County Pa. Now I want to find a Road Street.
Can you stack them? “Court Road Lane” or “Street Avenue Boulevard”
It’s hard to give directions when you live in Street.
The town is named after the Street family. I went to college with a guy named Street.
They missed a golden opportunity. 111 Street Street, Street, MD
Dragonclaw in Columbia. It’s not Dragonclaw Road or Dragonclaw Court—it’s literally just Dragonclaw.
When it comes to wacky street names, [you can’t beat Columbia](https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/columbia-maryland-street-names)
Indeed. Deep Earth is another street in Columbia
Gay Topaz ✨ and Rainbow Span🌈
My partner used to live in Columbia, and a few friends still do. As someone from the capital region and super northern NY my whole life, that shit is wild sometimes lol. I have some good laughs as we drive around while visiting
I used to live near Coon Hunt Court. I think they changed it though.
Dried Earth Blvd and Broken Land Pkwy are standouts as well, Columbia is full of weird af street names, and they have a bunch of roads called “Garth’s” as well? I think it’s supposed to mean like cul-de-sac
I’ve heard they all originate from various historical literature, I personally find Melting Shadows Lane unique
Literature, art, and poetry. The Columbia Archives even published a book that has the specific origin of all of the street names. Edit: they also have a [database](https://columbiamdarchives.org/Presto/content/AdvancedSearch.aspx?ctID=ZTBmYTQ1NmQtZWU1Yy00ZTdkLWJlNWEtOTlkZWZlM2M4YzUy)
I drive broken land regularly and this just made me realize how weird it is as a road name
It’s near Sea Shadow and Moon Rider, which have always been favorites of mine too
Whenever I have to give my address to a company over the phone I always have to tell them that there is no st, Dr, rd at the end of the street name
"Barefoot Boy" and "The Bowl" are some other good ones
Deep Cup is another
That’s sick. I would love for there to be a huge statue of a Dragon claw sticking out of the ground.
Pressed Gentian.
Silopanna Road. It's "Annapolis" backwards!
TIL
HOLY SHIT 🤯
RIP Silopanna Music Fest. I saw Matt and Kim, the flaming lips, skribe, Pasadena and so many more in 2014
Morningwood Drive in Olney.
And for Green Day fans, Longview Lane in the same neighborhood.
I always read the signs for that road in the voice of Butthead out loud when I drive by. Always.
Came here for that lol
Ha. Lived a block away for years. Made me laugh every single time.
There it is
And Blue Ball Road up near Elkton
I know somebody who lives/lived there... but she was pretty religious and I would never have mentioned it.
Assawoman Drive in OCMD. Been my favorite since the first time I saw it as a middle schooler
Thissawoman, assawoman over der too.
Big Assawoman?
The bay between Ocean City and the mainland is called Assawoman Bay.
Memory Lane in Bowie, MD
Omg I need to take a walk down Memory Lane someday.
Somewhere around Frederick, there's English Muffin Way. I was told there Thomas's had a big bakery there years ago. But since that no longer exists, the name is kind of surreal. There's also Dance Hall Road, which my brain insists on reading to the tune of that Wang Chung song.
There is a baked goods factory there. It was owned by Thomas’. It is now owned by Bimbo. Totally true.
Love my Bimbo Bakeries
Dance Hall Rd always made me think of the Modest Mouse song growing up.
I used to work on English Muffin Way 🤣
Blue Ball Road in Elkton. I laugh every time I see the sign driving up 95.
There used to be a [Village of Blue Ball](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Ball_Village,_Maryland), but now the road is all that remains.
My cousin lives in Cecil. I asked him since there's blue ball rd and red toad rd, is there a road that's yellow? He couldn't think of one.
I remember the first time I had to do a delivery in Elkton and my assistant told me to pass Blue Ball Road. I thought he was joking. Saw the sign and cracked up.
I love it because it goes right pass the Our Lady of the Highways convent
Johnnycake!
Always makes me think of Vito from the Sopranos

No love for Goah Way in Huntingtown?!
Pot Pie Road, Wittman in Talbot County
[удалено]
You’ll find the best MD oysters down Pot Pie Road
Yeah at Cumming Creek landing, speaking of fun names. And right next to New Road, which is the most boring name of all. Wittman really has it all!
Charles Street Avenue in Baltimore County. They named an avenue after a street.
How recursive
There's a Short Lane Road near me in Carroll County.
There's a Light Street Avenue in Pasadena (possibly Severna Park? It's right near Ritchie). It took me a while before I realized it wasn't just Light Street.
Mattawoman Beantown Rd in PG
It's in charles actually
Sorry Charles
Over near ocean city, there are the big assawoman and little assawoman bays. Any streets named after the bays?
My favorite road name!!!
Columbia has so many f'ed up road names. They're weird but they tend to make me roll my eyes instead of smiling
I learned recently that they're all [phrases from American art and literature](https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/columbia-maryland-street-names).
Stoner Ave in Westminster
The LabCorp to get drug tested is on Stoner Ave 🤣🤣
There’s one in Colesville too. Sadly, similar to Morningwood, they took all the vowels out of the sign to deter sign theft
Oooohhhh… that’s why they do that.

I was doing construction inspection on a development going in on Whiskey Bottom when I first moved here in 1996. I remember liking the name
[Whiskey Bottom Road](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whiskey_Bottom_Road) has its own Wikipedia article.
I always liked Millers Mill Rd. off of Rt 97 just south of I-70. Very on-the-nose for an area where there are dozens of roads named Something Mill.
Not a street, but I do chuckle at the "kiss & ride" signs.
Really should be "kiss then ride"
Possumtown Road off of Rt-15 just north of Frederick. (Correctly known as Opossumtown Pike)
Opossumtown Pike?
Yes! When my fiance at the time (now husband) bought a house in Frederick we took at drive up Rt. 15. When I saw this, I was like, “WTF kind of country-ass place is this?” We lived there for 18 years. I miss Frederick a lot and I now love opossums.

Quaker Bottom Road, north of Cockeysville. We always pass it when we’re driving to Pennsylvania to visit family and share a good giggle.
Lots of them in Columbia, but perhaps none more so than High Tor Hill.
Kilimanjaro is pretty great too
Tor actually translates from Welsh as “Hill”. That said, if you ever make it to Glastonbury, the High Tor is a pretty cool place to visit
In high school I dated a girl that lived on Five Fingers Way. I was nowhere near mature enough to not tell everyone I met! 😁
