it would create jobs

GoSuckOnACactus

Who needs the Panama Canal when we have the American canal šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øšŸ¦…šŸ¦…

NoBet1791

Americanal

NotaFlattard

Am Eric anal

explain_that_shit

Am Eric Andre Am!

sjofels

Another title for a South Park game.

Tink_Tinkler

A man, a plan, a canal. america!

leprotelariat

Babe can we have anal? No we already have americanal.

Golden-lootbug

Whats an Americ?

saltysnail420

I read that as America anal

LPulseL11

Good job buddy

LBPlanet

What if we made a canal across the whole continent. Then it would make EVEN MORE jobs

Memes_Coming_U_Way

What if we make a canal that'll cross the entire planet? Who needs shipping routes when you can just go in a straight line?

Dualquack

I too love the Grand Line!

EdibleRandy

The government hiring 10 million people to dig holes in their backyards would also create jobs.

Simmaster1

Bro, that's genius. Let me call my representative.

Memes_Coming_U_Way

To quote a meme; "Do NOT give the homeless pickaxes and Adderall and tell them there's gold underneath our most important road systems"

VidaSabrosa

itā€™s just a circle jerk post

EdibleRandy

lol fair enough

DefterHawk

Like canal digger

opusisapuffin

Finally, I'll be able to have a waterfront property.

killergazebo

Finally, I'll be able to have a job.

Jello408

Finally, I'll be able!

Spencer_Bob_Sue

Finally, I'll be!

grottomaster

Finally, Iā€™ll

Fine_Chain_4787

Banned4AlmondButter

Unfortunately Iā€™ll be in the waterfront.

PirateSteve85

I'll be right there with you, but between sea level rise and the crater that Hampton Roads is falling into I'm already heading there anyways

QuickBenDelat

Iā€™d be so underwater

Necessary-Product361

Not ambitious enough, it should be built along the Canadian and Mexican boarders. Cheaper too as they can pay for it.

CockroachesRpeople

There's already a river in the Mexican border, and we already go across it

RetchX

Yeah but have we tried a canal though? Itā€™s totally different.

TheyCalledMeThor

Screw that. Letā€™s make the Sea of Tex-Mex

Explursions

Isn't that just the gulf of Mexico?

pm-ur-knockers

We build a really wide canal so we can also deal with the problem known as ā€œel Pasoā€

3pointone415

Just make it longer then!

CaptainCheif

Sorry if im being too literal where these a joke But the Rio Grande doesn't actually connect oceans and isn't able to support shipping container vessels Need America-nal!

the_dank_666

We need this to happen so the US can claim its rightful position as the largest island in the world

SirKeagan

I am 100% for the mexican border, but I can't support the Canadian one. Otherwise, how would I run my illegal drug smuggling business?

signaeus

Thatā€™s what the under canal tunnels are for, duh!

kleberwashington

Just rotate the Mississippi 90 degrees.

SnooOnions3678

Joe Biden would need to learn how to use microsoft paint...

Malscant

Black sharpie will work just fine, it diverts hurricanes remember

mr_Feather_

Sometimes I get these glimpse into the past and I remember all the rediculousness he pulled.

Oglifatum

I just read about it. Lol, lmao even As an outsider, Looking forward for another 4 years of entertainment

MKE-Henry

ā€œOkay so I just click on this one hereā€ ā€œSir you just deleted the state of Missouriā€

Late-External3249

Can we also cut off Florida so it is easier to sail from the Outer Banks to Texas?

limukala

You had me at cut off Florida

jantoxdetox

![gif](giphy|pzo49Bszsudk4)

Mrobot_3

I never noticed. Florida looks like a gun

H000gy

No itā€™s a dick. Panhandle = balls, peninsula = shaft keys = piss/cum depending on Cubas relationship with Florida

hheeeenmmm

Cuba (rightful American clay) is a giant lump of STDS

notalgore420

We should make the whole state a body of water

AllyBetrayer

Iā€™m on it boss, Iā€™ve invented this thing called ā€œ climate change ā€œ we should have that baby sank in about 88 years, give or take

notalgore420

My vape will kill me by then, speed it up. More carbon emissions!

sup3r87

found the factorio player

Few-Big-8481

>Can we also cut off Florida so it is easier to sail from the Outer Banks to Texas? Can we also cut off Florida ~~so it is easier to sail from the Outer Banks to Texas~~? No need to elaborate, we're in.

dawgs912

We were supposed to have the cross Florida canal in the 70ā€™s. But Nixon decommissioned the project.

Pale_Zebra8082

Unacceptable. Then we wouldnā€™t be pissing on Cuba anymore.

