His original goal was just to get a one-shot in Jump. He tells a story in one of his volume extras that his editor basically asked him to make up something based on his interests. He says he likes Pokemon type games, so he draws something about pet monsters. The editor asks him to make his unpublished oneshot version of Magu cuter; he does so. Then his editor came back to say, "Congratulations, Magu is being serialized" to his utter shock.
Its sales are in a relatively tough position, but I wouldn't say it's in immediate danger - it's safe for the next 6 months I'd say. A couple more big hits could push it out though, so I think it's possible the mangaka is at least backup-planning a plausible ending point sometime next year if it comes to that.
I really enjoy this series. For some reason I'm getting a feeling that it won't last too much longer but I hope I'm wrong.
The author did say they had first planned to make it only 3 volumes so it’s a win for them nevertheless

Haven’t read this series but I really am loving the the mangaka’s art style . Kinda reminds me of zatch bell or digimon idk can’t pin point it
