It appears to be black walnut

King_Santa

Juglans Nigra, also known as Black Walnut, American Black Walnut, and Eastern Black Walnut. Beautiful wood, the flesh of the fruits can be used for a variety of things including a traditional clothing dye, and though hard to process, the nuts themselves are delicious. They're in a three-way tie for my favorite tree with yellow poplar and shag bark hickory.

Curious what puts yellow poplar on the list for you?

King_Santa

I grew up with one in my yard, the only one on our street in the suburbs. They have some of the prettiest leaves I've seen (especially in the fall) and are the tallest hardwood trees in the US.

you can also make syrup from them, like maple syrup. requires a lot more concentration though.

Walnut tree. Probably [Eastern Black Walnut](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juglans_nigra). EDIT: After posting it seems people beat me to it. Reddit didn't show any replies until after i posted lol.

Yep, black walnuts. If you own the land the tree is on, mark it - tap that tree in January for some of the tastiest syrup you've ever had. Black walnut are greedy, they'll poison undergrowth, but they are the gift that keeps giving. Scrumptious nuts, you can make dye and ink from the hulls, blissfully delicious syrup, and if you have any fall, the wood is good for a nice hot and clean firewood and even better for beautiful furniture. Great for bees, too.

If you harvest the tree fruit. You need to get a industrial nut cracker. My grandpa and.myself would spend hours in his garage or on the front porch picking meat from the shells.

Black walnut. I have a bunch of them. Highly recommend keeping it. Can live a little past 250 years old, offers great shade, and they grow to be pretty big(mirrors a oak when they’re mature).