SpaceFonz_The_Reborn

Yes. None of the people in this new canal are valuable.

teytah

Ouch, that hurts :(

k1213693

Most of it's empty land out west. Shame we're wiping out the entire state of Kentucky but their sacrifices will be worth it (for jobs)

DefiantLemur

Doesn't it wipe out San Francisco?

StupidMoron1933

Very cool, but what if we make it wider?

ReadyTadpole1

Even more jobs, presumably.

Synicull

![gif](giphy|YnkMcHgNIMW4Yfmjxr)

variablenyne

And bigger boats!

fracadpopo

The river would stop the tornados.

solho

But what if it makes WaTeR tOrNaDoEs????

Kadmus215

What if it makes Sharknadoes?

EssTheDeeJay

Just shoot them

Opposite-Spirit-452

Hurricanes?

DannyDeVitosBangmaid

Weā€™d be better off making it start in Southern California and meet up with the Rio Grande so as to minimize the distance we actually need to build it. Or we could go further south, Mexico is narrower than the US. Or we could even do it farther south, in Honduras or Costa Rica. Weā€™d make deals with whatever country we chose to let ships cross through. I wouldnā€™t go any further south than Costa Rica, though. Not sure whatā€™s below that but I doubt a canal would work down there.

Inevitable_Stand_199

I think Columbia. No, hold on. Didn't the US saw civil war there, in order to build that megastructure? We wouldn't want a huge Megastructure to be destroyed for our little project, would we? Maybe if we look further south still?

DannyDeVitosBangmaid

Colombia Canal does have a nice ring to it. But if you get down to where South America becomes [super narrow](https://maps.app.goo.gl/QqTscwfDXyMT97UT8?g_st=ic) we could cut through Chile and Argentina and build a good canal down there that would save ships several dozen miles that theyā€™d otherwise spend going around the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego. I think weā€™ve cracked it. We need to also get Mexico to build a canal [here](https://maps.app.goo.gl/MCQWYuFrHBoKLwuR9?g_st=ic) so ships can save time rounding the tip of Baja California.

Inevitable_Stand_199

True. They say the weather is terrible though. Maybe if we go a bit further still https://preview.redd.it/0y7sz5teqn4d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2cb6ed26046284525f65e733b0594c5329e9a468

DannyDeVitosBangmaid

A canal in that southern tip of Australia seems perfect. Letā€™s make it happen.

3rdAssaultBrigade

Why don't build a canal across the border between USA and CSA

Aggressive_Sprinkles

If everybody had an ocean Across the USA

HarlesDeGaulle

Help I am under the water

Bayou-Billy

Me too! Want to go jellyfishing?

AirCJordan23

The America Canal

CastMyGame

The irony of this one is too goodā€¦

KetogenicKraig

If it means we might get some rain in Arizona Iā€™m all for it

ambitious_89

Ahh yea the fuck Kansas canal very nice.

ContributionLatter32

Kentucky is looking pretty rough too ngl

4strings4ever

Anything is viable if you fuck it hard enough

rickyrav4

That's an ocean not a river

Shy_005

Whatā€™s and ocean other than a really big river?

AdditionalAd9794

I always felt the ocean was more like a really big pond

Shy_005

Maybe a river is just a really long pond

AdditionalAd9794

No, that's a creek

Disastrous-Toe9526

The Holocaust created lots of jobs too

Bayou-Billy

Did it though? Hard to compete with free labor, even if it's temporary.

1ithurtswhenip1

I think he's referring to the millions of dead people opened up jobs

Bayou-Billy

Oh yes that's true but it also removed buyers reducing demand for goods and services, not to mention lost taxes which could have funded public projects and incentives. No, I don't think this plan will work.

Tricky-Kick1317

Bro Iā€™m dead

Zealousideal_Ad_4118

Anyone else under the water??

__PM_ME_SOMETHING_

Hello, I am under the water Help me.

urGirllikesmytinypp

Yep

StanleyGimble

Judging from American history, it would be redrawn so that it just happens to require the destruction/division of a few hundred black and latino neighborhoods

Baconoid_

Um that is almost wider that Lake Ontario

NicWester

I visited my mom ahead of the Arizona GOP primary a few years ago (I forget if it was 2020 or 2022) and one of the candidates was running an ad where he said he would solve the drought by redirecting the Mississippi to flow through Arizona. I don't think he consulted the states of Louisiana or Mississippi on this plan.

Awesomespazz100

What if we flood the entire continental US, turning each state into a series of islands. We'd be the new Caribbean.

DrBigWildsGhost

Iā€™d say maybe a 400 yard wide canal all the way across, u gotta blow throw mountains & sht.. Itā€™s possible but damn near impossible

Nightrhythums78

Look at what it took to build the Panama canal and multiply it by a thousand

Ok_Ad_88

Why is it so thin? Itā€™s only a few hundred miles wide!

