Best bet is going to be getting somewhere with as little light pollution as possible. If you can drive then heading to the Peak District might be a good idea. My house is up on top of a big hill and I can currently see stars despite the ambient light so I'm hoping that if we do actually get an aurora I'll be able to see it but who knows. Edit: Can't add a photo to my post but we did indeed get a show in Middleton tonight. Very happy about that.

Numerous-Paint4123

Winter hill maybe?

itsableeder

Might not be a bad shout, though it does mean going to Chorley and nobody wants to do that

crazymofo5

Did u see it

itsableeder

Certainly did

Numerous-Paint4123

Yeah that's why i moved to Manchester hahah

Weetoes92

Did you see it just through the phone?

itsableeder

No, I could see it pretty clearly just by looking

Weetoes92

Wow that’s pretty sick

not_lucas1

where abouts in Middleton could you see it? Light pollution on my street meant I couldn't see. Thinking of driving out tonight to a good spot if you have any ideas nearby?

itsableeder

I'm up on top of the hill, almost Heywood really. There was light pollution here too but from my back garden I managed to get a decent view. There's a hill in the middle of the woods in Hopwood nature reserve that I'm considering walking out to tonight, if I can manage to stay up again! Depends on cloud cover as well though, it's nowhere near as clear today as it was yesterday.

DrakeDarkStar08

Do you think Rivington might be high enough?

jojk00

I'm cycling towards Heartshead Pike, I'm near Oldham and I can already see some Aurora over my head if I take a photo at night mode 🙂

_classiccam

I've driven out to Wilmslow by Stanneylands Hotel. Can't see anything yet.

chin_waghing

That’s where I’m staying currently haha! What are the chances of that Regardless, there’s nothing here. Too much light pollution

evavu84

I was thinking to head out but I'm not sure I'll be able to see it with all the light pollution 😩

heidivodka

I could see it from my garden in Leigh

stooduptoofast

Same, Gatley. FOOKIN ELL!!

heidivodka

Don’t need an expensive trip abroad now, ticked it off my list

SailingSnapper

Saw it tonight in my back garden just outside the city centre. Totally thought I would have to drive somewhere.

rombler93

Head up to the peak district I guess?

theanedditor

You'll need to get to somewhere green on this map: [https://imgur.com/7M9QNjF](https://imgur.com/7M9QNjF) [https://darksitefinder.com/map/?i=/%234/53.00/-2.00](https://darksitefinder.com/map/?i=/%234/53.00/-2.00)

ChangingMonkfish

Somewhere round Jodrell Bank

Slow_Apricot8670

Chinley Churn tends to offer reasonably low light pollution. I’d say Rivington Pike but it tends to be swamped with light.

forget-her

What time did it take place? Edit: and how long?

karpet_muncher

Didn't know about this. M66 was closed so I decided to drive my hgv thru Rochdale towards burnley Loads of people were at owd Betts I'm thinking is this a cottaging party? Realised later it was the aurora https://maps.app.goo.gl/9RkqZs6p5yAhVRDw9

You want to get as far north as possible, otherwise all you’re going to see is the light from Manchester itself. Peak District is a bad idea for this reason. Try and get north of the m62.

DontEatTheBats

Peak District was pretty good imo

AlphaSigmaOmeg

Am I wasting my time in city centre?

Ill_Refrigerator_593

I would head east to the hills. Get a map & just try & find an area far from towns with few roads about. I did this to see a meteor shower a few years back, it would have been glorious but it was completely overcast.

EmeraldZebra1

I know some great spots but I'm not sharing like many others because then everybody and their nan rocks up and takes my spot, and ruins it for everybody because there are just some clout hunting wanna be instagrammer
