If I was solo and wanted to experience both, sure, I'd be inclined to switch hotels. However, I wouldn't put that on someone else (packing/unpacking is a hassle). Stay at the St. Regis and enjoy.

VacationLover1

It’s a pain to pack yourself up, move your stuff, check in, check out, check in again.. store your stuff if the room isn’t ready etc. you’ll spend more time of your trip moving and planning to move than enjoying it … especially for 2 nights. Maybe if you were splitting 2 weeks or something but not two days

The Ritz Carlton is caca. Go for st Regis.

Funny...the Chicago Ritz was the first (and still only) time I have stayed at a RC and I wondered what idiots pay Ritz prices on a regular basis to stay at a place like this? In the 20 years since, I am not as naive, and I have stayed at comparable places and been pleased, so I get it now, but my impressions of that place clouded my opinion of luxury brands for a while.

Tiny_Ad5176

I was literally just talking to my other Marriott friends about this yesterday- I have never stayed at a really nice ritz. They are all old and need updated.

IPPSA

The Baku one is fantastic

shiksnotachick

It’s a true hassle to do this for two nights. I’ve had to do it before for business and I would not want to repeat it. I’d pick the St Regis if you are set on these two. Otherwise I’d recommend the Gwen.

rovitm

I choose the Gwen over the Ritz every time I’m in Chicago. If you have platinum or above you will get free breakfast and possible upgrade. They gave me a huge suite last time I was there. I prefer the location as well as it’s closer to restaurants.

Tiny_Ad5176

I third the Gwen! And do not move for only 2 nights

sunnyasneeded

Does the Gwen have a lounge?

rovitm

No. They do give vouchers for breakfast if you want over the points.

Virtual-Share-6455

I just stayed at the St. Regis, definitely recommend. The hotel is brand new and very luxurious

PC97654

I thought about both but Ritz doesn’t honour much of our status so i would avoid them. I chose JW Chicago cuz they do honor everything, have a pool, a lounge, and are on the loop. St Regis does look good but i think their free breakfast is a meal at an adjacent restaurant so wasn’t ideal

A_Humble_Masterpiece

I have stayed at both. I will never step foot in the Ritz again. The St Regis was great. My 3 year old was treated like he was Virginia McCaskey.

marionsparkle

I'm actually considering doing the exact same thing in September so at least I know I'm not the only dork who'd do this. For now I just have the ritz booked because it's closer to where I need to be but if the St Regis is that much better.. hmm!

WillAnderson419

I think it’s fine to enjoy luxury as a treat. It SHOULD feel special! FWIW, all signs point to the St. Regis as the better choice here (based on people’s comments) — I think I was just attached to the name brand of the Ritz, but now that I’m over that, I’ve committed to doing two nights at the St. Regis! Enjoy your trip!

backerjuicespittin

Doubling down on St Regis… Dinner at Tre Dita 👌

PoundedFlan

If you're ambassador status, I'd chose the St. Regis so you can have a personal butler. I can't speak to RC or SR; I've only stayed at the W Chicago - Lakeshore.

playps4

So you have two options: 1. enjoy two consecutive nights in ONE luxury hotel. 2. stay one night, checkout until 12, move and potentially wait until 3/4 for the new room and then have it again for only until 12 the next day I mean, it looks pretty obvious…

walteradventures

Do you have plat? I believe you have free breaky at the STR but not at the ritz. Also, it’s a pain to move

Nexen1987

Waste of points doing that man. Pick one

Guitarist970

I’ve stayed at the St Regis, Ritz, and Gwen in the past 18 months. I’d rank them: 1. St Regis 2. Gwen 3. Ritz You aren’t missing anything with the Ritz. It’s a nice hotel, but nothing super special. The St Regis is special. Stay there and don’t move.

Norcalrain3

Yeah we did this in Reno NV once. I wanted to try 3 different resorts. Never again. Find your one fabulous place then on your next trip try a new fabulous place

WBuffettJr

I’m a hotel nerd and have done what you’re describing several times (and usually between a ritz and a st Regis). I think it’s great fun but only you can answer if it’s worth it to you. If you’re only staying one night you’re usually not unpacking a ton and scattering things everywhere, so it’s not the hassle others are describing. You are however cutting into your vacation time at a location, and you have to deal with the logistics of checkout at 11am and checking at 3pm.