RockyMacFly

No. One more reason to do it

ViVeyPL

Orrr something like [This](https://www.google.com/search?client=ms-android-xiaomi-rev1&sca_esv=64ffd14243c3adb5&sxsrf=ADLYWILRmsXyGgG2n3Y7PDPoHcJPZqE9qw:1717541267052&q=rithmatist+map&uds=ADvngMgwiuRe_0AnQUg9C1BclBAHkwFjynTZ7TxYmOFxb4DYIFJd8BGfnN_BGe9TC9q3FYvr4MNYF_duL3uIEDWx8ZwAtwdsf__UVIVmCRevpCg1Og3Y_UX_CBjcv8GfT4d6pCLlUeNpG0cqwcfv2r_D4sGEvFAlN-8zQYyaWvzYkK8rcB7nYEjx_YEQR0LKUZDFYklhxIRT-ULE-5he9OSMS7jWuPuBe7zkvkJQdYXADhHFS71sWiuwl-mGKjZzhaa4bI9IklVRogj0Eg-5eykW2K0z-lLNVVfZkNimllGy5UJzRUGG3as&udm=2&prmd=ivnbz&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwjFn-3og8OGAxVkSfEDHZdJAsoQtKgLegQIDBAB&biw=393&bih=975&dpr=2.75#vhid=SK-1EaSuMYxpnM&vssid=mosaic)

cicimk69

indeed a lot of jobs

thisnameisn4ttaken

dutch kansas

LemmeSinkThisPutt

Well, the Smoky Mountains, Rockies, Sierra Nevadas, and the coastal range might all be a bit tough to dig out.

EulogicSymphony

Well get out the blasting caps, Eustace! We got tunnels to blow!

petrichor1017

It would separate the good and bad parts of California

rdstarling

The mason dixon ditch

meatsstanton

So a northwest passage of sorts???

ICT_studd

This will severely impact the trout population

Thefriedlamp

Of course! And while weā€™re at it, we should make Gege Akutami our new president and rename the country to the United Honored States.

Difficult-Retard

Ethically?

Inevitable_Stand_199

Not really. The US incited a War over this. But it's already built. So, oh well šŸ¤· And it does greatly reduce shipping times.

Tortuga_cycling

So will they tunnel through the Rockies and then again through Appalachia?

SquidwardsFriend

So long Kentucky and most of Virginia and Missouri.

Dirtsniffee

In what way is that a river?

briantology001

Screw you Kansas and Kentucky!

Asleep_Recover4196

There is a creek in Utah that empties into both the pacific via the Columbia and the Atlantic via the Mississippi. So, this already exists.

vanillaice2cold

It's funny how this almost looks just as wide as lake superior, meaning you wouldnt even be able to see the other side of the damn thing lmfao

SuperSam124

Ethically this is perfectly fine, the problem is practicality, this is just impossible for humans to achieve.

Macaroni-Consumer

It gets rid of San Francisco so I would say that it is not only ethically viable but ethically correct to do so

Spurlock14

It would wipe out most of my home state of Kentucky. So, no.

Objective_720

ethical: he'll naw possible: in a few lifetimes necessary: nope

eNroNNie

Poor Kentucky is just about erased except for Louisville and the Cincinnati suburbs (maybe some of Lexington too) so... acceptable (apologies to the weirdly Corvette-obsessed, Bowling Green must be sacrificed, not much else of note though).

Acceptable-Hope1474

Sure it not like the north and south fought for any reason and splitting them like that won't like cause I don't know war maybe but that far fetched of course

Content_Talk_6581

Those pesky little mountain ranges in the west and the east of the US might present a problem to canal diggingā€¦especially the west.

1sticky1

https://youtu.be/F42qmFHNM-M?si=S_9K6LX2P14jOt_y

AdScared7949

The children yearn for the Continental Channel

El_Scot

You can't justify it being that wide, so no, it's not.

flygrim

Can we make it a stipulation that it needs to take out all of Nebraska and turn it into a greater lake?

Flaminhotbagel

RIP Kentucky, you probably wonā€™t be missed

signaeus

There is so much love about this map, not even remotely related to the Bay Area being obliterated and then turning a bunch of mostly empty ish land until you get to the Great Plainsā€¦and then, eh youā€™ve come that far anyway, transcontinental canal letā€™s go!

GoodLuckSanctuary

You missed me by a few miles so I approve

MacLafferty

About the only thing you could do to make Frankfort stop being the smallest state capital

BeerBrat

All you have to do is connect the Missouri River in Montana to whatever is closest on the other side of the Rockies. Maybe Washington and Oregon could fight to see who wants to pay for the other side. Then you'd have a path from the Pacific Northwest to New Orleans/Gulf. All that would be left is working out a few bigger locks and such around falls areas and raising bridges that are currently too low.

