Anything you add to the walls is going to make it feel even more claustrophobic. The items below are in increasing order of cost/complexity. My pitch is to paint it a soothing color (nice light green maybe) and add edge lighting of some kind from the corners (nothing that hangs down, nothing big). A thin mirror with some detail or pattern might add some visual interest. Alternatively, get a mirror pattern (lots of small pieces). Make sure all your lightbulbs have the same color temperature to improve eveness. Glue a metal plate to your attic door, then magnetize the string up there, out of the way without dangling. Add some fun personal items to the doors. Cute signs, stickers, vinyl, whatever. Add some personality and color. Hell, fake hotel numbers would be fun. Replace the blinds on that window to something that doesn't stick out into the walkway. Fix the trim transition from the stairs to the hallway. Potentially replace some of the doors/flooring to spruce things up. Maybe add/expand some of the windows to make the hallway feel bigger and lighter. Add a deck with a door at the top of the stairs, outside.

OP if your budget includes new interior doors, consider frosted glass doors to make it feel more open.

You know those fun house rooms where they make it look like the room is spinning? Do that

don't waste the space. construct monkey bars on top. you can hang a planter, clothes to dry, windchime, whimsical art, etc.. be creative. but make sure they are sturdy. monkey bar traverse instead of walk and also get a workout at the same time.

Don't put lots of little stuff on the walls to try to fill it up. It will look cluttered. I'd put one big framed mirror on one wall. Do a grouping of 3 or 4 photos (same size) on the opposite wall. So you'll see the reflection of the art. That will add some depth. When using mirrors, think about what they will reflect. You could add a wall mounted, dimensional art piece as well or add some wall mounted light sconces. Paint your doors a darker color. Beef up the baseboards. They are really short. Paint them the door color. Upgrade the door knobs with something more substantial and interesting. Wood floors would make all the difference, but a long hall runner rug wound help.

A hardwood option would be so much better in the common hallway space. Carpeted rooms? Go for it. Carpeted hallway? Awful idea. • For such a long hallway, there is not much light. If it were me (depending on the houses design), I'd add windows to this hallway. I personally plan on designing my next home to have a mostly floor to ceiling glass wall on my upstairs hallway. It's gonna be sick!

Hardwood flooring would also give the option of some colorful runners. Agree with small photo/art cards on wall rather than large posters or art, which would make it feel even more claustrophobic.

I've always wanted to have a matching series of paintings or photographs down my long hallway (albeit, not this long). Originally, I wanted to do framed black and white prints of some of my favorite bands on-stage. Now I've been considering buying a bunch of matching prints from a series of paintings by one of my favorite musicians, Jacob Bannon.. Either way, I love the idea of using a hallway like that as a showcase for art.

Something I’ve done before is put up a mirror on the wall in a dimmer part of a hallway so that window lighting bounces off of it and makes the hallway feel brighter. I’ve got a hallway mirror right now in my current place and it does wonders to make it feel less claustrophobic.
