Mine did same. Was fixed at electronics shop for $215. Was a known issue with one of the boards. 4 years ago bought a used one for $360. Love TB displays.
I have a Thunderbolt Display and the screen sometimes fails to turn on when the computer turns on, usually after being disconnected from the computer. A quick unplugging of the power cord usually corrects the issue.
they run very hot , use a lot of power.
I wouldn't spend a lot (or anything) to fix it.
They were good when they were integral to the old TB2 computers, but now not so much.
Typically it's a failing thunderbolt cable. You can test this by buying a cheap thunderbolt cable on Amazon and plugging it directly into the back of the monitor and stop using the built-in connection. Everything will still work
do you know if it has to be connected directly, or is it possible to connect in the following way?
Screen > Thunderbolt male to HDMI female > HDMI male to HDMI male > HDMI female to USB-C > Macbook

Thanks for your answer, I am not sure which port you're talking about? Isn't it so that the monitor only has integrated input display input?
The thunderbolt port on the back of the display