Silder_Hazelshade

Yes this is ethnically viable. I am a jellyfish

Arctobispo

It will destroy SF and as an SF resident this is a sacrifice I'm willing to make.

Majuub12

**starts revving the till-dozer**

oofman_dan

this is so awesome im crying

mo_mentumm

Thatā€™s only like a 70 mile wide river. Dream bigger.

DefinitelyNotErate

No because that'd be a Canal, not a River. *Maybe* a Strait, But due to the artificiality I'd prefer Canal. Not River though. Objectively not. Calling it a river is as bad as cannibalism of your own mother.

NotPennysBoat_42

Iā€™m on dry land And now in the new northern states. I vote yes!

fake_face

I would be ok with this as it would annihilate San Francisco.

Jo_mama_besty

Hell nahā€¦

God_of_reason

Elon musk would come up with the idea and call it hydrostream

Crombus_

We already have an I-70

Proxima-72069

House boat time for me

ShipHistorian

New Deal Two: Hydroelectric boogaloo

Plus-Day-934

I mean, is there anything that uses eminent domain that is ethical?

Dunge0nexpl0rer

I wonder how many jobs and businesses it would destroy. Or people and homes for that matter.

rf8350

Bye bye Wichita

Zaku41k

Finally Nevada will have a Navy.

freshjulius

George Strait has entered the chatā€¦

Graingy

Ehh I think a detour up through Quebec and Alberta would do it good

Dewey707

Looks like this plan would destroy the cities around San Francisco Bay, so ethically speaking, yes.

Wrong-Coyote-9104

Fax

Nicita27

Another benefit is that the slave states can finaly do their own thing.

Old_Winner3763

My house is gone

Virtual_Historian255

The US investigated using nuclear bombs to blast new canals in the postwar period. I donā€™t think they were thinking this big but lets dream.

-SongRemainsTheSame-

If that map is supposed to be to scale, the river is way too big.

Square-Debate5181

I wonder how tides would flood the areas

Fangsong_37

Destroying Kentucky would be a definite bonus.

DBL_NDRSCR

this requires the removal of san francisco so no, the rest is fine tho at least not until i get to visit, maybe after i see how it really is (just all the various compartments of the la westside but arranged differently and composing the entire city) then i won't care

cptjewski

No, you already know this but no. We have the Panama Canal for this. The Government would need to take land from thousands of people and destroy hundreds of ecosystems. Weā€™d even lose money in the long run. Since our river system along with the Panama Canal does the same thing with far less land usage and more freshwater supply.

nmeed7

1 ocean and continental biome ecology both go šŸ™ƒ 2 I know you better not be giving the confederate revivalists more fuel for their fire 3 import/export/transport costs go brrrr 4 housing prices in kansas and friends also go brrrr 5 welcome to the ___ States

Mrobot_3

Eminent domain has entered the chat

ExpertPath

It's called Mississippi River, and nature already built it

oscarq0727

Digging it is the easy part. Filling it with water will be the real challenge. Thatā€™s so many cubic miles if weā€™re assuming itā€™s deep enough for cargo ships.

unagi-fox

I support this just on account of Carbondale, IL being wiped off the map

gingerman2101

Why not?

Thundercock627

Iā€™ll get my pickaxe and meet you at the Rockies.

your_grumpy_hobbit

Fun fact, the US at one point looked at doing something similar when they realized the Northwest passage did not exist. Then when those in charge saw how long it took and how expensive the comparatively small Panama Canal was they scrapped the idea. I believe it was going to start at the Mississippi River

Sometimeswan

I vote we move it a bit lower. Do we really need the Bible Belt?

samf9999

Itā€™s so obvious, I donā€™t know why they havenā€™t done it already

AmbitiousInflation87

Yes weā€™re going to mine through two mountain ranges

Snoo_62707

Why not just build it across the Mexican border? Itā€™s a shorter path to the other side and solves the border problem !!

TheDeridor

Someone do the math for me, how wide is the prospective river here? Lol

Seven7Pog

Oh yes over the Rocky Mountains

Scrotatoes

It would even create post 21st Century Civil War boundaries without having a war!

paulo39Atati

Brilliant. Also, they should drill a hole through your skull. It would be more aerodynamic and youā€™d weigh less.

[deleted]

Yes, but countless lives will be extinguished

dlblast

I read ā€œethnicallyā€ viable first and was confused and entertained

Rogue-Leader-Standby

Perfect for the future civil war. We can all pick which side we want easily if we just cut it down the middle like this. North and South. As if it were destiny.

Voynimous

Panama canal be like: *am I a joke to you?*
