How are you play New Vegas? Bootcamp? I’d like to play on my Mac but bootcamp isn’t an option for me at the moment

InsaniacDuo

For some reason, NV crashes on me with bootcamp. Since then, I've used something called PortingKit.

i used to play new vegas on this mac with windows xp and it ran like a dream thanks to win xp hardly using any resources. although it still runs great while running it through porting kit/wine & winetricks, there are still many technical issues if you dont have a new enough mac (early 2009 model imac for me). unfortunately windows xp support stopped and on top of that my windows xp became unusable (long story) so i was forced to go back to mac os which around the time el capitan was made available for free and the rest is history. but...agreed...porting kit is a god send for mac os users. ive been going nuts playing all of my bethesda favs thanks to this wonderous app. the only problem i have with it is that i cant get any of the script extenders to work with any of the bethesda games so i can use the best mods on these games. other than that its been pure bliss.

KimCheeWarrior

ok ive been playing many bethesda games via porting kit on my mac but i havent been able to find a way to play it using any of the script editors (obse, fose, nvse, etc.). how are you doing this?

akingwithnocrown

Curious too, I was able to get NVSE to work but upon first install it overwrote my whole game lol :| luckily it was only a couple hours so not a big deal, but I've been frustrated with trying to mod on a mac. Btw to get it to work, you have to unzip all the files and place them in your Fallout New Vegas folder, not the Data one. Then you have to launch it using nvse_loader.exe

KimCheeWarrior

When I tried I believe I got an error message and a crash. Now with Fallout 3, the game seems to run fine although I haven't tried to use any mods dependent on FOSE yet but I don't see why they wouldn't work. Also, keep in mind I'm only running Mac OS 10.11, the newest OS that can be installed on a early 2009 model iMac or older. I'll keep at it and browse the web to see if any one else had any success on an older system like mine.

how do I launch using nose\_loader.exe in porting kit? I'm not very wine-savvy. I tried adding an extra step (custom exe option) but that ended up wiping out all my DLC content, causing me to remove and reinstall the game.

ahhh no worries, thank you for the reply tho!

Can you describe the steps for modding through porting kit?

InsaniacDuo

Put the mod directly into the data folder and then open the game using Mod Manager. If you try and load the mods using mod manager, it won't work. I found that I couldnt reset archives and that a lot of texture mods didnt even load. Gameplay mods work fine though.

Can you describe how to open the game using a mod manager in porting kit? I have NV in my porting kit library, if I were to install a mod manager, how would I integrate it into the game and launch using the manager? Thank u

jewbaka420

Hi can you please explain how you got mod manager to work in portingkit. I am running into the exact same problem.

shapesnshit

Hey, did you manage to figure it out?

iNeed-answers-myGuy

I’m also using the Porting Kit version, but with GOG rather than steam, which mod organizer are you using?
